Quest Name: Wacky Races 2 Participants: Two or more Location: King's Valley Post Requirements: 5 posts per person, 200 words per post Reward: +1 Renown Description: One of the valley's favorite pastimes is racing, specifically on horseback, but any animal will do as long as it is exciting. If you want to make a name for yourself in the plains, winning a race is the best way to do that, but it is one of the hardest things to do, locals do not play fair. The quest is simple, get into a race with either a mount or a land vehicle. You don't have to win, but try your hardest, and keep an eye out, if anything goes in these races. (If you do not own a mount, a donkey will be provided for you.)
Sarne walking through the small town and by a large stable with a lot of different things in it. A festivity was going one and some race that Sung was checking it out. A man walks up to Sarne the man seems to be a nobleman from the King's Valley he had a few servants with him. "I am a local Lord in this Valley I am Lord Ellar Faqen and you look like a strong man and a knight I have an offer for you If you will hear me out. And the person behind you. Eira is your name? Or that's what my servants say," explained Lord Faqen with a plightful smile. Sane gave a glance behind him. Eira Sarne thought never heard the name before. "Go on Lord Faqen I will hear you out," replied Sarne who did not seem impressed by the Lord Faqen. Making a happy smile Lord Faqen's eyes lit up. "I have some animals I would like to race and some of my riders got injured lately. I will sponsor you in the race you see it would help me out and get you some reputation around here if you when or at least race. It that easy." explined Lord Faqen. "So will you help me?" the Lord Faqen asked.

Eira paused hearing her name and looked the man and guards over suspiciously. She however nodded in agreement. She wasn’t actually overly interested however her ‘father’ did want her to enter or assist a lord if possible in order for the possibility of some talks and deals made later between the two. So she gave a small grin and nodded “of course lord” she replied glancing to the other that was talked to. From his outfit she knew he was noble at least but if he was some goody two shoes type this would be quite annoying. She hated those types of people. She knew from her own experience they would all leave you if they got the chance at least she thought so. With that she waited to hear what more was said and if the other would also seem to help or not. Either way she didn’t plan on getting to know or interacting with the other much if at all. All that mattered now was doing her task at hand and win if possible.
“What do you have to ride?” She questioned raising a brow and crossing her arms as she awaited a reply. Surely he had some interesting options

Before he sarne answered Sarne turned to see the girl. Rather short female at a height of just 5 feet wearing a dark red sleeveless top. Her boots and regular adventuring pants. Her skin was a cool pale blue, her white hair was cut short and the freckles on her face. Her eyes are a hot pink type color and she has hooped earrings in both ears. Sarne looked back at the man with some skepticism. "Injured lately... right..." answered Sarne. His tone showed he did not trust this lord. Sarne shook his head looking at the ground. "OK, I will help you out but if there is anything shady going on I will find you later, Lord Faqen," warned Sarne with a grin. "Let's see what you got for us Lord Faqen." inquired Sarne motioning for the lord to go first. They walk over to a more privet stable. There were a lot of things in there this Lord had quite a lot of normal and exotic animals. all mounts with riding equipment Horses of all types. Felines, Canines, Birds, and even an Adult Drake. The Lord smiled "Pick one probably one that won't eat you. "The Drake is off-limits. Stay away from that one." the Lord instructed.
"Eira is your name" asked Sarne in a plight tone.

Eira listened to the two lords chat as she looked around silently observing everything around her. She then followed along after the others to where the creatures were kept. Looking them over she wondered which would be best. She however paused hearing sarne speak her name. She raised a brow and looked up at him. “It is yes. And you are sarne from my understanding” she replied to the other looking him over. She wondered why this lord sarne character asked. She didn’t see much reason to talk with each other and chit chat when it wasn’t needed for their current objective but here they were. She supposed if it continued too long or got too personal she could always just end the conversation. Tired meant nothing to her. She only cared about what her ‘father’ cared about and wanted, the only one who didn’t see her as a jinx or omen, the only one who didn’t abandon her like everyone else. She blinked those thoughts away soon after and walked to a horse that seemed to keep its distance from the others and tilted her head examining it. She felt a bit sorry for it being alone. She knew what that was like

Glancing back at Eira Sarne looked at the horse she was. It looked to be a good one with lots of muscle but shy but that would not matter in a race. "Yes, Eira, you are correct about my name," replied Sarne with a grin. Turning back to Lord Faqen Sarne stopped and saw a beautiful horse a chestnut brown one. Standing some 5 and a half feet With a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, the desert horse is one of the most easily recognizable horse breeds in the world. Thought Sarne looking at the horse.
Finely chiseled bone structure, concave profile, arched neck, comparatively level croup, high-carried tail, he would be fast very fast, and have good endurance as well. Desert horse is noted for a greater density of bone than other breeds, short cannons, sound feet, and a broad, short back, all of which give the breed physical strength comparable to many taller animals.
Giving a smile "I will take that horse there chestnut brown one." requested Sarne. now looking at Lord Faqen.
Lord Faqen smiled "Good choice I will have him saddled up and you can give him a ride to make sure, " stated Lord Faqen. with a glint in his eye.
Lord Faqen turned to Eira "Do you have something in mind Little lady?" he asked looking in her same direction "Ah. I see she is a shy horse but a good one has lots of spirit though sure you can handle her?" asked Lord Faqen.

Eira grimaced momentarily at being called 'little lady' but soon nodded "I can handle her." she replied walking towards the horse, her movements were gentle and careful, her eyes never leaving the horse before she slowly and gently reached out and pet its snout "there we are." the smallest hint of a smile crept upon her lips as she looked the horse over. It seemed quite gentle behind its stand-offish nature and such. She knew what it was like to be outcast an be alone and it seemed this horse did as well. After a few moments she turned to look at the lord "I will be using this one" she replied simply hardly sparing the man a glance after as she turned back to the horse. Perhaps she would look into buying the creature once the races completed it and if her 'father' would allow it.She never really asked for much after all so maybe there was a chance it could happen. She however tried not to get her hopes up too much. she learned to never really get her hopes up on most things. it was easier that way. It was also easier to be practically alone besides her father

Lord Faqen yelled out some orders and a stable hands came and got the horses ready. The stable hands do let Sarne and Eira help get the horses ready. it did not take long and it was not hard to see that the animals here are well taken care of.
Sarne mounts his horse and starts to ride around the Corral as the two start to work together. There was a Terror Bird a large bird that vaguely resembles a pterasaur. Its snout is short and flat, with jagged teeth that jut from its crooked beak. Its wingspan is massive with a strong, leathery membrane which gives it its capability to fly. Strange, jagged growths and spikes jut from this creature's body. Seems not to be too happy with Sarne as it screeched at him.
Sarne looked at it and smiled "Screech, we will go out later. behave yourself or no treat." Yelled Sarne at the bird. He eyes him making some other noise looking still displeased with Sarne. He gave a sigh looking at Lord Faqen. "can you give Screech an extra leg of lamb? I will pay for it," requested Sarne.
Then turned to Eira. Sarne smiled "You ready yet to go out and see how well we will do maybe a test run?" asked Sarne.

Eira pat the horse as it was getting ready and once done she grabbed the reigns and hoisted herself on easily mounting the horse with an air of grace about her as she did so. Her fuchsia eyes watched the noble trot around with his horse in front of the jealous creature seemingly named screech. She raised a brow wondering why this man was so talkative especially to her when she gave no signs of interest in conversing but said nothing on the matter. She however decided to reply to his question ignoring his smile. Why was he smiling at her at all? It confused her, perhaps he was daft or perhaps it was some trick. "I suppose so" she nodded and trotted her horse to the front of the stable and out into the fresh air. She winced a little at the bright lights around her, not overly fond of it in all honesty and not used to it after all the years in the darkness. It felt unwelcome and she felt exposed in such light but she did her best to ignore those feelings as she stopped the horse once outside. Eira then turned to loo bac towards Sarne

Coming out of the stables Sarne follows Eira. Sarne was trying to lighten the mood a bit. Eira seemed not to be interested in that. Sarne guessed she probably is more reserved or not too social. Her short answer to his question said a lot. Sarne would never press anyone in conversation or make any unwanted advances. Maybe his smile was too much Sarne's thinking. He would try to be more careful with Eira.
Riding up beside Eira. Sarne showed now more of a persona of concentration. Several other riders come by one riding a large wolf, another on a large bird. Both armed with long spears and the crest of a Lord from a nearby town. The riders look over to Sarne and Eira and just roll their eyes at them and keep on riding. Sarne looks and just shakes his head in dissatisfaction.
Sarne sighed. "I have a feeling I know why he needs racers now." Comments Sarne looking towards the other riders. Gesturing with his head to them. "I would predict that we are in for a ruff ride Eira," Sarne says with a little concern in his tone. "I guess we don't have more time looks like everyone is heading to the starting place of the race. If you are ready we should go," said Sarne starting to go toward the gathering people.

Eira examined the others. It was a response she was used to so she didnt are too much. Instead she nodded and trotted her horse towards the starting line. If it would be rough then so be it. As long as she was noticed and did well enough to get her 'father' better standing with this idiotic lord that was all that mattered.
Then they could be safe and independent from the rest of the world. She could be more than an omen or a jinx finally and maybe 'they' would leave her alone, the ghosts that haunted her dreaming and waking hours, taunting her and reminding her of her flaws and what she had done.
Her hands tightened on the reigns as she took a shaky breath and steadied her resolve sparing a small glance towards Sarne regarding the strange man and his apparent kindness towards strangers. It had to be some sort of act but as long as they got the job done then who cared? With that she turned her gaze forward again giving the horse a small pat as she awaited the start of the race, determined to prove herself. She refuse to let anyone get in the way

With every the racers lining up on the line, a man stepped out onto the platform and smiled He raised his hand into the air, and the crowd hushed. "Welcome, this is a festive race that we have been waiting for," he stated in a loud voice. Lady, Shalana Ololynn, has the honor of starting the race." she stepped out holding a standard on a staff. She stepped to the edge of the platform.
The other racers get excited and the animals as well. There was something to be known. All the other racers were armed and wore some type of armor. They showed their battle scars some fresher than others. it did not take any real intelligence to tell this was no normal race.
In this race, there was all sorts of beast. Horses some with armor, giant cats, giant ground birds, giant wolves, and foxes all snapping and growling. Some of the riders look over to Sarne and Eira with easy prey in their eyes.
Noble women stood with their guards on either side of her. She had a standard she raised into the air. A Lord walked out onto the platform. "Welcome! Racers to the contest of the planes. My speed and luck be with you all! Let not have anyone die this time." The man yelled. The crowd laughed at what the noble said.
Sarne knew things were not going to be easy if he even made it to the finish line. They had been told when the Princess dropped the standard the race began.
Everyone ready themselves as the Princess stepped to the edge of the platform. She raised the standard a little higher as all including the animals got restless. She dropped the standard holding it out in front of her. and all the animals and riders took off at a sprint.
Sarne let some go in front of him allowing him to have some space to maneuver. Sarne figured there would be no cheating just yet until they could not see the crowds anymore. Then it would begin to get ruff.
They were halfway threw the race when things started to get bad Sarne turned back for a second to look where Eira had gone and that was his first mistake as he heard yelling and saw somebody cast an electric spell. Sarne cracked his reins for his horse to go faster and thankfully because of that, Sarne was able to miss the blast radius of the lightning energy.

Eira trotted until they reached the race line before halting her horse glancing around at the others a bit annoyed by the looks on others faces. If they though she was some easy target they were sorely mistaken. She soon smirked at the idea of the fools trying to harm her.
Needless to say when the race started she sped ahead and when they were out of sight she saw the fighting begin. She ducked, dodged and weaved through quite a bit of things and danger before knocking a few people away who tried to attack her. One man even had part of his arm cracked and disintegrated when he tried to push her. She was towards the front for the race for some reason glancing to check on sarne here or there, wait why did she care? She ignored such thoughts and raced ahead towards the finish.
Eira stopped her horse once she crossed the finish line a bit surprised at being first. She however pat her horse and glanced around through the crowd seeing her 'father'in the audience causing her to be rather surprised and amazed. She then smiled seeing him clapping with a small smile of his own. She was happy to make him proud

Sarne had moved behind Eira and wondered if he should or should not even care if she won the race. It was a race and seemed to be everyone for themselves. Sarne sighed his grandfather's teaching flashed through his memory. Showing valor, chivalry, honesty, and compassion they are the Sequoia traits. He got a sly grin knowing what his grandfather would have thought of Sarne.
Sarne drew his sword as a spear men road up on him to thrust the spear into him. As he got close Sarne stopped the horse. the Spear men went by missing Sarne. countering with a sword swing. Cutting the wolf mount's neck and waist of the spear men. The two fell rolling entangling some other riders as they crashed to the ground. there was only one ahead with Eira as Srane turned his horse to charge the others behind him there was a loud noise as Sarne collided with the other riders to take them down with him.
Sarne lay looking up. He knew he had cracked some ribs on that dumb maneuver. It worked as Sarne heard the race end. Sarne laughed to himself with some pain. and got to his feet and finished the race slowly.
Riding up to Eira lening a bit to the right. Sarne smiled "Great race, it was fun glad one of us made it first in the race. Glad it was you." said Sarne congratulating Eira.
