"I'm sorry Ray, I'm sorry! I really am!"
She yelled over her shoulders as she ran away. She wasn't sure she made the right choice, but what she was certain was that she couldn't let Ray destroy the flask, or even have it be hidden away and lost forever. She made her choice.
"Knowledge should never be lost, Ray! You wouldn't understand!"
That much was expected of her, to try and protect knowledge as a mage, regardless of the risks. She didn't expect him to understand her point of view, and so, she made the easier choice for him: it was easier for her to accept Ray angry at her than to live without knowing or using the contents of the flask. She would probably, in one point or another, have found a way around his vigilant eyes.
She ran the best she could, running through some narrow alleys to try and lose Ray. She felt guilty for tricking him, but... That was the price.

Sorry wasn't about to cover the embarrassment and anger Ray felt. That she wouldn't trust him to listen was insult enough, steeling away with a dangerous arcane component implied that she was dangerous to others as well. If she would go to such heights "for knowledge" what would she do with the flask in her pursuit of it...
"Seeker, I pray restraint, we are yet a mystery." Qil seemed to be ...defending her?
Ray was sprinting after Kamille, knowing the town and its various paths from having stayed there he was able to cut around the narrow alleyways and meet her at their exit. She'd need to try harder than that to escape. He was only able to come out behind her though, she was still just out of reach and proved to be just as fast as him and somewhat more agile. If the street wasn't full of civilians he could have sent a sonic bolt to knock her down, the flask provided another reason to avoid that though.
"Stop! I don't mean to destroy it!" He yelled after her between panting breaths.
His lungs were capable of keeping this up, but not through the whole city. He would need to be creative to catch up.
She was stuck on this level unless she took either the suspension bridge across to another platform or one of the lifts down to the next level. The bridge was behind them and she was approaching the lift, so he decided to catch her below.
"Fine, have the accursed thing!" he yelled, slowing to a stop and waiting til she lost sight of him.
He then did something stupidly risky and dangerous. He took a running go and jumped off the platform's edge, grabbing onto the rope's that were put up to prevent people from falling over he used them to slingshot himself back towards the platform below.
"Seeker!" Qil seemed terrified, he'd caught a celestial off guard...
The drop was some thirty feet and he felt the bones of his legs crunch as he landed, pain filled him and he almost blacked out. Pulling himself to and forcing a load of healing magic into his legs the bones could be felt shifting back into position. He stayed grounded until the shock went away and then rose to his feet and ran for the lift's landing to meet Kamille there.

For a second, she heard him. The thing is... Kamille was counting on the fact Ray seemed to be more on the honorable side than anything else. This could work both on her advantage, as she knew his word to be trustworthy - or not, as it wasn’t very clear to her what his religion stood for, and if he was hellbent on destroying the flask for the sake of it, he would.
Then, she could almost feel his anger, and knew immediately she couldn’t make a deal with him. A threshold has been crossed.
Before her, a lift was almost closing when she saw it and she ran towards it, finding it the perfect opportunity to quickly miss Ray. The doors closed behind her, and for a moment she relaxed, taking a deep breath and trying to gather her breath, her hands on her knees. She wouldn’t be able to run for much longer, so thankfully she would just speed out of town or into a nice, discreet inn. Outside, a woman screamed when Ray seemingly fell out of the sky and to her side, making her faint at the sight of his legs folding over and the sound of breaking bones. Several heads turned, and a few surprised noises and exclamations followed him. Kamille seemed unaware of it all, preparing herself for another sprint as the doors of the lift opened.
She clearly didn’t expect Ray to be waiting for her, and as she ran out, she imediately bumped into him. She looked up, confused, and when understanding hit her, her eyes widened.
She imediately blinked. The spell didn’t take her too far, only a few yards to the side. Still a bit dishoriented, she ran to a stabilishment that looked like a tavern. She was already looking tired and weary.

Ray had made his way to the lift, still reeling from the pain and adtenaline of the fall. The doors opened and he looked to those aboard in search of Kamille. He saw her nowhere, had she gone back to the opposite side!? Just as he thought he'd lost her for sure something slammed into him, bouncing off of him. Kamille and his eye's met for a moment, both wide with surprise.
"Wai-" His word's cut off as she suddenly disappeared in a burst of magic. He knew the spell, but not well, he couldn't remember how far it could take someone.
He jerked his head around, scanning the crowd as it grew in response to the string of events taking place. Many still pointed at Ray and talked avout his legs to those that had missed his jump. He saw others turning towards a tavern. He took the surprise on their faces as indication that she had possibly ran that way. It was a risk though, so he hesitated a moment longer to scan the area.
"Seeker, trust your instinct, we can't delay." Qil injected full of concern.
Ray ran into the tavern, out of breath and lightheaded from his earlier pain. Bursting through the door, the tavern full of patrons all stared in his direction. An armed man rose from his chair with a concerned look on his face. He looked around and spotted Kamille, also looking wonded, and the crowd all seemed to glance between the two before the concerned looks filled the tavern. All focused on Ray.
It was only then that Ray realized he was a rough looking man armed with a sword chasing a young woman through the town...

Kamille was aware of her odds. Being a woman had its perks sometimes, and while all of the tavern turned to face this gruff looking man chasing after a woman, she took advantage of it. Instead of being stared down, she was promptly let behind the counter by the barmaid, in a mutual understanding - the girl didn’t even seem surprised, she just sighed and ushered Kamille to the back. The half elf mouthed a silent "Thank you" to her and burst into the kitchen.
Luckly, the kitchen had a back door that led into a small alley she could use to get back into larger streets.
She took a moment taking a deep breath, knowing the tavern would delay Ray a bit. She pulled up her hood, and then started to calmly walk the street, trying to look unsuspecting. As she got out to a more crowded street, she looked around, as relieved as she was confused. For one, it would be hard for Ray to find her. But now she also had no idea where to go....
Actually, it wasn’t that hard for Ray to find her, and the reason for that was simple:
Mischief.
The raven didn’t enter the tavern with her, and remained observing from afar, flying overhead, cawing. All Ray had to do was to follow Mischief and the raven would lead him straight back to his Master.

A silent curse crossed Ray's lips as his query passed out the back way and he let his shoulder's droop. A group of young men at the bar rose and followed behind as the armed man strolled towards Ray with a hand on his sword's hilt. A dozen or so ideas of lies crossed Ray's mind but imagined none would sound believable enough to these would be hero's. Instead he would go with something close to the truth and hope for the best...
"Ay, what kinda piss stain are ya, chasing a lady around like that?" The armed man spat to the side as he finished sizing Ray up.
"Yeah, what she do to ya?" One of the younger men yelled over his shoulder.
The rest of the bar stared on with interest, hoping a bar fight would result and they could this villain punished.
"My apologies men for this misunderstanding. I'm a priest and healer, that woman stole a powerful medicinal potion from me. Without it I'll be unable to save... um.. ah..." Ray glanced back and forth at the crowd, his awkward sounding lie was convincing no-one and he had only thought so far ahead.
"Ahh! Never could lie for shit!" Ray growled in frustration and raised his blade towards the men who drew weapons of their own.
Just as their steel was unsheathed he let loose a blast of sonic energy that left his blade with a loud screeching noise and rushed through the air like a bullet towards the group. A loud explosion burst forth and glasses shattered while bar patrons screamed. The force of the blast sent the group of men flying to the ground dazed and deaf. Ray used the opening to run over their bodies, leap the counter, and burst out the back door.
He emerged into an empty alleyway, a stray dog was running and whimpering with its tail between its legs and people peered out their own back doors to see what the commotion was. The sight of Ray sent doors slamming and deadbolts clicking. Kamille was nowhere to be seen... A familiar noise caught Ray's attention though, a caw, Mischief was about...
The raven fluttered about in a panic overhead, Ray took off at a sprint in the direction the caws lead. He was getting more and more winded as this went on. He was also making a bigger and bigger mess of things as he went, he'd likely have a wanted poster in town by the end of this.

Kamille was under the impression she was out of Ray's reach right now, hoping the people at the tavern would hold him for long enough for her to be far enough. She walked calmly down the street by now, hoping it would be less suspicious. Someone running would always draw attention; at the same time, no one would look twice if she was just walking down the street calmly.....
Once she deemed she was far enough ahead, she slipped into another alleyway that looked deserted enough. She opened her satchel and took the time to take another look at the flask, seemingly fascinated by it. The mage had no idea what it was, but that was exactly her problem: she was bound to die for her curiosity. If not that directly, by the people she angered because of it.
The only flaw to her escape was clearly Mischief. The raven followed her from above, his small eyes searching for his Master. When he found her, he swiftly dove, following her into the alley and gently landing on her shoulder. Kamille smiled at the raven.
"We should go to Sol City, Mischief. Certainly someone at the Arcane Academy will help."
Unofficially, of course. If she was to go there officially as a researcher, they would have her surrender the flask, and she wanted to avoid that.

Ray closed the distance between himself and Mischief enough that he could slow to a quick jog, he stuck to alleyways and ran behind or between shops to avoid any guards that may be searching for the one armed ruffian casting spells at tavern goers and chasing women through the streets.
"You're more easily tricked than counseled, Seeker... If you'd only heeded my warnings." Qil seemed frustrated, like a father towards a rebellious child. Or, in Ray's case, a reckless one.
"Still. You must continue this pursuit, despite the consequences." That didn't sound good....
Ray turned the corner just in time to see Mischief descend across a main street into a small alleyway, that must be where Kamille had taken refuge. Good, he was worn ragged from sprinting through the streets and fighting through a tavern. He passed out of the dark alley he'd passed through, pulling his hood over his head and masking the blade at his waste as best he could. He was about to enter into the passageway as a shouting voice caught him off guard.
"You there! Stop, you're under arrest!" A retinue of guards, around three of them, ran towards him with spears and shields at the ready.
"Seeker, remember my words, but also your oath..." Qil reminded, cautioning him against hurting the guards.
Ray moved to sprint into the Alley but they guards cut him off. He could see Kamille over their shoulders, so close... Drawing his sword he used a strategy that had worked on countless grouped up enemies, he charged towards the one he wanted to move. The guard blocking the alleyway raised his shield and prepared to thrust at Ray with his spear. The next closest guard rushed forward as well to try and take advantage of his missing arm while he was distracted. Lucky for them, he was able to depend on defense in this situation.
"Wanderer, shield me from the blades of the misguided!" The prayer surrounded him with a faint light just as he made contact with the first guard. The spear tips glided harmlessly around his form, piercing the robe yet not his flesh. With a flurry from his saber he forced the guard blocking the alleyway to step to the side and used the opening to shoulder check past him into the alley. The guards, with faces full of surprise, began to chase after him as he bolted towards Kamille.
"I can't let you go!" Ray shouted towards Kamille, unsure as to what his plan was at this point.

The false sense of security was short lived: the sounds of chaos reached her in no time, prompting her to hide the flask among her belongings once more. She was growing tired of her escape, and Ray seemed to be relenteless. An additional layer of complication was thrown into them as now Ray had a sect of guards after him.
How did that happen?!
Kamille uttered a silent curse and turned to give chase once again, but Ray's voice made her hesitate. Maybe she was naive to believe, rather blindly, that Ray was a good person. After all, he helped her escape the cultists - rescued her, to be fair, and how was she rewarding him? By tricking him and having him get arrested? How did that come to pass, to begin with?!
Kamille was torn. She couldn’t just gift him with a night in jail, could she? If it only came to that: she watched, shocked, as Ray just forced his way by a group of guards. This has gone too far. If that wouldn’t stop him, few other things would - and by the end of the day, to be fair, she didn’t want to be chased around by this man forever.
Considering all that has led to it, she was fairly aware what she was doing was stupid: she stopped, turned and raised her hand. Ray could feel the ground shake, but the tremor went under his feet and continued behind him. In a horrendous cacophony of clanking armors and swords and grunts and screams, the guards seemed to have all fallen on their faces at once: the ones in the front lost their footing when the ground receeded in a new formed hole, and the ones behind them tripped on their fallen friends. The alleyway was an agitated one, for sure!
The time she spent to do so allowed Ray to close in their distance, but even then, Kamille turned to run once more, turning to another alley. They needed to stop this already, and she was ready to resort to a risky tactic, even if it would make all of that for naught. Once she spotted other smaller streets from the alley she ran towards, a few yards into it she jumped to the side to hide behind a tall pile of crates into another side street. If Ray hadn’t spotted her doing so, still she would wait for him to approach her hiding spot and pull him by the arm to hide with her, putting a finger to her lips in a "shush" gesture, so he would be quiet.
In a matter of minutes, the fallen guards would be on their feet, their shouts and clinging armor following them as they searched the streets for Ray.

Ray was once more closing on Kamille, in sight of the goal, but now things were far more complicated and he was unsure of the next steps. Even if he could convince her to stop they couldn't, not with the guards in pursuit. Qil would have some very choice words for him as soon as this was resolved, likely while he sat in a prison cell and Kamille did whatever she planned to with the flask. His legs were burning as much as his chest now from the fast paced chase. A sudden rumble brought a feeling of defeat, Kamille was resorting to magic to escape after being pushed so far. His surprise grew further as he realized the magic was meant to stop the guards instead of him.
He followed in her direction as she darted into a connected alley, unsure of her next move he simply jogged down the alley before being grabbed and yanked behind a pile of crates. He was so tired he couldn't even fight against the tug and almost screamed as it happened. Now face to face with Kamille once more he realized the plan she'd concocted and forced his breathing to slow. He also released the magic protecting him so as to not glow like a light and attract the guards. It wasn't long before the group clambered down the alleys in search of him.
"You see anything Gav?" A serious tone rang out from just beyond the crates.
"No, must've booked it, head towards the lifts and cut im off!" A command came from a distance.
As the sound of boots on stone slowly left them in silence Ray turned to his confusing companion, unsure of what would come next. Kamille had proven more than unpredictable, he just as much expected her to blast him away again as to hand the flask over.
"What sort of trick was that!?" Ray whispered angrily.
"I understand we've barely met, but what am I to do when you take a dangerous magical item and run off, I still don't know your intentions with the blasted thing. Now, look at this predicament..." Ray waves his arm in frustration before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.
"Please. Let's decide the next step... together." He looks sternly to Kamille, awaiting a response.

The guards seemed to be off earshot now, so Kamille and Ray could safely talk, even if in hushed tone. Kamille crossed her arms, looking up to Ray with a scowl.
"I, on the other hand, do know what you'd rather do with it, and I will not let you destroy it!"
That much was clear, if she was willing to try and trick him to take it away. It also became clear that, despite causing him trouble, she didn’t want to cause him any harm - or have him be arrested, for that matter. She was a walking contradiction, and seemed as annoyed as Ray, as if he was the one to have provoked all of that mess.
"Those dummies at the Arcane Academy might have enough knowledge to help us understand this, but they will surely have us surrender the flask to their collection - or to the Mystical Archive even!"
...which was not what she wanted, that much was clear. But she had shown signs she was malleable and ready to compromise with a middle ground, as much as she was ready to trick him too. As for the guards, she didn’t seem to be troubled.
"The guards will soon forget us, don’t worry. By tomorrow morning we'll be able to go through the gates without a hustle."
Or so she hoped. That wouldn’t be the case if they had actually engaged in a fight with the guards or were seen stealing or fighting each other.
"It would be wise to keep a low profile for the night, however. Find a cheap room in a cheap inn and not cause any more trouble."
Kamille spoke as if it was he who stsrted it all.

Ray's indignation grew more and more as Kamille complained of the situation and their options as if he was somehow at fault in everything. The nerve of this girl, and he had definitely not forgotten her earlier ruse and the embarrassment that had caused. The way she said to 'keep a low profile' especially irritated him...
"I'd have had no need to break my legs, shoulder check guards, or blast tavern guards if you'd not stolen the flask and ran! Who am I to trust, the bit of divinity yelling in my head or the girl I met amid a field of corpses!?" Ray went from fuming to the realization that he'd just exposed his connection to Qil. His eyes changed from a snarling glare to wide with surprise.
"Seeker, your hesitancy thus far has been of no consequence, your forthrightness will also bring none. It is our path..." Qil seemed unphased by the admission, Ray was quiet for a moment still.
He adjusted himself behind the pile of boxes, scooting one over and causing a rat to scurry away down the alley. He was unsure how she would react to the mention of divinity, likely she'd simply think him insane. Either way they needed somewhere better to discuss this than an alleyway.
"We should head to an inn, or somewhere hidden at least. This discussion is not one for an alley and any who walk down it to hear..." With that he stood and offered a hand to help her up. Harboring a grudge would only make things more difficult.
He knew a few inns, deciding to head towards one known for catering to refugees and immigrants. There they would blend in among the diverse guests. It was also accessible through a nearby stairwell that would take them to it's upper floors.
"Whatever we do, it won't involve surrendering it to the academy, I trust them less than I do you..." Ray spat to the side at the mention of the wizardly lot.
Ray hoped that they could find a place to hide the flask, somewhere secure where prying minds wouldn't look to exploit it. At this moment, he could think of no such place, at least none to which Kamille would agree...

Ray's anger didn't seem to surprise her until broken legs and tavern guards were mentioned, at which point her eyes widened in awe. And then he mentioned the "divine voice" in his head, and on top of another layer of surprise, her eyebrows met in a slight frown and a new expression in her eyes: recognition. She had seen it before, there was no doubt of it. Kamille would let the subject slide for the moment being, but it clearly caught her attention and she would remember it for after that.
Kamille accepted his help to get up, and still looked a bit thoughtful as he talked about going to an inn. On that regard, she would have to rely on Ray, since she didn't know her way around that city. Kamille still snickered lightly as he said how he trusted the academy less than herself - which was telling.
"I know people at the Sol City that can help without having us surrender it... But for now... Where do you think we could go?"
She looked up to him. They were both in a very curious impasse, where neither of them had reasons to trust the other. Kamille had an unhealthy amount of distrust in the Gods, but the people who followed the Gods still kept her scratching her head from time to time. Most of them were... good. The Witch would stop trying to run from him since, one, it looked pointless as he was very determined; and two, it looked like she couldn't just loose him without giving him some trouble, and that's not what she wanted.
"If you help me take it to Sol City, I promise I won't run off with it. And then... We can decide together what to do with it, like you said. For now, do you know a place where we can stay?"
Kamille didn't expect him to trust her so easily after what she did, but it was worth a try. There was a curious shift in the way she regarded him - it was not distrust, but rather curiosity. "Curiosity killed the cat", they often said, sometimes relating cats to mages, who would often put themselves in such situations just to sate their whimsical needs. She accepted his lead out of that alley to somewhere safe, prompting the conversation further that rabbit hole.
"You....... Do you serve Solaria?"

From the look of surprise followed by apprehension on Kamille's face Ray could tell he'd said far too much. There was no better way to lose someone's trust, especially if they seem skeptical of the gods and their followers, than to reveal you may be a delusional priest...He'd have to hope she wouldn't judge him harshly, and more so, that she wasn't aware of the true meaning of his words.
"We're headed to Gallun and Gert's, lots of immigrants and refugees, diverse enough that we'll fit in and they mind their own business. Best of all, it's close."
He began the trek to the location as he continued to speak to her. He was curious who the 'people' she mentioned would be, hopefully he wouldn't end up surrounded by wizards of dubious intention... His experiences with mages were diverse. Those who didn't belong to the academy seemed to each be entirely unique in motive and alignment. Such people were dangerous and often got others hurt in the process of their studies. It seemed his best option at the moment, no other group would allow them to keep the flask once it was discovered.
"After we lay low for a night we can leave with a group of refugees to cover our exit, head to a port and sail to Sol City..." He spoke slowly, puzzling out the path in his head as he said it aloud.
Her next question caught him off guard and reminded him of his earlier disclosure. It was a question he'd answered on many occasions, though mostly to other believers or those he'd helped or treated. In this situation the answer would need to be a careful one.
"It's complicated... I serve The Blessed Wanderer. He's not a deity in the sense that Solaria is but a servant of the gods given the gift of divinity. Through service to him I was given gifts that I use to help others as he did in his own life."
It wasn't a perfect reply. The Wanderer was difficult to explain as he stood apart from the usual template gods followed. This difference was the main reason Ray had been so taken by his philosophy, no other god had left writings of their own hand for their followers.
It wasn't long before they found themselves at a small doorway. it was of ragged and rotten wood with a gap missing to serve as a handle. Scratched into a board near the top was 'G & G'. Ray pushed open the door revealing a steep and thin stairwell leading down. After a short descent they found themselves in the midst of a bustling tavern of rough and out of luck individuals of all sorts. Ray purchased a room for the two with two cots and a sheet separating the two. It would be difficult for him to fall asleep and leave Kamille unattended, even more so if she was in another room and able to slip away again...

If Ray knew the first thing about mages, he knew his troubles were far from over: she was curious about him now, and was just waiting for the right moment to shot him down with questions. Kamille followed him without even taking notice of their path - she didn’t know how to navigate that damned town, she couldn’t get more lost than she already was. And apparently, even after everything, she seemed to trust him.
Trust him enough....
The Witch's beef, to be fair, was not with the followers of the Gods, who more often than not were decent people trying to be good, in her experience. The fanatics and plain evil people would still be so even if it weren’t because of the Gods. Her main issue were the deities themselves: Kamille had a fair amount - probably an unhealthy amount - of distrust for the Gods. But if what Ray spoke was true, this Wanderer was different, and though she had seen this kind of thing before, the person wasn’t able to explain to her exactly what was going on. She hoped Ray could.
While Ray paid for the room, Kamille paid for a meal for them, with the ale included. Despite looking used to some luxury, she didn’t bat an eye at the environment of the tavern - it would work on their favor regarding their intention of "laying low". Kamille didn’t even seem to register his suspicion she would flee in the middle of the night, because that possibility was not in her immediate array of choices for the time being. Once they were set and paid for everything, Kamille pulled Ray to a discrete table to the side, where they could talk over a hot meal, some bread, cheese and ale.
"So........ I probably should have asked about this before, but...... Could you tell me more about this Wanderer? How different is he from the Gods? And.... what did you mean by.... this.... voice in your head?"
Saying it out loud sounded weird, but her eyes weren’t judging. She looked at him expectantly, eager even - with the curiosity that was known to be the doom of most arcanists.
