Lord Nevaar and Young Lord Sarne had been working on the village for a few days now working with the village elders on reconstruction. Now a new threat was coming a group of Gnolls, savage, violent hyena-type creatures. The Gnolls were forming a War Party and raiding the weak villages in the area. The rumors had been spreading about them and it was starting to concern Sarne. He was not going to let this village he had been rebuilding get destroyed again. The people had been through enough. He had positioned Screech up in a hill and rock outcropping Screech would let the village know if something got too close. The day before Sane sent his retainers out to take a look around the area. When they returned Nordic report was not a good one. They were a day away and coming down the road to the village. Sarne was not going to try to handle this on his own. Sarne walked to the edge of the village where Lord Nevaar was standing looking in that direction. Turning to Lord Nevaar Sarne's face focused and his demeanor deturmed. "Have you heard or know a group of Gnolls a War Party is on its way? I have a report it is a day away. I plan to defend the village I am not letting my work get destroyed." Sarne started to explain. "I would like to request your help in the defense of the village. what do you say Lord Nevaar," asked Sarne with confidence. Sarne hoped the answer would be yes from Lord Nevaar.

As Sarne comes over to him, for a moment there is this look of defeat, as if the constant interruptions of life and death just keep pilling up.
"Very well, guess I don't have much choice in the matter, where is it they are coming from and what are their numbers?" His demeanour doesn't reflect worry or fear, but there is a clear look of disgust in his eyes at the though of having to fight a war party of Gnolls.
"Jonathan!" He yells. "Go and warn the villagers, and when everyone is safely inside one of the buildings you will be responsible of keeping anyone of the attackers that get past the two of us, as we prepare for the assault make sure that their windows are boarded up, and that they feel reassured about their safety. But we will not take further risk, are we clear?" The paladin just nods and walks off expressionless.
"Now, I suggest you send two of your agents that were specialized in stealth to distract and slow down the approach force to give us as much time as possible. I hope they are quick runners or good riders."

Sarne gave a nod to Nevaar. Sarne turned and looked over to an area and gave a quick set of whistles and hand his hand and a few hand signals. Nordic and Vamir drop what they were doing to help in the village and disappear over the hill. Naesala walks up "My Lord, Lord Nevaar," she says with a nod to them. Then turned to Sarne "Captain your orders?" Naesala asked Sarne.
Sarne looked around. "Help Ser Jonathan in defense and protection of the people. Reinforce what you can on the buildings" instructed Sarne. Naesala gave a slight bow and walked off to her tasks.
Sarne turned to Nevaar. "Think you can get some of your helpers to help out with some fortifications? I think we could build abatis Defenses we put them staggered to slow their approach to the Village. Just over the hill so the Gnolls can not see the Village we can draw them in there and restick their numbers. I also suggest we make the Abatis on an X pattern so we can use both sides if needed. We could use any of the leftover wood to make them." suggested Sarne looking around at the debris lying around. Sarne was glad he was not alone and Nevaar was there as well together Sarne was positive this will turn out to there beneficent.
Picking up some rope and looking it over. "I think we have enough to make some Abatis Defenses," said Sarne looking at the rope. "Lord Nevaar, what do you think?" asked Sarne looking at the hill.

"Agreed, I will make sure that the undead dig the ground in preparation. They are however not craftsmen so someone will have to sharpen the wood to be effective." He closes his eyes for a few moments as he gives direction to the undead in the area to dig along the side of the village where the Scouts had run off to.
With no pause, the undead simply drop what they were doing and walks over to begin the task as requested. Some use shovels that they have available, but most of them start digging with their hands. As they don't tire, the work is surprisingly quick.
Looking around the outside of the rest of the village, Aledüne makes quick stock of their defences. The village was built along one of the many rivers in the area, and so had a natural fortification west. The force was coming from the north, where the defences were currently being constructed, but that left their east flank open to attack. They didn't have the forces needed to defend all direction, and the undead Aledüne had created where useless in a proper fight. At best they could be used to slow the enemy advance with but a few moments.
"I worry about our east flank. I don't think we have enough manpower to construct defences for two directions at once. We might have to request reinforcements from a nearby town, but that would take hours given how sparse this land is populated. Any thoughts?"

Sarne looked around and then back to Nevaar They were about to get into a battle Sarne saw no need for titles to be between Lord Sarne and Lord Nevaar. "I agree Nevaar they probably come from one direction from what I have been told they have only met light resistance. So I think they may be overconfident," says Sane speaking with assurance. Sane was glad to have Nevaar this would be a fight to remember thought Sarne.
He watches the undead start to work. He was amazed by how efficient they were. A bit slow but that was ok in Sarne's mind. Because they don't need brakes. "I will start on the sharping of the shafts for the abatis Defenses," Sarne said as he walked over to where the wood was piled. Two men came out with spears and hide shields. Villagers of stocky build probably warriors of some sort.
Sarne smiled "I thought we said take shelter in the huts?" asked Sarne in a commanding tone. Sarne was now in his commander mode and he did not have time to play babysit with people. The Two smiled "We were ordered to help by are village elders." they explained.
Sarne shook his head and sighed. "OK, then start to take the wood shafts and put them over there we are going to build some abatis for defense." instructed Sarne. "your names what are they?" asked Sarne. The bigger of the two says "Forman, My Lord." The other answers "Jorn, My Lord" says the man with a smile.
Looking at Nevaar "These two men are joining us it is Their elder's wishes." explained Sarne yelling over to Nevaar with a slight smile and shaking his head in disbelief.

Sarne's words didn't quite comfort his worry. He was still unsure about their flank being open but gave it no more thought. If it came to it they would deal with it. Sometimes he hated himself for not being more selfish, it would have been so much easier to leave these people to die. But he aimed to make people indebted to him, and what better way? Still, he didn't see himself as one who left an innocent man to die, and especially not an entire village.
"Very well, have the villagers who are willing to help prepare the defences and spears. They will keep to the backline and not engage too closely with the enemy. I trust you to handle them while I coordinate the dead." He gives a look of respect to Jorn and Forman before walking off towards the undead digging their ditches. Jonathan had so far culled all the villagers into the inn that was only half finished, but it had sturdy walls and thick doors. Once inside he instructs those inside to nail the windows and doors shut as he takes up position outside the house, making sure all entrances were secure. For once he seemed in his element, happy almost to be of use.
Aledüne started to take precise control of the large group of undead, and with it they became even more effective. Not growing tired of fearful they kept up a steady job until a long, deep ditch had been dug along the northside of the town. The east was however still open should the attackers route to attack from a different direction.

Sarne and his followers start to set up Abatis Defenses around the village and at the entrance restricting anyone from just rushing in on the village. Sarne got others from the Village two warriors to help in the defense of the village's two archers. Kell and Brig are two muscular, good-sized men, and stout hunters in their own right. Armed with bows two quivers of arrows their fighting knives and a big smile. Sarne did spend some time out near the village setting some traps and trip lines. [1] They were almost invisible the trip lines were signals that would flash and a puff of smoke if they were tripped. The other traps were spiked foot pits, some explosive traps, and a mix of stuff that would burn the Gnolls if they set them off. The abatis field fortification consists of an obstacle formed with the branches of trees laid in a row, with the sharpened tops directed outwards, towards the enemy. The trees are usually interlaced or tied with strong rope or leather twine. There were entanglements and other obstacles used with abatis like trenches around the village. Sarne knew they had to be ready by nightfall that's when the favored time for Gnolls to attack.
