Everett keeps his hand pressed against the side of his head as he sits there and rests. He squeezes his eyes tight for a moment, listening to Leandros' light-hearted joke. Taking, a breath and opening his eyes again, he takes the waterskin as it is offered.
"Thank you."
He takes a long drink and then hands the waterskin back. The headache slowly starts to ease.
"I appreciate that, but I think I'll manage for the time being."
His condition is growing increasingly inconvenient. If he can't even have a conversation with someone without these headaches nearly bringing him to his knees, how is he going to get any answers about anything? He couldn't let things continue like this.
Perhaps he needs to visit Lady Calyptra again. He's also heard of other skilled healers including the Witch of Moonglade and of some mysterious herbal shop somewhere in Zeinav. While he trusts Lady Calyptra whole-heartedly, he doesn't want to disturb her or be a burden.
He could also seek out Cypress again. She likely couldn't do much for him given she is still in training. Still, he didn't want to make her feel bad by not checking in with her after she went out of her way to help him when she found him washed up on Capitol Landing's shores.
Glancing at Leandros, he wonders if the knight might know anything useful. He has brought up his wife more than once now.
"Uhm, has your wife ever treated someone for memory loss?"

"Oh, ah....my wife is not a physician of any sort...she just knows some about herbs and medicines....and wound treatment from taking care of mine." He smiles sheepishly and rubs at the back of his neck in embarrassment.
Honestly, he hadn't realized he was talking about her so much. Leandros could mention her a thousand times and not bear in mind just how often it is being done. After all who could blame him? She is smart, talented.....and his mind continues to drift to different superlatives before he pulls himself back.
"Memory loss, hm? A difficult problem....usually with a mysterious injury or sickness you can back track to a source of the problem, but hard to do when you can't remember."
A look of thoughtful concern crossed the knight's face. How could he help this man? It seemed far beyond the scope of what he knew. Memory loss is usually a wound that can't so easily be mended back together. At least no with what he knows about light magic. Maybe a different school could help, but that wasn't something he could provide.
"Are there certain parts you don't seem to remember or is there just a wall where your memories end?"

"She sounds wonderful. You're very lucky to have someone like that in your life."
How Leandros' expression warms and relaxes as he speaks and thinks about his wife is a little funny to watch. It's clear how much Leandros loves and cherishes his wife. It's a wonderful bond, one he feels a little jealous of. He isn't sure if he has ever had someone like that in his life, if he has, he certainly doesn't remember any of it.
"More like a wall," Everett admits as he looks across the valley and the rising steam from the cool rain hitting the hot rocks. "Or a thick bank of fog. Sometimes something drifts into view, but never for long and it's never super clear."
"I remember my name at least, but other than that I don't remember much of anything before washing up on shore."
Come to think of it...hasn't that happened more than once? He definitely met Lady Calyptra in the Marsh Flats before meeting Cypress in Capitol Landing...but he remembers washing up just outside of Sol City but not anything about being the Marsh Flat before then.
Racking his brain starts to make it ache again. He sighs and puts that all aside. He can figure it out later, right now he has a job to do.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to become a burden. I think I'm good to get back to work now."
Pushing himself up onto his feet and heads over to the next boulder. Many of the rocks have cooled significantly thanks to the rain. What's more is that the rain has made the slope a lot slicker so the rocks need less of a shove to start moving.

"She is truly my better half." He gives a soft smile and laugh before he settles back to hear Everett.
This certainly was a difficult situation for anyone to be in. Leandros' memories are what make up who he is as a person...who would he be if he didn't have those memories? Would he be the same man he is now or would something be different?
He would like to think he would still be kind, but that kindness was afforded to him by his knowledge of his privilege. What would change if he knew none of that? His mouth pulls a faint frown at the thought, but he clears the thoughts to focus on his new friend.
"There has never been a burden that comes from sharing your struggles." Leandros grins as he stands up. "Many hands make for a lighter load."
The knight is happy for the rain as well, it would make things much easier when it came to moving boulders. He gets behind one and puts a shoulder behind it as he started pushing. Slowly, but surely, it starts to move and roll down the hill. Well....pushing heavy boulders was still a lot of effort, but any sort of help made the process easier.

Everett laughs. "Well, I can say that I agree that fewer hands don't make life any easier."
After a few back-breaking hours, they manage to get the slope pretty much cleared of all the flaming rocks. The rain stops after a while, but with how humid is they hardly dry out any. Everett shakes water droplets from his hair and wipes the sweat from his brow.
Surveying their surroundings, it looks like none of the flaming rocks remain to cause any more trouble. Though there was hardly anything out here to be set on fire in the first place.
He sighs. A job is a job, he just hopes the pay will be decent enough to hold him over for a while. Doing more work like this so far from shore is likely to drive him mad at this rate. Gods know he doesn't need any more nonsense going on with his head right now.
"Thanks for the help. Probably would have been out here all night without your assistance." He smiles at Leandros and extends his hand for a handshake. "Maybe if we run into each other again it'll be without me accidentally rolling a boulder at you."

Leandros gives a sheepish look as Everett makes comment about fewer hands, an unintention faux pas on his part. A piece of him knows Everett did not take umbrage with it, but the other piece is upset at such an easy oversight.
The rest of the day is tiring, that can't be avoided, but with all the rocks gathered and cleared hopefully someone with some explosives or high powered magic can clear the rest. At the very least they had cleared the roads and surrounding land making it passable again.
"All in a days work. Stay well, friend....And please, if you are ever traveling the Landing, stop by. I won't promise a cure, but perhaps there is something in one of the books we own that can give us a clue." He smiles and accepts the handshake. "And if nothing else, it is a free meal and a room for as long as you need to stay."

Everett nods. "You as well."
He gives the man a firm handshake, though his grip strength is nothing compared to Leandros'.
"And I appreciate the offer, I'll do my best to remember to take you up on that."
And remember you.
He doesn't say it, because he knows there's a chance that he won't. He doesn't get to pick and choose what he remembers, but there is a nagging in the back of his head that there are people and things important to him that are lost within that fog clouding his mind.
Part of him desperately wants to remember, yet another part of him is uncertain. Maybe there's a good reason he's forgotten so much. Maybe there are things he's done better lost to time. He can't say for certain if there's any truth in those possibilities, but that doesn't stop the fear from stirring deep within him.
As they part, Everett watches the knight take his horse and ride off into the distance. It's a long walk back to the nearest port town. Maybe he'll take his time and take in the scenery.
A rumble of a storm somewhere off in the distance echoes between the mountaintops.
Then again, maybe not.
