Just barely noon, the sun settles high in the sky, warming the skin of all those walking beneath. The white sand beaches glitter under the light rays, stretching far as the eyes can see. The sounds of gentle lapping waves drift in and out of the ear between sounds of laughter and cheer. Out in the distance of the calm blue waters are small colourful boats bobbing up and down. Walking further inland, away from the white-tipped waves, is a gathering of colourful pop-up canopies covering wooden stands filled with all types of food, from cooked fish to raw, from hot mochi to cold sago. A petite but lanky humanoid-ish figure stretches, raising her arms above her hand and standing on the balls of her feet. Rolling her neck, she sighs before patting off sand from her clothes and hair and fuzz. What a nice nap, she thinks before patting her rumbling stomach. She breathes in deep, filling her lungs with the enticing smells of charcoal grilled fish, maybe mackerel, wafting through the air. As if entranced, her feet skip forward toward the mouthwatering and stomach-rumbling smell. Her thin, long ears twitch as the sounds of pattering feet, light chatter, and the hawking vendors grow louder. Soon, the smell of grilled fish merges with dozens of smells. Flashes of sweet honey, salty and umami soy sauce, raw fish, and much more assault her nose. Weaving between citizens dressed in light linen clothes in bright colours, Nobine's antennas twitch as she picks up each new scent. The two rows of stalls open up more in the distance, forming a circle, and in the middle is a sizeable makeshift stage with several long tables. In front is a smaller table with several people lined up chatting before pointing towards some ornate boxes off in the corner. Curious, she dances closer to the table, walking past people who mumble something about prizes, food comas, and last year's failures. As she nears the table, she reads the sign written in striking, bold calligraphy in black ink - Eating Contest Tournament! Winners = Prizes. She tilts her head, her large black eyes blinking as her brows furrow. "Eating contest? Just need to eat? We beat each other to the food? Whoever eats the most wins?" she mumbles. Her voice grows louder in excitement at what must be how the eating contest works, surely. With a large smile and giggles spilling from her lips, she skips towards the back of the line, looking around to see if there would be any strong contenders to stop her from gorging herself on free food.

There was few things more enjoyable than a party, any sort of revelry it didn't matter what the meaning or reason behind it. It was always a worthy thing to be present for, she was enjoying a few drinks she had managed to snatch without being caught. If there was anything she enjoyed more than material things it was material things she had attained for free. Ignoring the usual odd stares she got, prying eyes and strange gawking was something she'd found to be quite normal in this plane of existence. The satyr stuck out terribly at the little festival, with already standing tall she appeared even taller due to her long-curled horns. With cloven feet, a silver mane of hair, gray-black fur all along her body and strange horizontal eyes. It was impossible for her to not stand out.
She was enjoying the different scents and sounds, all of the food smelled absolutely delicious- the chatter offered by the people mattered very little to her. Rarely did she find there was anything anyone on the Material Plane had that was worth listening in on, it was all such... day to day problems nothing grand nothing exciting. All she could keep her mind on was what she could manage to get for herself from them. Her attention was pulled in curiously as she walked around, eyeing up the sign, "Oh an eating contest, how quaint."
She smiled to herself. Whatever the prize was she wanted it. She wasn't the biggest eater but... surely she could pull something off in order to ease her way into a win. She could already think of a few ways she could subtly beat her opponents without having to gorge herself, and she could enjoy some delicious food all for free. It was a win-win, she felt confident that she would be able to win with a landslide performance.
She would carefully make her way over towards the line, looking over the line as she peeked over them to see the competition. "Oh, this should be terribly easy." She uttered aloud, her tail wiggling behind her excitedly at the prospect of winning.

The grumble of Gafelker's stomach told him he had not eaten in a while. Being an adventurer did not mean that he had a coin or a place to sleep. Adventuring was not an easy life he had learned much in his time adventuring. Mastering the elements of the land took long hours of study and time.
Gafelker looked out onto the blue-green sea with whitecaps on the waves, the sand shifted under his boots. His staff sank into the sand as he walked along the beach shoreline. Sailing ships out at sea just offshore. Seaweed and shells, beachcombers, and half-washed-away sand castles dotted the beach as he walked. Birds flying overhead and swooping down onto the sea.
The noise of children screeching, people talking and laughing, conversations carried on the wind, and music from above the beach on the walkway. Gafelker had not spent much time in a city this size before. He felt like he would be swallowed up by Sol City. The biggest celebration of the summer Sol city has every year. Hearing about it is one thing seeing with his eyes is something else.
Gafelker saw a commotion and people gathering around food stalls He walked over and saw the sign of a fat man eating with the words eating contest Eat and WIN! Gafelker thought eating contest looking he realized it was free. "Free?" Gafelker said out loud thinking. There was a man on a table yelling instructions. Soon Gafelker found himself in line.
Some stare at Gafelker He wonders if Gnomes were not too common in this city. The 4-foot-tall slim build Gnome. Him having playful green eyes and whitish hair. Maybe it was the robe he wears an elegant garment made from exquisite cloth of grays and greens adorned with silvery runes. His fine-made adventuring clothes. Gafelker could be a new sight to people here in Sol city.
Looking up the woman in front of him was tall. A satyr at the little festival? Thought Gafelker He had never seen one before. She was tall and appeared taller due to her long horns. She also had hoven feet, a silver mane of hair, and gray and black fur all along her body. When she turned her head she had strange horizontal slit eyes. Gafelker was not paying attention when a semi-drunk person bumped into Gafelker. He held on to the woman's waist with one hand as Gafelker ran into the woman in front of him "Uh, sorry My lady" said Gafelker letting her go as he turned and looked at the person behind him.

From nearby, Nobine hears a deeper voice of apology, and she turns around, realizing there are more people behind her to assess her potential foes. Cocking her head to the side, all of her eyes are drawn high up to look at the face of the beautiful satyr more than a foot taller than herself. Looking past her, Nobine sees a smaller man, who doesn't just look like a regular small human, but what would she know. So far these are the only two to catch her attention the rest of the citizens probably have small stomach...that are they aren't as colourful.
Remembering what the satyr behind her said, she frowned her mouth slightly too long. Eyebrows pulled together and thin arms propped on her hips, she leans back to try to look at the horizontal pupils of the other faeborne. "Easy?" she laughs out, dropping the upset look on her face as the corners of her lips tugged up. Tapping her chin with thin, fuzz-covered fingers, black eyes glance at silver-furred arms. "I guess being taller would mean you have more reach to grab food from others," Nobine mutters more to herself, though still loud enough for anyone nearby to hear.
Her eyes drift back to the small gnome before smirking, "Are you joining too? Haha, and how are you going to grab food?". She leans forward before whistling for a fat yellow bird to return instead of picking seeds off the ground. Duqing flutters closer, bobbing in the air before crashing onto Nobine's shoulder. "I'm pretty generous, so if you want help coming in 3rd place, Duqing can help!". The small bird merely chirps before black beady eyes look far into the sky.
A few people in the line moves up and she shuffles towards the table as well though her attention is solely on the gnome and satyr.

Corellia was surprised as she felt a hand hold onto her for a moment, turning her head around to see what the problem was. Maybe it was another fool trying to grab at her tail, she'd had that happen once before while on the material plane. She didn't suspect she'd have to toss another person into a pocket dimension but... maybe it was time for a second. Turning before looking down to see the older gnome, he let go rather quickly so clearly it wasn't anything like the previous issue she had. "It's alright, some people are born with extra legs evidently." She said looking to the person behind the gnome who had clearly knocked the smaller man into her. "And not even a centaur so that's impressive truly." She said with a small laugh.
Her ears flickered as another voice was heard, turning so she could face both the gnome and the other. Silver eyes peering over her curiously, she was humanoid that much was certain but some of the features were strange. Her gaze going to the antennae atop her head, possibly another Fae? What a rarity, she'd not spoken to another Fae since coming here. "More reach to grab food? Why would I grab at the food from the others, that would only make winning this more cumbersome. I intend to win this little competition with ease." She smiled confidently, she enjoyed winning contests even more so if she could cheat and get away with it.
Looking between the gnome and the Fae as the bird was offered to the gnome. "If that were the case would you not also need the bird?" Corellia asked looking to her, from her perspective the both of them were far shorter than she was. "Besides, bringing a bird to eat for you would be cheating would it not? I don't believe they include animals in this competition." Leaning over to look into the line, shaking her head. "Not a dog or a cat in sight. Your bird might just have to sit this competition out." She would peer back down towards the gnomish man, "Still, I am curious to see how everyone here fares. I'll win of course... but third place wouldn't be such a bad place for either of you to land."

While the drunk man stumbled off to the side after bumping into Gafelker, the small Gnome looked back at the satyr. Then Gafelker saw another adventure standing there. The Satyer was looking at her earlier. The black eyes were different is she a fairy or fae? Gafelker wondered.
Something flew from the Gnome's hood. A beautiful Pixie Emerge shaking her head. "Ooo...! That man was so rude!." She said with anger in her voice and her fist balled up. The Pixie hovered next to Gafelker. Smiling he looked at Iris. "Yes he was are you OK, Iris?" asked Gafelker with a smile. Iris stretches her arms out and yawns. "I will be fine Old man," replied Iris looking up at the big satyr dressed in a beautifully decorated black and white jacket covered in designs of black roses. With a simple black crop top. "Oh, my," Iris commented.
Gafelker looked back at the satyr. He was glad that the satyr had laughed it off. Getting his head stomped in would make it a bad day. "I am sorry for earlier for running into you. I am Gafelker and this fine companion is Iris," Gafelker explained apologizing.
"Old man, look I have not seen one of her kind in a long time. Faeborne is not very common at all." Iris said looking at
The woman has a face that looks like a humanoid, yet the eyes are large and all-black. The ears are long, thin, and adorned with skinny chains and little multicolored stones. The outer layer of hair touches her shoulder, and the underlayer stops around her hip. A dark black color that gleams in the sunlight in various colors. Some strands are put in thick braids. With a few strands left down to frame her face. Rising from her hair are two thick fuzzy antennas.
Gafelker was impressed and could see why Iris was interested in her. A man starts to sit people at the tables that are in the line some people in the crowd already placing bets and Laughing at Gafelker. It would be just his luck he was sitting at the same table as the woman in line. Gafelker started to realize he might not win this eating competition leaning his staff next to him.

“Eehh?” Nobine draws out the noise as her whole face twists in confusion. She knows the very pretty satyr in front of her couldn't be lying about the cumbersome part, so did she misinterpret the meaning of the contest? “...is the goal of this contest not to eat all the food we see? So we're not trying to steal from others until we're the last one standing?” She asks, her voice smaller and her shoulders droop. From a distance, she hears the man at the table checking people in, explaining this as a timed eating challenge. As they are steered away to tables, she realizes she will be sitting with the small man - and his companion Iris- and the satyr. This is a huge obstacle to her plan, and she's no longer a voracious and quick eater. Voracious, yes…speedy, no more. At the Fae's wiser and more sensible words, Nobine slowly nods her head. There are no other animals, and if Duqing isn’t simply stealing food from others, maybe she'll have to rethink her strategy.
Her eyes narrow as she side-eyes the gnome before her face shifts to a more welcoming and sweet look. “Sorry, sir. I suppose Duqing can merely cheer you on? With your friend”. On second thought, after carefully looking the man up and down maybe it's best he receives no help. “Though…what are you? A small human?” She leans closer, the sun reflecting off her eyes - all 5 of them - before flicking up towards Iris. "Ooohhhh, and I haven't seen one of you since I was but a little grub. What are you doing traveling with...Old Man? I suppose though we’re all quite far away from where we started." Nobine trails off a little ending her words with a glance at Corellia.
Still little irritated at how that pretty goat-legged stranger dismissed her earlier, the excitement and fire of competition lit in her soul. Stepping back and propping her hands on her hips, she shakes her head at the woman. “I haven't been here for long…or well conscious for long,” she waves a hand dismissively, “but surely the prize for 1st place is the best! So I won't be settling for 3rd.” a large pointed smile grows on her face as this contest suddenly becomes more than eating all the free food she could want.
Once they all have been directed towards a table with 6 large empty platters from a distance, she hears a feminine-sounding voice prattle on about honour, dignity, playing fair, and other not essential etiquettes for the contest. Each table has 6 contestants, each looking ready to compete, a few waving at the crowd who are placing bets.
Glancing at her most important competitors, she asks, "sooooo as we are all familiar with the etiquette, what may I call you both? Unless you want to give your name," she smiles, looking at the gnome. “Here, for now, I prefer Nobine.”

Her attention shifted between the old gnome and the many-eyed Fae, they were both a curious sort. At least there was some entertainment while she had to wait in line, a surprised hum came from her lips as she watched a Pixie appear out of the gnome's hood. A curious thing to have three Fae in one place outside of the Land of Wonder.
She shrugged a shoulder, unbothered, "Don't worry about it. You're not a pickpocket clearly so I've nothing to be upset about." Giving a polite bow of her head, noting both of their names. Her gaze shifting back over to the many-eyed Fae as Iris pointed her out, "Definitely not common especially not in these parts. I'm surprised to see two other Fae in one place, let alone to see a pixie roaming around with a material-walker."
Corellia looked to Nobine, "Well, if you make it the point of the contest then sure. But the point is to eat the give amount the fastest. And if you do that then you get a prize at the end, so, free food plus a reward." She said with a soft smile. She would move along the line as they were moved to tables, she sat very prim and proper for someone that was about to be in a competition where people gorged themselves. She looked to the antennae'd Fae seeing how she drooped, "No one said your bird can't swoop in and attack some of the contestants though." She whispered, hoping to see some mischief and get a good laugh if the bird did do so.
The satyr turned to the gnome when the question of what he was came up, "I second the question, I've not seen anyone such as yourself yet. I've seen all sorts, but, I'm finding there are many things I don't know of outside of my usual roaming grounds." She looked back to Nobine, "Isn't that just the truth." She had spent so long away from home that it was now more of a distant memory, blurred and nostalgic more than anything.
She smiled down at the smaller Fae, amused by the display of annoyance she found it rather cute. "We're in a similiar enough boat in that respect. I've not been here for long." She'd been locked away for an incredibly long time before having crashed here. She'd just been enjoying the newfound freedom. She nodded at her, "Don't settle for third place, but don't expect to take first from me~" she teased with utter confidence to her voice.
"You may call me Corellia." She was very privy to the etiquette; she wasn't willing to give her name to anyone not in the way that Nobine was likely hoping.

Iris looked at Nobine in her large and all-black eyes. Iris tapped her chin a few times with her finger. "The old man Saved my life. I was captive by bandits and he rescued me. That was some time ago now. I owe him my life," Iris explained with admiration in her voice.
Watching the two bost who would be the best eater made Gafelker chuckle at the two. This is going to be fun being able to eat for free was not a bad deal. The smell of the food was good. At least it was not going to be some trashy food or some old leftovers. Thought Gafelker with a sly smile on his face.
When asked his name he knew of some of the customs of the two Faeborne and not getting their real names. "I am Gafelker from the village of Konell in Moonglade," he explained. "And this is Iris, my companion," Gafelker said as Iris landed on his shoulders. " As for the Bird swapping in some of the people that would be entertaining. But be warned Iris has an electric personality and can be vary shocking when she gets riled up." explained Gafelker looking at the other two.
"As for first place, we will see who gets that spot," said Gafelker with confidence. "I have not eaten in a while so I have a lot of space to fill. Don't let my size fool you." says Gafelker with a crafty smile.

Nobine mumbles both their names several times, testing out the syllables in her mouth. Trying different combinations of the names and in the back of her mind was the image of her with that name. Shaking her head to rid herself of the image she smiled and said, “Those are some very nice names.” Nodding her head in affirmation to herself she mumbled their names one more time putting it for maybe future use. When many, many years have passed, and if she hasn't taken a name.
The confidence in Corellia's voice merely excites Nobine into trying to win no matter what. “Well no matter how both of us might have some things in common. First place won't be one of them.” Her eyes look around at the posture of some other citizens. Some have their shoulders drawn back, chest puffed out, and with an easy going smile. Others are tensier going through from last minute prep. There's the very prim and properly sat satyr and gnome with Iris sitting on his shoulder. Turning towards Gafelker as well in his sly smile she tuts and waggles her index figure, “remember it's about speed. And eating all the food you've got.” She draws out the word all, already coming up with a plan. A plan to hopefully come out victorious!! At this point whatever is hidden away in those shiny wrapped boxes with perfect tulle bows on top doesn't matter. What matters is the glory that comes about shoving massive amounts of free food down your gullet. The glory of ruining everyone else's plans! She notes both of the others potential plans for Duqing but frowns a little that she didn't think of chaos first.
Coughing to rid herself of what she's sure is the overly confident look on her face, she softens her brows while looking at the gnome and pixie. “Either way this plays out small man, it was very generous of you to save Iris. Though tsk, tsk what type of lunatic would trap another. Truly if they yet still haunt this realm we ought to get rid of them.”
After a little while a lady dressed in bright fun summer colours explains the rule to the growing crowd. “Again the goal is to eat as quickly as possible all the food served. There shall be a person taking time at each table,” the lady gestures to people carrying a stopwatch and a clipboard, “and if there happens to be ties another round! Of course it depends if people are still conscious.” The crowd laughs at that and though Nobine chuckles along it seems like Duqing is concerned about the ridiculousness of it all. Soon some people bring out massive carts filled with food under a cover and roll them to each table.
Leaning forward, practically laying on top of the table, her nose and antennas twitch attempting to pick up the scent, unfortunately there are so many smells layering this area. Throwing herself back - gently - she sighs, resigning herself to discover what food they'll be scarfing down when everyone else finds out. Then promptly turns to her companions and asks, “do you guys know what it is? I hope it's something sour hehehe.”

Corellia looked to Gafelker and Iris, chuckling a little at the mention of the pixie having an electric personality. "I wonder if you mean that very literally or not. It'd be quite funny to see a contestant get to experience this... electric personality." she said with a small smirk. She appreciated the gnome's confidence in himself, even if she didn't feel like he was much of a threat. Maybe she would be proven wrong, she did enjoy being surprised perhaps this was a case where she would be.
She looked to Nobine, "Very nice names. And I intend to keep mine for myself so don't be getting any ideas." She said with a teasing tone.
The satyr was pleasantly surprised by both the gnome and this fae's confidence in themselves, if she won it would mean crushing their spirits a little. Making the thought of winning all the more exciting to her, especially if she could do so without having to actually struggle through eating all the enormous amounts of food they'd be brought.
She watched as the brightly dressed woman came out to explain the rules. The carts that were pulled out seemed rather large, she hoped it wasn't full of any foods she didn't like. Even though she intended to cheat she would still have to eat some of the food to keep up the illusion of participating in the contest properly.
Looking to Nobine as the question was asked, "I wish I did, but I haven't got a clue. Hopefully nothing too... unsavory. And hopefully nothing sour." She said crinkling her nose at the thought, "I wouldn't mind something sweet personally." She sighed, she hoped it was sweets. Even something as simple as pancakes would make her happy.

Iris looked at Corellia. "I do not have an electric personality Oldman!" answered Iris as she started to glow a fiery red. "Do I look like a light or lighting pixie?" Iris said with a smile as a Flame danced in her hand. Gafelker gave a chuckle. The flame went out as Iris crossed her arms and looked for an answer from Gafelker.
" OK, OK, I am sorry Iris," Gafelker said. He raised his hands in surrender. Gafelker smiled and looked at Nobine. "I would save my precious friend hundreds of times if I had to. I did think it was barbaric for what the bandits did. They burned for it to." replied Gafelker with a sly grin. He turned his head to see the carts of food rolled out with platters of food sausages, pancakes, and thick bacon. The aroma made Gafelker's mouth water.
The plates were placed in front of everyone with the two meets and pancakes stacked high. A mug of water for each person at the tables. The crowd started to cheer and chant different things money being bet as the food was served to the people in the contest.
Gafelker had a big smile on his face. Win? Gafelker thought well maybe not but full yes. But Gafelker had his little secret he could use. His temperature started to rise a little people could feel some heat come off of him as he grind.

Nobine eye's lock into the flames emitted from Iris's hands with fascination before letting out a chuckle at what Gafelker said. "I'm glad you were able to seek justice for who you consider your friends. It's only right that they suffered for daring to take away one's liberties." Looking the gnome up and down she finds herself pleasantly surprised that he could be sly at all. Or the matter of helping rid this material plane of bandits with fire.
Playfully she sighs and her shoulder slumps at Corellia's tease before shrugging with a 'had to try' smile. "Sweets would be good." she mumbles to herself licking her lips at all the potential food items.
As the plates are given out her mouth drops open and waters at the sight of large stacks of pancakes with this sugary substances smearing each stack. Each flat cakes was fluffy, perfectly browned, and teetering on the plates held together by the sticky sugar. Shivers fun up and down her body her concealed wings shifting under her large jacket at the smell of sugar wafting from the pancakes. She could still feel the warmth emitted from the fresh goods and could almost taste the butter that was slathered on.
She shifts a little feeling a little warmer, far warmer than what the pancakes would make her and her brows furrow a little at the new sensation. Once the lady shouts for time to begin she dismisses this and dives in. Her furred hands grabbing the first pancake as syrup drips everywhere and shoves it in her mouth. And though this is meant to be a quick competition the simple flavour of the pancake stops her. It was a phenomenal pancake just all the right portions, to Nobine's palate at least, and she sits there savoring it. Before long she comes back shaking off the stupour of good food to see all the rest chowing down.
Swallowing she lets out a few whimsical whistles before eating another pancake. While focused on the stacks in front of her she sees her little warbler fly off and swoop down onto the head of another contestant distracting them. I'll have Duqing eliminate some of the other contestants before aiming at the two most worthy. Maybe once Iris steps away, poor Duqing is too frail to go against her head to head. From a distance amidst the cheering audience she hears squawking of the poor contestants badgered by the bird and the clattering of knocked-overed mugs and pancakes stakes from the other table.

Corellia chuckled watching with amusement as the little pixie ignited with flames, "You look like a little torch right about now." She said with a small smirk on her lips. "Careful not to burn the food."
She sighed as the smell of food arrived, pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be stacks of pancakes. It was something sweet to eat, something comforting and yummy. Sitting back in her seat as she awaited everything to be set up, her stomach couldn't help but let out a little growl as the food sat in front of her. Perhaps she was hungrier than she gave herself credit for, that or the craving of sweets just made her feel more so.
Once the woman had shouted out for the contest to begin Corellia would grab a fork and knife, her gaze shifting between each of the contestants. A disturbed expression at how messy some of the opponents were being, watching as Nobine had dug in directly with her hands into the pancakes. If she did that then she would have syrup clinging to her fur... the last thing she needed was that bit of annoyance to deal with. She pulled out a knife and a fork and began to slowly and politely eat her food.
Taking the time to enjoy each bite, it didn't appear she was in any rush at all. And at the rate she appeared to be eating she would have been dead last in this competition. She looked as Nobine sent out Duqing out towards one of the contestants.
Oh, we're starting out nonsense so early on.
As she continued to eat her food she would sneakily place a pocket portal on top of her plate, just below her food just large enough to begin sneaking away pieces of her pancakes into the void. Continuing to casually eat her pancakes at that slow rate, only for it to appear as though she was eating far faster than she was.

Iris gave a head bow to Corellia for her complement. Gafelker gave a smile. "Yes, that is Iris. She lights up my life," Gafelker commented as he looked at Corellia and Nobine.
The pancakes were soft, flawlessly browned, and stacked on the plates covered by the brown sugar liquid. Gafelker's mouth watered at the smell of the pancakes.
Once they had yelled out for the competition to start Gafelker skipped the fork and knife there and just reached over with his hands and folded the pancake in his hands. Gafelker looked up at each of the competitors. A disturbed expression on his face as the pancake sizzled in his hands and his mouth as he ate the pancake almost whole.
The others were shoveling their food too not wasting any time. Gafelker knew only less than half of the food was sitting in his stomach as it was being burned on the way down Gafelker wondered if fire dragons felt like this when they ate their food. He kept looking around as he put more food in his mouth and his body got hotter. By this point, Gafelker could not feel Iris's heat anymore.
Gafelker realized he was falling behind sure he could take a lot of food in but he still needed to chew it. But all cared about was the food. All Gafelker wanted was free food and not go hungry. but winning would be nice as well.
Corellia and Nobine were getting ahead by a half of place or more of pancakes. He could not seem to keep up but he would not give up either as he picked up the pace of shoving food in his mouth.
