He had taken many jobs in life as a questing knight, from all sorts of people who had gotten in contact with either the Order or he had met in a tavern or simply at a job board, the one that he found himself currently preparing for however was something new to him entirely. He had found some local merchants who were apparently in a tough spot concerning a much larger expeditionary force bound for the Arid Mesa, that had apparently been stealing workers with promises of greater pay, promises that hadn't been realized yet nonetheless! That alone was enough to get Gabe's blood pumping as he waited for another the merchants had found to help sabotage the massive shipping vessel the expedition had hired.
He didn't have much in the way of combat items or even trickery to aide him, but he was a beast of a man at six foot eight inches in height, and effectively a wall of solid muscle with a singular purpose of disrupting the plan of what he viewed as villain's. Coupled with his enhanced strength and training he was more then confident that he could think of something to cause severe damage to the shipping vessel itself at least, ruining the exploitative expedition before it ever left shore.
He had hoped that whomever would be assigned to help him brought some ranged skill to the party, but it mattered not as he would do his best to protect them and see their mission accomplished. As he waited near the entrance to the docks, he pulled his hood over his face and showed his back to the main street, a lion's head symbol square in the middle of his cloak meant to be the symbol his future companion was to look for.

Calliope looked around amazed and excited, her golden eyes roaming over her surroundings as she bounced around, hardly able to contain her joy at getting to see the city. She had begged one of the druid to take her along on the supply run so she could see it for the first time. Of course they were hesitant as she was so young and being deaf could make things hard in a new environment but she got to go so long as sol and balt stayed by her side. The two were quite unusual being fey type creatures with a fungal appearance but they played and protected calli when needed. So with that she was exploring the city happily, knowing she only had a while before she would have to meet the druid once more to go home. She stopped however seeing the knight and looked amazed and awe struck.
Calli ran over and lightly tugged on his cloak amazed quickly holding up a written note to the man. "Are you a real knight? I've always wanted to meet one! I wish to be one when I am older!" is what was scribbled on the page. The girl was quite short and appeared to be no older than 8, her yellow eyes shining with hope as her tail swayed excitedly behind her. On either side of her stood two older and taller mushroom like figures who were a bit confused

Whilst waiting he was graced by the most curious of sights that had graced him in a long while as he felt his cloak be tugged on. He looked down to see a curiously short and as he took the situation in further, young purple skinned Tiefling girl with gold eyes, far more then his own amber colored orbs. Smiling down at her he saw she had a piece of paper with words written upon them which drew him to a single thought as he had dealt with plenty of deaf or hard of hearing people back home with the order. After all you can only take a hammer to the helmet so many times before it causes a problem. Speaking and signing to her incase she read lips or signed he used his most basic of sign language knowledge to ask his first question, "Are you deaf?", he made a shushing sign below his lips before pointing at his right ear and then the girl, all while speaking as well with clear mouth motions.
His own father had lost his hearing in his left ear and while it wasn't total deafness it still didn't make it an easier to not do some things to help communicate, that didn't involve always shouting. He had no intention to keep her question at bay for long though as he spoke to her purposefully cadenced and with proper mouth movements, "I am a Knight yes. You can be one too if you train real hard and are diligent. Never let anyone tell you that you cant be okay?", as he had already made an assumption it was probably not in the best taste to say what he had, but he meant it. Not that he would share it, but he was mana cursed and that meant his prospects in a mana filled world were minimal at best, but he had never let it hamper him and he wouldn't until his dying breath. Their disabilities may be different but it was no less severe for having a place in wider society.
"What are you doing here by yourself little one?", he would give her as much time as she needed to respond to him and even lowered himself to a kneeling position so he could be more level with her in an attempt to make her more comfortable and hopefully not intimidated at all by his massive height, something he was always hyper aware of.

Calliope's eyes widened seemingly more amazed as she nodded and signed "I am yes!" she smiled and watched his signs and mouth movements, her tail swaying more behind her "I hope so! The village worries about the dangers of it but there is no nobler position and I want to help people!" she replied with her signs happily
Once again reading his signs and movements she quickly and eagerly replied "Ah I begged one of the druids to bring me along to see the city! I have always wanted to you see! I have never seen so many people around before and their are no knights in the village so I wanted to explore while we are here!" she signed in reply. She was quite excited and could hardly believe she was talking to a real life knight and the fact that he could sign only amazed her more as most new faces didn't seem to know how to sign. Then again however she hardly saw new people as the town didnt get too many visitors. She looked at the others armor and outfit as if it were pure gold or lit by the gods as she was astounded. She had only seen knights in her books

He couldn't help but smile at her excitement at least. Her signs were a bit fast but he kept up as best he could with them before he spoke back to her, "Well outside of your age, I don't see why they should be so worried. If you're a knight it means you have been trained. You're strong and reliable and people shouldn't worry about you, it's your job to worry about them, you know? Keep at it young one, you'll get there one day.", She was earnest, that much was clear and that meant more then anything at her current age. As long as she didn't lose the hope and get going that was all that mattered.
He nodded along to her reasoning for coming here and stroked his beard for a moment before he responded to her, "The city is quite a thing to see. I don't blame you!", he let out a soft chuckle before listening to what else she had to say and responded, "Some of us are everywhere, some of us just stay in forts and castles. I am not surprised that you haven't seen a knight before but we are not that different from anyone else, just a bit more skilled is all.", he looked around for the druids she spoke of and saw no one that matched that general description so to speak which prompted him to ask, "Where is the druid that was escorting you? They are probably worried about you.", he slowly stood up at this and offered the girl his right hand as he looked towards the docks, "Should we go look for them? I am Gabriel by the way."

She smiled and signed "Exactly! If I can just convince them I am sure I could pass the academy exams and be well on my way to being a proper knight in no time!" she signed with a bright look on her face "Wow castles?! They are so big! I hear they are really pretty inside!" she continued excitedly before reading his next question "They are in the market. I asked if I could see the docks for a moment at least but I guess it would be good to let them know where I am again and they can meet you as well Maybe you can tell them about the academy!" she added before taking his hand, bouncing heel to toe with a bright smile before leading the other into the crowd looking for the druid poking a familiar figure in the arm and after a moment a tall moon-elf turned to the two "Ah you're back from the docks" he smiled and raised a brow seeing the knight with her "she isn't in any sort of trouble is she?" he asked surprised and worried for the girl as he awaited a reply. Calliope frowned and signed that she made a friend and wasnt in trouble

He nodded with warm smile at her obvious joy with saying she would be a knight in no time if she put the effort in. She was right and he could see it even now as one's willpower was the most important component to manifesting what it was they wanted most after all, "That's the spirit.", watching her hands as she commented on castles he smirked and gave a small chuckle before responding, "They can be, they can also be hideous let me tell you. A castle is and always will be a reflection of its owner. Keep that in mind as you get older okay? If something doesn't feel right something isn't right.", it was cryptic to an extent but he had experienced false appearances and pretenses plenty in his life and it was the single best advice he could give to one so sincere in their pursuit.
Listening to her explain they were in the market as she grabbed his hand and began leading him through the crowd as she looked for her Druid friend. he couldn't help but smile and the gesture and let her lead. After all what could happen while he was on watch no? They would be fine and he was closer to his task anyhow so it really was killing two birds with one stone so to speak. When they came upon the moon elf man that Calliope poked he assumed that must be the druid which was only confirmed by the ensuing words the man spoke to him. Raising his other hand as if to say stop he spoke with a gentle warmth, "No trouble at all. Calliope is a bright and motivated one.", He looked towards the docks themselves over the Moon Elf's shoulders as her spotted his target and narrowed his eyes for a moment as he saw them loading what looked like cages covered curiously with cloth as to hide their contents.
"Pardon me, I will be back shortly but... there is something that I think requires my attention at the moment.", looking down to Calliope he smiled as he signed, "Knight business.", speaking again to the man he began to move around him as he did, "I have been hired to stop some possible poachers, and unfortunate colonizers. I would have assumed some one from the Order of Tegrid would be here as well but a quest is a quest."

Calliope nodded focusing and making mental notes of his words determined to keep that in her memory as she worked towards her goal.calliope proudly puffed out her chest reading the knights lips as he complimented her seeming quite proud. The Druid was surprised but smiled “that she is. She makes her village proud” he replied before following the others gaze with a nod
Calliope quickly began signing after hearing his words eyes wide in awe as she said “that’s amazing! Maybe I can help like a true knight! I already helped one village with their crab problems!” She signed proudly wanting to help in even this situation not caring how dangerous it was. She dreamed of knighthood after all. The druids eyes however widened as he quickly touched her arm to gain her attention before shaking his head singing about how it was too dangerous and she was too young and that they should leave it to the nice knight. She huffed a little at that and looked past the Druid hopefully for a second and maybe better opinion in her eyes. She was sure she could help somehow and waited to see an answer from the knight

He watched the Druid and Calliope for their responses or expressions as it may be whilst he moved his eyes back to his target every so often, smiling when the Druid complemented Calliope as it was a good to hear that at least this one saw value in the little one's dreams as they were. However when Calliope began signing that she wanted to help his demeanor would immediately change to a stiffer one as he knew the details of what was to be done, "I understand that you want to be a knight, and I am all for you walking the path, but this mission might be a little too dangerous for you at the moment. I am to destroy that ship over there.", He pointed to it while signing to her so she could see the docked galleon and all of the dockworkers that were loading it up.
Looking to the Druid as he reinforced in Calliope that it was much to Dangerous but seeing her earnestness in wanting to join in and be a "knight", he shook his head and took a deep breath before looking skyward and then signing to the both of them, "I could use a lookout if you really want to help. When its a little later in the night I plan to siege the ship, and I could use someone who can make a signal maybe? Just to alert me if people are coming while I do what must be done. These people will strip the land of its resources and whatever people they find they will bully or coerce into servitude when they land at their destination... They cannot be allowed to make it that far.", his sense of justice could hopefully be made out in the way he signed his words with emphasis and conviction.

Calliope lit up as he signed, her tail practically wagging behind her, her ears perked up as she looked to the Druid for permission who was mulling it all over. Seeing her puppy dog eyed pleading expression however he sighed and gave in though gave her explicit rules of staying out of sight and a distance from where it would be happening and that they would not be interfering with the fight itself. She nodded enthusiastically at this and hopped up and down a few times in her joy. She excitedly began signing to the knight and Druid explaining how she could alert him. She explained that her plan was summoning a seedling upon the knights shoulder. It would be the starting signal and could also heal some surface wounds for the knight to aid him whilst on the ship.
She looked back and forth between the two for approval like a student presenting an idea to parents to be proud of her suggestion. She smiled at the both just excited to be able to do something to help. This would be her second quest and she was more than ready to take another step towards her goal. She would be a knight no matter what
