Leandros similarly winces and loses track of the half-orc. He grits his teeth and focuses inward on himself. The knight is slowly encased in ethereal armor, a lion-like helmet covering his head.[1] He hopes the aura slows down the half-orc enough that he can at least catch his movements.
Slowly he starts to spin his halberd as well, the shifting weight creating a shield in front of him.[2] Leandros slowly turns his back towards the wall of the arena, hoping to keep himself protected.
All those defenses proved to be useful as the half-orc suddenly appears, his club clashing with the knight's halberd. Even with blocking the attack, Sweeg was surprisingly strong. As Leandros attempted to collect himself he found himself being kicked in the chest and off the platform. The knight was suddenly falling as the half-orc now turned back to Shaa, assuming he has evened the odds.
Once more the scarf comes into effect, but in free fall it is hard for the knight to find any recovery. He attempts to hook his halberd onto the support scaffolding but just ends up pulling a platform down. He does eventually find himself landing on a platform only 10 feet above the chittering beetles. Well damn, time to try and find a way back up.

The screaming was making Shaa’s head hurt. He knew that it wasn’t real but it didn’t mean it was any less annoying. He tried to focus on findin where the half Orc had gotten off to. He had managed to put some distance between them with that lightning spell but he knew it would not take the half Orc long to close on the gap. Where was he.
And then he got his answer. Shaa balked as he watched the Wiley champion burst out of nowhere and attack Leandros. That coward, Shaa grumbled. Shaa is about to rush over to help but watches as the fight is over before it starts. The platform underneath them collapses and the two fighters plummet out of sight. Shaa looks around for signs of Leandros but, to his dismay, he eees only the campion pull himself up onto the platform. Lee still had the scarf, he was probably ok. Shaa needed to focus on taking this guy down.
It takes only a moment for Sweeg to right him self and start back towards Shaa’s direction. Well the guy was persistent he would give him that. Shaa finds himself grateful for the screaming in his head so he doesn’t have to listen to the nonsense spewing from the crowd. Focus, he had to focus. Or maybe, he didn’t have to focus. Sweeg wasn’t the only one capable of broad range attacks. With Leandros out of the line of fire, Shaa would make him regret coming in after him.
Shaa started to generate extreme heat from his body. The atmosphere starts to become stifling and all around him becomes an intensely uncomfortable area. While he worked himself up, Shaa started breaking up boards and loose materials and gathered them into a stack in front of him. Where are you bean pole? Imma send you back to that stupid island in a box. As soon as these guys SHUT UP ALREADY! Shaa still couldn’t hear anything but he watched closely for a sign. Moment. Shuffled material. A piece of paper moving, anything. A drop of sweat in the sky….
It only takes a moment. He is too inundated to really focus but it doesn’t matter. As soon as he sees the sweat, Shaa unleashes a huge blast of wind, blowing the loose boards and nails from the platform in every direction. Argh! Sweeg yells as he catches a couple nails and a broken board to the arm and face. Gotcha Frog Face! Using the blood spray as a guide, Shaa leaps out at Sweeg and manages to grab his arm. When he does, he releases the electricity he stored from earlier, temporarily paralyzing the champions right arm.
The victory is short lived however as Sweeg counterattacks the Minotaur by back handing him across the face. Normally a simple move that he could avoid, Shaa is only able to partially block it as he is still impacted by the spell. Sweeg uses the brief distraction to hop to another platform and deal with his bloody arm. Shaa can feel his head staring to clear as he stares coldly at the champion.

Leandros huffed for a few moments to catch his breath after a fairly close call. He was starting to get a little bit annoyed at this whole gambit. The obstacles were enough, but the noise of the bugs below made it that much more annoying. This man was too quick and they were too separated to deal any combined damage.
As Sweeg moves back from Shaa, Leandros does see an opportunity. Right before the half-orc lands the knight fires a bolt of energy at the platform[1] demolishing it. The platform crumbles leaving the champion with nothing to get a foothold on. Unfortunately, the graceful fighter isn't off balance for long.
Like a cat, Sweeg seems to orient himself just right and catch himself enough to glide over to another platform.[2] Seeing as Leandros didn't seem to have as many debilitating attacks, he turned his attention back down to the knight.
Sweeg angles himself downwards and leaps at Leandros, splitting into two in mid-air.[3] Leandros readies himself for both, trying to sense which one is real, but his guess was wrong. As he swings for the right image, it passes through and the left cracks a club into the spirit armor. Even with the padding, he feels the hit deep into his ribs. Fast and strong, damn this was annoying.
He gives a wide swing to clear his space, Sweeg jumping back to safety and readies another pounce. Leandros tries something different this time though, waiting until Sweeg lands when suddenly his armor fades a bit. A spiritual lion roars out and sinks its claws into the half-orc[4] attempting to pint the man down for just long enough.

Finally Shaa’s head clears of the screaming and the only thing he can hear are the yells of the just regularly annoying jerks in the audience. Your’e gonna die Minotaur! Ahhh it was like music. Free from the distraction and knowing that he had managed to hobble Sweeg a bit, it was time to really go on the offensive. No more of this jumping around the pit like a Gurrillion who got into the sugar.
Shaa watches carefully as Sweeg engages with Leandros. As he expected, not only was he still alive but he was still holding his own against the champion. He sees a rope amid jumps to it to swing over to the next platform. It’s not as pretty or graceful as Sweeg but it got the job done as he land with a hard thump. The big Minotaur winces a bi as he lands hoping that he doesn’t go crashing right through the platform. When he feels he’s good, he makes his way over to where Leandros is engaged with Sweeg.
Between the collapsing platforms and broad attacks, he carefully watches for Leandros to create an opportunity for him to move in and strike. He knows that Sweeg’s right arm should still be paralyzed so he plans to attack him from there. From out of Leandros’s chests bursts forth some sort of spectral Lion that clamps down on a leg. There! Shaa rushes him as much as he dares and goes in to punch him in the face. Sweeg, in a surprisingly limber move, twists around and tries to club Shaa over the head.
Not this time. Clear headed, he sees the strike coming. As Sweeg brings the club down, Shaa grabs it with his left hand. It’s here that he notices it’s not an ordinary club, but full of thorns. Unphased by the thorns in his hand, Shaa scoffs at the attempt. Just who do you think you are fighting here? With a bit of focus, the club starts to smoke then bursts into flames in Sweeg’s hand. Dropping the club, he makes a strange gesture and frees himself from the Lion, rolling back to get some distance. Shaa tosses the now flaming club behind him. Not really a big weapons guy but… he reaches in to a bag strapped to his side and pulls out a second bag. Let’s see what fun we have for you today. rgBfjnoQ

The shimmer returns to Leandros' armor as the ethereal lion retreats back. He watches the two up there carefully. There wasn't much he could do from so far down below them, excpet for maybe creating a little bit of chaos for their opponent.
As Sweeg and Shaa clash the knight surveys the battlefield. He starts to move below, swinging his halberd to take out different platforms and cut pulley lines. It was a risk, but should be worth it with Shaa's battle sense.
It seems random and chaotic at first, but his focus is on cutting off escape routes for Sweeg. The man can jump, but only so far. If he has no place to spring to, then they can trap him and finally end things. Leandros looks up seeing Shaa reach into the bag.
"That can either be good or create a problem for us all." He jumps onto a platform and cuts the counter weight to spring him high into the air, landing on a platform about thirty feet away from the pair. If need be he could try and jump across, but the more important thing is there were no other platforms between him and Sweeg.

Shaa looks at the horn that he pulled from the Jolly bag of gifts and bursts out laughing. Hahaha ohhhh Sweeg. You are from an island so you might not know this. Way up north there is a creature who is unparalleled in leaping from high precipice to craggy mountain side. I would say is unparalleled in treacherous high jumps. Know what it is, do you hmmmmm? They are goats! Some of them are really big and really mean. Like….this one. Come on out Billy!
Shaa takes the horn and blows hard into it. When he does, the horn dissolves and in its place is a massive bipedal goat. It is covered in all white hair with icicles hanging off the tip. Hey Billy, see that guy? Shaa points to Sweeg and the goats gaze follows it. Today we are going to play “Knock that guy into the pit of Flesh Eating Beetles” but just that guy. Got it? The giant goat creature nods in acknowledgment and bursts right at Sweeg, his horns lowered to ram him.
Sweeg jumps back and flips onto another platform. Billy doesn’t slow down at all and matches Sweeg. Sweeg jumps again and again Billy jumps following right behind him. See what I mean! Shaa yells from the distance. Goats are so jumpy! Shaa knew one other thing about Billy that he wasn’t going to share. When Billy got done jumping, Billy liked to explode. And when he did, he was going to try and take the champion with him.

Leandros circles around the platforms that are left to try and cut Sweeg off. If they could corner the acrobatic champion, then this goat could do whatever it was it needed to do. That was easier said than done though.
Even with the platforms Leandros took out, Sweeg was still pretty nimble and could easy cross wider gaps than he anticipated. This was starting to get a little bit frustrating. It was like playing the world's strangest game of whack-a-mole.
In the midst of it all though, the knight suddenly had an idea. He didn't need to actually stop Sweeg, just trick him for a moment. Using the scarf he quickly crosses a few platforms and starts to make for one to cut off Sweeg. The knight takes a hard step towards it, but it's just a ruse.[1]
Sweeg pulls back to readjust and jump elsewhere, but that pause is all Billy needs to catch up.

The icy goat is relentless in pursuing the the champion across the platforms. He matches every jump, every twist and slowly but surely makes gains on the fighter. With a bit of teamwork and trickery, Sweeg hesitates and that’s all it takes. With a final push, the giant goat creature tackles him from behind. The two fighters crash hard into one of the mid range platforms.
Go Billy! Hahahah. Shaa considers the situation. He could run over there and help Billy beat on him. On the other hand, Billy is about to go out in a big way, it would not be good to get caught up in that, but can Billy hang on long enough to take him out? He needed to help him but how? He needed to give him home field advantage and take away Mr Jumpy Pants insane agility. He needed to make it rain.
He began to think and focus until a light drizzle was pouring over the platforms. There was enough water that puddles started forming in some of the more recessed parts. Some of the audience started to grumble about the unexpected downpour. But that didn’t matter. If they didn’t like the rain, they really weren’t going to like what was coming next.
Switching his focus again, he starts to summon the cold in the atmosphere. He sees the water firming around Billy and Sweeg and starts to pull the cold chill into it. Billy smiles at the drop in temperature and blows an icy blast into Sweeg’s face. The fighter grits his teeth and braces against the cold blast. Sweeg takes a hard swing at Billy and lands a solid strike to his arm. Billy shifts and punches Sweeg in the gut. The two exchange blows but as the temperature continued to drop, Sweeg started to slow.

Between the now three opponents, Sweeg was have a hard time keeping ahead of them. He fills the goat land its punchs as he tries to escape once again. All of the platforms that Leandros took down are paying dividends.
Sweeg has to think and pause more to make sure he can jump somewhere, but the drizzling rain has made it even harder to feel confident jumping. He just needs a moment to gather himself and reset.
"I AM NOT GOING to LOSE to SOME LIVESTOCK AND A TIN CAN." The half-orc fills the arena with his roar. The threat is short lived though as he jumps to another platform, foot slipping out from underneath him in the wet and freezing rain.
Billy sees the opening and launches himself higher than any goat ever has. He soars high into the air and arcs downwards to headbutt Sweeg directly in the stomach. The goat shatters into an icy explosion that blows out the platform sending the half-orc crashing into the beetles down below.
The champion is quickly swarmed as the world's worst nibbling begins.

Sweeg is in rough shape as he tries to stand up and make it over to a broken post that had fallen to the sid. Several people from the audience are calling out to him to keep pushing as the flesh eating beetles continue to crawl all over him and bite and gnaw his battered body. Shaa is not quite sure how Leandros will take this next move but this guy needed to go down. Still focusing on his cold Shaa completes the incantation, and watches as Sweeg gets frozen solid in the pit. With no more struggling, it doesn’t take the beetles long quickly whittle him down to nothing. Shaa had never taken out anyone via beetle before…unless you counted fire beetles…or swamp beetles…or Vorrapede…never mind.
Shaa motions over to Leandros as the announcement of their victory comes over the sound of the crowd. A large plank is connected to the platform as way for them to leave. It takes some careful maneuvering but soon the two fighters are out of the pit and escorted to the champions box. Marv, the man himself, is waiting for them there.
Congratulations you two. The large surly man croons. That was some exciting stuff out there I have to admit. When my daughter suggested filling the pit with flesh eating critters, I have to admit. I had my reservations. But, turned out alright in the end. Lost too many good fighters for my liking though. Did you know, we almost filled the pit with lava once? Logistical nightmare in the end and never went through with it. What will my daughters come up with next I wonder?
Marv takes a drink and motions for them to sit down. Well personally Marv, I’m glad it’s over. Some ovpfbthe aspects of this one…seemed a little personal. Marv laughs and waves off the comment. Of course they were my friend! The excitement is in the danger! For the spectacle of the fight. .Let’s be honest here. There are not a lot of fighters out there that could take you on toe to toe. We have to keep things interesting or we lose ticket sales. It’s nothing too personal mind you, but it’s the business. Maybe one day, we will find a really good one for you. And your friend too! Where did you pick this guy up? I bet we could get some matches for him! Shaa shakes his head. Lee is just here as a favor, not looking to get into the business I don’t think but he can speak for himself. In the mean time, you can deposit the winnings in the usual way. Of course, of course. Till next time my friend. Yeah….next time.
The two left the box and went out a private exit near the offices. Shaa turns to Leandros. Come on. We just have one more stop. The two walked until they came to the familiar shop that sold stew. The same girl was waiting the counter but with a slightly happier countenance. Sooooo…. Are we gooood? Shaa asked the girl with a slight coo. Yes yes you crazy idiot, we are all even. The boss put marks on you both for both matches and came out quite well. Personally I think you could have lost an ear or something to humble you a bit but otherwise I’m glad you are both ok. Geee thanks. The Minotaur snarked. I told you we’d be fine. Granted it got a bit dicey at points but we came out on top. What was up with the goat? If I’m being honest that was more luck than anything. Apparently. The girl ladles a couple of bowls and places them on the counter. Here try this. I call it “Winners Soup” They take the bowls and begin to eat. Leandros, I really can’t thank you enough for coming. If you ever need a hand with something, I owe you one. And I take debts very seriously.
As they chat and eat the soup, a troll saunters over to them and hands them fat envelopes. Shaa wags his envelope in the air a bit. Seems a bit light for all the fighting Brian. The troll looks at him and sneers. Burial fee for your opponents…what’s left of them. Shaa rolls his eyes a bit and waves him off. The sun starts to set and Shaa can hear the bugs in the marsh start their nightly ritual. The soup is good and he takes the time to really enjoy the small kick of spice at the end. Yeah this was good. Real good.
The End
