For better or worse, Leandros was always in the same armor and outfit regardless of the season. As the cold of winter started to bite in the air, it was for the better. The thick lion fur of his cloak kept him warm as he walked through the market. Winter's Crown was right around the corner and as always he was desperate to do good by his wife.
There was a part of him that knew Apogee didn't really care what the gift was, but the good boy part of him wanted to be a good boy. It was also hard to shop when most of their needs were always met. There were few things either of them truly needed and they wanted for nothing. It makes for quite the conundrum to get something truly worthwhile.
His hands were too clumsy when not holding a halberd that he couldn't simply make her something. The bare knowledge he had of blacksmithing only allowed him to make horseshoes and anything more delicate like wood carving was beyond his ken. So, what was the Lion of the Landing to do?
The consternation on his face was obvious as he looked about the stalls, clearly wrapped up in his own world.

There were few things Cyran enjoyed about being home.
Or, well - not home, not anymore. It was little more than the city of his birthplace, streets he’d grown up in that had shunned him upon his exile. He never imagined being back here, much less the circumstances in which his return had been dictated. Having his exile revoked and his noble title reinstated was a bitter pill to swallow. Especially on the tail end of… things he’d rather forget at the moment.
At least there was a silver lining to all of this. There were few markets that matched the merchant stalls upon the Moonlit Docks, where ship hands, artisans, and thieves alike all scrambled to sell their wares. If one was smart, they could find anything here. And, well - there was no better way to take his mind off of the turbulent last couple of months than by thinking of others. He and Del had been through so much lately… place to place, dealing with obstacle upon obstacle, to reach a destination that was not so kind to them. Del had been through so much because of his past and his actions and she bore it all with nothing but grace and a smile.
Cyran wanted to give her the world.
But, much to his chagrin, he could not; so he would settle for the next best thing instead.
Assassin’s hands were not meant for creating things except blood. Del’s carpentry and smithing expertise allowed her to make such thoughtful gifts, trinkets like the wooden floral clasp currently fastened around his coat. Cyran’s fumbling attempts at craftsmanship couldn’t hope to match her finery. The marketplace would have to do… surely, it was filled with something odd or interesting that would suit her fancy. With a determination that dimmed the sense of listlessness that had plagued him since awaking from the battle of Vulcadreus, Cyran shrugged on his cloak and made his way to the market.
The sensation of walking streets he’d once known so intimately was an odd one. Silently traipsing cobblestone paths down streets that he knew from memory ought to have been a comfort; yet he was only filled with the remorse of someone who knew that it would never feel the same as it once did.
That was just fine. He was hardly the same person, either.
Still; his odd attire and outwardly frosty demeanor garnered few odd looks from vendors that were selling their wares. Most didn’t pay attention to him at all, which suited him just fine. It was doubtful anyone would make the connection between Eclipse City’s most shameful son and the quiet man clad in black leathers, dressed properly for mourning. That did not stop him from being wary of everyone on the street that he passed, or frustrated that he’d not found anything of interest Del would fancy.
Cyran was only out for perhaps an hour when he spotted someone in the crowd - taller than himself, though it was not just his height that made him easy to spot. It was the glint of his armor, the way he held himself with an air of authority, not arrogance. He was a man to be respected. He was a man to be listened to.
More importantly, he was a friend.
But what was Leandros doing all the way out here? The last time Cyran had seen him was during the battle in Darkveil, and - they really had to stop meeting like this, but Cyran had been a bit too tied up to answer his and Apogee’s social call - he would have assumed the knight might prefer to spend time at home, ensuring that everything was safe and sound as the world was plunged into yet another unknowable schism. Whatever the reasons, he wasn’t complaining. It was nice to see a familiar face right now.
With a smile that came easier with the promise of good company, Cyran waved his hand, striding up to Leandros at the stall he’d been occupied with. “Of all the people I expected to see here, I’d not guessed I might find you. How have you been, Leandros? It’s been a few months, hasn’t it?”

Leandros had felt a similar unmooring of the self after Vulcadreus. In the immediate aftermath he consumed his time by continuing to help, to carry the burdens of everyone else. Even with his injuries, he pushed past them trying to help any person who asked for better or for worse.
The weight of everything that had been happening in the world did burden his shoulders mightily. Watching so many trying to tak advantage of the situation or the disappointed faces when supplies ran out also pulled him down and it all kept pulling until his wife forced the break on him.
Of course, part of him felt like he was letting people down by not being out and helping, but as Apogee said only so much can be done. A lion cannot rule over every pride. The softness of his wife's embrace was also a much more soothing balm than the weight of the world.
It was with that knowledge that he was deadset in finding the perfect gift. His face was fixed in concentration, holding his chin in hand as he surveyed the items. Leandros' focus was so tight it could be mistaken for concern. He didn't even notice Cyran until the elf was upon him.
"Oh! Well met Cyran." He smiled sheepishly, embarassed to be caught so off guard. "It has been. The world never seems to stop moving, does it?"

“My apologies for starting you.” It was Cyran’s turn now to look sheepish, sorry to have startled the knight. It was clear Leandros had been deep in concentration, staring at the marketplace stall like it was a matter of life or death. Was something wrong? Had he been tasked with the job of seeking out counterfeit goods? Was this some kind of undercover sting Cyran wasn’t privy to? It looked like an innocuous enough stall, filled with moon-touched seaglass jewelry from the shores of Eclipse City. Pretty, but nothing particularly odd or out of place…
He was so worried about what could be bothering the knight that he almost missed Leandros addressing him. “Hm?” He asked as he leaned over to inspect a pair of earrings, one that might suit the headscarf Del often wore…
“Oh, yes. The world has been so helter-skelter since…” Well, Lee knew exactly what Cyran was referring to. They’d both been present for the rise and fall of Vulcadreus, after all. “But it’s to be expected. You throw a stone in the river and it does not sink to the bottom without leaving ripples in its wake. I hope, at the very least, you and yours have been keeping safe.” Leandros and his family were good people… even though he was a noble of Sol City, he lacked the arrogance most from the island nation did. Him and his wife had always strived to make Cyran feel equal and included.
“Oh, but I must admit I’m surprised to see you here. I would have thought you’d be at home with your wife… what brings you to Eclipse City?”

"Oh no need to apologize!" He smiles, his body language relaxing now that the initial stupor has faded. For a moment, Leandros thinks to ask after Cyran's own well being given what happened during that fight.
As a warrior, death wasn't new to Leandros but when it came to sacrifices like that it was still a bit uncommon. It is not like he could admonish Cyran for it either, twice he and Ulrich launched themselves at the would-be god in an all or nothing bid to wound it. Cyran was alive and well, that's all that he needed to concern himself with.
"I could say the same for you and Del." He smiles softly. "I have only recently regained my freedome to travel again and I intend to use it~ Apogee has made sure I did not exhaust myself in the wake of that day and instead actually gave my injuries time to heal."
The scars have faded from the knight, though he could still remember the burns so vividly at times. He reaches to look over a necklace to give his mind something else to focus on for the moment.
"And it would be hard to shop for a gift for hearth's day if she were around...and she needs her own rest now these days."

Cyran’s smile waned at the unspoken question as to what he and Del were doing so far down south, rather than back home with the kids in the orphanage. No matter how many months had passed, clandestine letters exchanged with Oriole and Andromeda to pass onto the kids with whatever gifts Cyran and Del found in their travels… even that much communication was risky, with eyes on Shade’s Valley, waiting for him to make a move. It enraged him, that someone had brought the kids into this in such a dirty way, but he supposed he ought to have expected this.
But that was neither here nor there.
He breathed and centered himself, waving a small dismissive hand in the air. “The world has been too dangerous for us not to do our part. Not to mention the instability in Darkveil has had me considering relocating Shade’s Valley… so in part I’m scoping out safer areas for the kids.” His business in Eclipse City was a touch more personal, but he’d rather not talk about the business regarding the reinstatement of his noble title right now.
The sight of Leandros’s impossibly fond smile at the mention of his wife lightened Cyran’s mood somewhat. He relished the opportunity to hear the knight speak about the woman he loved; amidst the chaos, the world changing and shifting at its axis, Leandros had someone to hold him steady through it all. It was a luxury he once thought was only afforded to those whose hands were not stained with blood. And then, he met Del, who’d seen the crimson smeared across his palms and cradled his hand like it was something to be cherished anyways.
“I’m glad to hear Apogee made sure you got rest.” Cyran replied, a smile that could almost be described as playful on his expression. “Knowing you, if she’d not prescribed bedrest, you probably would have rolled out of bed the day after the attack and helping people in need with your body in a cast.”
Even the lighthearted jest could not erase the memory of the hurts. Cyran remembered all too well how close they’d been to losing it all. He remembered all too well the visions that had plagued him in his last moments of consciousness.
“Hearth day?” Cyran’s eyes widened as he twisted the ring on his finger. Had it truly been a year already since the last holiday? It was hard to believe that their first evening under the stars, dancing while they collect pieces of the sky for Fish, exchanging rings as a gift, had been that long ago. And so much had happened since then. Against all odds he’d found the love of his life, gotten engaged, started planning a life. “Wow, I can’t believe it’s already this time a year again… oh gods, Lee, I need to start shopping for Del!”
He looked up at the knight, dawning panic in his expression. Never mind that there were still months before Hearth Day actually arrived.

"Safety is not an easy thing to come by these days...if there is ever a need Bluescale Manor can house you and your family for a time. We have the space to offer, for the time it is just Apogee and I. Though that will be changing soon."
A casual admittance of something so monumental, but it was in Leandros fashion to sometimes fail to know the importance of some announcements. He seems to not realize what he had just shared as he exchanged a few solars for a set of earrings. The parcel of jewelry is tucked away in a small hip pouch.
The knight gives a gentle laugh at Cyran's joke, it's not too far from the truth. Honestly, it was a good thing he was rarely injured thanks to all his armor, but it also made it harder for him to know when to take breaks. Sure, he's not getting stabbed too often, but the danger is still real and the fights take their toll. Not to mention the emotional toll of what a fight can bring, especially something as large as the fight against Vulcadreus.
"You have time friend, there is no need to worry." Another small laugh comes form the chest as he puts a hand to Cyran's shoulder. "I've only started this early because if not I will easily forget myself in work and neglect purchasing something. This one set of earrings is only the beginning."

Due to the nature of Cyran’s old profession and his particular skillset, he was often privy to when others were feeding him lies. Even platitudes, while usually harmless, were things for the elven man to be wary of. Though he had no reason to be, Leandros was completely earnest and truthful that if they needed a place to stay, it was there. Cyran truly appreciated that about him. He nodded, a small smile on his lips. “Thank you. If we ever find we need lodgings, you’d be the first - wait.”
The implications of Leandros’s offhand comment finally hit him.
Cyran’s visible eye widened, excitement budding in his chest at the good news. “Are you… is she… expecting?”
And that good news was more than enough to dispel any lingering melancholy. Only once he received confirmation would Cyran smile, resting a hand on Leandros’s arm. “Oh, that’s so exciting! Is this your first?” He was fairly certain that Leandros was young, even by human standards, for being so accomplished, and Cyran could not remember him or Apogee ever mentioning children… “The first one is incredibly nerve-wracking, but, oh, I’m just so happy for you both. Wait-“ And then another thing occurred to him - “I need to get you both a baby shower gift.”
His demeanor, now, was a stark cry from how quiet and often distantly polite the ex-assassin could be, even around friends. But he’d always adored children, and he was so excited for Leandros.
Cyran picked up his solar pouch and juggled it in his hand for a moment, deep in thought. It was a little lighter than he remembered… which meant perhaps Fish or one of the other kids had nicked something from it, but he could make do with these funds for now. “Gosh, I know I’ve got enough time… I suppose I’m just a bit nervous. It’s our first Hearth Day together as, well, a pair… I want to make sure she knows how appreciated she is.” Especially after the hectic year they’d had.

"Just give us as much a heads as possible, but we won't ask if its sudden." He smiles and laughs. Leandros had some idea of Cyran's past given past conversations and small context clues. It didn't change the fact that Leandros still saw him as a friend.
The smile widens at Cyran's excitement, "She is and they will be our first. I can't say either of us were planning for the moment to be now, but I will not complain. Unlike you elves, I don't have centuries to wait." He laughs again and pats Cyran's shoulder, maybe a touch too hard given his excitement.
"You do not need to get us anything. Our children shall want for nothing, there's really no need to get a gift."
He watches the elf handle the solar pouch. It was touching to see how much he cared about providing for others and ensuring someone else is happy before himself. To see how much Cyran cared was evident and that alone spoke deeply to who Cyran was and Leandros' assessment of the man. Everyone has a past, not everyone has a good one, but he couldn't deny the fact that few worked as hard as Cyran at overcoming it all.
"Here's what I've learned in just a few years of marriage...no gift you choose will be wrong. Del seems far from the materialistic type, so long as you are using your heart first, then its impossible for you to go wrong. Gifts are nice of course, but they aren't the way to make someone feel appreciated. That takes your actions and I imagine you are handling that more than well enough."

“We shall do our best to ensure you have proper notification.” Cyran didn’t want to take advantage of their generosity… especially when their presence came with unseen strings attached. The bridges Cyran had burned in Darkveil, and the hunters after Del’s bounty as an enemy of the crown. He didn’t want to invite trouble to Leandros’s doorstep of course, but the reality was that trouble was wont to follow them no matter what kind of respite they sought.
It made things terribly difficult for keeping up social calls.
His excitement only widened when Leandros nodded in affirmative. Leandros clapped him back perhaps a touch too hard, but Cyran couldn’t even bring himself to care - he wrapped Leandros in a tight hug. “That’s wonderful news. I’m so overjoyed for you.”
As he pulled away, he laughed and waved a dismissive hand. “If my daughter taught me anything, it’s that even with seemingly unlimited resources, there will always be things you haven’t accounted for. Oh! If the two of you would like, I’m certain I’ve still got some new parenting books floating around if you’d like those.” And then, softer, “And of course we’d want to do something for you. You’ve never failed to be a wonderful friend and ally to us. Let us take the opportunity to celebrate this wonderful addition to your family. Besides,” He pointed out, “If you don’t think Del’s going to want to woodwork some custom pieces for you, you’re dead wrong. And her craftsmanship is finer than anything you could find in Sol City.”
Was it the love talking? Perhaps, but Cyran also knew that Del’s craftsmanship came with something everyone in Sol City lacked at times - heart and soul, and a keen attention to detail coupled with a love of what she did. He was certain that she’d want to construct things for Leandros’s child, same as she had for the little darlings in Shade’s Valley when she first met them.
What a lovely, selfless woman she was.
One that Cyran wished he could treat the way she deserved.
Leandros’s advice eased his nerves somewhat, but Cyran couldn’t deny still feeling a little anxious at the prospect. “You’re right… I appreciate the reassurance. I still worry at times, that even as genuine as I wish to be, it’s not enough. That I’m so tainted by the past I don’t know how to give her the care she deserves.”
He turned to stare at a nearby stall. The vendor sold scarves and silks. Given how warm Del was, he doubted she would need to make use of anything for keeping thermal regulation.
Cyran inhaled and turned back to Leandros, sheepish. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to make it so heavy… this is a day of celebration for your positive news. But I’d be lying if I said this hadn’t been on my mind since the events that transpired in Darkveil.”

"I should know well enough that trying to turn down the hospitality of another is impossible when I myself rarely acquiesce to such a request." He gently laughed as Cyran hugged him.
The knight grew similarly warm watching Cyran talk about Del's craftsmanship. It was nice to hear much more confidence from the elf when it came to their relationship and their lives together. Though quickly the much understandable sliver of doubt still remains somewhat. He can't blame the man, Cyran likely had at least one lifetime on Leandros who's to say what else he has been through in those other lifetimes.
He makes a thoughtful hum to collect his words before he speaks, "I can only imagine the things you have seen in your time, but I know the feeling...I put off having any sort of relationship when I was young...I planned to travel and adventure, I loathed the thought of dying in some battle and leaving behind a family...Apogee changed my feelings on that of course, returning home to her is now how I pull myself to do the things I do like fighting of Vulcadreus.....though coming home all of that guilt returned. What if I had died out there? I run that risk everyday I adventure, even moreso now with a child on the way...but what time has taught me is that fear will only hold you back. It is hard to every feel like you are fully worthy of the love of someone as incredible as my wife or yours, but...at some point you come to accept their love and those anxieties, though they might still linger, become smaller and smaller."
Leandros laughs a bit to himself, "Though perhaps it might take longer for you to get there than I, you have more time to think through things. It is still strange sometimes to remember just how much older Apogee is than I.:

Cyran’s words had evidently struck a chord with Leandros, as the young man fell silent while Cyran concluded his lamentations. His next words were spoken with the thought of someone who’d given careful consideration to them, before Cyran had even broached the subject.
He nodded in agreement, muttering almost to himself. “Better to love and lose then deprive yourself of ever knowing it at all.”
Though the difference in the span of their existences was astronomical, Cyran and Leandros weren’t so different in their circumstances. Of noble birth, carved into tools for the use of lofty ideals; Leandros, an immovable bastion, made to uphold Justice and peace, and Cyran, the dagger in the dark which enforced the inevitable death. With lives like those, it was difficult to imagine mortal influence would ever be a possibility.
Yet, here they were. Yet, the two had found love amidst it all.
“I am glad to hear that you have learned to reconcile such thoughts better than I.” Cyran’s voice was warm once more, despite the doubts he’d expressed earlier. It was very kind of Leandros to take the time to reassure him… though it did not dispel such thoughts entirely, it helped.
“It does take some time to get used to.” Cyran admitted. “If you could believe it, I made the mistake of assuming Del had proposed to me, and I was so startled by the fact that she might even consider me a romantic prospect that it took me months to even think to ask her on a date.” And months more, still, since their engagement, and Cyran still couldn’t bring himself to believe it was real some mornings. It had been a slow and gentle love to coax him out of his shell, and he still had much to learn. “That is the kind of life I’ve lived. That I might mistake her love for a marriage of convenience, or even politics. Love was so far removed from the equation that it could never apply to me.”
He turned his attention towards a nearby stall… this one dealt with leatherwork, and all manner of different accessories and defensive pieces. Oh - perhaps Del would enjoy a new toolpouch? The leather looked to be of fine make, and sturdy, to boot. She did always appreciate practical gifts. Oh, but he did want to spoil her, too… perhaps the toolpouch and something else. Yes, that would do.
He made the necessary transaction and tucked the purchase into his bag before looking back at Leandros.
“It’s why I’m very happy for you and Apogee. And very glad the two of you have found each other. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the span of my lifetime, it’s that centuries don’t make moments more insignificant. It makes each one matter more. So many of my kin live in the glory of the past when they should cherish all that brought them to the present. The life you have with Apogee… it’s beautiful. I’m sure she feels the same.”

"I mean this in the kindest of ways, but I would be most suspicious if you and Del had a planned and thought out proposal." Leandros beams and laughs gently when Cyran shares the story.
The knight keeps his focus as best he can on the silks and fabrics. Maybe he might look for some instruments as well. He keeps close to Cyran lest they have to shout their conversation across the market to each other.
"I know she worries that she will have to spend decades without me because of our heritage...I am hopeful what little of elvenblood is left in my veins helps...gives us just a bit more time together. My grandfather and mother were both half-elves, though it seems that has run thin by the time I was born." He smiles a touch. "Sorry, rambling once more....It is all to say that you are right....the length of time is meaningless if it was not worth being spent."
Leandros pauses a moment to make a purchase, a pan flute carved from different tubes of coral. He smiles and hands over the solars before motioning to Cyran to follow him and take a seat so they don't have to keep walking and talking and allow for a touch more focus.
"Do you and Del plan on having any sort of ceremony? I can again offer Blue Scale Manor...You would adore the work on the garden Apogee and I have done....carnations...perhaps some Alchemilla Mollis to accent things." And so Cyran got to learn Leandros' other secret passion beyond horses, floriography.
"One day I won't get distracted in conversation, alas...if you wish it would be entirely private for the two of you and whoever you wish to join if you so choose. I know the both of you are more private individuals, but...after the events of whatever happened with that Scern individual...the aftermath of Vulcadreus...the world needs reminders that there is still purpose and hope here. Weddings are a great way to show that....though." He smiles again, "That might just be my more upfront nature speaking."

“That is… fair.” Cyran admitted. Perhaps it was for the best that things had worked out the way they did. Even if both of them had come to their own conclusions, if Cyran hadn’t believed Del took the first step, neither of them would have been willing to. Both believing themselves too damaged to consider love an option. At least the proposal, no matter how accidental, had given Cyran the comfort to consider that Del could possibly consider him as someone worth loving. “It all worked out in the end, which I am grateful for.” He twisted the ring on his finger, an idle, comforting gesture.
He was surprised to learn that Leandros had elven blood in him; whether that expanded his lifetime or not, it didn’t matter. Leandros was the kind of person to live with no regrets, which was much more important than any magic that a longer lifetime might afford. He followed the knight to take a seat after he procured a finely-crafted flute. The two settled down in a quieted area, a bit separated from the hustle and bustle of the streets, allowing them a little bit more silence.
His eyes widened as Leandros offered their home, their help, for any kind of ceremony they might throw.
It was… complicated.
He paused, trying to choose his words carefully, before shrugging. “We’re not quite sure. We’ve discussed possible options, but nothing especially concrete. Especially considering the limbo of travel we’ve found ourselves in. It will be some time before we can actually consider what we might do for a wedding.”
And the idea of having a large celebration was not one he was particularly fond of.
He wrinkled his nose, twisting his ring once more. “I have been… married once before. Arranged. The affair was quite public, and not an especially pleasant experience. A show for others. I must admit I’m loathe to turn our union into a show once more, no matter how many people it might inspire.” He offered Leandros a sheepish smile. “Regardless of how big or small the venue is, I’d wager we’ll have our inner circle there. Good friends are few and far in between these days, and the ones we do have mean the world. Of course we’d want you and Apogee there. I know next to nothing about flowers, so any advice you have would be appreciated.”
Though considerably more reserved, Cyran was excited for the wedding, too. How could he not be, when it meant spending an entire day celebrating the love of his life?

"Whether it be five or five hundred you wish to bring, we will make space if you would like." He gently smiles towards the man beside him as they take their moment of respite.
"There is a difference between a wedding with someone you love and someone with which you've been paired. I think I've told I was engaged before Apogee...something my mother arranged. A fine young woman to be sure, beautiful, of a social station my mother could exploit, what more could I want?" Leandros lets out a little laugh from his chest. "The courtship was a fine process, but it was nothing like what I felt from the moment I saw Apogee. The effortless way she made my heart skip even as I danced with her like a bear walking upright."
For all intents and purposes, she would've been right to never see him again and yet...here they were. Leandros wasn't going to complain about that, though she might complain his dancing acument has not grown over the last few years. Footwork with fighting makes sense, dancing, not so much.
"You will see....and have already seen, that the difference between a wedding for show and a wedding for love is as wide as any ocean in Charon. Del is a steadfast woman, an even hand among the chaos of everything. A safe port with which to dock your heart no matter the storm, right? Flowers have their own meanings and language, but for you both I think I would start with something that connects the both of you."
Leandros lets that thought linger a moment before he perks up as another idea flashes behind those cerulean eyes.
"I should ask this now before I get carried away. How would you and Del feel about horses as a wedding gift? Usually that is what our family gives, but our family is often dealing with other nobles who just want something pretty for their pasture. We breed mostly warhorses, but there are some draft and riding horses depending on your preference."
