Born in a time before the Collapse, much of Adelaide's history is a mystery. She vaguely remembers being a student of a forgotten academy of mages in the old capitol, a city that no longer stands in the King's Valley. She does not remember how she came to be afflicted with the curse of vampirism, only the fear and terror she felt when she was sealed away in a thick ceramic coffin and placed in the deepest vaults of the catacombs. For thousands of years she lay there, wasting away and starving, trying to cling to whatever scraps of memory she retained.
And then there came a rumbling that woke her from her stupor. It was gentle at first, just enough to feel in her prison, and then the tremors grew, coming from the bowels of the earth like a great beast shaking off their slumber. After weeks of tremors there finally came the big one, a great earthquake that shook the catacombs around her so violently that her coffin fell from its shelf onto the stone below. The ceramic fractured, giving her just the smallest taste of new air for the first time in untold centuries. Becoming a column of mist she escaped her prison, weak, emaciated and driven almost mad with thirst she took only enough time to look at her former resting place, reading the inscription on the lid.
Adelaide Nastase, monster entombed for the safety of the realm. May she never walk the land of Charon again.
