Jiv'undus Malrieth
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Race: Human
Nationality: Nomadic
Appearance:
Jiv'undus is a oft hooded figure of below average height (5'6"), with an androgynous light build and long, white hair. Under his hood his features are prominent, with a strong nose and a square chin. His attire varies from flowing dark blue cloaks and robes to the more harsh travel attire of a short red cloak and simpler earthen tone trousers and tunics. He commonly has a messenger style shoulder pack containing his travel goods.
He walks with a light limp and supports himself with his gnarled, twisted wooden staff with a single sickly yellow jewel shrouded by twisting protrusions at it's head. His skin tone is deathly pallid and his eyes, rarely seen from the shadow of his hood, are a ghostly vibrant violet.
Overall Jiv'undus presents as a sickly, small man of questionable origin.
Personality:
Prone to fits of uncontrolled coughing, and with a raspy sickly voice quick to a stutter Jiv'undus reeks of death and melancholy. His posture is down cast, his eyes hidden and his limping gait do not inspire many to reach out and speak to the nomad. That suits Jiv'undus just fine, a recluse and natural hermit Jiv'undus prefers the company of solitude over the rush of the crowd. Shifty eyed and naturally high strung the pallid nomad rarely reaches out to others for anything but business and has no interpersonal relationships.
Hidden under his shifty eyes and nervous tone is a highly driven, goal oriented mage of growing skill who channels his melancholy into arcane and academic research - especially into that of mutations, defects and aberrations. In pursuit of this knowledge Jiv'undus has aligned himself to the Dark Domain of Magic - and he uses these skills to collect specimens of aberrations and mutations, often dissecting them in pursuit of greater knowledge of the unknown.
While macabre and possibly even immoral Jiv'undus is not traditionally evil, he has no grand plan to harm others and seeks only to complete his knowledge and achieve total mastery of his fields of study. However his sickly body does worry him, and his thoughts have increasingly turned to the mythical state of lichdom as a life goal - to continue his studies eternally.
History:
Jiv'undus was born the son of a traveling merchant, part of a brood of traveling traders and the like who mostly plied their trade around the various small villages bordering the Marsh Flats to the very edges Zeinav Desert. As a child Jiv'undus was quiet and well behaved, if a bit solitary and shy. Fond of books and knowledge Jiv'undus' father spared little expense in educating his son, and by the time he was an early teen he could read complex medical manuals and comprehend difficult subject matter.
During a trip deeper into the Marsh Flats then was ordinary for the merchants Jiv'undus wandered off into the swamp in search of rare plants, a book on botany captivating him at the time and his thirst to see what he had only read about over riding his sense of danger for the reportedly haunted bog. When Jiv'undus did not return by nightfall his father grew worried and put out a quest with a sizeable reward for his return - alive.
For two weeks Jiv'undus was missing, almost without a trace. What had happened to him not even Jiv'undus remembers, but when he emerged changed from the swamp it was clear it was not a good thing. His once black hair was stark white and four or five inches longer then when he had entered, his skin was pale like a ghost despite a lifetime spent traveling outdoors and he had pronounced limp in his left leg which he was seemingly offsetting by walking with a strange gnarled staff taller then he was.
His eyes were hollow and unnerving, frightening the other merchants which made his father insist he covered them in the darkness of his hood. Soon he developed a horrible cough, and struggled to speak without a stutter - something unusual for a child once so verbose with his vocabulary. His thirst for knowledge was deeper but seemed to take on a darker tone, shifting from books about botany or preventive medicine to books on anatomy, aberrations and battlefield surgery.
Eventually he came of age, and manifested his thirst for knowledge in the display of magic to his father. The old merchant was proud, but the sickly glow of the staff at his side unnerved the man and soon Jiv'undus stopped sharing his magical breakthroughs. Jiv'undus would horde arcane manuals soon after, and eventually declared to his father he needed the freedom to 'pursue greater heights' and left without much warning.
Jiv'undus has travelled the world ever since, seeking some profane knowledge only he understands and furthering his self taught magical talent without rest.
