Under palest watch of a shining moon walked a demon as purple as a ripe starberry and a dryad who's complexation shared resemblance to the woods of the King's Valley. There had been concerned whispers among the locals, a multitude of cases involving the disappearances of townsfolk. Though, when asked, the villagers wouldn't dare utter a peep. No information was given, nor even an admittance to such disappearances ever occurring. It wasn't clear if the people were simply ignorant or perhaps hiding something sinister but one thing was for certain, the oddities pointed to Hauntwood.
The trek had already reached deep into the night, each step needing added care with the uneven ground the Marsh Flats lovingly had to offer. The fellblood hopped from exposed root to another, avoiding the softened ground and not wanting to get their robe/dress wet. Their tiny manta companion floated close by with worried coos. This forest carried with it an unnerving air to it, one that Cebu could sense. Was it the alarming amount of dead trees? How they would sometimes seem like people off in the distance? Or perhaps it was that consistent feeling of being watched, distant eyes holding piercing gazes at trespassers? Whatever it was, it was enough to send shivers down the spine of even the bravest of men and women. However, the little manta refused to leave her purple friend alone in this. As the fellblood continued their way with raised guard, they pulled out their book and charcoal piece from their makeshift belt, just their tail wrapped around the waist, as they wrote a little message for the dryad.
"Valerian was it? The man did say we'd find more clues here right? I don't believe he was quite specific about what it was that we'd find here." If Ube was honest, nothing about this particular quest felt right. From the despondent and uncaring attitude from the locals to simply how unsettling the scenery was, it'd be an understatement to say they weren't constantly on edge. Usually being in a forest at night was a comfort for the lad, things were simply not the same tonight.
As time continued to pass, a low hanging fog had begun washing over the woods. It wasn't quite enough to obscure vision completely but it did make it difficult to watch one's step. As if on cue, the foot of a fellblood caught an outcropping root and gave way to falling. Thankfully, Cebu reacted quick via placing herself onto Ube's chest and pushing them back up. They let out a sigh of relief, patting the manta in thanks before noticing something... strange. Up ahead, several balls of a differing color of light drifted in the soft wind. It danced amongst the dead trees with an odd and alluring blue glow to it. So much so that... Ube couldn't help but walk towards it.
