Aki had her hands in her pockets, looking around with bored eyes. She had signed up for a race, and was now just awaiting its start. Her eyes scanned the area, but nothing was going on besides good natured chats between the locals and the ones from other lands. Ugh, this was boring her to death. She came here to for a show, not some boring chit chat!
She yawned, placing a hand in front of her mouth as she did so. Her ears twitched, hearing a loud call coming for all racers to start preparing. Tch, finally. She stretched her arms upwards, looking around for where the donkey she'd borrow was. Her eyes found it, and she turned and started to approach. But, she stopped suddenly, noticing some rocks. She picked one up and tested it, grinning. These should add some fun.
Bending down, she picked up a few and quickly stuffed them into her bag, before returning to her walk towards the donkey. No one was on their mount yet, so once she got to it she waited outside the pen, leaning against a post with boredom still flashing in her eyes. Hopefully no one would notice the fact that she had rocks in her bag.

It's been an interesting few days. The small creature that opened my pen and led the storm out of the human settlement where I'd grown up continued to cling to me like how some young cling to their parents. We ran for the first couple days, fearing the stabbing-bipeds and the angry dogs, but it's been just over two weeks since then, and there hadn't been any sign of them for a few days, so now we were going at a relaxed trot through the grass land. Not sure where we were going, but it was nice to explore. We've been following a small creek, and up ahead we could see shapes in the distance. As we drew closer, it became more and more apparent what it was- a biped settlement. I could feel the small creature shuffling around on my head and I stopped, then knelt down when I felt a little tap on the back of my head-a sign he was planning to slide down my neck and off my back. Now on the ground, he dipped his head in water so that it regained it's slimy black sheen, before approaching my front hoof. He took it between his arms and tried to drill it into the ground. That action surprised me- he'd never done that before. I gently retracted my foot, but he kept a twiggy hand on it, and another on the space it'd just been. I put my hoof back, and he nodded contentedly, before running off in the direction of the town. I started after him, but he jiggled his head, running back and planting my hoof in the same spot. 'Stay here' he seemed to be telling me. Actually thinking about it, the last time we were in a human town, they had been angry. My companion was small, fungus- looking and generally had to spot, whereas I was a big, red, thing-a-m'bob. Maybe it would be better for me to wait. After a solid 30 seconds of waiting, I started to paw the ground. The small one had been with me since I ran away from home, and not having him within eyesight was making me nervous. Well, we've escaped an angry mob of humans before- we can do it again if need be. So, a grand total of two minutes after I'd been told to stay put, I followed the twiggy one into town.

The town was full of bipeds, mostly ‘raw’ ones, as the bipeds that lead my hometown called them. They were mostly the same shape and color, only some having horns or a tail, or the occasional pair of wings. I suddenly felt very out of place. Unlike where I’d come from I was the only chimera around as far as I could see. I sniffed around for the smell of tree-ear fungus that followed the little guy like mosquitoes did to my flesh in the summertime. There. I spotted him peeking around the edge of a tent. He didn’t have eyes that I could see, but the way that his gelatinous head stopped furtively jiggling as his vision landed on me let me know he’d seen me. He started frantically waving his arms, and I plodded over to him, the frightened crowd giving me a wide berth. Once the was was clear of human feet, the little one rushed over to me and I kneeled down, and rested my chin on the floor, closing my eyes until I felt that it was securely seated on my head before standing up once again. There was an incessant tapping on my left antler ('Turn around'), and it wasn't till now that I realized how big of a commotion I'd caused. The street was practically empty and most who remained had formed a circle around us, some holding weapons, some ushering young, most chattering nervously and backing away. One held up a whip and said something ("Beast, are you a symbol of harm or blessing?") that I didn't understand. I could tell that he was scared, confused and very ready to stab us. I started to back up, when I felt those familiar taps on the back of my head again. I stood straight. The little one would get smooshed and left behind if I let him down now, yet the tapping only became more incessant, so I lowered my head, keeping an eye on the supposed leader and keeping my companion close. He scratched a wobbly heart on the floor and we stood at a stand still.

She looked around while waiting for the race to begin, noticing a crowd forming in a street a bit away. She frowned, tilting her head slightly to the left in curiosity. Huh, wonder whats going on over there. Only took that one thought for her to stop leaning against the post and wander over, looking from the back of the crowd.
Two creatures were staying in the middle of this crowd, and they didn't look all that normal. Still didn't explain why everyone felt the need to be carrying weapons and staring at the two like they'd go on a rampage. And what the heck, even if they did theres literally a bunch of people who know how to deal with wrangling creatures.
Aki shoved her way to the front with a sigh, pushing to the person who seemed to be trying to communicate with them. Well then, this was going to be fun. She looked at the man who was the "leader" and scowled at him. "What are you even doing? They're both just minding their own business, you know." She said with an air of superiority.
The man looks a tad confused, like the townsfolk who was terrified to get their hands even a little dirty would. "Come on now!" She snapped at the crowd. "Shoo, shoo, if anything happens because of them feel free to chase me away or whatever."
She then turned back to the creatures and looked at them closer, curious what made them cause such a fuss. To be honest, she probably should be more cautious about this. But, Aki being Aki, that wasn't going to even cross her few braincells.
Then Aki jumped slightly, hearing the loud call for all racers to get ready for the race to begin. Looking to both of the creatures, she quickly made another decision. "Uh, you should probably follow me and stay near the pens, I think that'd be, well, a bit safer."
Aki turned, and without waiting to see if they followed or not, start speed walking back to where her donkey was waiting for the race.

We stood at a stand still for a few moments. Then there was a disturbance in the crowd, and a new face emerged. It was a biped with feline features and a striped grey coat. She growled something to the leader apparent ("What are you even doing?") and he shrunk back. She said something else and the crowd started to disperse.
Now the crowd is gone, and it was just me, the walking fungus, and the dominant biped. She scrutinized us with her feline eyes, and for that moment, I thought she'd dismissed the others to hunt us alone. Then the moment was gone, and she held herself a little awkwardly, most of her imposing demeanor all but gone. She said something to us that seemed like a nonchalant off handed comment, then turned around and left. I let the little guy back up on my head. I wasn’t sure what to do, but the little guy knew what it wanted. It wanted to follow. I was a little apprehensive- she did seem very much capable of eating us, but on the other hand, she was also very capable of defending us and communicating with other bipeds on our behalf. So with another light forwards push on my antlers, I obliged, and followed. I had to trot a bit to catch up, but people gave us a wide berth, so I didn't have to push through or fear trampling anyone. I slowed down once I'd caught up to her, and looked around the town. It was busy, people hurrying around with food, clothes, decor, and other items that I assumed were sorts of tools and props for whatever was happening. Eventually we stopped in front of a long building, and when the humanoid feline opened the door, I saw rows of stalls.I could feel the anxiety coming from the one on my head. Come to think of it, he'd bust into a similar building where I'd grown up in and then ran away from it. Maybe he has some sort of vendetta against barns? He started yanking at my antlers, telling me to turn around. I shook my head a little to get him to stop, then lowered my head. Get down if you don't want to go in. He didn't get down. I shook my head a little and he fell off. He looked at me and his head jiggled to and fro. We have to get away, he waved with his hands. I gave him a comforting lick, then pawed the door open.

She turned to see the little creature getting off the larger one, and she gave an inward shrug. Guess they didn't wanna go after all, she thought to herself. "Well then... Just pick a spot to stand, I guess." She said, turning to go struggle with her assigned donkey. She sighed, wishing one of the race people would come help her. Trying to wrangle to donkey into letting her get on it, she gave a frustrated sigh again. Oh how she regretted joining this already, and all she was doing was preparing to start. Looking around, she hoped someone would decide she was obviously uncapable of dealing with this herself. But, also obviously, no one felt she needed any help. Guess this happened often, a new racer having no clue what they were doing. Well, this was going to be a headache to try and do.
Aki grumbled as she was struggling, occasionally looking back to make sure the creature was still there. Or that they weren't being attacked by anything, that was probably going to be more likely. How was she going to make sure they didn't get hurt or attacked again while she was out doing the race?

The barn was a comfortable temperature, and filled with rows of stalls that housed a variety of horses, donkeys and mules. I felt a little out of place and a little awed. So this is what other barns are like. The barn where I'd lived had housed a variety of quadrupeds, almost no two looking remotely similar. Of course I had met my siblings, and donkeys and horses before, but… a whole barn, just for donkeys, horses and mules. Woah, imagine not having to fear getting trampled by the elk and reindeer, or the guardians not getting your food confused because you all eat more or less the same thing! Coming back to the present, the feline biped stopped in front of a stall with a donkey in it. I plodded over to the donkey. I'd met a donkey once, while out in the field during exercise time. They'd made for pleasant company, though a bit wary at first. Not very fast either, I typically raced and jousted with other horse and deer based Things, but that'd been a few days after I woke up with a shell on my back, so I was kinda lethargic, and it was nice. Hi chuffed in greeting. The donkey looked me up and down suspiciously….Are you a predator? He asked. Used to this kind of exchange I just shook out my mane. Not to you- the biggest thing I've hunted is a small boar. They scrutinized me some more before letting me off the hook. I'll take your word for it they huffed, but no funny business, they glared, which almost worked, as they stood just a few inches shorter than me, sans antlers. He shook off the biped who'd been trying to mount him. He eyed my mouth before bucking again. Actually, could you help me chew off this bridle? they asked. Sure, I bobbed my head and carefully got my teeth around the leather strap and started chewing at it. It tastes gross, I commented, not sure what to do with the lull in conversation. The donkey snorted, you think I wouldn't know? I've had this thing in my mouth for the past half hour. At this point, the biped had given up on trying to mount the donkey, and was just looking lost.

Aki threw up her hands, watching the creature she had just helped out now chewing at the donkeys whatever it was called. Though it was more amusing than annoying to see them trying to create a rebellion against her, she was still frustrated a bit. "Agh! I'm being teamed up against now, huh?" She laughed, lowering her arms.
A townsfolk poked their head into the barn. "Uh- miss, the race is starting already. You're a bit late, might wanna hurry up if you want a chance to win." They informed her, and she sighed. "Of course." She grumbled, half amused still. "Alright donkey, listen up. We got a race to win." She tried to motivate the donkey, lightly moving the other creature away. Trying to mount once more, she got kicked off more harshly than the first time. Landing in a thing of water, she grumbled again. "No jokes this time! We're getting in that race, now!" She snapped at the unamused donkey, trying once more to mount it and miserably failing.
Then, she got a rather dumb idea. Turning to the creature she rescued, she tilted her head. "Hmm... Hey! I have an idea, I doubt you can understand me but can I ride you for the race?" She questioned, not even doubting this idea. "The stubborn little donkey is getting frustrating."

The biped groaned something in frustration ("Agh! I'm being teamed up against now, huh?") I looked up from my chewing to see her try to mount the donkey again and fail. Okay boot-the-biped was kinda fun the first few rounds but now it's just annoying the donkey muttered. I snorted a laugh. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something move. Before I could look at it properly, the biped approached me and… asked me permission for something("Hey! I have an idea, I doubt you can understand me but can I ride you for the race?")? I mean, the only thing any biped might want from me is…. Oh. She wants to sit on me dosen't she. A squeak interrupted my internal debate, and this time I turned to look at it. The pen door to the donkey's pen was now open, and had swung open a little. A frightened whinny came from a mule three or stalls down, and more followed in quick sucession, before half the horses started charging my way. Bro lemme in Bro there's no space I don't wanna get trampled I don't wanna be stuck with what ever frightened them, YOU lemme out.
And with the stampede upon us, I darted down the hall with the stampede. If there was the return of a familiar little weight on my head and a much heavier unfamiliar weight on my back, it didn't matter, I was fast enough for all three of us not to become paste on the floor of the narrow way.

Aki jumped as a stampede began out of nowhere, and them hopped onto the thing she had been talking to. As they exited the barn, the other thing from before was trying to jump out of the way of the herd. She sighed, reaching down and grabbing the dude, planting them on top of the large creature.
The stampede was heading towards the race, breaking through things in their desperation to be getting away from whatever they were running from. People jumped out of the way, and stared at Aki and her new friends, the creatures standing out in the sea of grays and browns.
They all broke into the race track, people turning and gawking at the large herd. Most were running through the field to the other side, as others began racing in circles. Chaos was being unleashed as onlookers started scrambling to get away from the stampede, desperately climbing over seats and each other to get away.
Aki looked to the small thing she had picked up, hoping they had some idea of what to do. She wasn't exactly known for her racing skills, not all that great at doing stuff with animals. This was a mess, but she was somehow having some fun with the chaos happening around her.

I followed the herd of jostling bodies, thundering through narrow ways and crowded streets, trampling whatever so happened to be under foot and jumping over what we couldn't trample. People parted like water as the stampede made it's way through the town. I jumped over barrels, wove between taller horses, and charged through the crowd. Slowly, I managed to pull to the front. I leaped over a fence into an open area. I t was an oval meadow of yellowing grass, outlined in a band of bare dirt, there were a few horses there with bridles and riders, and an audience of at least a few hundred. Despite the lack of fiery heat at my back, both my passengers kept driving me forwards, and I heard a gunshot. This…seems familiar. The gunshots. the barn, the stampede, and the way that everything was mysteriously unlocked, the presence of a certain tiny creature on my head. I looked up to see if I could see him, but no, he was safe from my scrutinizing gaze behind my own forehead. At least I don't hear hounds this time. The mounted horses joined me at the front of the horde at the gunshot, but they seemed strangely calm. We followed the dirt track, and the horses around me seemed to be having... fun. Which is weird, considering we were getting shot at. Once I realized that we were head ed back to where we'd started. I gave a nervous whinny Bro, do you have a plan aside from dodging bullets? I crashed across the painted line that marked where the mounted equestrians had joined us, and they just, trotted to a stop. My riders stopped egging me on too. I also slowed, confused. There was cheering from the stands, and the others seemed either excited, or confused like me. The feline finally hopped off my back and they seemed really happy. I followed her confusedly I mean, we're all glad we're not dead, but I've got a feeling that's not it. I muttered to a horse on a podium next to me. She quirked confusedly at me Why would we be dead?
I was taken aback. Uuhhh because of guns?
They stared at me and chuckled No wonder a green bean like you was able to get third, you were litterally running like your life was on the line. No, this is a race, there're no actual bullets.
A laurel was placed around my neck and I looked incredulously between my companion and the damn freeloader. I trotted off to sulk.
