Gwendolyns Fur-lined robes fluttered in the breeze, her glasses fogging slightly as she overlooked the tower in the center of the valley. A snowstorm roils above as the Manor Maids pack up camp. It wouldn’t be long now. All they were waiting on was the backup that was promised before they moved on the Lich that lay in wait. It would be unlikely that their presence at this point was a surprise, she could only hope that such an ancient evil would vastly underestimate what was about to happen. She was muttering to herself about how easy it would be to beam him from here with Arkanon Lux. Hubris maybe, he was well holed up, and one magical attack would probably by ineffective against a master mage. Her glasses picked up an intense aura of dark energy coming from the entire area, concentrating on the spire that rose in the middle. Yep, he was watching them from within. She was honestly more surpised that they had been allowed to camp here for two days with little interference. “Uh… Mistress? Gwen?” Jess tapped at her shoulder. “We’re almost ready to start moving, have you seen our support show up yet?”
Only slightly startled by the interruption, Gwen turned to the maid and shook her head. “Not yet, we’ll give it another few minutes. After that, we’ll have to trust that they’ll meet us there. Can’t wait much longer, Nikivec is probably eagerly awaiting our arrival. Wouldn’t want to be rude would we?” She replied, smiling confidently. Hopping down from the boulder, she barked out the order for alchemical preparations. The maids each reached into their pouches and retrieved a small vial. One by one, they cracked them under their noses and inhaled deeply. Mori shook her head side to side, coughing a little as the smelling salts had always offended her delicate senses. Gwendolyn snapped her own vial underneath the veil, and looked to the sky. It was hard to tell the time without the suns presence, but it wouldn’t be much longer now. The warming air of spring often brought a soft fog to the Isles as the morning dew collected in wispy pillows of white. Taki spent the foggy morning in her greenhouse tending the various herbs, spices and small fruits. Once done, she took a stroll through her orchard and plucked a basket of ripened fruits. With the chores complete, she stored everything away and went inside to enjoy a break. She retrieved a snack of fruit juice and muffin, then retreated to her study with her pipe kit.
While she was taking a break, a messenger arrived with a summons from the Mage's Guild. Kamina thanked the traveler and made sure to refresh both rider and steed before they left. Once the shaman finished her break, the pixie delivered the message to her. The request was one of urgent and dire circumstance, involving several former members and leaders. Apparently they had been taken from their resting places by a powerful former member, and the Guild wanted this crisis dealt with quickly. She was to accompany another member of the guild on this quest, meeting them near the last known location of their quarry.
Taki gathered her things and checked the stores, stopping in to inform her companions she'd be traveling. Yukina, Hakaze and Shuchu all wanted to accompany the shaman but she needed haste, stealth and most importantly concentration. It would also be a nice reprieve for her generally busy companions, who worked tirelessly around her home and out in the field. With a sound determination, she bid her companions and home farewell as she called a pool of soft, morning fog to her and stepped onto the mass of mist1.
Aloft, she was able to make wonderful time and commune with the various spirits of wind and air. Many of them enjoyed the shaman's passing and presence, though some were perturbed or indifferent. She bid them all well as she approached the site, her outfit shifting2 from something suitable for riding to heavy winter robes of soft whites that displayed the emblem of the Mage's Guild. Landing not far from this group, she approached cautiously as they just as easily might have been the missing mages turned undead. Taki kept low, crawling much like a spider might along the ground until she could hear their voices.
"Uh… Mistress? Gwen? We’re almost ready to start moving, have you seen our support show up yet?” One of the group asked another.
“Not yet, we’ll give it another few minutes. After that, we’ll have to trust that they’ll meet us there. Can’t wait much longer, Nikivec is probably eagerly awaiting our arrival. Wouldn’t want to be rude would we?” They responded.
Support? Nikivec awaiting? Their voices certainly didn't give any indication of undeath, so either Taki was about to step into the biggest snake pit of her adventures so far... or she was right where she was supposed to be. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves, then stood up to greet the group before her.
"Good day to you all, might you be with the Mage's Guild?"

Gwendolyn turned around with a start, almost swinging her maul before noticing the Guild Emblem emblazoned on the blue tinted Orochi. Thanking the gods with a silent prayer, she let her weapons resume their initial positions floating behind her. Extending a gloved hand in welcome, she graciously greeted their guest. “Yes! Yes, I’m a second ring of the Mage’s Guild, Lady Gwendolyn Mystwud. These are my maids, Mori, Millicent, and Jessica.” She says, offering a pause for a return introduction, relieved that backup had arrived before they had all thrown their lives away. Her maids graciously bowed with the introduction. “I assume the guild has sent you as well, to deal with our little graverobber situation? Nikivec is holed up in that tower in the valley. We’ve been here for a day or two, so it is presumed that he is aware of our presence. Though whether he has taken note of your arrival is yet to be seen.”
She looks back out over the valley, thinking to herself for a minute. Of all the times where it has been needed, she missed her sleigh the most right now. It was lost to her after an incident in Zeinav, along with the reindeer that had pulled it. Looking back to the assembled mages, she states with sullen tone. “Alright, looks like an hour or two on foot. Stay on guard for any traps, or other magical tomfoolery. Nikivec will likely notice our approach before long, and will likely begin his counter assault as we get closer. Best of luck to you all” She states grimly, before turning to begin the hike. "Shitakibo, or Taki if you prefer. Indeed that is my purpose today, how might I be able to support your group?"
The shaman replied, observing the group and their demeanor. They seemed coordinated, well geared and prepared for the situation, so Taki could only imagine what more they might need in this situation. She looked out over the frigid terrain towards the tower in question, studying the approach and it's various features. There wasn't much for cover, nor did there seem to be any clear path leading towards the spire.
“Alright, looks like an hour or two on foot. Stay on guard for any traps, or other magical tomfoolery. Nikivec will likely notice our approach before long, and will likely begin his counter assault as we get closer. Best of luck to you all." Gwen said after some consideration, her tone saddened by the situation for some reason. The group began to trudge through across the frozen tundra without hesitation, so Taki quietly followed along, spreading her senses1 out over the area to keep watch for mundane traps or ambushes.
She had to wonder what the overall plan here was, as they were not dealing with a run of the mill situation. This former mage was likely expecting incursion, and wouldn't be taking kindly to it. The matter of the risen former guild members was also concerning... what kind of abominable rituals or plans did this menace have? Why did they need former mages in a state of unlife? All Taki could do was hope some answers were to be found within the tower.

It was about half an hour into their hike before the party stopped. A break in the snow flurries revealed two figures stood before them. One was a tall, gaunt sun-elf with robes that seemed woefully cold to be out here for long. The other was significantly shorter, though floating in the air despite the flurries. Possibly a gnome? No matter, a quick look revealed the same symbol that Taki was wearing dangling from their necks, each with a gnarly slash down the middle. These were two of the missing Archmages… Gwendolyn held a hand aloft, signaling her team to standby. There was something off about their magical auras. Through the glasses, she could see what could be assumed to be their natural mana. But there was also a stream of dark magic flowing from the tower into their bodies, strangling their natural aura with Nikivecs. “Thei-“ She starts, before being cut off by a bolt of lightning striking her directly in the chest. Blown backwards into the group by the force of the bolt, a smoking hole in the center of her robe. Gasping for air, she looked up at her enemies, Seeing the Elven Archmage pointing a spindly finger towards her, energy still crackling from the tip. Gwendolyns Maul takes a defensive position in front of her, while the Arkanon instinctively fires a shot towards the elf on behalf of it’s master. Millicent looks for only a moment at her master on the ground, before diving behind an evergreen and shooting a lightning bolt back at the elf. Mori stands tall in the middle of the path, aiming her wand and throwing a stream of fire as well. All three attacks beamed across the battlefield before being met with a massive wall of light, summoned by the gnomish wizard. It stands tall before the mages, and the shots taken by the crew bounce harmlessly into the treeline. The shaman picked up on the figures just a moment before they unleashed their attack. She managed to avoid getting caught in the initial blast, dropping low to the ground and spider crawling over to Gwendolyn. A bright blue glow wreathed the shaman's body as she approached, which she focused into the palm of her hand and poured into the smoking wound. The brightness spread through the wound1, mending damage and dissipating the shocking effect.
"Catch your breath a moment, if you please." Taki said in a calm and motherly tone. She carefully peaked from the low crouch to gain an accurate bearing on the pair of assaulting undead. The Wall of Light was an interesting choice, though not without it's limitation. Crawling away from Gwendolyn to give her team space, she scurried over to a small hill and took up position to lend further support. She pondered the situation and how best to approach this opening battle. Well aware of the magics of both Sky and Light, it would not do well for them to exchange blows in close proximity.
Splitting the pair up would be an amusing approach, and being able to limit the effectiveness of the defensive spell would prove a boon. Once again the shaman's magic enshrouded her body, then spread out into the earth. From beneath the ground, a large pillar of solid crystal2 burst forth between the pair. The smaller caster deflected the pillar's jagged protrusions with their barrier3, while the taller of the pair jaunted themselves several feet away with a swirl of air and lightning4. Taki's senses spread out over the battlefield, as she prepared herself for the next volley5.

Gwendolyn laid back, opening her eyes and seeing Taki’s magic pour into herself. The pain eased, and a soft warmth spread from her wound to the rest of her body. A few seconds and a deep inhale brought her back to her senses. Sitting up, it seemed that the pair had been split by a large crystal protrusion that had erupted from the ground. The gnome continues swinging it’s shield defensively before wrapping it’s light around himself, and bursting outwards with an incredibly bright flash. 1 Mori and Millicent double over in pain, clutching their eyes in blind agony. Mori, who had been attempting to throw another firebolt misfires into the treeline past the archmages, igniting a few of the lush evergreens. 2 Millicent crouches, waves her hands to form a sigil, a blows a cloud of smoke out towards where the gnome was last seen. 3 If she was going to be blind, so were they damnit. Jess, luckily, was focused on the elf who had dodged to the other side of the battlefield. She draws a spike of ice from a snowdrift near where she had been taking cover. The elf comes to a stop a little ways from Taki, his attention on the more powerful caster. She lines up a shot, and spears the archmage through the shoulder from behind. 4 A short fist pump of victory before he looks over his injured shoulder to the young maid, who quickly hides back behind cover. There was a bright flash as the smaller mage struggled with the changing situation, a moment before she heard the one closer get hit by another spell. At least for the moment, the shaman had managed to split them up, but she needed a plan to keep it that way. A devious grin crossed her features as she recalled a certain adventure she'd been on. Being eaten twice in one day was not an occasion one was soon to forget, and it gave her a wonderful plan to keep this situation in their favor. A gust of wind passed overhead, shaping itself into a sharp blade 1 before cleaving through the trunk of a tree. Taki smiled wide as she caught the snowy log, her legs and tail bracing while her arms bore the weight and kept it from slamming down on the shaman. While not exactly what she'd wanted, it would do for a moment's distraction for her to cast the spell she actually wanted to cast. Squatting her knees low, and tucking four of her six arms around the base, Taki took two heavy steps forward and heaved 2 the hewn tree end over end towards the taller mage. As soon as she her hands were free, she traced a sigil in the cold ground before pulling a piece of coral from her robes and and crushing it. As the powder was sprinkled over the sigil, her magic flowed deep into the earth and down to the ocean floor. She answered the rumbling with a loud bellow of her own, the sound haunting and primal as it called out to the summoned spirit 3. Near the elven mage, the ground seemed to move like the surface of the ocean as a great beast swam below. A moment later, the head of a massive Stone Leviathan surfaced, it's cavernous maw letting out an answering bellow. As the rest of it's bulk slipped free of the earth's hold, it aimed at the mage and lazily swam forward through the sky. It cast a wide shadow over the mage, descending towards them as they hurled a stone charged with powerful magics at the lethargic behemoth. A booming roar echoed across the area as the Thunder Bomb 4 exploded on the creature's hardened exterior, leaving a wide scorch mark across the leviathan's stony surface. The creature did not slow, again opening it's maw as it readied to swallow it's prey whole.
1: Elven Mage [Wind Cutter] 2: Extra Arms [Bull's Strength x2, Baloth Muscles (all limbs)] 3: The Stone Titan's Hunger [1/3 Duration, Overwhelming Magic] This spell represents the intersection between the earth and the sea domain. By crushing a piece of coral, the material component required by this spell, you can let out a loud bellow and summon a stone leviathan. The leviathan lasts for three posts, and it swims through the air in an almost lethargic, sluggish manner. Although its movements are slow, its massive size and tough hide make it nigh indestructible. Its overwhelming hunger compels it; it will attempt to swallow the first hostile person it sees in one piece, enveloping the target in its stomach. If the person attempts to flee, the leviathan will do whatever it takes to chase that person down - even though its movements are slow in the air it is capable of burrowing underneath the ground and moving under the earth with startling speed. Once the target is trapped in the stomach for the duration of the spell and takes minor acid damage from the titan's digestive tract. Once the titan dissolves in a wave of seafoam, the target is dropped to the ground. This can only be summoned once per topic. 4: Elven Mage [Thunder Bomb]

Gwendolyn gets to her feet and begins running towards the plume of smoke that Millicent had let off. The ground rumbles below her, and the sky dims above as a massive stone monster floats by. A large boom erupts, shortly before the flying leviathan crashes mouth first into the elven mage. The gnome floating there takes little time to mourn his companion. A mote of light grows on the tip of his finger, pointed towards the dashing noble. Her glasses tell her what he is about to cast. A thin beam erupts out, aimed directly for Gwen's heart. The forewarning gives her just enough time to lift her hand, interrupting the beam with the palm of her gauntlet whilst the other hand raised Hallowed Redolence high. Metal melted, sizzling in the snow, but it did little to prevent the maul from meeting it’s target. A rapid flurry of blows burns through what little physical protection the mage wielded. Smash after smash sent cinders both physical and ethereal into the air, each hit igniting a flash like a smith working an anvil. After the third, even the mage’s very soul ignited in a blue-purple inferno that sent licks of ethereal flame from his eye-sockets. Jessica came up behind her, putting a hand on the noblewoman's shoulder, bidding an end to her rampage. Gwendolyn panted, adrenaline still coursing through her veins, the steam from her breath escaping her veil. The gnome was little more than a crumpled mass of ash and bone once the flames subsided. Looking up, the tendrils that stretched from the tower to the thralls retreated back within it’s depths. “Haaa… ha….” She sighed, trying to catch her breath. “Let’s…let’s get going. Millicent, package what you can find. We will be returning the corpses to the guild catacombs.”
Millicent dispelled her smokey aura, rubbing her eyes blearily, still not able to see entirely. “Yes, mlady.”Double Strike x2 0(7)pts/MAT/Fire/Light/HEAVY/Soul Bonded

Taki brushed away the dust and detritus, taking a moment to clear her thoughts and stretch her senses. The area around her held no further secrets that she could detect, so she moved up to rejoin the group. They'd done well tackling the ambush, and handled the situation's changes with decisive action. It would be good to settle this matter, return these mages to their peaceful rest, and give the one responsible a swift kick in the rear... for posterity's sake.
Pulling her cloak closer against the bitter winds, she looked out towards the tower in the distance. There was still a good bit of ground to cover, and some of the spirits stirred restlessly. Whatever this foolhardy mage was attempting, they needed to put an end to it before it added further troubles to Charon's everchanging list. Between expeditions, invasions from other realms, and primordial spirits reshaping the landscape, there was more than enough to do for everyone.
Quietly, she followed the others while she scanned the area. Geomagnetic Sense1 spread out around her, giving the shaman a clear view of all on or beneath the ground for a moderate distance. Adding to this, she chose one of the numerous clouds overhead and shifted her perspective2 to it's location. It took a moment to adjust to the sensations and still move around, but she was getting better at it with each practice. Taking a deep breath, her body continued forward while her sight followed from above. Ahead of them were copses of trees that made detail within difficult when viewed from above, causing the shaman to slow her pace.
"Careful ahead, there's poor visibility and ample places to create opportunity."

Her glasses picked up on the magical energy that passed through the earth and the sky as they continued their approach. This Shitakibo was extraordinarily connected to the natural world. On top of that, they appeared to be a third ring mage with the guild, her aura reeking of exalted natural magics. A druid? Probably. She makes a mental note to avoid damaging any more trees. The grove surrounding the tower was indeed growing more dense with dead overgrowth and ancient trees. The druid gave a warning and slowed her pace, bringing Gwendolyn and her maids to be ready for anything. Entering the denser area required her to begin using her maul to move the underbrush from their path. Brambles and broken sticks grasped and snagged at their clothes as they passed through, tearing a small hole in the bottom of her skirt. “Fuck” She muttered softly, freeing the fabric from the bushes clutches. Not a moment later, a deep, skeletal screech echoed from above. The tower loomed ahead as a dark shadow encroached on their position. A massive, emaciated dragon swooped low above the treeline, and opened it’s decayed jaw. It’s maw spewed forth a stream of necrotic gas which spread over the party of mage’s. Gwendolyn grit her teeth as the dark energy washed over her, but she stood tall, unaffected by the brunt of the poisonous effects. Mori and Jess however, were forced to their knees, covering their face’s with their aprons as the toxic fog settled into the trees. Desperate coughs nearly brought them to their knees, and their progress forward was halted. She spotted the drake's descent a moment after it was summoned, and was about to shout a warning when it's maw opened. Gwen getting tangled up in some of the underbrush had proven disastrous in the moment, catching them in the brunt of the effect. Taki had a moment to react to the spell1, squatting slightly before leaping high over the toxic fumes. The skeletal creature faded away a moment after it's attack, but the effect seemed to linger. A cloud formed2 beneath the shaman's feet as she began descending, growing into a small platform for her to stand upon.
Scanning the area, she spotted no immediate threats, but figured there would be a follow up attack. Beside the shaman, a softly glowing mist took the form of a serpentine spirit3 with flowing fins down either side. It sported long, thin 'whiskers' and a pair of wavy horns with a single spike splitting away near the ends. Her spirit guardian's aura was a gentle warmth that helped embolden her spells.
Choosing an area in front of Gwendolyn and company, the shaman's magic poured forth. Surrounded in a swirling, cyan glow, Taki's magic reached out to the spirits of the earth. A moment later, the ground rumbled as it strained against the coaxing magic and sprouted forth. A line4 of solid earth roughly twenty feet long and ten high appeared before the afflicted group to shield them from any further assault. As the shaman descended towards the group to help, the wall was rocked by a powerful blast5. Heat and flame blasted forth in a column, vented away from the group as the earthen structure was slammed. It held, for the moment, but the shaman knew better than to think this assault was over.
"Once this poison clears, I'll gladly tend to any injuries but we shouldn't stay here long. Likely that won't be the last of their spells."

“Gods be damned” she hissed as the explosion rocked the forest around her. This certainly wasn’t where she wanted to die, but the mage’s in their tower were certainly bogging them down. It was time for decisive moves to get inside and safe from bombardment. The staff that followed her glowed brightly under the stone wall, illuminating the party. Gwendolyn concentrated her magic into the conduit, overcharging the focusing crystals within. She grasped it’s engraved silver form, a feat made difficult from the sheer amount of energy concentrated within, and pointed it towards the base of the tower. All was silent for a moment, until a massive beam of light erupted from the tip. The beam burned through the decrepit wood of the forest like a hot knife, and slammed into the base of the tower with a roar. A moment later, and the light was gone. Gwendolyn blinked a few times to get rid of the afterimage, only to admire the work her weapon had done. A perfect path had been burned through the forest, the red hot edges of trees still glowing in a circular line leading directly to the tower. Molten stone dripped from the top of the hole made by the Arkanon, a perfect circle cut through the base that even went out through the other side. Gwendolyn smirked, and tossed the weapon off to the side, it's inner workings almost certainly melted beyond quick repair. “We’ll heal inside, out here is too dangerous.” She ordered, waving her maids to get back on their feet and follow her. They dashed through the smouldering path to enter the stony structure, and avoid any further bombardment from above. The inside of the tower was…poorly decorated to say the least. Arcane gems bolted to the wall, sigils carved into the stone seemingly at random. A cylinder of dark magic flowed upwards from the center of the room, catching bits of snow that drifted in from the gaping holes in the wall and sending them upwards.
