Javal cheered on happily, he was glad to see that his quick-thinking hydro maneuvers worked in defending him and Nadia from the maid’s oncoming attacks. He was honestly expecting her fire attacks to have some sort of heat-seeking aspect to them due to her adept use of fire magic that the fiendish maid had displayed so far.
“Fiendish maid, give it up. Your fire magic is no match for me and my water magic. It is a complete foil for you just to give up now and you shall be quickly brought to justice. Just make this easy on all of us here, surrender and accept your fate”, Javal yells up to the dangling maid grabbing onto the windowsill.
‘Darn the sea tendrils missed her and they’ve been destroyed”, Javal thought to himself as his water tendrils dissipated due to the extreme heat exuding from the maid.
He then quickly turns to face Nadia, “Nadia watch out”, and jumps in front of the oncoming mace smash from the new foe, a burly man with a mace. Javal jumps back up to a standing position; he then places his hands on his sword and suddenly his entire body becomes covered with vines, plants, and tiny thorns all over. Javal used this spell to try to get some distance from the goon and stop his incoming grab towards his katana. He then quickly grabs his katana from his waist and unsheathes it.
Javal yells over to his retainer who is now behind him facing the maid, “Nadia it seems that these two criminals will not listen to reason. It is time for us to get serious, let’s finish this battle up quickly and return to help Vail and Gwendolyn.
“As for you”, Javal says now facing the burly mace-wielding fellow, “It’s just me and Nadia here but that’s all that’s needed to bring wicked foes like you to justice. Get ready to face the righteous power of justice and surrender in the face of my strength”.
Nadia is now looking straight at the maid from earlier than she aims and fires an arrow made of light courtesy of the ray bow.
Javal holds his blade with both of his hands in a fighting stance and says, “You wanted to take this blade earlier from me right? Well let me show you what this honorable sword can do, come on Thesmos”, and charges at the burly mace fellow and swings his katana horizontally at the fiendish man.

Vail grits his teeth as his shots disarm his ranged adversary but fails to finish him off. Luckily, the fellblood was still in Gwen’s range and seemingly unarmed, all he had to do was finish the old man. “I’m fine, just focus on finishing that bastard. Worry about J later.” He yells back to Gwen as he watches the old man.
The geezer's distracted gaze served to be his undoing, as he took the impact of multiple spell shots before being knocked to the ground. Vail considers showing some mercy, seeing as his adversary was on his last legs, until the decrepit man shouted to the sky. Storm clouds quickly formed across the sky and shadows began to litter the ground as oncoming debris came down over a large area. Vail's Expression darkens as continues moving towards his foe.
Don’t care about collateral damage huh? Fine, time to go to sleep, old kook.
He rushes forth, preparing to finish the downed old man, when vines suddenly erupt from the ground, restraining the pyromancer. That made his job a bit easier, seeing as he could attack without fear of retaliation. He delivers two quick blows[1] as he dashes to the geezer, one to the face to stun the weary adversary and another to his chest. As his second punch lands, he maneuvers to the old man's back, grabbing onto the back of the fool's neck with one hand and grabbing his pants at the waist with the other. He lifts the frail man, presenting him with the consequences of his actions as his body is used as an umbrella to shield Vail from the raining hell he has unleashed.

The fellblood glances over their shoulder just in time to see the barrage of incoming attacks which impact their body and sends them rolling across the roof and over the edge. They disappear from line of sight, but Gwen would hear the sounds of splintering wood coming from where the fellblood was knocked off the roof. Whether or not they were alive was yet to be seen.
From behind her Gwen would also hear the sounds of metal clashing and shouting from the opposite side of the Dancer’s Den. At least one of the voices is familiar as it belongs to their unaccounted for companion, Javal.
While Gwen takes a moment to catch her breath and survey the scene from above the rooftop of the Dancer’s Den, she would see the perpetually falling ash from the clouds of soot spewed forth by Mount Drakolt in the distance seems to be growing in intensity. The air stings the lungs with the acrid scent of smoke and visibility was slowly growing worse. If the party was going to attempt to pursue the fleeing horse by following its tracks, they needed to get a move on, and quickly.
Back on the ground, Mori’s whip finds purchase on its target as the cackling madman seems to have lost any wits he may have had left before the fight even began. He does not completely succumb to his demise though, and through the pain of the thorns digging into his body, he reaches up a hand and calls the flames from his ring of fire back to him to set the vines ablaze.
His final attempts at freeing himself do not buy him any time to react to Vail’s onslaught of blows, one to his face knocking out teeth that were already crooked and loose to begin with and another to his equally crooked spine. Fear glints in the old man’s eyes for the first time as he quivers in Vail’s grasp and is forced to face the rain of fire he himself called into being. The old man’s body is pelted with the falling stones, the fabric of his cloak burning and the stench of seared flesh rising into the air. What once was a jackal of a man cackling for the end of days was reduced to a battered corpse in mere moments.
The rain of stones does not stop though, and while Gwen managed to push herself out of range and Vail had found unconventional means of taking cover, Mori was still exposed to the hail of flaming rocks. A scattering of sharp rock shards that burn and sear on contact strike her from above and threaten to continue to do so unless she takes cover immediately.
On the other side of the Dancer’s Den, the conflict between Javal, Nadia, the thug with the mace, and the maid continues.
The thug’s mace comes swinging in towards Nadia only for Javal to throw himself in harm’s way. Luckily Javal’s armor takes the brunt of the hit, absorbing the impact and preventing any serious damage to his body. The sprouting vegetation then tears at the man’s hand as he reaches to try and disarm Javal. He draws his hand back sharply just as Javal’s sword slices into his side, cutting deep through his shoddy leathers.
“Agh! You’ll pay for that.” Staggering back, he holds the wound and glares at the man, adjusting his grip on his mace in his other hand.
As the maid tries to clamber back into the window of the Dancer’s Den second story room, her heat cloak dissipated by Javal’s earlier water attack, it’s pretty obvious that she is not built for parkour. This gives Nadia the opening she needs to fire an arrow formed of light right into her back.
The maid yelps in pain as she’s struck and her grip on the window sill slips. She tumbles down from the second story and lands heavily on the ground, taking another brunt of damage that knocks the wind out of her lungs.
With his ally down and himself now outnumbered against someone with range and another utilizing magic, the thug considers his dwindling number of options. Attacking wasn’t working, fleeing would get him an arrow in the back. He seems to concede his defeat for a moment, lowering his weapon and hanging his head in silence. Then he steps back towards the maid on the ground.
“We did what the Fathers asked of us. We will be rewarded in the end.”
He raises his mace and with an over the head swing smashes it down into the maid’s ribcage. She gasps and flops limply against the ground.
He then looks at Javal. “I won’t give you the satisfaction. All will burn, and we will be reborn from the ashes.”
With finality in his words, he lets out a long breath as smoke starts to waft up from under his cloak. Suddenly, the man ignites in a blazing column of fire, any screams are drowned out by the roaring inferno that consumes his flesh and reduces him to ashes. His mace clatters across the ash covered cobblestone, coming to rest next to the still body of the lifeless maid.

“No” Gwendolyn mutters as she twirls through the air. The maniac on the ground was bending the fire around himself, and her current target had fallen off the roof. “NO. GODS BE DAMNED NO! FUCK!” She shouts as both targets become lost to her for the moment. Swinging the rapidly spinning Arkanon around she tosses it to the dim sky to send herself floating the opposite way. It was cathartic, much like throwing that lamp at her fathers painting back in her youth. Why did things never go right, so many people were trying to get in her way at the moment, it was frustrating to no end. Her back hit the ground and she came to a stop, waving her hand to dispell the levitation effect. (1) She laid there, letting the ash fall softly on her face as she stared at the inky sky illuminated only by the city and the mountain. Her guard had been down. Wolfe’s ever calm demeanor was emanating from the ring he had given her. Distracting. “Vail. The fellblood got away. Injured. Mori, Cover us.” Gwen mutters sullenly, irritation seeping through her every word. After a second of no cover, she barks “NOW”. Useless feline. A pained grunt could be heard from the maid as she steps away from the ashes of the crazed man. Mori reaches deep into the earth below and pulls out a makeshift tent from two large slabs of stone, enough to fit the group whilst protecting them from the rocks falling around them. (2) Gwen sits up, lifting her skirt a smidge to inspect her injured. As she does, she notices the blood trickling from Moris forehead, and the burn to Vails hand. Remorse only mixed with further irritation at her own actions. “That… didn’t go well. Forgive my impertinence Mori, It won’t happen again. Vail, are you alright? I heard Javal fighting nearby, if he isn’t here soon we should go make sure his side of things isn’t going south.”
She tries to stand, with her maids assistance, and with little success. Collapsing back on her ass, she grunts softly. To be this injured and no closer to their goal, failure. Like her impertinence, it wouldn’t happen again. Her hands reached out, fingers assuming quick and queer positions as small sigils formed in the air before her. A flurry of protection magics being cast, surrounding her with a soft, electric blue haze. (3/4/5) Alvina, ever the inquisitive and devious mind, dug around in his thralls pack whilst the crowd was distracted. Potions, smelling salts, Aha! A small collection of explosives. She takes one of the small pebbles, swallowing it with glee, before picking up the hook of a glass ball. (6/7) Oh what a nefarious plot she had in mind, as the invisible cat dashed out of the makeshift shelter, to search for the poor injured fellblood. Leaping too and fro, back to the last known location and investigating the other side of the landing where she had seen him fall. As javal stabbed the burly man with the mace. He jumped back to avoid any close range retaliation. He was thankful that the sprouting spiky foliage was able to block the mace from grabbing his Katana. Javal had already had his blade taken and used against him before so he would really like to avoid a dangerous situation like that again. Nadia sprinted to get closer to the maid who had fallen to the floor due to her earlier light arrow attack. She had her bow aimed as she stopped running and was about a couple feet behind her. She waited to see what the fiendish maid would do. His blade dug into the man’s side he was glad that made it through and was about to charge back at the burly man when suddenly a dangerous situation turned into an extreme one and he stopped in his tracks. Javal was confused as the fiendish burly man started to go on a weird villain monologue about sacrifice but soon his eyes went wide and he screamed in horror. He sprints to attack the man for his brutality but finds himself too late. Nadia and Javal are the only two left in the alley now.
Javal grits his teeth, “This is what’s happening to people for the sake of these ashen fathers. Well this is enough for me to crush whoever is doing this. I promise you fiendish fools your deaths won’t be in vain”.
Javal and Nadia then sprint out the alley following the earlier noises of battle hoping that was where Gwendolyn and Vail were.

As the ring of fire dissipates around him, Vail slowly moves his way towards Gwen’s maid, still carrying the lifeless corpse of the crazed geezer above him. He looks up just in time to see Mori take a rock square to the head, an action that causes the numbness of his right arm to travel downward for the briefest of moments. Before he can assist her however, Gwen arrives and immediately starts barking orders at her wounded servant. He waits patiently as the wounded maid forms a shelter of rock, shielding them for the hellfire still raining down. With a proper shield overhead, he finally drops the charred husk of his former adversary. He looks down at the corpse with a cold expression. Madmen were more common in Darkveil than most places, but this was different; something bigger than a personal delusion.
He faces Mori as Gwen begins to inspect her injuries. "Thanks for the assist, sorry you had to take that blow for it." There is a considerable change in Gwen's tone as the wounded woman addresses the two of them. He glances at the bubbled flesh on his hand at its mention, both thankful for its numbness and annoyed by the wound's inconvenience. "I'm fine, this city has done a lot worse to me." His eyes dart to the woman as she struggles to stand. "You, on the other hand, need some rest. Once this hellfire stops, I'll look for Javal, then we'll assess how to move forward."
He stares out across the lifeless street as the rocks continue to fall. "You've been a bit rash, to put it bluntly. Our enemy is an elusive one and we are operating on very limited information. Your injuries thus far are due to your overeagerness to deal with these kidnappings despite our lack of knowledge." He lets out a light sigh before he continues. "Believe me, I understand your frustrations. This place was… IS the closest thing I ever had to a home; this impacts me more than any of us. I ask that you act a bit more cautious as we continue our pursuit, for the sake of the victims, if not for me." With his thoughts finally put into proper words, he turns to face Gwen with an inquisitive look. "That being said, I have doubts that you're operating off of hunches alone. You chose the right door in the Den after all, and you didn't ask any questions that would lead you to that particular door. You clearly have some way of getting info outside of yourself and your maid. Perhaps your hidden informant can lead us in the right direction."
Before he can get a reply from the veiled woman, the sound of rushing footsteps reaches his ears. He adjusts his stance, ready to face whoever is approaching their temporary haven.
Free action: Moving to Mori and taking cover under the stone shelter. Discarding Goon 3's corpse.

Raising the stone structure was a good call as the rain of flaming rocks continues to shower the immediate area until there is a final rumble and the spell comes to an end. The damage to the street and the surrounding buildings is pretty bad as the stones knocked off shingles and left scorch marks across the cobblestone. Luckily no civilians were caught in the fiery meteor shower, but that same could not be said for the pummeled body Vail touted over his head.
Heading down the street, Alvina doesn’t have to search for very long before finding the ruddy-skinned fellblood laying on their back on a pile of broken crates in the back alleyway. They groan in pain, alive, but not going anywhere for the moment. They had no weapon, nor had they shown any evidence of being a spell caster. For now, they were vulnerable.
Javal and Nadia race around the back of the building, unhindered by any more obstacles since the two threats neutralized themselves, and rounding the corner to join the others. They can see the destruction from the fight on the other side of the Dancer’s Den as well as their allies who had taken cover under the stone slabs. Overall, the group had taken some hits, but weren't too terribly injured.
As far as the group can tell, there are no more immediate threats in the area. However, their objective was only gaining more and more distance from them thanks to the distraction caused by the fight. The group still needs to recover as well which would only eat up more precious seconds.
Ash continues to fall from the overhead smoke clouds. Their chances of following the trail were getting increasingly slimmer, but they still had at least one person they could question for answers on what was going on and perhaps where that horse was running to.
Wound Tracking Gwen: 1 major wound (maul to the knee), 1 minor wound (fall damage) Javal: 1 minor wound (fall damage) Nadia: 1 minor wound (fall damage) Vail: 1 minor wound (burnt hand) Mori: 1 major wound (Meteor Shower damage - earth and fire)

Patience, Caution, and Discretion. He was right. She had been looking at this situation through the eyes of an adventurer instead of those of a practiced noblewoman. It was beyond her understanding as to why this particular set of circumstances was leading her down this path, or perhaps it was the culmination of the last several months of actions that had led her here. Either way, it was time to change things up. “Thank you Vail. I will take your advice into consideration, and I will ask your forgiveness too once we’re out of here. As for the informant” She says, looking sternly at the building she now knew the man lay opposite of. “Let’s just call it womans intuition.” A quick flick of her wrist wrote the sigil to repair her knee, at least for now. (1) It would almost certainly ache for weeks after this, but walkable was all she needed. “Mori, I’m sorry about earlier, I’ll make it up to you. Right now, I need two things from you.” She lowers her tone, in case other forces may be listening. The description of her request falls to extensive use of Mori’s Mold Earth ability. Two huts, about 10 feet apart from each other, each with a chair inside. Walls thick enough to muffle any shouts from within. Simple enough, considering one hut was already constructed. (2) The second part of Gwendolyns request was slightly more morbid. Take the corpse of the maid off the street, and place it in one of the interrogation rooms. Hands and feet are to be bound in earth, and a rock is to be tied firmly on the womans lower back.(3) Gwendolyn took off, giving a brief “Hey” To Nadia and Javal as they entered the area. Alvina whispers into the mans mind. “Shhhh, you’re quite lucky. My subordinate is coming to give you medical attention. Stay still, or else.” A soft groan led Gwen to the correct spot, and upon finding the man, and climbing to his position, offered a gesture of open palms. She spotted a floating ornament on the rooftop prancing away into the distance, back to the rest of the party. Probably a stress image or something, whatever. “I’m going to bring you back to my healer. If you try anything, know the cannon that shot you down will be aimed at you the entire time.” Assuming all cooperation, She brings him back to the room Mori prepared opposite the womans corpse. She places him on the chair, and gives the signal to Mori to bind his hands and legs as well, and to create a small bump of rock in the crook of his back. “Great. Now that everything is settled, I am Lady Gwentillae. We have your maid accomplice in the room opposite you. She had died in the fight, but we will bring her back. Unfortunately, The gods demand balance, and one of you must return to the afterlife. We’ll say, whoever tells us everything we want to know. You have a bomb on your person, I’ll let you figure out where. One wrong move and this whole room will join that pile of ash and bones over there. Speak wisely, and you’ll make it.” Slowly, she turns to walk out, bidding Mori to stay and keep an eye on him with whoever wishes to interrogate. Entering the opposite room, She sighs. The wonders of modern magic allowed such glorious tactics to be utilized not only in the field, but moments after the battles conclusion. Her hands clawed at the air, tearing bright glowing sigils and lines from the ether, weaving the soul of this woman back into her body. (4) “That’s better isn’t it. Sorry for the accommodation, can’t be too careful these days. Know that on your person is an explosive, reactive to heat. One wrong move and it’s back to whatever afterlife you had been experiencing up until now. We have your accomplice the fellblood in another room nearby, and unfortunately, the gods demand balance. One soul wrenched from death, means the afterlife has an opening. We’ll be sending the least cooperative member of your squad back as payment. Unless of course, you enjoyed your stay that much. I am Lady Gwentillae, and I am eager to see who wins.” All but one of the cards were in their hands right now, and the next few minutes could mean success or failure in the largest of ways. It was nice being back in control. Javal and Nadia come to the other side of the Dancer’s den into the alley where he heard the earlier noises of people fighting. He and Nadia came armed and ready to assist their compatriots against whatever they were fighting. However, when they enter the alley they found the scene to be in a scorched state and Gwendolyn and Vail speaking and carrying a red fellblood around. Javal and Nadia put their weapons away and greet the two with smiles. It looked to Javal that someone had cast a fire spell, perhaps something like the mad maid that he had fought only moments ago.
Javal then says, “Sorry for jumping out of the wrong window. I thought I’d be able to meet with you guys right away but I was preoccupied by the burly man with the mace and the mad fire maid that we fought inside of the Dancer’s Den. They both died, the man killed the maid and the man killed himself with fire. How about you fellows though is everyone alright what happened while I was busy? Were you attacked by more foes? It appears that their plan to stop us from catching up with the horseback rider was successful".
Javal then follows Gwendolyn confident that the group could find the information they’re looking for from the fellblood.

Vail simply shrugs when Gwen replies with a vague answer in regard to her informant. He couldn’t blame her; he hadn’t disclosed anything about his other half after all, despite the possibility of it coming out during that battle if things had gone south. Even though they were allies, it was not as if they were required to be fully transparent with each other. He breathed a sigh of relief as Javal and his companion showed up relatively unharmed, barring the bruising likely caused by their reckless descent to street level. Their reunion is cut short however, as Gwen was on the move, clearly having formed some manner of plan as they waited. The rain of fire had passed, and she seemingly had some manner of idea where their runaway sniper had wandered off to. Vail lets her lead the way as he reaches into his coat and withdraws the wooden box from earlier. His left immediately grabs the small vial of salve, pouring it onto burnt right before bandaging the wound [1]. While he couldn't feel the burn, he knew leaving it untreated could hinder its function. He was about to put the kit away when considers the injuries of his companions. As Mori begins her construction, Vail approaches Gwen, noticing the wound on her leg in the process of healing. The woman had seemingly forgotten the tumble she had taken in her hasty escape, as her spell had seemingly ignored the various bruises adorning her. "Hold still for a moment, it's better that we address even these minor wounds now before they start to add up." He hands some wrappings to the woman, while also assisting her with addressing wounds on her back [2]. With her wounds properly addressed, looks back to Javal and Nadia as he leaves her to her plan. “I’ll leave the interrogation to you. It’s in everyone’s best interest if I'm not around for the nasty bits.” He stops Javal and Nadia in their tracks as they begin to follow Gwen, pointing to his medical kit and then back to them. “I’ll save you the lecture I gave to Gwen, just try to be more careful from now on, okay?” He dresses their wounds [3][4] as they wait, his healing serving the secondary purpose of keeping the jovial fellblood occupied. While Javal may make for pleasant company, his carefree attitude would more likely hamper the interrogation process rather than help. With the pairs’ wounds cleaned and bandaged, he gives them a glare as he rises to his feet. “Oh and don’t go around talking about me like I'm some sort of charitable healer. I have an image to maintain, got it?”
Vail’s walks over to the nearest building, blending into the shadows as he leans against a support [5]. Despite the chaotic circumstances, his mind was somewhat at ease. Things might not have gone smoothly, but at least everyone was still alive. He had his doubts about Gwen’s interrogation tactics, considering multiple of their opponents had chosen to self-immolate rather than surrender, but she was free to do as she pleased as long as he wasn’t a part of it.

The fellblood winces as they’re moved from the broken crates to the makeshift interrogation chair. While moving them, Gwen would notice that their body is unusually warm to the touch.
After the fellblood is restrained, they roll their neck a bit while Gwen gives them the whole spiel about what is going to happen next. They scoff and shake their head, but look at Javal and Nadia as Gwen leaves to make good on her plan to revive the maid.
“Don’t waste your time,” he says to the pair. “You have so little of it left, but you still have a chance to be saved, to be reborn like us.”
As they speak, their skin begins to blister and crack. They breathe heavier and smoke starts to lift off of their body.
“You want to see the truth for yourselves? Go on then, deliver yourselves to the mouth of the beast. The others will welcome you and add your souls to the pyre.”
They grimace and cough as their flesh spontaneously combusts in the same fashion that Javal and Nadia bore witness to in their combat with the mace wielding man. Seems that Vail’s suspicion that these folk were not concerned with their own survival was an accurate assumption.
Meanwhile, the maid opens her eyes and looks around confused before setting her sights on Gwen. Her expression darkens as she realizes she is unable to move freely. Her expression only gets more sour and indignant the longer Gwen speaks and when the woman is done, the maid spits at her feet.
“Save your pretentious preaching. The gods demand balance? You have no idea. Your gods have been dead for thousands of years. The Fathers– the true Fathers– have shown us the truth. Soon, fire will burn all of Charon. Our ashes will become fertile ground for new life, cleansed of all the bloodshed, corruption, and scars that the elves and their false monarchy have left on the land. We will be reborn into a renewed paradise.”
This woman did not appear to be that old, nor did she look the part of a crazed cultist. Passing her on the street, she would have blended into the crowd as your average citizen. Yet the gleam in her eye suggested that she believed in every word she was saying with fanatical conviction.
“You should join us. Go and give yourselves to the earth’s boiling blood, surrender your soul to a real deity with real power.”
She shifts a bit against the stone restraints, and like with the mace wielding goon and the injured fellblood, her skin starts to blister and the stench of burning flesh wafts past Gwen’s nose.

“You’re right Vail, best to be safe than sorry. I thank you. Whomever these people are, theyre out for blood. Having us all in top shape will ensure victory.” She says, looking over at the still bleeding Mori. She raises her hand, and another golden sigil appears before her. Pressing it softly in Moris direction, the magic closes the wound on her head, and offers a noticable relief from the pain she had been feeling. The classic smile returns to the ever-steady feline-kins face, and her ears perk back up. Gwen listens to the doomsaying that the two spiel, before they begin to magically self-immolate. There was not much she could do, other than watch in horror as their only true sources of intelligent went up in flames. “Shit Shit Shit NO! Gods be DAMNED.” She shouted, running from one to the other as both fell apart. “FUCK” followed by the sound of metal hitting stone could be heard from the maids interrogation room. “Calm yourself Child” Alvina spoke in her mind, almost irritated at this petulant outburst from his volatile servant. “They already told you where to go. Mouth of the Beast, Earths boiling blood. These imbeciles are worshiping Mount Drakolt.” It was as if his words were her own thoughts. She collected herself, fixing her skirt and brushing her frazzled hair back into her ponytail. “I think our rider is heading towards the volcano. They think it’s some kind of god. We should go soon.” She says as she steps out of the interrogation room, prim and proper if only a bit ashy. Javal looks to the fellblood cultist and says in a motivating tone, “Just give it up, already a vile fiend let us save the people who you are hurting. Let us bring you, villains, to justice and stop this nonsense at once”.
As the fellblood begins to crackle and burn, Javal panics confused about what he should do and how he could save them. He raises his hands about to use any water spell he could think of but as soon as the idea lights in his head it's already too late the fellblood burns alive like their other compatriots. They do not before leaving Javal and Nadia with strange cryptic words about some sort of new god.
“Damn it”, Javal punches the ground and yells, “Ugh we couldn’t save them from themselves first that maniac mace man, and now this. These poor people have been victims of some sort of brainwashing. We have to take down whatever is making this happen. We can't let this happen anymore there could be people dying at this point we have to bring these people to justice”.
Javal then turns to face Gwendolyn, “Alright anybody has a way up to Mount Drakolt a horse, wagon, or something or will we have to give chase on foot” Javal questions.

With his companions occupied with their interrogation, Vail was given a brief moment to relax and reflect on everything that had transpired since returning to his home. This wasn’t normal gang activity, the opponents they had faced so far were far too varied to be a part of any family. The mace thug and fellblood ranger would fit right in, maybe even that maid as some undercover agent, but that geezer would never be accepted in any legitimate criminal organization. His actions were far too rash; the collateral damage caused by his reckless use of magic would reflect poorly on any family. Another, more pressing factor, was their lack of self-preservation. Your typical gang member was driven by greed and power more than anything, and while delusions of grandeur may sometimes blind them, they are at least smart enough to know that their wealth was worthless if they weren’t alive to use it. His earlier suspicions are confirmed as smoke begins to leak through the cracks of the improvised interrogation cells. Shortly after, both Gwen and Javal emerge from the stone shelters, doing their best to contain their frustrations. He remains in the shadows as he replies to the rest of the party. “I see your prisoners weren’t the most cooperative, at least we have a destination now.” He sighs briefly before continuing. “Listen, this isn’t some gang we are fighting. These people are willing to risk anything to stop us and they could be any average citizen as well. Keep your eyes open and stay on guard, the minute someone reveals themself to be an enemy, don’t hesitate to strike them down; they surely won’t for you.”
His statement is then interrupted by the fellblood as he asks for transportation. Vail shrugs as he looks to his companions. “Don’t look at me, you’re the rich foreigners here.”

As the maid burns, the party is faced with the dilemma of getting to their next destination post haste. Mount Drakolt was the goal, and perhaps there they would find out what these people were really up to.
Traversing the wilds of the Ash Lands beyond the city limits would be a pain without any horse or wagon to ride on. The group's solution comes from a curious Layla who steps out of the Dancer's Den after the ruckus in the alleyway dies down.
The tavern owner does not ask what is going on or what the group plans to do. She's better off not knowing, but she does allow the group to borrow a small horse drawn wagon from her, with no delusions that it would be returned. Why she does this, she doesn't say. It could be because of her familiarity with Vail, or recognizing Gwen's influence, or being charmed by Javal's earlier performance. Or perhaps she just wanted to get the destructive adventurers as far away from her establishment as possible before another fight could burn it to the ground.
Either way, the party had a means to get to Mount Drakolt.
Not wasting any time, the party can quickly depart and charge through the city streets and out into the ash covered landscape around the base of the volcano.
The trail left by the horse that fled earlier was nearly indiscernible at this point as the ash continues to fall. Luckily, if the horse was a normal animal, it couldn't maintain a full on gallop for long. They might not be able to catch up before it arrives at its destination, but they could at least be gain enough ground to ensure they do not lose the trail.
The trip takes some time, giving the party a chance to prepare for whatever comes next while riding in the back of the wagon as it rattles and bounces along the cracked earth. The air is stagnant and thick with the stench of phosphorus and brimstone the closer they get to the large volcano. Even from a distance, the underside of the black plumes of smoke are lit with an angry crimson light from the wide mouth at the volcano's peak.
As the group starts to climb upwards along the increasingly steep slope, there's a few small tremors that quake the ground. The horse snorts in protest, not wanting to get any closer as its instincts tell it to flee. It seems like the party may need to proceed on foot at this rate, but at least there are still some footprints in the ash that go further upwards but then veering to the side to not go directly to the top of the volcano.
Looking ahead in the direction that the trail veers off to, there appears to be a ledge sticking out of the side of the slope framed by sharp jutting boulders. Following along this path, the party is brought to the underside of the ledge where the tracks seemingly disappear into a solid wall of stone. Another stronger tremor shakes the ground around them, sending a scattering of loose rocks clattering down the slope just past them. It was not safe to linger here for too long.
