As Nephele listened to C'Leena's words, she couldn't help but grow a bit dazed. It was strange, as she couldn't even imagine a world as described, much less one beyond it. She knew what her eyes looked like and she loved stargazing whenever she could, but to imagine a world beyond where that was everywhere along with other planetary lifeforms? It gave her the chills, and she unconsciously lifted her fingertips to the corner of her eye.
"That sounds...wonderful." She whispered in awe, mostly to herself. Because truly, it did. Nephele was enamored by the idea of a world without magic, a world where she would probably never prosper. A world so wildly different that she couldn't even begin to imagine it was making her need to move around grow. Nephele smiled wistfully at the thought of something so unreachable, finding the idea beautiful.
The woman shook her head, snapping herself out of the daydream. "While I've never seen you in practice, I can tell by listening to you that you're an excellent doctor. Whether that mean you excel in your methods of healing physically or emotionally, I absolutely believe you're great at what you do."
When switching the conversation to herself, Nephele hummed, wondering how to start. "My mother was a water nymph that had me in the Land of Wonder, and she raised me there for the first five years of my life there. I'm actually unsure how old I am on Charon, but I estimate that I'm around 22." Nephele paused during their walk to crouch down, staring at a poppy with scrutinizing eyes. She pokes it, before standing up and continuing, unsatisfied. "I remember almost nothing of it, but we moved to the Crescent Isles not long after due to her love of exploring. She tried to wander, I followed, but I always felt attached to the Isles."
As she continues, Nephele repeats this process a few times, often pausing to poke, caress, and/or stare at a flower before returning to C'Leena's side. She unintentionally returns to her side a little closer each time, trying not to be too overbearing but liking the closer proximity.
"I've never met my father, but I suspect that he's some other faefolk like my mother." Nephele frowned suddenly, a soft but still palpable face as she recalled her mother's condescending laugh. Love her as she might, Callythia was no kind creature. "My mother loved to tease me though, saying things like she was more than 100% sure he was human because of how attached I grew to people. Teased me 'til her dying day, when she fell ill the day I turned sixteen."

"Attachment is rarely a bad thing, even if it bites you in the ass. Either you get somebody worth keeping around, be it as a friend or in a relationship, or it goes wrong and you learn from your mistakes. Mistakes are truly the only way to advance. Things going wrong highlight places where we can improve. Without things breaking, we wouldn't know what to fix."
C'Leena lightly bumps Nepheles shoulder with her own. "Your words mean the world, Neph. Having said that, you still should take better care of yourself, or you may have to see me work first hand. I may be a prosthetist, but I still have medical knowledge under my belt."
"I am sorry about your mother, though," She says in a gentle tone. C'Leena was no counselor or therapist, so she wasn't entirely sure what to say, so she opted to say nothing at all. Her words really did mean a lot to C'Leena. She always tried her best, and despite her not seeing her best first hand, it's still nice to hear.
After about the fourth time Nephele ducks down to inspect a poppy, with C'Leena stopping and waiting for her each time, she asks whats been on her mind.
"What is it you're looking for? You look like you're hunting for a very specific poppy in a field of thousands," She kneels down with her, looking from the poppy to Nepheles inquisitive eyes. C'Leena isn't entirely sure whether or not she's wrong or not, but they almost seem to sparkle just a bit more than before. Interesting..
"Would you believe that I've never seen nature before I came here? Not to say it doesn't exist, but where I grew up, there wasn't really much in the way of parks or anything of the sort. I knew of trees, some types of flowers and grass, and that's about it." She comments, looking around at the open expanse surrounding them.
It's fascinating to see so much emotion in featureless eyes. They almost seem a touch brighter, but that may just be due to proximity. She seems filled with awe at her surroundings, and she really is. She's still stunned and almost upset that she never got to see her own homes beauty. Being here has unlocked a love for nature that she never had before.

Not expecting the nickname, Nephele found herself hiding her blush again, her hair falling in her face. She wondered how C’Leena was so comfortable with her words. She had never been called anything but her name before, but she found that, for better or worse, she kind of liked it. Nephele rushed out a gentle “I’ll try”, so soft it was nearly intelligible. She then reached her hands up to her cheeks, rubbing them as she tried to fight the embarrassment.
Opting for dodging around the topic of her mother, Nephele eased into the next question easily. “I told you I’d find a replacement flower for you right? I want to make sure I get the perfect one. Any old one won’t do.”
Nephele pauses to stare in surprise, giving C’Leena a quick onceover before smiling in infatuation. “Never? I could t even imagine never seeing nature save for a few occasions, though I will admit that you don’t quite look like you’ve been outside of more urban areas. I could be wrong though.”
Then, the nymph had an idea. A wholly ineffective one in hindsight, but hey, if C’Leena was comfortable then so was she. She was evidently a bit shy, but Nephele pretended that she wasn’t still flustered and stood to face C’Leena, just a few inches shorter than her without the hair that billowed in the wind.
“Could you face me? I want to check something.” Now that she had an idea, Nephele’s focus had suddenly sharpened as she stares up into C’Leena’s brighter eyes. It was a strangely determined look, but she softened after a moment, clarifying: “I would like to see what size poppy I need to get for your hair.“

C'Leena found herself watching the Fey as they grew flustered once again. It seemed awfully easy to fluster her. She wasn't having fun with it, not at all. Anybody saying otherwise was a liar and a fraud.
That is so adorable she quietly mouthed to herself before speaking up after she switched the topic. "Yeah, I never really had the time to go explore. Always working, you know how it is. However, my sister, as I said, threw me at a piano instructor so I learnt the piano instead of exploration. Does this place have pianos? I'm fairly sure it does but I can't be quite certain."However, during C'Leenas musing, Nepheles request catches her off guard, and her reasoning throws her even more off kilter internally. For the first time in a long, long time, C'Leena blushes right back."I-er.. Ehh-" C'Leena continues to make various confused and flustered sounds, but obliges anyway upon seeing her determined look. "I mean, you don't need to! I did say you didn't owe me anything-" She complains clearly half heartedly."At least when you blush it blends in," she quietly complains. "And here I am looking like a fucken tradie who worked in the middle of an aussie summer." she continues mumbling. She has a great level of difficulty keeping still, so she sits down and starts idly fiddling with her hands. The light tapping of steel on steel is a curious sound that C'Leena still hasn't quite gotten used to. She used to have prosthetics with actual artificial skin and tissue, so this is a mildly jarring change.
She quickly starts humming a tune foreign to Nephele, but to C'Leena, it's always been a favorite of hers. She grew up listening to Sabaton, despite the band being no less that 150 years old, and has always loved 'Night Witches'. She idly taps her thigh to the beat as she waits for Nephele to find a poppy that checks the boxes unknown to all but her.
C'Leena finds herself watching Nephele during her hunt as C'Leena hums to herself. She doesn't take her eyes off her.

Nephele would be lying if she said that the light blush that rises to C'Leena's cheeks wasn't really cute, and a small sense of satisfaction nearly distracted her from her task. The nymph carefully removed the flower from her own ear and approached C'Leena, holding it up to her ear as she contemplated. Just a bit bigger then. She had gotten closer, their faces around a foot apart as Nephele pretended she wasn't enjoying herself.
"Nonsense. I told you I would find you one, and it needs to be perfect. And hush, you look lovely." With that statement, Nephele meandered to the side, looking back and forth between flowers and C'Leena's face. As she began to hum, Nephele's ears perked up at the sound of music again, soothing her thoughts and helping her focus. After a bit of listening, the nymph responded to the song by whistling, harmonizing with the unfamiliar tune with a higher octave. She didn't recognize the song, but it seemed like C'Leena was awfully familiar with it, and she decided that she liked it, too.
After a minute or so of this, Nephele paused, crouching down for a little longer this time and stopping her whistling. After touching its soft red petals, Nephele decidedly picked the poppy with a moment of contemplation. She compared the one that C'Leena gave her to this one, and smiled in satisfaction. She quickly approached C'Leena, sitting with her in the field carefully and scooting in until their knees knocked together. Oddly enough, her cheeks still hadn't cooled down. "May I?"

This entire interaction has escalated in a way that C'Leena hadn't anticipated. That isn't to say she was against it, however. That does mean that, what C'Leena had considered 'Blushing Heavily' has since been shot out of the dirt. Even more so when Nephele said that C'Leena looked lovely.
"I-what?" She stutters out. she quickly resumes her humming, even if it's entirely out of embarrassment. Nepheles whistling does catch her off guard, however. It may not be 100% perfect, but it's still surprisingly accurate. Color C'Leena impressed.
"You know, if I ever figure out if pianos exist, I'd be more than happy to play for you sometime," She offers, still reeling from before. "I know quite a few songs off the top of my head, as well as the song I was humming a moment ago. That one is called 'Night Witches'. It's easily my favorite song of all time."
As Nephele scoots close in front of C'Leena, she - albeit with ever so slight hesitancy - swiftly moves from sitting down to kneeling down in the same way Nephele is. She looks down at the flower in her hand and back up to her eyes.
"Yeah, uh- okay. Go ahead," she managed out, having lost almost all of her previous confidence. C'Leena isn't able to identify what it is this woman is doing to get her like this. As she's kneeling, she finds herself mapping out constellations in Nephs eyes. That looks like the northern cross she quietly mumbles to herself, almost completely lost.

Nephele hummed, leaning forward to put her plan to work. The idea of having someone play for her made her face light up, and at the proximity C'Leena was in she could just barely catch a glint of light streak across her right eye, mimicking a shooting star.
"I've heard of pianos, never heard them played though." Nephele reached out while she talked, carefully touching C'Leena's hair and tucking it behind her ear. She took great mischievous joy in flustering the other, and without mentioning it she gently poked C'Leena's cheek with a teasing smile. Her smile is different when she's teasing, her nose scrunching up as she returns to her task and giggles through her nose.
C'Leena's hair was on the shorter side, but it would take more than that to discourage her from braiding. She hadn't braided anyone's hair since her mother, her own too wild and freeform to style. And so, as Nephele began to braid the hair above her right ear, weaving the stem through the strands with practiced precision. The blooming flower settled above her right ear much like the other had in Nephele's, but was more secured in place by the fishtail braid she was creating. It suited her well, loving the warmth that came with the red combined with the brown.
"My eyes reflect the night sky." Nephele said suddenly, breaking the silence. "I'm not quite sure who I got them from, but my mother always said that I was blessed with them. She was mostly blind after coming to Charon, unused to the light, so I didn't get them from her."

C'Leena kept still as Nephele buggered about with her hair. She would be lying to herself if she said this wasn't having a profound impact on her. The only other person to really do this was her sister all those years ago.
"I think they do more than reflect, Neph. They're so easy to get lost in," She says, still watching. The shooting star mildly startles her, but in the end, it simply adds to the beauty.
"Rose would've loved you." C'Leena comments absently. She raises a hand and rubs under her eyes as if wiping away tears, however there are none. Despite that, theres something about her face that says that there should be. Her hand absently goes to where C'Leena was poked and smiles lightly. She continues kneeling, as still as she can be, lost both in Nepheles eyes and in her own mind, wondering how Rose and Nephele would have gotten along.
A few moments pass and she speaks. Well, Attempts to is a better way to say it, since the second she opens her mouth, her voice immediately betrays her. She tsk's, annoyed at herself and tries again.
"Remind me to play for you sometime, then. I haven't had the chance to play for a while but I'm sure I can pick it back up easy enough." She pauses, a question floating in her mind.
"Why have you been so kind? You've no reason to. Most of the people I've met, outside of a select few, have been outright dismissive of me for reasons I don't even know." The feeling that C'Leena should be tearing up is almost certain now. Theres a tone in her voice, a quake in her chin that all but screams it. C'Leena doesn't know what brought this on. She's usually not this volatile but something about this woman has her off kilter.

Nephele was starting to wonder if this was becoming a blush-off, because her fingers stutter for a moment and she has to undo a section twice. She hadn't had such an oddly intimate conversation in a while. It was silly that she was losing her composure so frequently. At this point every other thing they would say to each other was an open invitation to start spluttering and flushing. She blamed it on her crappy sleep schedule, maybe Nephele was simply tired.
Well, she would believe that if she didn't feel so wired now. The nymph only hoped that it wasn't obvious that she was trying not to burst into giddy little giggles, biting down on her bottom lip in apparent concentration. Nephele pauses when she hears the tremor in C'Leena's voice, her brow furrowing and watching her in concern. Her lack of tears didn't miss Nephele, but she didn't linger on the thought. The question that follows shortly after makes Nephele look down at her lap.
"...I don't know." Nephele pauses her hand movements in thought, furrowing her brow and frowning. "I genuinely find people interesting. They're all beautiful and complex things, unlike my people where we have very similar morals. Despite this though, it's been a while since I've met someone so...similar to me. Perhaps that's why I like talking to you so much. It's nice to talk to someone that I can understand, even in a small way."
Nephele uses the long left over stem as a twine, tying it at the end of the braid and running a thumb over her work. She forced a smile then, afraid that she was ranting all over again. "Besides, it takes nothing to be kind. I know nothing of political standings or the like, but I can promise you that if more people had a little more empathy we would all be sitting in a field of flowers, swapping tales and learning about each other."
The nymph then adjusted a few stray strands of hair in C'Leena's face, twirling the stray strands as she did. "I think they'd find us beautiful, too, don't you think?" Nephele's voice is distant, as if deep in thought.

C'Leena nods as Nephele speaks, agreeing with her every word. Truly, if more people had any sense of empathy, the world would be so much better. Sadly that isn't the case, however.
Once Nephele finishes, her hand goes up to her hair and feels the braid the poppy has been put in, a smile slowly growing on C'Leenas face. You get the feeling that C'Leena is not making eye contact, despite not being able to tell where exactly she's looking.
Suddenly, C'Leena wraps Nephele in a hug, practically burying her head into the crook of her neck. At some point, her heart has accelerated. When she inhales, a similar whir is heard. Faint, but noticeable. Just how much of C'Leena is still flesh at this point?
Despite the feeling of her prosthetics, her torso and head are actually incredibly warm. Your position allows you to look down C'Leenas back, and her position allows you to see far more of the burns surrounding her eyes absolutely covering her back from her lower shoulder blades down. The fabric of her tank top outlines the webbed form of her burns.
C'Leena at this point is actively fighting the urge to simply break down. This entire situation has thrown her in such a loop where every emotional wall she set up has been utterly shattered and broken down and she cannot explain how or why.
"Thank you," Is truly the only thing she can choke out at this point. She doesn't trust her voice any further, so she simply doesn't speak. Everything that Nephele has done for C'Leena has meant the world to her; Listening to her ramble, going on rambles herself, even doing up her hair.
Perhaps it was C'Leena being scared and homesick that got her like this. She really doesn't know. Her getting thrown into a new world with new rules and new people has been utterly terrifying for her and she wants nothing more than to just go home. She owes Rose a few visits by now.
At that thought, she holds on tighter.

Nephele’s brain almost completely shut down as soon as she was hugged, gasping softly at the force of which she was hugged. C’Leena’s face was almost completely obscured from her view, and the soft little thanks made her freeze. Typically, Nephele wouldn’t care too much about words of gratitude but this? The hug coupled with the calm, cool breeze as the day slowly inched into mid-morning, to this wonderful, new somebody that was abandoned and just missed their someone…Nephele’s heart nearly crumbled to pieces.
Nephele had never been hugged like this before, but it didn’t stop her hands from slowly lifting to gently card through the unbraided strands of brown whilst the other held C’Leena’s waist. She marveled in the strange contrast in temperature in her skin and prosthetic limbs, and she circled her thumb carefully on the small of C’Leena’s back. Nephele let her hold her for as long as she wanted, but then came the next issue: pretending she wasn’t crying too. Nephele blinked quickly, the crystalline tears rolling off her white eyelashes. These were easy to mask at first, as C’Leena wasn’t looking at her, but then she sniffled and Nephele was a goner. A small, almost wounded whimper escaped her through shut lips, and suddenly she was crying enough for the both of them. It was nearly a silent sound, with the tears wracking her body with tremors.
“O-Of course.” That was about all she could manage before her voice pitched again, and Nephele closed her eyes to force herself to stop.

"Hey, hey, shh. You're okay, darling," She says gently. It's a tone that can only truly be formed from practice. She shifts herself, not breaking away but essentially swaps their positions with one another.
C'Leenas back feels coarse, even through the fabric. She flinches back from the touch, her already solid musculature tightening, but quickly loosening back up, returning Nepheles hand to where it was. It becomes clear the C'Leena has put a lot of work into her core muscles. It makes sense, in the end. Without arm or leg muscles to work, she hasn't really had anything else to work on.
C'Leena isn't quite sure how this happened. One moment, C'Leena is the one crying into a shoulder, and the next, their positions are swapped and she is attempting to soothe Nephele. She feels guilty for making her cry, as this entire situation was due to C'Leenas own instability. It's during this time, where C'Leena is still quietly soothing Nephele where it clicks for her.
Her eyes widen in realization, and her heart yet again speeds up. She has an internal conflict, exploring each and every possibility as they lightly sway. Eventually she comes to a conclusion. It's incredibly risky, could absolutely destroy what has already been built up, but you only live once, and she's already denied the reaper his due all those years ago.
She turns her head and lightly kisses the top of her head, holding Nephele closer.
C'Leena Rose Thomas, Prosthetist, survivor of things she had no right to have survived, is now at war with herself. Was that the wrong thing to do? Was this at the worst possible moment? Did she just fuck everything up and ruin it all?
Throughout it all, her soothing words continued just above a whisper. The sun shining down on the both of them in the middle of a poppy field. They kneel wrapped in eachothers arms, lightly swaying back and forth.

Nephele was being held at this point, her hands fisting the front of C'Leena's shirt in embarrassment. She wasn't a heavy crier, but that wasn't to say that C'Leena's shirt wouldn't be pretty wet by the end of this interaction. Quite honestly, Nephele was unsure who she was crying for now. That overwhelming feeling of relief and kindness was suffocating, but it was almost not that bad...somehow?
And then C'Leena kissed her forehead, and everything seemed to lurch to a halt. Nephele's sniffling still persisted despite her shock, but her mind flew a mile a minute as she struggled to speak. Her voice got higher and her accent thicker while she failed to respond verbally, almost unintelligible as she finally processed what had happened. She kissed her...she kissed her. Nephele slowly looked up at C'Leena, in a pitiful state of shock and confusion.
What did one typically do in this situation? Nephele really didn't want to rush things - as much as her whimsied brain yelled at her to respond in kind - so first she had to collect her bearings before whispering a response, gazing up at C'Leena with her cheek resting on her chest and listening to the mechanical thrum of her heart.
"S-Sorry...Could you...ugh, was this always so difficult?" She sighs, organizing her thoughts and finally taking a little risk.
"What I mean is, um, do that again. Please?" The visceral full body cringe that her body experienced was something intense, and Nephele groaned. This was...really embarrassing.

That was fucken stupid, C'Leena. Why would you do that? Shit's only gonna go downhill from here. There ain't a chance in he-wait what?
She wasn't expecting that response. What she was expecting even less was for her to ask for another. Her surprise is visible, but is quickly replaced with an incredibly wide smile. If it weren't for the minutes prior, C'Leena would look perfectly fine. There is nothing showing that she was crying mere moments ago.
C'Leena brings a hand up to Nepheles face and cups a cheek. A few moments of simply looking into Nephs eyes pass before C'Leena dips her head and starts yet another kiss, however C'Leena aimed for her lips instead.
An unknown amount of time passes. Could be mere moments, or it could be hours. It all quickly became a blur. Eventually she does pull away, and presses her forehead against Nepheles, C'Leenas smile still wide.
"Alright, 2 things. First, I feel like this is the point where you don't need to ask anymore. Second, I can't say that this is how I saw my Anzac Day going." She laughs, the tinkling sound making a return. Her hand on Nephs cheek moves and simply wipes away errant tears from her face.
C'Leena shifts, moving from a kneeling to a sitting position, her legs off to the side of her. This way, C'Leena and Nephele are on - more or less - the same eye level.
"You look embarrassed, dal. Everything alright?" C'Leena asks. Despite how shes presenting herself outwardly, she's freaking the hell out internally. This is actually happening. Holy shit this is something thats happening. Wait what if the burns scare her off? What if- She continues this internal turmoil, which vaguely registers on her facial expressions, but for the most part, C'Leena is happy. Scared, sure, but happy nonetheless.

The timid air that seemed to billow off of Nephele in waves only dimmed a little, her heart flipping in her chest as she kissed back after a brief pause. It was gone almost too soon, but then again she was positively elated. Wow, did things often go this fast? Attraction altogether was nothing new to her, but indulging in something this magnetic and beautiful was making her head spin.
What came after this? I mean, she certainly wouldn't mind kissing C'Leena again, but Nephele really had to process. So instead of answering C'Leena's questions right away, Nephele distractedly traces a pattern along C'Leena's side through her shirt, remembering the image of the map of scars a little better than she cared to admit and redrawing their paths from memory.
"W-W-Well I just, um, didn't think my day would go this way either?" It came out as more of a question than a statement, and Nephele ducked her head in abject fear of saying or doing something stupid. Then again, what else could she do that would be deemed as stupid in this situation? "Thank you for indulging me, I'm just a bit, um, overwhelmed? I truly find you a calming and attractive presence that I'd like to be better acquainted with, b-but forgive me if I don't really know how to...respond."
Nephele sniffs again, turning her gaze up to C'Leena to see her own inner turmoil. This time she addresses it, poking C'Leena's cheek again with a purpose other to tease this time: "Why are you embarrassed? I've hardly done anything...oh no, did I completely derail your 'antsac' day? I'm so sorry." Nephele suddenly remembered why C'Leena was there in the first place, her words slurring together as she rushed to get the words out, and she suddenly pulled away. Nephele appeared alarmed, and on top of that she looked guiltier than anything.
Had she accidentally derailed a person's entire life because she found them pretty?! It wasn't like this was the first time it had happened, but Nephele had never screwed up and kissed the person. She buried her face in her hands, shifting so her knees were hiked up to her chest as she made herself as small as possible, a soft whine of embarrassment escaping her that sounded reminiscent of a trodden mouse.
