The trip was largely uneventful, as Gwen spent most of it staring up at the approaching volcano. Surely whatever they were after was there, hopefully they weren’t sacrificing anyone to the magma or something barbaric like that. As they reach their roadblock and find the area increasingly volatile, she grimaces, placing a hand on the solid stone barring their path. There was little to do that wouldn’t send more rocks tumbling down upon them. If only the legendary minotaur were here. She did have bombs, it would alert the enemy to their presence and potentially make the path collapse. But it was an option if the others didn’t have a better way through. “Here, I’ll make us some cover. Any ideas for getting through?” She says, already waving her arms above them, creating a sigil. Once it activated, a wall of light grows from its center, protecting the party from any crashing stones. (1) Alvina Sits invisibly on Moris head, Mori oblivious to the obvious increase in weight and the explosive that she dangled with her tail behind the hood. It almost looked like part of her robe, were she a Zeinavan tourist who picked up some trinket to dangle. Out of place, but still interesting. Gwendolyn wasn't confident in the structural integrity of passages dug by earth domain practitioners, else she would have ordered Mori to Mold a hole straight through. She was still only an apprentice after all. GwendolynWall of light - You throw up a transparent screen of yellow light, hanging in the air and glowing. Javal praises Layla as she gives the party a wagon and even a horse, “Thank you very much Lady Layla, your charitable donation to the cause of justice shall be remembered and rewarded greatly. I deeply apologize for any destruction that we have caused in the pursuit of bringing those poor unfortunate burnt souls. I may not have many solars but here take this it’s the least I can do to pay for your generosity”, he then bows and hands Layla a fistful of solars.
He chuckles then looks over to his compatriots, “Well good news my friends it appears that we shall not be forced to walk the entirety of the way to Mt. Drakolt instead we have been graciously given a means of travel. Although I’d say I would be able to run quite quickly if need be thanks to my ice magic”.
“Now let us get a move on”, he says as he plops down at the back of the cart keeping a close eye for any ambushes from any potential new foes. Given that a surplus of them had already been thrown at the group, Javal was hesitant to lower his guard down.
On the party’s journey upon the cart, Javal tries to go over some basic strategy against their foes, “I’m a sea mage primarily with a handful of items, I’m mainly a swordsman that relies on using magic in tandem with my physical strength”.
As the group approaches their impasse Javal gets a couple of ideas of what he could do to help out, “I have a couple of suggestions now that we have been assured nothing can fall on us thanks to Lady Gwendolyn, I can attempt to use my boomerang arc technique to cut through the stone, or I can punch through the stone although that option may take some time, or I can construct a bridge made out of ice around the boulder. We can choose one of my ideas or something else if someone has a better idea”.

Just as Vail was about to voice his frustrations in regard to their lack of proper transportation, the tavern door suddenly opened. He readies himself to strike from within the shadow, only to pause once he sees Layla. Her offer for transportation surprises him, especially considering the property damage done via both his companions and adversaries. He waits patiently for Javal to finish giving his thanks before emerging from the darkness. Their eyes meet as he wears a somber smile, one free from any facade or misdirection. “Thank you, I’ll return to repay this kindness one day. I promise.” He turns and climbs into the back of the wagon, ushering the rest of the party along while they still have some manner of trail to follow. He keeps his eyes away from the volcano itself as they travel, trying his best to put aside his lingering memories of the tortures his former family used to commit there. Javal’s talk of strategy is a welcome distraction from the ghostly howls of burn induced screams; he jumps on the opportunity to finally formulate some manner of strategy, as well as the chance to warn his allies in the event his other half took over. “I mostly stick to the shadows, avoiding conflict unless it’s necessary. That being said, I can handle myself in a fight as you have previously seen. I prefer to fight unarmed, but I’m willing to improvise if need be. I also know some light magic, although it’s pretty new to me.” He pauses briefly, looking at Drakolt as he continues. “I also have a bit of a handicap, unfortunately. I tend to lose control when around excessive cruelty. I have been lucky enough to avoid it so far, but I can’t rule out the possibility of it happening. If any of you are tied to any dark beings, it’s best you let me know now. I think it tends to target fiends in particular.” As the trail narrows, the party proceeds quietly on foot until they reach a sudden roadblock. Gwen’s quick thinking shields them from falling rocks as they begin to debate how to proceed forward. The situation strikes a familiar chord as Vail remembers a certain excursion in Moonglade, one involving a glittery individual and their rather impressive ring-gauntlets. He listens nonchalantly to Javal’s suggestions as he withdraws a pair of black painted gauntlets, a custom piece acquired just for situations like this. While the fellblood’s methods may work fine, they were running low on time, and he rather not be stuck under an avalanche of rocks. He responds to his companions as he dons his gauntlets, pulling back his right arm as he takes aim at the solid stone wall. “Those ideas might work, but I would prefer it if you didn’t exhaust yourself. Leave this one to me; just ready yourself to face whatever awaits us on the other side. Gwen, prepare to brace your wall, not sure how much damage this will cause.” With his intentions given, Vail’s fist flies forward, impacting the stone wall.

Gwen's cover grants them some much needed protection from the shower of loose rocks rolling down the steep slope of the volcano. It doesn't take the party long to come up with a plan to bypass the thick slab of stone that barred their way, and execute it with great success.
The stone slab cracks and crumbles from the impact of Vail's enchanted gauntlets, reduced to a pile of rubble before the party. Revealed behind the slab of stone is a tunnel that stretches deep into the depths of the volcano itself, descending at a slight angle.
As the party passes over the rubble and enter into the tunnel, they would notice a few things.
First and foremost, only a few lengths from the opening to the tunnel, is a small alcove off to the side is where a horse-like creature is tethered. The creature's skin is blackened and pulled tight across its bones, giving it an eerie skeletal appearance. Most notably though is its flaming mane and tail and burning red eyes. It stares at the party, snorting and pawing its sharp hooves against the stone floor.
Next, near the horse's feet, is a large pile of ash, and a few paces deeper down the tunnel reveals a few more large piles of ash as well as scorch marks decorating the tunnel walls. Upon closer inspection, the ash piles have singed pieces of fabric and bits and baubles of inflammable material, like belt buckles, some loose Solars, and even a pair of half-melted spectacles.
Lastly, the tunnel is unguarded. Other than the snorting horse, there is no sound. No voices. No footsteps. Nothing. It's almost like the immediate vicinity has been abandoned, which may strike the party as odd given the stone slab was intended as a first-line of defense. Where was the second line?
Proceeding further down the tunnel, the terrain would shift. The walls became less rough and rounded and more smooth and flat. The soft glow from a magma flow that cuts uncomfortably close to the path the party is able to traverse reveals odd etchings in the glassy obsidian walls. There's a geometric pattern scrawled into the wall, odd angular patterns which nearly appear nonsensical, until one squinted and took a step back.
Something seemed to align and shift in the patterns, and like a lenticular image revealed a fearsome illustration of what appears to be a draconic creature larger than any mountain, wings outspread over the entirety of a landscape dotted with rudimentary drawings of various individuals raising their hands towards the massive entity.
Another tremor shakes the tunnel around them. It's stronger than the previous tremors, and a large crack forms on the opposing side of the tunnel next to the lava flow. The flow seems to increase in volume and threatens to overspill should the group not continue on their way.
Ahead, the party can see a more intense glow of red light and what appears to be a much larger chamber.

Gwen turns her head as the brainstorm comes to an end, watching as the gauntlets demolish their obstacle. “Huh, nice work Vail.” She says, returning her focus to the wall of light above them. She angled it so that the rocks would fall behind them as they entered the tunnel, blocking access at least temporarily to any who would follow. Like sealing their own tomb she thought privately, though Alvina certainly agreed. Any death that would befall the party would not harm the main body of the idle patron, but it would set his plans back by at least 2300 years. The heat inside the tunnel was almost unbearable. Gwendolyn herself accustomed to the near freezing temperature of Mystwud Manor now stuck inside some lava tube. Her pores would not recover from this for at least 2300 years. Unfortunately, this was looking like a press forward without reservation style mission as she noted the increase in magma from the crack in the wall. “Mori, once we’re past, seal the tunnel please.” Mori offered a tired salute, standing fore by the entrance to the larger chamber. The Feline-kin shed her stuffy outer robe in the heat, ears visibly droopy as her tail swayed side to side. She prepared an earthen sigil that covered the floor of the tunnel, ready to be activated once the party walked through. (1) Gwen stood on the sigil, turning to face the small group of adventurers. “From the look of those carvings, we’ll be facing something quite powerful. If you value your life, none will judge those who turn back now. Those who stay, take the protection of the mists.” (2/3) It would be ephemeral at best, but confidence was a shield upon it’s own merits. The Paladin had her own preparations to make before turning at walking towards their fates. She pulled out a vial of blue poison. She carefully looked at it, shrugged, and placed it back in her pack. Another, extremely similar vial was pulled out and drank. (5) The difference between the two was unknowable, but Gwendolyn swallowed it with pure confidence. after that, she strides confidently into the unknown. Javal waits for Gwendolyn and Vail to voice their opinions on his ideas before seeing Vail just demolish the stone wall blocking their path forward. Javal braces himself, raising his arms to instinctively stop any incoming small rocks but opens his eyes to see none fall; they were fully protected by Lady Gwendolyn’s shield.
Javal then shortly bows at Vail and Gwendolyn feels a fire burn within him yearning to help his team in any way he can. They had done so much till now they just needed the final push against whatever was up here causing trouble.
Javal leads the party ready to face any surprise attacks and hold the line as they continue forward into the tunnel before them.
Javal feels unnerved by the sudden appearance of the strange eerie horse; it looked very similar to his steed Asliepmir but looked colder, almost unalive.
Javal notices the small pieces of fabric and ash all around the party it appears that wherever the group was in they were not the first people in here, “Perhaps there are others still here right now”, Javal thought to himself as he continued.
Javal almost jumps back, seeing the strange draconic creature’s figure on the wall but he steels on getting slightly excited at what he would meet at the end of the tunnel.
Javal stoops before an area of red light noticing that the lava flow is beginning to increase and may affect the travelers as they continue forward.
Javal stands up straight, responding to Gwendolyn, “You have me and my blade, we shall not leave here until the job’s finished and we will all come out alive together I’m sure of it".
He stood then felt some sort of charged field around him having a feeling one of his friends had given him some kind of protection. He then thought about what he needed to prepare as Nadia readied herself grabbing Javal’s ray bow from his coat and placing her bow onto her back. He then touched the tatto on his stomach summong two extra arms (2) from his torso. He wielded his katana in his upper right arm, his lightning spear in his upper left arm, his sky rider in his lower left arm and left his lower right arm free in case of needing to cast spells. He used his free arm to coat his blade and lightning spear with ice (3)
remembered that he didn’t have anything he could prepare; his only option during the battle would be to fight with everything he’s got.
Javal says, “Nadia and I are ready to enter the battle”.

Vail pulls back his fist slowly after the impact, seeing cracks spread through the stone face like shattering glass. Despite his confidence, it was actually his first time using the gauntlets on something larger than a small boulder. Much to his relief, the rock quickly collapsed, leaving merely a cloud of dust in its wake. He shakes the lingering dust off of his hand as his fingers relax; a satisfied smirk forming across his face. He allows Javal and Gwen to take the lead as they proceed into the newly revealed tunnel. This was the deepest he had ever ventured into the tunnels of Drakolt and for good reason, the heat grows more intense with every step he takes. The Demonic horse doesn’t discomfort him like it does Javal; he has seen similar creatures pass through Darkveil, albeit rarely. If anything, the beast reminds him of Cirice’s demonic reindeer, but perhaps a bit less friendly. The real surprise to him was the ash piles strewn about the tunnel as well as his reaction to it, or rather lack thereof. Whatever cruel fate these people suffered, there was no doubt it would have triggered his condition. Perhaps his uninvited guest didn’t recognize the ash piles as former mortals; a rather cruel blessing but a blessing, nonetheless. The path forward was uncomfortably quiet, aside from the low bubbling of magma. The walls of the subterranean lair are littered with carved images, a feat that no doubt took quite a bit of time. Whether they were made by the ash piles they had previously passed by or by someone deeper within, he did not know. The carvings depict a monstrous, dragon-like beast, bigger than the mountains resting below it. Whatever it was, Vail certainly hoped it wasn’t real; he came here on request to fight some kidnappers, not some draconic god. Just as he finished his thought, Gwen started to speak. Her timing was impeccable, as if they called his very doubts. He sighs and looks down for a moment as he contemplates. Even though the odds might be tremendously stacked against them, his conscience wouldn't let him rest if he turns back now. Besides, his life was already borrowed; better that he suffers before any other.
“I’ll be honest, we’re probably in over our heads here. I would suggest we turn back and lead a larger party back here, but I doubt we have the time for that. It’s best we try to stop whatever this is here before it has a chance to leave this cave. I’m with you, for what it’s worth.”

As the three adventurers moved forward through the tunnel towards the chamber, a haze of smoke and ash began to permeate the air swirling around their movement. Those with magic detection do notice strands of Primordial Earth throughout the cloud, though it does not seem to be traditionally sourced from the Earth Domain as Elementalists would understand.
Upon reaching the threshold, the adventurers would take in the scene. The chamber held a roughly circular shape with smooth obsidian floors and walls that looked like they were sweating from the heat. A closer inspection would reveal that the sweat was the reflection of white etchings from the light provided by the open pit of lava in the approximate center of this chamber that was also one of the sources of the ash that they’ve been walking through.
The intimateness of the chamber was both physical and mental. The suffocating heat coupled with the flickering reflections of light off of the ash white etchings on the wall reinforced any sense of claustrophobia and dizziness that the adventurers may be experiencing. Then there was the man loosely holding a smoking obsidian censer at knee height, dripping with what looked to be the same substance within the pit that he was standing in front of. The face looked to be just past middle age, full of laugh lines, stress wrinkles, a full beard gone grey, and twinkling blue eyes, it was neither smiling and the twinkle resembled more like ice shards. He wasn't particularly tall, maybe a nice even 5' 10" and besides the beard the man was fully covered in tattoos that were a carbon copy of the etchings on the walls.
His stance was pretty relaxed, lightly bouncing on the balls of his feet to keep limber. His ice blue eyes carefully observed the adventurers as they arrived at the threshold, being really careful to note shifts in body weight, shifts in particles on the smooth obsidian ground, or in hand movements that would indicate spells or weapons being drawn. He wasn't sure if they were the type to attack right away or were the more curious types. Well, things were going according to plan so far and now it was time for the finale.
"Adventurers, thank you for coming. I am the Ashen Father and you are here to witness my glory."
His words were said in that hospitality tone, the same tone you would hear from an innkeeper welcoming you to his tavern, an eerie tone considering the backdrop. What next, Adventurers? Or do you want me to make the first move?

Javal looks around noticing that suddenly as he entered the chamber the ash and smoke began filling the room setting him off. They were about to approach the source of all the evils they have faced so far. If there were any warning signs that there was about to be a large conflict this was it and Javal was ready.
He notices the strange walls that had strange white markings and the room being lit up by an open lava pit.
Javal was begging to work up a large sweat as the group entered further and further, “He had to take his long red coat off immediately as soon as he had the chance”, he thought.
Javal suddenly stopped himself from continuing to observe the strange old man with a smoking censer before them. He would usually greet his gentlemen with a hello, handshake, or even a bow but this man’s presence felt unnerving. Something inside Javal was yelling no screaming for him to fight to get the man off his guard at this moment. Anger was boiling inside Javal, this man who claimed himself “the Ashen Father '' was the center of all this violence all this senseless murder and chaos. People had gotten hurt because of him and he dared to taunt the adventurers and act like this was any other day. No, Javal was going to give this old man everything he had. Everything told Javal to ignore his code that someone as evil as this cannot be allowed to continue committing their misdeeds any longer.
He jumped into action and threw his lightning spear (1) at the man hoping that he’d dodge to the side after he rushed at him slashing him with his trusted glowing blue (2) and angelic light enveloping (3) sword, “Theseus”.
At which the point when the old man would most likely attack Nadia fires an arrow of light from her ray bow at the moment where javal ceases his attack and the old man’s chance for retaliation.

Her eyes darted towards Javal as he bristled for a fight entering the chamber. The tension threw her off guard for just a quick moment, unable to act before the mercenary was throwing himself towards the enemy. Her eyes were in awe, never really seeing Javal in full form before, before shrugging and sauntering towards the inevitable herself. “Not alot of glory from an old man living in a volcano.” She retorts, hoping to strike a small amount of conversation with a rare target. “What is all this sacrifice and apocalypse malarkey anyway. Delusions of a madman?” Light lit up the chamber as she spoke, still idly closing the distance between the two as Javal swung and Nadia shot. “Mori, Defense.”
Mori nodded her head, the ears flopping forward ever so subtly as the bell on her neck jingled. She cast a sigil on the ground in front of Nadia, raising a waist-high wall of obsidian to protect their back line. (1) Crouching behind it, she awaited further orders. Alvina, still clung onto the back of Moris clothing, released himself in the cover of the small battlement. She dashed forth, off to the side, running invisibly off to the right of the chamber, hoping to get behind the enemy. Gwendolyn finally approached close enough to be part of the action. The wind from Javals blade could be felt as it passed close to her face, though she remained unflinchingly direct with the Ashen Father. What a joke. The absolute gall of this man to announce his title like it was some symbol of honor. Whatever distinction this man drew between himself and the lords of Darkveil, it was lost on Vail. To him they were identical; they both sacrificed the wellbeing of innocents for power, they both exploited those beneath them with false promises, and they both reveled in the fear they spread. Real or fake, Vail has no qualms about killing this Ashen Father.
Before Vail can address the tattooed man, Javal lunges forth, followed shortly by Gwen. Whatever chance they had to talk with the adversary, it was no doubt cast aside by their aggression. Vail continues to watch the man, saying only one statement as his allies strike. “I don’t care what you think you are. You’re a parasite, hiding in the dark as you take the lives of others for your own desires, just like all the rest.”
He moves to the waist high wall the Mori had constructed, keeping an eye on their adversary with each step he takes. Something was off about this; their opponent wouldn’t reveal themselves so candidly if he didn’t have something planned. The man’s eyes were monitoring their every movement when they first entered, clearly waiting for us to make the first move. Perhaps they were playing right into his hands; the enemies they pursued here would have had plenty of time to inform this man of their behavior. Vail could easily see this man having a counter prepared, anticipating Javal to immediately strike with reckless abandon.
With that in mind, Vail fires a bolt of light aimed at the man's right leg[1]. At this distance, he would easily have time to react should the bolt be reflected back at him, but the old man would likely be too occupied with his companions to dodge it himself. He watches as the bolt grows as it travels, hoping it impacts successfully, but dreading what may come should it not.
Free actions: Moving behind the cover Mori constructed.
Offensive Action [1]: Purity Bolt aimed at the man's right leg.

The plans of mice and men and all of that other nonsense. The exact moment that the man went to throw his spear that was turning into a lightning bolt a cylinder of obsidian shot towards the group of adventurers, its source could be briefly seen was from the obsidian censer of the Ashen Father. This cylinder was conjured with the precise measurements of the chamber taking up all available space, though there were small corner gaps, from which lava spurted out of the edges of the cylinder, that appeared on the lower left and right side as the floor was flat and not curved. The moments that the adventurers had to assess this imminent danger hurtling towards them would suggest that this was the exact technique used to make this chamber and secondly that this was going to hurt.
So many decisions to be made, adventurers, commit to the lightning spear and hope it pierces or do you have another method? Is there enough firepower to meet this massive obsidian structure hurtling at the speed of the Blink spell? Do all of you decide to escape and try to figure out an alternative method of engaging? The Ashen Father himself was already planning his next series of moves and keeping a close eye on disturbances in the ash and smoke that would indicate invisibility, as for him this was just the opening act. Feeling out the limits of his opponents, eliminating setups, and causing general chaos so he can exploit the right timings. Do you feel outmatched yet? Or are you confident in your strength in numbers?
_________________________________________________________________________________________________ Current timeline is at the moment Javal went to throw his spear, the Ashen Father responded with his own technique which manifested at the equivalent of the Blink spell though not complete teleportation speed as you do have time to respond in a instant reflex sort of way. Getting hit by the cylinder would be a Major Wound.

As Javal was charging forward trying to land a sword slash on his opponent he saw a giant block of cylinders coming straight at him.
He barely had a second to think of what to do before the block approached but suddenly the idea hit him. He touched the incoming obsidian for only a second while his hands glowed a bright green.
Suddenly the entire area that they were in shakes and rumbles as it changes completely with the obsidian cylinder changing shape and surrounding the people present.
The obsidian shifts its shape and becomes a three-room house made completely out of obsidian.
Javal glances around the room that he was in hoping his plan worked as he let go of the wall he was touching.
He looked around and there next to him in the same room was Gwendolyn and Vail, a little confused but fine as he turned around to see two doors one in front of them and one behind them.
He hears a a loud surprised shout coming from the room behind him; he recognizes Nadia’s voice and assumes Mori’s in there as well.
He quickly runs to the door in front of the room and opens it seeing the evil so-called ashen father and opens his mouth sending a large cone of ice straight towards him.

Mid-approach, the man explodes into a column of obsidian barrelling towards her. All she could do was shout out “Mori!” before turning to run. Mori, the ever capable, understood exactly what her meowster was beckoning for, slow down this giant block before it squishes everyone. Two Juts of obsidian came out from around the rear entrance, meeting… Javals new luxury mountain estate? (1) Regardless, they struck into the corners where the obsidian was strongest and attempted to slow it down so those within wouldn’t be hurt. Gwendolyn Blunk. First she was going to be squished by some pillar of obsidian, now she was in an honestly quite tastefully decorated pitch black obsidian abode? Was this…. The afterlife? Nope, Javal and Vail were still here, and either Javal was breathing ice on Lunala, or they were still fighting. She could hear Mori giggling with Nadia in the next room over, so time to get back to it she supposed. She wasn’t picking up much information about whatever spell that man had used, so it was only a hope that this whole construct wouldnt be collapsing upon them all imminently. Strike whilst the iron is hot and all that nonsense. Once Javal had closed his icy mouth, she called the Arkanon towards her, leaned into the door, and opened fire. Three blasts of pure magic erupted from the tubes, now illuminating the glassy black confines of the structure with a hot blue glow.(2) With a gesture of her hands along the handle of the magical contraption, she inscribed the sigil for magic missle. “You know, Ashman, you shouldn’t throw stones in obsidian houses.” She says, giving a quick smirk at javal for a stupid joke she thought only he could appreciate. The tubes glow further intensified, ready to strike in only a few seconds. (3) With that, she retreated back through the door, taking cover behind a wall and a tasteful end table. She could only hope that it wasn’t in fact the beginning of her end….table. Alvina can't open doors by herself, and such, remains seated on Mori's back. 1 Mold Earth to slow the oncoming wall of obsidian 2 Arkanon phase 1, 3 shots 3 Charge Magic Missle >The rest

As Vail walks over to the waist high cover, his eyes widen in surprise as a massive cylinder of obsidian emerges from the censor, flying towards Javal and the rest of the party. His eyes close as he raises his gauntlets in reflex, hoping that their magic properties work both ways. The thought was a fleeting one, not because of the impact, but rather the lack thereof. His eyes opened to find that Javal’s quick thinking had come to their aid. He quickly takes in his surroundings, realizing several rooms had been made out of the black stone with him, Javal, and Gwen being positioned in the closest room to their adversary.
By the time he takes his surroundings, Javal is already charging forth towards their adversary once more. Vail quickly forms a dagger of light[1] in his right hand, holding it for when he has a clear shot at his adversary. A quick thought passes through his mind as he steps forward, remembering the origin point of the Father’s attack. “The censor, that’s where the attack emerged from, keep an eye on it.” he calls out before Javal can reach the door. Hopefully the stone walls served as an adequate sound buffer, the less information their adversary knows the better.
Vail follows behind Gwen, staying silent as she delivers a corny joke. Somehow, almost being turned into a pancake by stone had killed his sense of humor, or rather his capacity to humor bad jokes.
Offensive actions: [1] Purity Bolt held in dagger form.
