Javal grins as he hears the other man’s reaction to his words about loss, “I am right friend at least in my experience, it takes a strong person to recover from such a truly tragic event of life, and for that, I respect you greatly”.
He noticed the other man looking down and got worried that he’d overstepped his place, “Your mother sounds like she was an incredibly wise and wonderful woman, my friend. Paying your respects comes to us in different ways my friend after all we are all so very different. Why do you live for the sake of living? You go through the motions, is that correct? I can’t explain what she meant after all you were the one to know her not I. I’m sorry she’s gone but I offer what little advice I can offer. We are all an experience, the cumulative effort of everything around us. A piece of the people we love will always be there even if they’re gone. To give you an example, my father is gone, I don’t even know exactly where he is but I carry him with me in my heart. The lessons, the time he spent with me, the love he gave me and my siblings that’s with me. The same thing to you, your friend who you’re distant from, she’s with you in spirit always because you remember each other that experience of knowing and being friends is still with you. Also the case for your mother, she’s right here with you my friend although gone in her mortal form, she’s right in your heart. As long as you remember her and cherish those memories together then I’m sure she’s happy and proud”.
“Your teacher sounds like a tough man to please my friend, what was your training like? You’re correct in that regard my friend the world is indeed smaller than I thought. Nowadays my mother alongside my siblings is running it since our dad went missing when my youngest brother was still a baby”.

He felt undeserving of this man’s respect. Where the man saw strength all Quincy could see was wasted potential and the inability to move on. What was it this man could see that Quincy could not? In truth it was as painful as it was baffling. Then for a moment his words sounded familiar. This feeling felt like deja vu. He’d done this song and dance once before but the last person who put him in this same twist of emotions was his mother. “I’ve been told something similar to that before. Someone else spoke of my…strength in a similar way I mean. So maybe it’s time I stopped hatefully denying these claims and simply listened.” His voice was low but they carried a pensive tone.
There were no more words for him to muster. He simply listened to every letter in each word that was spoken by his new friend. Words that he felt it was time he listened too. The fell-bloods words, like a medicine, were a bitter truth on his soul yet came with a sweet ephemeral after taste. That medicine was something he had been avoiding for far too long. “Thank you, my friend. Tell me about your father. What was he like?” His voice picked up a bit. He wouldn’t say that he was right, there was no need.
“Training was hard, I slept with a rod in my hands, my hands were blistered and raw. I trained until my spear was a part of me. An extension of my very being. Each thrust was done with care and was deliberate. All the sleep I lost and times I tasted that familiar irony taste of defeat it had better have been. How about your training?”

The large smile on Javal’s face stayed firm as he kept looking into the man’s eyes, giving him a look of confidence and understanding.
“Well, whoever told you this before must be wise and kind and able to see the truth before them. Listen to their words and listen to mine. You strongly believe that other people see it and so must you. Hating and being negative doesn’t make you a stronger friend, listening and understanding are what make you strong. Of course friends, sometimes we just need the truth to be rammed through our skulls. Like when my retainer tells me not to eat sandwiches from strangers”, he chuckles about the last part.
“That training sounds brutal but effective by your appearance alone I’m sure that the training paid off at least. My training was certainly the same from the age of eight. I was trained by Ronrik Emeraldcutter, one of the strongest swordsmen ever. Even if he’s blind and very short his strength is ever present even in his old age. I trained alongside fourteen other students of his and we were made to practice every single day. He made sure to break it into us that a sword isn't a sword but an extension of your will, the symbol of your heart’s justice. It was very tough to get through, training was rigorous, especially that one time he made us hike Dragon’s Spine with a backpack that weighed the same as us. However, it was worth it and I am a lot stronger because of it. He even blessed me with my sword, Theseus”, he says, taking out his sheathed blade from his belt.
“As for my father, he was a great man, a normal human adventurer who worked as a mercenary for a while. That was until he met my mother after getting hired by my grandfather to act as her bodyguard. My grandfather used to be an ashen father who followed Vulcadreus and is a pretty big successful businessman now so I guess I can understand why he needed some security at the time. My father then fell in love with my mother and for some reason, my grandfather got mad at them they escaped his wrath and made their home in Thorock. I’m the only one of my siblings to remember my father well. He left home one day when I was eight years old. He was a strong man who instilled a sense of justice in me, always telling me to protect everyone with all my heart. Everyone in town liked and respected him. He was kind and caring to everyone who showed up and needed food and shelter. He was a really good cook able to whip up delicious food that nothing else could compare to. But one day out of the blue I remember him going to my room kissing me and my siblings and walking away in his armor. I never saw him again whenever I asked my mother about it. She says that he went away on some sort of emergency request for help. Although I don’t know what happened to him or where he is right now I’m confident he’s still alive out there somewhere. I hope to find him someday I haven’t had the chance to look for him considering I’ve had to go on my adventures and run a business”.

A light chuckle escaped his lips in response. “I suppose so. If you can see the same as those you call wise you must be wise yourself, friend.” To say Quincy felt uncomfortable with the idea of seeing himself as strong was a bit of an understatement. If enough people said it, maybe where there was smoke there really was fire. There had to be some validity to those words otherwise why would others say it? This man he only met today is a prime example. It was time for him to accept the truth that he was indeed strong.
“The Training did more than pay off. There are moments I can’t help but find myself reaching for a spear that isn’t there, seeing the exact point to strike something, feeling my muscles tense in response to even the slightest stimuli. To be honest I don’t feel…whole without a spear these days. As if I gave up so much more than just a weapon.” He paused for a moment and his right arm tensed up, for a moment he could feel the worn grip in hand, and the ribbon tied on the spears shaft flapping gently in the breeze. “Fourteen others you say? The competition must have been fierce. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of you tried to race up the Spine. Would you say having so many other fellow students made you stronger? And that blade you got from your master? Did he forge it himself?”
Quincy’s gaze never left the man as he spoke of his father. As he finished telling his tale a look that could only be described as a warm hand on one’s shoulder came across his face. “Your father sounds like a good man, your grandfather…sounds like he could use a bit of relaxation in his life. I hope you do find him…if you’d like if you give me a name and something solid to go off of I can always keep an eye out. I don’t have nearly as important of responsibilities as you and find myself able to travel as freely as one can with a small budget.”

“Thank you. I just try to listen to smart people and speak sincerely from my heart, my friend", Javal, grins.
He knew he wasn’t the smartest person around considering how many mistakes and misunderstandings he caused but when it came to speaking with others truly and honestly he was the smartest. He continued brimming with excitement and was happy to keep talking about combat and fighting. Javal found it much more interesting and easier to keep up with than the boring albeit important research into the gods.
“It sure looks like it paid off friend based on your appearance and I get that feeling. I always feel like I’m holding a blade even if I don't have any steel in my hands. I feel excited and energetic when even thinking about combat so many techniques and moves you can do. Sometimes I just like to sit still and think about all the powerful combinations I can do in a fight. It’s so much fun when it’s just you, your opponent, and your weapon. There’s nothing else like it in the world; it's exhilarating and real. Oh but why did you give up on your spear? Did you lose it? If that’s the case then I’m more than happy to get you another one my friend”, Javal was a man who didn’t care about money often spending solars on his friends rather than himself. He was simple and didn’t need much just food and he was fine so when he mentioned buying Quincy a new spear he was sincere.
He smiled as he spoke about his years of training, “Yes fourteen and it sure was especially considering I was the youngest at the time. They all had their own unique and strong personalities so training sometimes was intense and rough. One of my fellow students almost tripped and fell on his way up because he was racing against all of us. It made me stronger I would say considering I was surrounded by some really powerful people. I consider them all sworn brothers and even if we don’t talk very often I like to think they’re all doing well”.
He shows Quincy his blade, the blue runes on the side of it glowing a faint blue, “He didn’t forget it, no, this blade is old. Older than you and most people. My master, being a powerful hero himself, was descended from a family that kept relics and belongings of famous heroes safe because they were known for their loyalty. He gave all of them to his students stating it was better for the new generation of heroes to have them in hand instead of collecting dust in some room. My blade’s name is Theseus. It has the power of the sea within it. A funny story is that I fought the original owner of this blade. He was a zombie and was controlled by this necromancer guy but now his essence and spirit are inside of it and awakened its potential”.
He looked at Quincy in the eyes and bowed slightly, “Thank you for your kind words friend. I appreciate it and agree. My father’s name is Leoniadas Zarrias or if he’s out there traveling somewhere he also goes by Leo. My father always wore a red bandana to tie his hair up if that’s anything to go by. I appreciate you my friend for doing this and let me know if you even hear the smallest rumor about him".

The man before him was the personification of joviality. So much so in fact as he spoke there was a warmth radiated off of him, especially as the conversation shifted to combat. The way the man spoke of the sword was like the runs that beamed off the sun. In a way listening to him speak was bittersweet. “Visualization is one of the more under-appreciated forms of training. How can you strike true when you can't see it in your mind's eye? From time to time I find myself thinking how I would handle the small scraps I happen to witness if they were to happen to me.” As Javal asked about his spear Quincy could only give a warm smile and raise a hand in polite protest. “The loss of my spear is a mistake of my own. That I will rectify with my own two hands. I do appreciate your offer, and I don't turn it down lightly.”
Quincy took the blade in hand, and with the utmost respect and care inspected the blade. Though he didn't know much about swords he'd been in the presence of masterworks enough to understand what he held in his hands was more than just any old blade. “It sounds like you gained far more than just swordsmanship from your training. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little envious. And this blade! Even my untrained eye can tell this is the stuff legends are made of. A zombie you say? What roads did you follow to cross paths with a necromancer?”
As the fellblood finished bowing Quincy placed a hand on his shoulder giving it a firm squeeze as he nodded. “I will try my best to look out for your father. I won't make any promises I can't keep. False hope is one of life's greatest evils. After what you've done for me today I only wish I could do more for you.”

“Right?”, the man said excitedly, “People think that fighting is just all with your fists and stuff and that most warriors are just meatheads nowadays. However that’s just not true. I think visualization is the most important thing we do. My master had me sit in our training room for hours and hours training in my mind to go over all possibilities in a fight”.
He then throws his hands up as Quincy mentioned thinking about how he’d react in scraps if they happened to him, “SAME, I’m always thinking about if I were to fight people and what would happen as a result”.
Javal then placed his hand that was about to reach into his pocket to get solars back into its place.
He chuckles, “Alright my friend I respect that greatly and hope you gain it soon. If you need anything just let me know I’m always happy to help my friends out whenever I can”.
The fellblood can’t help but be proud as Quincy looks over his blade, “Thank you my friend and yes I did not lie a real true zombified hero. I was following the bounty of this necromancer fellow and he did not go down without a fight I tell you. He had like 10 or so undead abominations that were a real challenge to get through”.
“Many thanks Quincy Demir I truly shall not forget the sentiment it means a lot to me. Don’t worry my friend, you have done more than enough. Your company has been much more enjoyable than reading some books. As for my father I know he’s out there somewhere just something in my heart tells me so”.

“People don't understand the nuances. The strategy and tactics you can use in a skirmish. The amount of physical training it takes to make your thrust so second nature so you can leave your mind unfettered. The last thing you want to think about with a sword pointing at you is your form. Especially when you can be using those mental powers to analyze your opponent or your surroundings.” Quincy chuckled a bit. This was a discussion he hadn't had in quite some time. If you had asked him this morning if he thought he'd be having this conversation he'd have laughed and left without comment.
When the fellblood agreed with him a warmth filled his gut. A kindred spirit. To explain this to most he might get awkward or confused looks, but someone like Javal he was met with only understanding.
“Trust me your offer is greatly appreciated. Now this necromancer. I highly doubt they would go down so easily. Now when you say abominations you mean something far worse than just reanimated corpses right?” The idea of taking on such an opponent was a bit unsettling to Quincy. The amount of strength in effort he'd put into his body and craft was with the mind that he'd only be facing other warriors, he'd forgotten to take into consideration the very real possibility of facing a magic user.
“There is no need to thank me, Friend. Although I may not find him, I do mean it when I say I will keep an eye out and an ear to the ground as I travel. My God may be uncaring, but I assure you I am not. Your company was more of a medicine I had no intention of taking, but I am glad that I did. Thank you.” Quincy returned the blade to the fellblood and began returning his books to their proper shelves.
“As serendipitous as this was, I think my stomach might have other plans for me. Can I ask a favor of you?”

“That’s so true it takes a lot of mental strength and technique to be able to fight against others. After all, being a fighter and warrior is a lot different than just being able to fight. I think both muscle and the mind are necessary to be a good fighter. If you have just one you’re not gonna be able to fight at your maximum potential”, the fellblood said cheerily. It was fun to have this type of conversation, typically he didn’t speak much about fighting considering he didn’t have anyone to talk to about it. With Quincy though he found a kindred spirit truly a powerful warrior with a heart of gold that understood what fighting meant.
“Oh definitely there were like 12 of them, there was this death dragon, undead giant, lich, werewolf, regenerating skeleton”, he continues to list them off, “I tell you if I didn’t have this really strong half-orc warrior at my side I’d be a goner. It was honestly less of a pure power display and more stamina. Each monster had some sort of strange gimmick to overcome and dismantle. Others were easier and required great strength but in the end, we managed to bring the necromancer down and turn him into the authorities”.
His eyes perk up with excitement as his new friend speaks up and asks him for a favor, “Of course simply name this favor and I’d be happy to help in whatever way I can”.
