The day was noisy, as most were.
Sol City was usually rife with hustle and bustle, always something going on. Whether it be a large commencement event filled with festivities and beauty alike, or a chase of a criminal or another that had escaped the penitentiary, it was never a quiet city. Often it was hard to find a place that wasn't so painfully chaotic, as even the taverns and inns were full to the brim with loud patrons and bar fights.
All this wasn't the say that Eirene disliked Sol City, because she truly didn't. It was a beautiful place with wondrous culture and architecture, even if the history was a little rocky. That couldn't stop one from enjoying it though and all that it comes with.
Besides, Eirene knew how to get to the quiet places. Whether it be because of her luck or her appearance, the astralblood never had trouble asking if she could go to the roof of some buildings to relax. She sat atop a jeweler’s shop, her trench coat taken off and resting in her lap while her legs dangled over the side of the building. The wings at her hips were folded in, her glasses constantly needing readjustment as she read the novel she had picked in this city. Isolde had a tendency to over describe some of the novels, nearly spoiling some of the contents of them for Eirene. This time though, her mentor told her nothing, only to find it in Sol City and that it was called The Gambling Fog by Kit Thistletop.
So far the book was mediocre at best, though she had only started it 30 minutes ago. It was a very interesting cover, most likely a mystery novel from what she can tell. She found the main character quite boring and droll, but she couldn't make fast assumptions yet. Eirene sighed through her nose, adjusting her glasses where they lay perched. The hustle and bustle from below was only slightly muted from the distance.
“How strange...” Eirene remarked to herself in an almost silent voice, turning another page. Hopefully it would get interesting by the end of the day, if not she had to put another one in her bag for safe reading. Perhaps on a day where she was bored enough. Maybe she'd bring it to one of the kids back home, it would definitely help them in their reading.

Apple walked through the streets of Sol City, head swiveling around to see everything. As usual, they were closer to the edges of the crowds, moving through shadows in a failed attempt to be sneaky. All they were looking for was some food, and a quiet place to relax for a moment. Unfortunately, no one was being very generous today, and quietness was not something Sol City excelled at. Shame, because thats all Apple needed right now.
As they looked around and walked, they noticed another astralblood sitting on top of a shop. Apple paused to look at them, giving that weird stare that kids do. They didn't really mean to, but they were curious about the look of this one. Especially the halos, those were interesting them.
They stood on the opposite side of the street and continued staring for a bit, before walking over to that shop and asking to go upstairs. The shopkeeper gave them a judgmental look, obviously not happy to have a small child who didn't look all that great in his shop.
The shopkeeper shook his head and quickly shooed Apple out of the store. Snobby, stuck up idiot! Apple thought, walking out of the store. They looked back up to where the astralblood was sitting, having a strange want to go up there and hang out with them. Maybe it was just longing for someone who was similar to them.

Eirene sighed through her nose, all eyes rolling in bored tandem as she read another part of the book, finally introducing a side character. Young, smart, elegant…all typical traits for the secondary character morphing into an antagonist. How droll. This was the second romance novel disguised as a mystery that she had read this month alone. Honestly, did Isolde ever read anything else? These were so boring…
In rolling her eyes though, the wheels of blue eyes encircling her head carefully rotating in practiced tandem, she saw someone. It was a brief glimpse, but Eirene caught the form of a child on the ground, staring up at her. Shutting the book and using her thumb as a bookmark, the astralblood directed her gaze to the small figure below. A child on their own? The naturally caring instinct of the astralblood kicked in,and she tilted her head to see them better. Couldn’t be any older than 10, if that at all. No one was watching them, rather ignoring them and shooting scrutinizing glares their way. How cruel could someone be.
The two made eye contact, Eirene’s many on the child’s two. With a resolute hum, the woman stood up, walking back through the jeweler’s shop. The simpering shopkeep kept trying to bribe her into staying a little longer, but she kindly refused, pocketing the book in her bag and bowing respectfully for the patronage.
Eirene took a step outside, the sound much louder down below and put her trench coat on. She could see the child from here, a young one, as she expected. The aura coming off of the young one wasn’t entirely human either…could they be…
“Hello, young one.” She greeted, soft and warm. Eirene always found children to be easier company than adults, as their minds were only just developing and learning the world around them. All of her eyes narrowed onto this child, squinting into smile lines. Despite this though, Eirene’s expression was open and gentle, but not smiling. “Are you lost?”

Apple looked at Eirine, who had approached them. "I don't think I'm lost." They replied, shrugging. They knew where they were going, usually, so they didn't think that counted as being lost. Of course, their type of lost might not mean the same to others, so they couldn't be sure.
"I know where I'm going, at least." Apple added, figuring it wouldn't hurt to say that. They were liking Eirine already, she was being friendly to Apple on a day where most people weren't. People would glance at the two every now and then as they walked past, Eirines halos getting their attention. But they never stopped to stare, only glanced to them both before continuing their walk to their destination. "You're an... astralblood, right?" Apple asked, looking up at the much taller Eirine. "You look kinda like one, I think." They commented after asking the question. They were wanting to start a conversation with Eirine, hoping that she would stay and talk for a little bit. They couldn't force her to stay, but they could try to keep her here for a bit longer.

Eirine listened to the child speak with rapt attention, unsure of how to feel the more that they answered her question. What was more disturbing was the child’s complete nonchalance with being alone. They didn’t seem to care that they were speaking to a complete stranger. That was a bit alarming.
“That’s…good.” Eirene responded to the child’s response to where they were going. She didn’t quite know what to do about that, unsure if that meant they were alone because they wanted to or because they had no choice. At their next question, Eirene responded easily:
“I am, yes.” The woman had crouched down to the child’s level, towering over the little one by a few feet at least. People walked around them, curious and annoyed alike, but Eirene was focused on them and them alone. “My name is Eirene, I’ve been here for a few days now but I haven’t seen you around... Are you alright?”
Eirene found herself asking before she could think, her concern unyielding. She didn’t know how comfortable she felt speaking to a lone child. They were gentle, if not a bit apprehensive. Rightly so, Eirene dismissed. Her last question was vague, but she figured they would answer what they needed to.

Apple looked at themselves for a quick second when asked if they were alright. "I'm not hurt, I don't think. Am I not seeing something?" They asked, frowning. They weren't sure why the other astralblood was so concerned, seeing as they had no injuries. What else was there to be concerned about? Who knew, this was becoming a strange encounter.
They looked themselves over once more, just to confirm their suspicions. Yep, not hurt in any way. "...Am I meant to be doing something different, or something?" Apple asked another question, looking at Eirine with confused eyes. Man, this was strange to Apple. They were used to people just looking at them with pity and handing them something, or shooing them away with disgust and hatred in their eyes. Actual concern was making Apple not sure what they were meant to do, and they weren't liking that.
Apple was still struggling to think of why Eirine was so worried, all they were doing was talking. Then, interrupting their thoughts, their stomach made a loud, hungry growl for food. Oh right, they hadn't eaten for a bit. Curse needing food. "Oh- sorry. I didn't eat today, I guess." Apple said, giving an apologetic look to Eirine quickly.

Eirene’s expression was pinched, very concerned. Alright, definitely very young, possibly even abandoned. She wasn’t sure how to feel at first, but those increasingly alarming responses were starting to give her further justification for her nerves.
Eirene tilted her head, not immediately responding to the child’s confused inquiries. Well then, what did she do about this? No one was reaching out a helping hand toward them, almost as if they were completely avoiding the situation. The sound of their stomach rumbling gave Eirene an answer, and she readjusted her to the center again.
“You guess, hm?” Eirene repeated, recognizing the confused, slightly apprehensive lines of thought the child was hitting her with. They were too trusting, too easy to talk to. There was something so oddly unsettling about the fact that they were so clueless. “Well I suppose we’ll have to fix that then, won’t we? What’s your name, little one? What do I refer to you as?”
Eirene was more than perfectly obliged to help the kid out, even if they looked and seemed perfectly fine by themselves. She was certainly not about to let a child starve in her presence, no matter how much she detested city crowds.

Apple gave a hesitant smile to Eirine. "I'm Apple. And alright." They glanced around quickly, then back to Eirine. They'd let this stranger guide the way, trusting her to not get them both lost. Letting Eirine lead them towards somewhere, Apple continued looking around at the busy city.
Walking through the streets, Apple enjoyed people watching. Strangers of all different types were wandering around, and it was somewhat funny to see tourists getting lost as they struggled with their maps. It was the time of day that they usually went to the crowded places to watch everyone going about their lives. To Apple, it was the highlight of otherwise boring and bleak days.
Apple continued to follow behind Eirine, continued to watch the people moving around. The breeze was muffled by all the buildings as the sun shone high above, setting up a pleasant afternoon in the city.
