They had gotten a large haul this time. A cloth-covered Stag draped over Hjallrigg's shoulders made them seem just a little bit taller as they pushed into the back alley behind the large bustling tavern. The beast was already skinned and the antlers removed. Hide traded for leather, Antlers traded for replacement tools.
This was still their favorite place to deliver too... Whenever Riggs was in town they brought their best catch to The Broken Cauldron. After the transaction was finished they were ushered through the kitchen into the warm main room.
The huge cauldron in the middle of the space was the base of a sturdy stage, the large crack down one side showed a slight glow from the lights held within that would change color to set the illumination of the performers on top of it. Off went Riggs hat onto the table, Scarf unwound from their neck and large coat shed like a spent cocoon around them in the small booth. Their feet didn't touch the ground in this one... but that was fine, because they could see the stage perfectly.
Of course a crowded space like this didn't have quite as many tables as it needed too. Not when some came just to see their favorite shows. That and the free meal made this one of Riggs favorite spots in this place. After all they brought some of the more exotic meats that could be found in this frosty wasteland for specials and fun new recipes.
"Here ya' go Riggy" A large plate was thunked down in front of them steaming with potatoes, meat and some sort of purple gravy, and even a little muffin, "On tha' house as always for the cutest hunter we got." The Waitress ruffled their bangs in familiarity. "Chef has a list for you to look out for when your done. He's gettin real creative."
"Pfft. Leave my hair out of it. I aint the cutest thing anywhere, I'm just the smallest." Their eyes followed the plate hungrily. "Yeah yeah tell him I'll do my best as always."
"An if it gets much busier at the bar I might have to pop a few people at your booth. Sorry but... you know." She shrugged apologetically.
"Yeah yeah I know. Thanks for the heads up Alyse. And take a break before the rush ok? You're gonna fall on your face one of these days." Riggs pulled their cultery out of the rolled napkin and gingerly placed them where they go on the table before they shuffled closer and tucked the napkin in their shirt. "Plus I can't be mad at company when the food here makes you forget your own name."
Alyse left with a chuckle back to the host's stand as Riggs methodically started to dig in.

His stay so far in the Bleakfort had been anything but bleak as his experiences had all been new or comforting. The locales had told him several times since he arrived that if he liked the street vendors and stalls then he would love The Broken Cauldron for it made food like no other and had increasingly interesting specials and seasonal foods.
Arriving at the restaurant he soon discovered it was much more then that as he took in all that it was. It had a stage and a bar as he had come to know it, followed by plenty of booths and seating, although at the moment it looked quite packed and full. The smells however stopped him from turning heel and running out the door.
Moving towards the barkeep he asked them if they had any spaces available to which they told him to head towards a specific booth that already had a Dwarven occupant at it. Nodding to them he lowered his hood to reveal a young but confidant face framed by auburn locks and an absurdly long pony tail that seemed to coil and go into his cloak, its full length hidden from view.
Locking his emerald eyes onto his eating companion he proceeded to walk towards and seat himself at the booth before looking off to the stage then back at his companion.
"Hello there! I see you already have your food, how is it here? Everyone kept telling me it was to die for..."
His eyes wandered back to the stage as he set his staff against the divider between the booths, making sure to prop it at such an angle so that it had no chance of being a tripping hazard.

Hjallrigg was hoping that it would have taken longer for newcomers to be shown to their booth instead of seated at the bar... but they knew how busy the Broken Cauldron could get somedays. They had hoped most that a show would start soon but the stage stood empty still with the glowing lights within slowly changing colors.
"Mhmm" They muttered around the food in their mouth as they looked the young human up and down. This one had a lot of hair. A ponytail ages longer than the one Riggs sported most days coiled around this human... it impressed them. Imagine never cutting your hair as long as you lived...
"Ginma?" They said after swallowing recognizing some of the symbols and colors of this person's attire. "But not from here right? I'm a hunter. I catch a lot of the meat they use here... sometimes the weird stuff. Hjallrigg."

The person in front of him mentioned Ginma and that elicited a nod from Kwang as he looked over the briefest of menu's that he was provided, "Yep! I am one of the Keeper's of the Flame. Its a monastery in the Arid Mesa...", at the mention of them being the hunter that supplies the meat for this place Kwang smiled, it was always nice to now that people on the mainland also did things to survive like normal people... and not just use Solars for everything. Money was still odd as a concept to him, but he also had noticed the convenience of it at times.
Telling the waitress when she came back that he would like the meat and veggie stew he spoke to his companions again, "Do you know of any good places around here to see? I am on a pilgrimage to see all of Ginma's creations...".

"Sounds hot." Riggs gave a grimace at the brief description of the desert and then pondered the next question around a bite of food. "mmhhh"
"I would say most of the normal types of things to see are in town. There's the sludge pits, Some shopping... There are usually quite a few shows on here... I think we might get one soon." Riggs mopped up some gravy with a bread roll. "Other than that its just ice and cold. The woods is icy, the icefields have a pretty light show thing in the sky if you catch it... some wild life if you know where to look. I'm not sure what you want to see if I am honest... There are some dwarven holds around too."
Hjallrigg took a long drink of their glass and cleared their throat a little before wiping off a hand to reach over the table.
"Hjallrigg... by the way."

He listened intently to his dinner partner's words as they talked, eating his food once it was brought to him. Without skipping a beat while eating he responded between bites, "It's very hot to most, but we don't mind. I actually find the cold odd.", taking a brief respite when the bread was bought he slathered the few slices he was given with butter before continuing, "I have been to the sludge pits! That place is great but poorly named..... As far as outside of the town? Yeah its kinda bleak... But It's still a beautiful creation of Ginma in its own way."
At the mention of a show he smiled widely and paused his eating to speak empathically, "Oh like story telling? I love story time.", he had never seen a 'show' as it were but he thought he would love to at least as it sounded fun.

Riggs raised an eyebrow at the young man in front of them. Their hand still held out for a few more seconds before they pulled it back. No use waiting for a handshake. Instead the hand went back to their drink to pull it closer. Hjallrigg still would have liked to know their name though... but well if they never met again it might not matter. Plenty of people Riggs had met they never crossed paths with again.
"I don't know when the next one starts up but... Oh nevermind." Riggs looked to see the colors cast on the cauldron changing and shifting. A pair of younger humans climbed to the top of the stage dressed in cloaks that covered them from neck to toe.
"GOOD EVENING ALL!" Shouted the girl to a round of clapping and shouted greetings back.
"My brother and I would like to tell you a story. One of Danger and deceit! The tale of the White Shadow." A few whoops graced the crowd.
"And Love!" Exclaimed the brother. "For every good story has a bit of love in it."

He listened to Hjallrigg and was about to comment before he was immediately attention diverted to the commotion that happened up on the stage, his focus becoming laser locked onto the performers as they spoke and began to spin whatever tale the WHITE SHADOW was. The setup seemingly to him like what some of the senior monks and elders would do for the younglings to scare them away from certain areas in the Mesa.
"Well met Hjallrigg... What's this story they are talking about? I have never heard of the White Shadow.", he made air quotes around the name as he found it amusing to say the least. Taking another bite of his soup he talked in between the performers but in a tone that wasn't disruptive, "Kwang-Il by the way..."

"Nice to meet you Kwang-Il." Riggs shook their head the smallest amount amused by this young human. "It's really more of a dramatic telling. It's just a story about how the dwarf who founded this place found the hot springs... supposedly looking for his love who got lost in the snow."
The performers on stage got out white ribbons to show the icy winds and the girl played the part of the ghost leading the man into the eye of a snow storm. Then eventually leading him to a weak area that had him falling into the deeper caverns around this place full of hot spring steam and mushrooms.
"No one is really sure if that's the real story of this place or if its just that we all decided to build it here. But there's a flower called Winter's Queen named after the ghost woman though." Riggs ate a bit more of their food as the brother enacted the mans struggle through the winds.
