Aster opened the door to the Purple Lantern, immediately being hit with a wave of loud sounds and tasty smells as she walked inside. It seemed the gentleman at the docks was right: This was the place to be in town if you were looking for company and drinks after a long day. She looked around in wonder as she entered, the purple lights giving the tavern a welcoming glow. She had been to A Druids Satchel many times in Moonveil Village, but it never got so busy and boisterous back home.
She had spent the day exploring this strange new city, her only knowledge of it coming from travelers who passed through the village on the way to other locations. Despite walking the whole day, popping into shops and taking in the feeling of a new and exciting place, she felt like she had only seen a fraction of the city! But as her feet started to ache and the day faded into evening she was looking forward to some time to relax.
Grabbing an ale from the friendly barkeep who had introduced himself as Merek, Aster took in the room full of strange faces. The tavern was packed, barely a chair left anywhere, let alone full tables. A tiny twinge of anxiety ran through her stomach as she considered her options. The noise was a bit overwhelming, and while Aster was by no means a hermit she always felt a bit of nerves introducing herself to someone new. Over in one corner she saw a tall and intimidating man with a longsword holstered to his belt who had a spot at his table for two, and she immediately took that chair off the possible list of places to sit.
Crossing a few others off the list of possibilities as she searched, finally her eyes settled on a chair across from a dwarf woman who looked friendly enough. Decision made, Aster started to weave through tables filled with other patrons before coming up to her table, taking a quick calming breath before speaking up.
“Ah, um, hello! Is this seat taken? If not, would it be alright if I sit here?"

Amelia leaned back in her chair, taking a swig of her ale. Ah, another tavern visit. Always quite fun, except for the one Zeinav trip. That one... Was less than fun, but she did meet someone who was an interesting folk. It certainly was an experience.
She looked around, spotting someone advancing to her table. She smiled as the person asked to sit with her, and she nodded to them. "Ah, go ahead! I'm not sitting with anyone, at least, I wasn't before!" She chuckled, waving a hand to the seat and taking another drink. Amelia smiled to them. "Names Amelia, yours?"

Aster smiled widely back at Amelia and took the open seat, carefully folding her skirt underneath her legs. She shrugs off her capelet, hanging it off the back of her chair and settling in for hopefully a nice chat and relaxing evening. She holds her gloved hand out across the table.
“My name is Aster, lovely to meet you Amelia!”
Aster leaned back in her chair, debating on if she should order a meal. As she considered that thought she pulled her satchel into her lap, rummaging around until she found some of the small cakes she had baked and wrapped for her travel to the city. Made with local berries and roasted almonds, they were one of her specialties, and her favourite snack. Pulling two out of the bag, she placed one in front of her and placed another in front of Amelia with a soft grin.
“A small gift if you’d like, for being kind enough to let me join you at your table. Made them myself!”
She started to munch on the cake, taking small sips of her ale in between bites. Aster pondered if perhaps there might be a way to incorporate ale into a new dessert recipe, mentally jotting that down to try later.
“If I may ask, do you have any recommendations for interesting places to see in the city? I just arrived here today and I’m excited to explore!”

Amelia leaned back in her chair once more, taking another drink as the person introduced themselves. "Pleasure to meet ya, Aster!" She said, holding her ale out to the maiden. She watched Aster as she dug into the bag she carried, producing 2 cakes. She grinned as Aster explained that one was for her, for letting her sit there
"Ah, you owe me nothing! But, thanks anyway." She sat up, taking the cake and digging in. She finished it rather quickly, brushing the crumbs from her. Best cake she'd had in a while, she could say that with certainty. "That was quite the cake." She smiled warmly, before taking another swig of her ale.
"Hmm, and interesting places, you say?" She tilted her head and thought, looking up. "Well, I just arrived pretty recently myself, been travelling around for a bit now. But, I find the docks quite interesting." She looked back down and shrugged. "They're quite fun, watching all those ships go in and out." She took another swig of her ale, dropping the last few drops into her mouth. Shame, guess she'd have to order another. Amelia looked at Aster, sitting across from her. "Gonna order some more drinks, you want anything?" She thought for a moment, then stood onto her chair and waved her arms, catching everyone's attention. "This rounds on me!" She cried, looking to the friendly barkeep. He smiled to her, a warm and friendly one. Cheers and hollers went up, everyone obviously in an even better mood now. The ones who had a drink raised it, and the ones who didn't hastily ordered a drink.
She sat back down into her chair, obviously satisfied. She ought to stop doing this if she didn't want to drain all her money, but a tavern that was happy was a tavern she liked. "Guess I should've waited for you to respond, sorry about that." She chuckled, leaning back.
Amelia stretched her arms back, looking around to the jovial tavern. "Say, should we get some food? We can eat and keep chatting." She nodded to Aster, standing up to go get them both some drinks and food, but waiting for Asters response.

Aster smiled back at the compliment, always happy when her food could spread a little joy. Food was always at it's best when it was enjoyed with others, in her opinion.
“I’m glad you liked it! I was worried they might have gotten a bit squished on the journey but they seem to have survived ok!”
She let out a cheer and raised her glass with the rest of the bar, the mood infectious. Letting out a warm laugh as she leaned back into her chair, she replied:
“The docks sound delightful! I do love people watching, and I only got to see them briefly when I arrived into port this morning. Honestly, everything I’ve seen today has been fascinating! I’d never left my village before this, and I love the whole atmosphere of this city. Every corner i look in there's something happening. And don’t worry, I’m not one to turn down a drink!”
Aster hummed quietly to herself as she finished her first drink, stomach starting to rumble at the mention of dinner. Returning Amelia’s nod, she answered:
“I’m also not one to turn down an offer for a warm meal! I eat almost anything, surprise me?”

Amelia nodded, walking to the barkeep and ordering some food and a couple drinks. Mainly just meat, which she requested had lots of spices on one of them. She loved spices, bland food wasn't for her. She waited for the food to be done, before walking back to the table with it. "Food is served." She smiled, placing the food with less spices on it, and taking the one with many to her spot.
She sat into her chair, leaning back. "So, why don't we chat?" She asked, a relaxed smile on her face. She took a bite of her food, savoring the flavor. Ah, just right, thats what she loved about these taverns. They always managed to make the food amazing. Or her taste buds had went numb from the amount of spices. Either worked for her, as long as the food was great.
"As I said before, names Amelia. From the Frost Gale, in that city in the mountains. Lovely place. Used to work at a tavern there, with me brothers. Quaint little place, like some sort of home." She gestures to Aster. "Anything you got?"

Aster accepted the meal gladly, digging in right away and savouring the expertly cooked meat. Not bad at all! She could understand why this place was so popular. There was a note of something in the spices she couldn’t place? Savoury with a little heat, it was delightful. She mentally jotted down a note to ask someone about it later.
Still chewing, her hand in front of her mouth, she replied:
“Well I’m Aster Farralei. I’ve lived just outside of Moonveil village all my life with my mom and dad, until coming to Eclipse City today! I loved my village a lot but I’m hoping to be able to help a lot more people as I travel than just those in Moonveil. I’m a bit of a cook, as you could probably tell from the cakes, so I’m also hoping to learn a lot of new recipes and find new flavours to incorporate into my food.”
Aster polished off the rest of her meal and drink quickly, leaning back into her chair with a full stomach and pleasant smile. Her cheeks were a bit warm from the alcohol.
“That was delicious, thank you for the treat!”
She glanced outside the window, noting the time.
“Could I perhaps interest you in an evening walk around the docks then? I could use a cool breeze on my face.”

Amelia smiled, digging in and finishing up her food quickly. The food was amazing, she could see why this place was so loved. She nodded as Aster talked, speaking about herself. "Moonveil village, you say? Never been to it, probably a place I'll go visit soon though." She nodded as Aster asked if she'd like to go walk around for a bit, get some cool air. "That sounds like a lovely idea! And, its no problem for the food, wouldn't be a tavern experience without it." She Stood up, brushing some debris of the meal from her cloak.
Amelia nodded to Aster, extending a hand to help her up. "Well then, shall we depart?"

Aster took Amelia’s hand gladly, tying her capelet back on and throwing her satchel back over her shoulder. She headed out of the tavern into the cooler night air, spotting a beautiful crescent moon overhead as she looked up.
As she started towards the dock at a leisurely stroll, she reveled in the atmosphere of the city at night. Despite the late hour she could still hear the hustle and bustle of the residents of the city, it never growing truly quiet like it would back home. Lanterns lit the main paths with warm shadows, highlighting the signs of stores now closed for the evening. While she had always been more of a fan of the sun and the day, she could tell the evenings here had their own unique charms too.
Turning to Amelia, she spoke:
“Moonveil is lovely! Definitely worth a visit, though of course you could argue that I'm biased. If you are ever in need of medicinal herbs there’s a wonderful garden for those. The tavern there isn’t too bad either!”
Seeing a cat hugging the building on her right Aster bends down, calling the grey kitty over and giving it a few good scratches on the chin.
“I’ll have to add Frost Gale onto my list of places to visit once I'm settled here in the city! I want to eventually see all kinds of new places.”

Amelia took a deep breath, inhaling in the fresh scent of the night air. It was cool and a bit crisp, with the seasons still in the midst of changing. Even with the background hustle of the busy city, it was quite peaceful. The calm air was still tonight, a bit damp from a recent storm. It felt cool on Amelia's face, the dewy, cool night air clinging to her cloak and skin.
Not in a bad way, though. It added to the atmosphere of the calm that was settling over the pair, creating another element of the enjoyable evening. There was background noise, dulled down from the tavern door. The faint sounds of the city around them could also be heard, as they walked away from the noisy tavern.
As the two approached the docks, the bustling of busy crews could be seen, preparing for their day on the sea tomorrow. Or unloading from the day, people from crews were doing both. It was pleasant to just go and people watch here, the ones working on the docks didn't seem to mind all that much about some passerby's staring. Probably not very uncommon here, for it was quite fascinating to watch.
She listened to the water lapping at the wooden boards, a faint and light thud happening when the water pushed a lose railing board into the solid and sturdy boards of the walkway. She could hear some birds flapping about, diving and swooping around with grace. It was fun to watch them, the birds just flying carelessly.
"I've been to Moonveil once before, an earthquake that had happened there let a bunch of chickens loose. I was hired to help, not a huge fan of those little things." She laughed, shaking her head. No sir, she did not like them at all. She stretched her arms up, looking at the cat that Aster gave a couple scratches scurry away into the night.
She smiled as Aster mentioned that she'd add the Frost Gale to her places to go. "I can say with certainty that you will need some warm clothes. I lived in Bleak Fort, in the dwarven city there. Quite a nice place, used to work at a tavern there. Because if theres one thing we all love, its beer." She gave another laugh, even more hearty and loud than the first one.
Amelia turned to Aster and blinked. "Oh, wait. Did I already mention that?" She smiled and chuckled. "Sorry, age is catching up faster than I hoped!" She shook her head, shrugging it off. "anyways, isn't this lovely to watch? All these crews just working steadily, its amazing."
The dwarf looked at Aster, the wood elf maiden standing a bit taller than her, but not by much. A couple more inches and they'd be the same height. "If you'd like, I've got loads of stories from the tavern. Like this one time, some patron offered to fix our chairs for us, for free!" She smiled, remembering that day. "Turns out they were a bunch of mimics, biting everything that got near then. Heck of a day getting them out! We still laugh at that."
Amelia's features brightened as she spoke, the dwarven woman smiling at the ocean, seemingly lost in her own thoughts. She blinked and shook her head, smiling less brightly. Was this the right choice? It was always weighing on her mind, telling these stories did her no good in banishing those thoughts.
Too late now, she supposed. She was too far into this to turn back. She directed her attention back to Aster, tilting her head. "Gotta ask, are you a cook? Those were some mighty fine cakes back in the tavern. If you aren't, you surely could be! I'd be your top customer." She grinned, putting her hands on her hips in a confident, 'I totally would' way, her features bright again.
