Apple wandered the streets of Darkveil City awkwardly, unsure of where to go. They had been stealing rides for a while now to get here, and they weren't really sure why. Maybe they just needed someplace more welcoming than the snobby streets of Sol City, or it pure need for exploration. They didn't really know, but they were here now, no matter how unhappy about their choice.
They stuck to the shadows mainly, keeping quiet on their walk. Then, they saw a bit of a commotion somewhere, and they went closer to check it out.
"...Gotta help him!" They heard the ending of a sentence. "Not me, I don't wanna get trapped as well!" Came the reply of another. The crowd was talking over each other, gathered around what seemed to be a painting. They figured this was safe enough to emerge, and stepped into the crowd.
"You do it!" A finger pointed at someone, and they shook their head. "I'm no adventurer! You're kidding if I'm getting in there." Apple looked confused, and tugged on a strangers sleeve quickly. "What's going on?" They muttered to the stranger, looking up at them with confused eyes.
Maybe coming here might have been a bad choice.

This was it. The start of a new chapter for Ube as they had finally built up the courage to leave the Crescent Isles and learn about the world they never yet to see. With an interesting starting point being Darkveil city as supposedly, a painter had discovered a way to bring their paintings to life. Ube didn’t really understand art but it didn’t hurt to learn. Arriving via wagon, they strolled through the city built by business to where the locals had pointed to the art exhibit where this painter was showcasing.
Getting close now, Ube could start to see the crowd. Though, it was odd. The faces of these people were not of awe nor excitement, but of panic and dismay. They quicken their pace, now rushing over to see what the commotion was.
The stranger looked down at Apple. In frightful speech, they said, “The man! The man along with a few others are trapped in the painting!”
Overhearing this, the fellblood squeezed through the crowd towards the center. Once through, they saw exactly as described: a human male with a ginger bobcut dressed in common clothes with a messy painter’s apron, banging on the painting from within as if hitting a window. “Someone! Please!! GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!” He cried, the screams of another crowd seemingly behind this man calling out for help. Ube retrieved their booklet and charcoal piece from their makeshift belt, their thin tail wrapped around their waist to preform as such, and began writing a response. Turning their book to the man in the painting, it read: How did this happen? How can I help?

The stranger that Apple questioned looked to Ube after giving this response. They looked hopeful, maybe this adventurer could help the painter out. "I don't know!" The painter replied hastily. "I- I was just testing this out, giving my first tour, and then bam! We're trapped and now we can't get out!" The painter cried out, desperately looking at Ube.
Apple approached the painting, where the groups landscape was seemingly starting to change. A creature made of swirling paint staggered into view, and the group screamed before going into chaos. People ran left and right, some going towards the window in the world to try and break their way out while others ran further in.
They looked up at Ube for a moment. Then, they placed their small hand on the painting and starting reaching in. Seems like the painting could still be entered, but not exited. Apple started trying to grasp the frantic painters hand, struggling to pull him out. But the painting refused to budge, and all that was happening was the painters arm getting squished in the window.
Apple reached their hand back, and watched as the beast in the background slowly made its way to a group that was running further inwards. They looked up at Ube again, eyes wide. "What do we do?" They asked softly, eyes darting around now.

Ube’s eyes widen in concern upon the sudden appearance of the beast. They needed to do something now! They’re worried expression was snapped out of by the surprise of a young child sticking their hand into the painting without any fear. As they turned to Ube, asking what the both of them should do, the fellblood gave a comforting smile as they wrote a reply in their book. ”You’re quite brave small one. I’m going to help them obviously.” Tucking their book back to their tail-belt, Ube moved headfirst into the painting. The feeling was weird. It felt as if their body was shifting, a feeling of squeezing and pulling as they slowly pushed the rest of their body in. Falling forward, Ube landed face first on what felt like grass. Looking up, they saw something out of storybook: they and the many people who they saw inside this vast plains, forestry towards the right, a ginormous castle of indescribable size looming further into the plains, the sky being of a starry night with bright stars and an even brighter full moon shining above. Everything in this place was visibly made of paint, yet it acted and felt as if it were the real thing. Ube was in awe of the spectacle that laid in front of them. The awe was promptly cut short by the yelling and screaming of the captives here, the ginger haired human behind them spoke. ”O-oh my, thank you so much! Please, help us!” The fellblood clenched their teeth. Now, they needed the group to get behind them so it would be easier to defend them. The only problem was… They had a certain muted problem. Only thing they could of now was to get this monster’s attention. (Spell Cast) Holding their hand out in a finger gun, the dark purple stripes that adorned their arms, legs, and waist began to glow a bright pink. At the tip of Ube’s finger gun, a bright purple ball of electricity began to form. Ube aimed for the creature’s center mass and from their finger, a bolt of that purple lightning danced through the air, colliding with the paint creature. It groaned and quickly turned towards Ube. Here goes nothing.

Apple watched from the outside as the fellblood climbed in and attacked the beast. They shuddered, letting anyone face that thing alone would be horrible. Climbing into the painting before anyone could stop them, they fell face first onto the ground before standing back up.
They looked at the beast, which gave a loud yell and started advancing towards Ube. It was quickly gaining speed, now that it was actually upset. Onlookers from inside the paint world all split up and started running around, screaming in terror as small bits of paint would whirl around and trip them. This was going to be hard to deal with.
Apple ran up besides Ube quickly, as the paint beast came to a halt and reared upwards. Thinking quickly, they closed their eyes and held up a hand, energy crackling in the center of their palm [1]. It glowed and pulsated, before shooting itself at the beast and hitting it in one of its arms. They flinched as it made contact, and the beast let out an angry roar.
It slammed down onto the painted ground, getting ready to slam itself into the two of them. It looked very very mad, and not at all merciful. The paint world seemingly was twisting itself around this monster, colors changing with it and paint falling into the world as the world became a part of it.
The creature backed up slightly, lowering its head and beginning to charge at the duo. Apple ducked out of the way, just barely getting missed with their small size. They looked back, hoping to see Ube unharmed and out of the way. The monster had rammed into the window to the outside world, but not a single crack formed in the way out of this prison.

Ube took a deep breath as the beast charged forward, moving their hand down as a black miasma formed around it. (Spell Cast) The aura moved down to the tips of Ube's fingers, solidifying and hardening into 4 inch long claws. Though before they could use it, that child from outside the painting was suddenly stood next to Ube. Jaw dropped with overwhelming concern, they tried to put a hand out to pull them away from this situation.
However, to their surprise, the demon-like watched as this kid called upon what appeared to be light magic, launching it at the creature. They were impressed by this kid, though still worried for their safety. Now was not the time to be worrying though as the creature had charged forward still and was getting too close for comfort. Hoping the kid knew what they were doing, Ube leapt into the air, raising their legs up higher and putting their hands down to push off the beast: essentially leap frogging off of it. They landed on the ground safely, hearing the loud thud of the creature slamming into the entrance of this painted world.
Turning around and relieved to see the kid was ok, Ube rushed at the painted monster with their black claws at the ready. They slashed across the back of this thing, it roaring in pain. The monster reared its head back on its two combatants and gave a crooked smile of white paint. Suddenly, the beast's form started to liquify and to the two's horror, split off as living sludges. 3 clumps of paint, one darting towards them slowly taking the shape of some sort of creature, the other two heading towards where the groups of people ran off to.

Apples eyes widened in fear, but they quickly narrowed them in panicked concentration. Think, think, think... Then, they got an idea, one that was probably a bad one but an idea nonetheless. They focused again, taking a deep breath and letting their body become surrounded in crackling lightning [1]. They charged at one of the creatures that was advancing to the closest group, wrapping themselves around one of its legs and stunning it.
They jumped back from a swipe coming down at them, and they grabbed the arm that was swiping at them to stun it as well. The creature roared in pain, stopping to confront Apple. They both stared at each other for a moment before Apple started to run, the creature limping after them.
Apple ran as fast as they could towards the other creature, grabbing hold of one of its legs and doing their best to stay attached as the creature tried to kick them off. It screamed with anger, succeeding in kicking Apple off and sending them flying away.
They landed with am oomph, sitting up as the creatures advanced towards them. They were moving slowly, with the stunned limbs and all. Apple was just thankful they still had the armor, though they knew it wouldn't last long enough. Staggering to their feet, they watched the monsters slowly approaching them, glad that at least the groups were safe.
But what about Ube? The creatures were blocking their sight of the fellblood, and Apple was worried they weren't alright. They could hear the original creature and Ube fighting, but they weren't sure who was winning that fight. Apple sure wasn't winning theirs, they were one hit away from something bad happening.

The paint creature formed into that of an orange panther. Ube took a step back, readying themselves. The moment the painted beast stepped into range, they took a quick step forward and kicked straight up. However, this creature was prepared for the attack and sidestepped the kick. The painted beast retaliated with a bite to Ube's leg. They winced from the pain as the creature began to drag them along the floor. It hurt like hell, the teeth of this thing pierced pretty bad. However, Ube brought down their free leg, stomping onto the head of the beast into the floor. It let go of the fellblood as both tumble on the floor a bit from the momentum. They got up fast and delivered one final kick into the belly of the beast. The beast is sent into the air, their form wavering as it falls onto the ground as normal paint. Ube sighed in relief before turning to check on the kid. Fear was the immediate reaction, seeing the two creatures approach the child. They started to run but fell over a little, the pain in their bitten leg seared. They bit their lip. It doesn't matter right now. Just move!
1Ube's hands formed those claws once more as they forced themselves to sprint to the child. Slamming their ok foot on the ground, they leapt forward towards the creatures and delivered quick slashes across the backs of them. As they landed in front of the child, the creature who had received two shocks fell to a paint puddle, the damage it took being enough. The last, wounded, still approached. Ube took a stance, albeit painfully, focusing on defending rather than approaching.

Apple watched as Ube threw themselves forward, attacking the creatures. As the one fell into murky paint, the last one standing shifted into a large, towering creature. It was thin, but obviously not that weak. The thing gave a loud roar, and started stomping at the two. It advanced quickly, trying to decide on whether to focus on Ube or Apple.
It made up its mind quickly, targeting the closest person. Ube. It brought down a large hand, slamming it down towards Ube. Apple let out a muffled scream of horror, covering their mouth and staring with wide eyes. But, as the hand lifted, it seemed to have missed the fellblood by a bit, leaving them unharmed but probably shaken.
Apple lifted their small arm, taking another deep breath as the lightning continued to crackle around them. It was dimming, losing its power the longer it stayed. It only needed to stay a bit longer though, as energy began to form in the plan of Apples hand, taking form and shooting itself at the monster.
But the monster didn't go down, not yet. It was melting slowly, paint dropping off it and merging with the ground. The thing turned to look at Apple, and started approaching them, towering over them. It raised a skeletal hand, slamming it down as Apple tried to jump out of the way. It missed the majority of them, but caught one of their legs.
Apple gave a scream, looking at their leg which was now stuck in the ground. The paint from the monster was swirling around, forming into something that was blocking their leg from moving out of the ground. They were trying to scramble backwards as the monster raised its fist again, not noticing how it was limp from the armor that still crackled around Apple.
Paint was dripping from this monster quicker and quicker, and just as it started to bring its fist down the paint collapsed onto the ground, mixing into the ground and disappearing from view. The armor had done the trick, finally and thankfully. Just in time, all the monsters were gone and the crowd was starting to gather around the two.
People kept speaking above each other as Apple struggled to painfully yank their leg free, not being able to see how bad the damage was from the paint blocking the view. Probably for the best, as Apple wasn't feeling like they were up to seeing it. Everyone was asking how the two were, showering them in thanks and concern.
Then, the painter stepped up and looked down sheepishly. "I think I need to apologize, its my fault we're all in this mess." He said, keeping his gaze to the ground. "I should have known the risks of making this." Apple looked to Ube, waiting for their response.

Ube’s eyes were wide with fear, barely hearing the other people and painter talking. They limped over with their black claws still out. Slicing at the bone that was left over on Apple’s leg, Ube slowly lifted the hand to see the horror that awaited under it. They were furious, not just at themselves for allowing a child to be harmed but at the painter for causing this mess in first place. Though, they’d rather not explode in front of the injured kid. Dropping their bag to the ground, they dug into it to pull out their tent kit. Shaking the claws away, Ube tore at their tent, pulling pieces of the fabric out. Once enough was obtained, they looked towards Apple with a nod. This would hurt a bit but it was the best they could do for the time being. Carefully, they wrapped the bloody and disfigured leg tightly, sticking one of the metal poles used for the tent as a makeshift splint.
Taking a step back, Ube moved towards the painter. The crowd was silent under the fellblood’s very apparent threatening and enraged aura. They got close with an innocent smile, that smile turning into an intense look of hatred as they whispered into the painter’s ear with their barely used voice. ”You’re going to pay every single solar that heroic child will need for medical procedures. Understood?” “U-Understood…” Ube back off, their face holding that innocent smile once more as they moved back to the kid. They crouched in front of them before swiftly lifting the kid up, putting them on their back so they could hang onto Ube. Taking out their book and charcoal, they wrote: “Hey kiddo, you didn’t have to come and help me, especially with what has happened to you. I thank you for your aid however. Please let me take care of the rest alright? Your mother will probably kill me if anything else happened, gods forbid” The fellblood held the book out for the kid to read.
Looking back at the crowd and the mess of paint left on the false grass, an idea formed in Ube’s head. Those paint creatures were capable of moving and shifting their body. Not to mention they could turn into things that they were sure didn’t exist… Ube walked over to the paint, dragging their finger across it to get some. Limply stepping their way to the window, they began to draw on it. A vertical rectangle shape with a colored-in circle on the right.

Apple gave a forced smile at Ube, staring at the words 'Your mother will probably kill me if anything else happened, gods forbid.'. They didn't say anything, just let Ube do whatever it was they were doing. Apple was a tad confused, wondering why they were painting a door on the window, before the paint started to move. It was first shivering, then it started swirling around until it formed a real door. Some others rushed over to it and opened it, giving cries of relief as it went into the real world.
People started flooding out of the painting world, reuniting with loved ones outside of it. As Ube and Apple walked out last of all, people started to give them thanks again. The crowd was quickly dispersing though, as everyone made it out of there and people got those who they cared about back safely. The painter looked pretty upset and shocked, and the moment Ube wasn't looking he slipped away from the crowd and vanished into the streets of Darkveil.
Apple watched him go with a frown, and slid off Ubes back. "Thanks. I hope to see you again." They said to Ube, and started to limp away from them. Now they just had to get back to Sol City somehow. Waving goodbye, they moved out of view from Ube.
