Hugo and his circus had arrived the day before, having done a little March through the town doing tricks and throwing treats in procession to announce their upcoming performance in a few days. They were working on setting up camp when it began. The rumbling and shaking, the ground cracking and screams soon erupting from the town below. He looked towards it a bit surprised the earthquakes were here though he knew the chaos such things could cause and he soon nodded to his crew to go help the people and kept a few others to set up the tents for refugees. He didn’t care much for the lives of those who were outside of his crew but knew it would be best to play nice and assist and maybe they could get some rewards for such things
with this in mind he moved down into the city helping guide people up the hill towards the circus stating they had food, medicine and a place to recover. He continued this announcement as he went along gesturing people in the right direction. He looked around helping a few people when needed and continued on with this work making sure he wouldn’t get crushed by rubble

Amelia wandered the city, strolling at a leisurely pace. It was starting to warm up, after a cold winter. Just as she was really beginning to become an adventurer as well, how lovely. Of course, she'd deal with the heat in the summer, when her cloak and furs got too warm. But that was for another time.
As she walked along, window shopping, the earth starting to seemingly turn hostile. Screams started going up, making Amelia look around. No one was injured, though. So what was happening? Someone screamed it as the word popped into her mind, making her panic. Earthquake.
She had been enjoying the city so far, but maybe she should have realized the dangers of earthquakes. She saw people start running around, obviously panic was taking hold of them. Panic was seizing her as well, but she fought to keep a clear head. Some people were rushing down from the hill, where the circus group had been setting themselves up after a parade around the town.
Good, they were coming to help. She gave a breathy laugh, trying to keep her wits about her. Getting away from all the buildings, where rubble was bound to fall and hurt people, would probably be a good idea. But... She lingered, thinking. Some others surely would need help, and even though this wasn't her home she was one of the most calm people.
That made up her mind quickly, and she assisted the people who were helping the others up the hill. The ground was cracking, making fissures in the streets. She sighed, cracking her knuckles and encasing her arms in stone [1]. She nodded, that made her feel much better.
She quickly helped others up the hill, along with the ones who were in the circus group. She was breathing heavy, carrying anyone who was hurt and herding small children away from large gaps was draining her. She was somewhat old, this was using her energy up.
Amelia kept hurrying around, but was definitely slowing down. She kept picking people up, helping them out of debris or pulling them from cracks in the ground. As the last people were rounded up and quickly rushed up the hill, she stopped for a breath. Her plan was to continue on after a moment, but unfortunately for her, stopping just made it harder to continue.
She had just looked back up when she saw the shadow of something falling directly towards her. [1] Stone hands

Hugo Helped more people as they went and looked to those left, he was surprised to see the older woman helping though noticed her wearing down as they continued to work. Seeing her stop he had already begun to walk towards her before breaking into a run seeing the building above her cracking. Just as it fell he dove towards amelia and put one hand under her head and the other around her before they hit the ground to protect her,, narrowly missing being crushed by the rubble of the now destroyed building.
After a moment he looked down at her, his black and blue eyes looking down at her "Are you alright miss?" he asked as he helped her sit up looking her over for injury. He then stood and held out a hand to help her stand if she could. He was glad to have reached the woman in time. Yes he was a bad guy but not a monster. He looked around to check the damage around them and to see who else was around before looking back to her "We should get back up the hill miss. Can you walk?" he asked as he awaited an answer.

Amelia took a deep breath, swallowing in air quickly as she was pushed out from the falling rubble. Thank the gods for that, she didn't feel like being a pancake yet. She looked to the person who had saved her, smiling gratefully. "I'm alright, just a bit shocked. Thank you, wasn't very fond of the idea of becoming squashed!" She chuckled, taking the persons hand and getting up.
"I can walk, we should probably hurry though." She nodded to the person, beginning the trek to the hill, as fast as she could. She kept an eye out for anyone who had lagged behind, thankfully for them all had made it up already. She sighed, turning to see the way back was now blocked by some fallen rubble. Just their luck, first caught in an earthquake and now this.
She groaned in annoyance, looking to the stranger who had helped her. "Well then, hold on." She frowned, walking up and trying to lift the debris out of the way. It was no use, though, she was still drained from helping out earlier. "You got anything to deal with this? Otherwise we need a new way to get back up."
Amelia paused for a moment, giving the stranger time to speak. This, this was the headache to end all headaches.

Hugo nodded to her, a bit surprised his eyes didn’t seem to scare the woman as they did most but he said nothing on this as he turned to hurry them along away from the chaos and destruction as he examined the area and then looked back to her “well no magic personally but I am quite the climber. If you could hold onto my back I am sure we could get over this” he offered. If she refused he was sure they could find a way or if he could flag them down one of his circus members could assist them.
He examined the terrain and listened to the sounds around them as he awaited a reply. At the very least the shaking was over so that was one less threat to dwell on at the moment. He saw some fabric and came up with another idea “it if preferable I can climb up and throw down some fabric to you as a rope to climb or hoist up if that is any easier for you” he remarked as his gaze fixed back to the small fragile looking woman before him. Usually he wouldn’t care for such niceties but desperate times call for desperate measures

Amelia sighed, slow and heavy. It was filled with some relief as the shaking came to a halt, giving them one less immediate danger to worry about. She blinked as the stranger mentioned climbing over the rubble that blocked their path. "Ah, right. Climbing. Forgot about that, I can climb this. Not too tall, at least."
She nodded, mainly to herself. Yes, climbing would work. She didn't want the stranger to carry her, her stony hands weren't going to help with the weight. She assessed the rubble, finding some foot and handholds. She quickly began to climb, struggling to move around. Thankfully, she managed to get to the top, standing on the unsteady rubble.
"I'll be on the other side, this doesn't look like it'll hold my weight for long." She frowned, scurrying down and dropping to the ground, giving a little thump. She sat down for a moment, waiting for the other person to make their way over. Ugh, this was seriously giving her both a headache and aches in general. Curse her older age
She stood up again after a bit, brushing dust from her clothes. She took a couple deep breaths, trying in vain to regain her strength quickly. She suddenly leaned down and coughed, the dust from all the falling buildings and trees still floating around the air. This was not a place she'd like to go again, earthquakes seemed to be coming left and right here.
But whatever. She shook her head, giving one last cough and pulling a cloth from her pouch, placing it in front of her nose and mouth. She listened to the other person drop down beside her, much more gracefully than she had dropped. "Lets keep going, then. Not exactly sure if another is coming soon."
She looked to the other person for confirmation that they were ready to go, awaiting their response before they continued on.

Hugo quickly and easily climbed and looked around from the top then to her making sure she made it up okay. He wouldn’t say it but he was quite impressed by her ability to move around and climb so well. Upon hearing her words he nodded and followed her down, his gaze roaming the area for any danger and such as they continued to move. Hearing her speak he then nodded in agreement “right then we should be close to a way out by now” he replied and began walking looking around for the best way to go. It seemed forward would be the easiest path with the least rubble and a clearer line to a way out
He gestured forward to her “forward seems the safest path with the least amount of trouble” he remarked and began walking forward over the rubble, keeping an arm out for the woman to use or lean on if she needed help with the rough terrain ahead as they moved forward. He glanced towards the tents in the distance and was a bit annoyed they would be stuck here for a while longer than intended most likely but at least it would be good for their image

She nodded thankfully to the stranger, out of breath and rather unable to speak. The dwarfs breathing was pretty ragged, she obviously didn't look that good. Some loose rubble still crashed down from nearby buildings, thankfully not large pieces. Still made walking the streets dangerous though, the sooner they could get out the better. She kept an eye out for any natural soil, but all of it was either in pots or out at the outskirts of the city. Drat it, this day was going so well.
She coughed a bit, anger and annoyance at this entire thing fueling her to keep going. Her cheeks were getting warm, probably from the anger she had at this disastrously large earthquake, or from how hard she was being on herself to just get out alive.
The dwarven woman sighed, halting her walking and leaning over, coughing a bit louder and taking a moment to reset her breathing. Then she heard bubbling coming from a nearby street. And burning. She looked up, and blinked. How did they miss the giant fire raging around?
"There uh, appears to be another problem." She stated, slightly in shock at this recent turn of events. "I've got an idea to get out of here quicker, but I need some dirt." Amelia informed the stranger, watching the fire. It was certainly moving quickly, and getting hotter. Much, much hotter. Amelia turned back to the street and blinked again. Well, of course. Of course the path would instantly get blocked by a raging fire. Even better, they were being surrounded by it, the only choice left was back into the city. She gave a hacking cough, the smoke now trickling into her lungs.
Any chances they had to make it out of the city were quickly dwindling. She turned around in a circle, assessing each option. "We need to go back to the city, maybe we'll have luck in there." She squinted, struggling to see the hill they were meant to be going. She could see some people running around, seemingly in a panic.
As she continued to struggle with just existing, she turned back the way we came. She held up a hand, gesturing for the person to follow as she steadily made her way back. She tilted her cloak around her face, using it as a weak mask of protection from the smoke.
The air was speeding up, just making this all the more troublesome. Then she saw the source of the bubbling. A giant lava pit blocked the way, bubbling madly. They were trapped, fires on all sides closing in and a large, expanding crater blocking the way where they were going to make their escape.
Then, suddenly, she gave a sigh of relief, spotting something. She grabbed the stranger and rushed over to it, ignoring the pain of walking and breathing. Dirt. Glorious, amazing dirt. If it wouldn't be weird and it wasn't all scorched, she might have just kissed it. It was natural, not in a pot or anything.
She coughing out a couple more times, turning to the stranger. "I can get us out." She rasped out, starting to dig a bit to make sure the dirt didn't have anything under it. Thank the gods, this small patch didn't. She turned up to the person and smiled. "You don't mind getting your clothes a bit dirty?" She adjusted her cloak, coughing into it once more.
Her smile was grim, and pleading. There wasn't really any options other than her, and she wished to get them both out alive. Unharmed wasn't an option anymore, at least for her. She couldn't really tell if the stranger was hurt or not, but she certainly had some scrapes. Her hands weren't enclosed in the stone fists anymore, and she had cuts on her hands from climbing over debris and rubble. And something was certainly wrong with her breathing.
Best she could offer them was a ticket out, so long as the stranger agreed. But the more she thought about it, and the closer the fires and fissure of lava got, it wasn't looking like they would really get a choice. "I'll explain quickly, we're going to burrow through the ground and pop up somewhere outside the city. Hopefully we'll arrive closer to the hill."
She looked pleadingly at the stranger. "I mean-" She coughed out. "Not much choice here." Her voice rasped out, staring at the stranger. Her eyes watered from the smoke, and she made up her mind. She whipped her hand out with sudden strength, grabbing the stranger and holding onto him.
Then she blinked. "God- You'll be crushed if we do that..." She grumbled, blinking. "I can go get help, just..." She looked around and pointed to a stone building. "That wont burn, stay here and I can get help." Without another word, she hopped into the ground [1] and burrowed away.
She arose out of a ground a bit away, doubling over and giving a coughing fit. She made it out of the burning city, and thankfully had managed to get at the base of the hill. She hurried up it, screaming as loud as she could with her hoarse and raspy voice. "Someones- Still in there!" The dwarven woman cried, collapsing into another coughing fit at the base of the camp.
People heard her and, as one would, became panicked. The circus group realized the one person in their group who was missing. Their leader. They seemed stunned, looking around in shock. That only lasted a moment though, before they quickly sprung into action, figuring out how to get their leader out of the burning city.
Someone helped her up, half carrying her. They gave her some water, propping her up against a nearby tree. She gave a weak smile of thanks, keeping her eyes trained on the city below. Leaving for help was the best option, but what if it went wrong? This was a total, giant mess to deal with. She coughed again, wrapping scraps of cloth from her bag around her minor injuries.
She watched a group quickly depart for the city, anxious looks on their face. Oh this was really, really bad. [1] Soil surfing

Hugo walked with her helping when he could and pausing when she needed a moment along their walk and such. He paused as he also heard the bubbling and raised a brow looking over at it. Now this was just ridiculous. Why the hell was their lava now?! "Dirt?" he questioned purely confused after hearing the others words. What would dirt do? He was even more confused as she began walking back to the city saying they needed to go back? He sighed a bit but followed "are you sure going back is a great idea?" he questioned as he walked with her. He looked at the fire on all sides and grimaced a bit as they went surprised when she ran towards the dirt. "I would prefer not though I suppose with the dust I already am" he remarked. He was surprised as he hardly had time to answer before being grabbed before being let go as she had then disappeared away. He grimaced being left in the rubble with the lava coming in. He cursed and climbed the building coughing as the smoke inhalation was worse now. He sat there trying to stay awake though he was feeling increasingly tired. He paused hearing voices surprised. So that lady made it. With the help of some of the performers he stood and with the strange conglomeration of people in the cirque he was easily evacuated and moved to safety

Amelia took a deep breath, regaining her senses after being freed of both the ground and the smoke-y prison. She took a moment, getting her strength back before standing and looking around, wandering over to a tree. She knelt down, placing her hands on the ground and focusing for the roots. Then, all of a sudden, the earth around her trembled slightly, and quickly a small 3 roomed house popped up from the ground [1].
People around her jumped back in surprise, looking at the house that randomly appeared. She turned to them, pointing to the house tiredly. "More room." She explained, gesturing to the people who had been injured an unable to fit inside any of the other places.
Her eyes drifted around, looking anxiously for the person she had left in the city. She quickly slouched a bit, her posture slumping. She sat back down, away from the main group of people, and twiddled her thumbs as she awaited any news about the person. Her eyes traced the area, before settling their gaze at her hands as she twitched them.
Stupid her, she probably could have found a way out of she had tried harder. But they had been surrounded, the only choice back to the city. She grumbled to herself quietly, cursing herself for doing that and cursing the gods for bringing this on. Stupid stupid stupid, this entire thing was just some stupid thing.
Amelia was so caught up in all of this, she missed the group that had hastily sent themselves out return, with one new person in tow. Would have been a huge relief to her, had she just been looking up

Hugo was able to walk a bit as they got away from the ash and smoke, looking around as his eyes landed on the old woman mumbling and twitching. He raised a brow and with the help of the others walked towards her and stopped in front of her "What's with the long face lady? Not used to people frowning at my cirque even in the worst scenarios" he remarked with a little grin "especially when they saved someones life. Quite the strange reaction" he said softly and crouched in front of her "How about some food and rest hm? Consider it my way of thanks for the save and the help back there" he added as he looked over the woman. It was rare he showed genuine kindness to others and such especially those who werent in his troupe. Yet here he was trying to cheer this old woman up. It seemed she had found a soft spot in the mans heart. After a moment or two he stood and held out a hand to help her up so she could be led to the tents to rest and recover from everything that had happened knowing many people would be getting help from the troupe members

Amelia blinked and looked up, seeing the man she had been with in the city. "Oh thank the gods, your alright!" She gave a sigh of relief, feeling the tension draining out of her. That was absolutely terrifying for her. She smiled at this person who she didn't even know the name of and stood up, taking his hand to stand up.
She would have never forgave herself if something happened to this stranger while he was trapped in the city, because she had been the one who left him there. At least everything turned out somewhat okay, she guessed. But there were still multiple injured and dying up here, they couldn't save everyone.
Amelia followed the stranger around the makeshift camp, weaving through the crowds gathering around in different places. She looked back for a moment, pleased to see the hut she had sprung from the earth was already being put to good use.
She was trying not to look too closely at anyone, feeling rather annoyed at herself for not having anything to help them. Other than some stuff that was now completely destroyed that had been in her satchel, she was totally unarmed for this entire mess.

“Why of course I can’t leave my troupe alone you know “ he jokingly chuckled. He was always one to act as if things were fine even if they weren’t or almost weren’t. He made sure she stood carefully “can’t get rid of me so easily” he added as he walked her through the camp. The troupe was using anything available for shelters and cots and such for those needing it. “Good thing we had everything set up before this all began. I’m amazed it’s still standing in all honesty but it’s shelter for now at the least” he remarked leading her into the big top where cots were set around along with some makeshift hammocks to fit in more people. “You can stay here to rest if you’d like. We have lots of room and enough supplies to get everyone through a few days” he explained to her. He himself felt rather tired and exhausted from it all throughout the day. “I myself am going to get some rest” he explained “if you need anything feel free to ask miss” he remarked and turned with a little wave “for now however good day and a good rest to you. Thank you”

Amelia chuckled at the remarks, coming to a stop in front of the tent. "Thank you, I'm glad we've ran into each other, even under the circumstances. Go rest, I think we all need a little after today. Goodbye!" She said to Hugo, turning and walking into the tent to get some rest herself.
Her plans for rest weren't quite done for a little while, as she helped out for a little where she could. Getting food to people, helping survivors set things up, anything she could do. For a while she felt half awake while doing it all, but managed to keep going until she was told to go rest.
Finally sitting down again and closing her eyes, she fell asleep under a tree and stayed there for a while, getting a much needed rest. Exhausted from the long and tiresome day, everyone slowly settled down and found a place to sleep for the night, Amelia staying under her tree and watching some smoke billow from the distant city. The smoke drifted away from their camp, thankfully, and took to the skies and turned it a light gray. It might take a while for the area to recover from this whole mess.
