Sarris thought for a moment at his question. Pulling out a dagger, she said, "I would rather stay with you."
It was not rocket science. Mages needed the physical protection of others to be effective and Sarris was not really a fighter. She could change into animals and maul people, but large insects were a different category. "I can turn invisible," she said. She took her cloak off and started to hand it to him. The cloak changed colors from black to red and then to brown. "This would allow you to blend into the surroundings. It changes colors based on what you are thinking," Sarris said carefully.
She made a pattern of a glen with a deer eating grass. It was not perfect, but it was impressive.
"Maybe we want to wait till dark?" she asked. She knew that most insects were less active when it was dark. But these liked the bulbs that glowed at night.
"I can create a wall around the nest if it is on the ground and then put a lid on it," she offered.

Her preference was noted with a stiff nod, Sable's gaze moving from her back to the clearing that was just beyond where they took cover and began planning. Knee braced beneath him, he attempted to shift forward enough to catch a glimpse of what they were facing or how many, but the more he pressed forward, the more he would stand out, stark black hair and clothing in a forest of greens and browns. And being spotted now would be more than a little problematic.
It seemed as though Sarris had a solution of sorts, though, her mention of making herself invisible earning a raised eyebrow as he recognized that spell. The cloak she offered him was easily accepted, as well, and he found himself more than a little curious about it when she explained what it could do, that it was magic, the kind that was held in items and useful in a way that didn't feel vastly outside of his comprehension.
...were he still a hunter, he would have asked after it and where he might acquire one for himself. As it was, he gave her a quiet, "Thank you," before donning it quickly, the hood pulled over so that the forested colors could aid him as he held onto the image of mottled patterns of green and brown, satisfied to see it change as such... and only slightly uneasy about it.
The suggestion of waiting until dark was one he dismissed with a shake of his head. "That is unwise. There are a great many other things that would... come out at night. Some that are more dangerous." They were not in Shadewood, but that did not mean there was less danger within the forest, especially at night.
"...let us press in closer and see how many there are first," he suggested. "But your idea with the nest is a good one. With a wall in place... we could burn it safely. Once the insects are dealt with."
Checking the tension on the bow, Sable drew an arrow but held off on nocking it for the time being. Observe first. Plan second. Attack third.

Sarris places her left hand on Sable’s back and followed behind as quiet as she could. The wind blow across her exposed skin making her shiver. Some of the lose hairs on her head blew across her face.
With her left hand she pulled the hair back out of her face. In her right hand she drew a throwing dagger and readied for the unexpected. She did not know if the insects could see in the dark or worse operated by smell. It made her nervous. Rats she could deal with. Snakes would be okay. But bugs…
As they approached the nesting area, Sarris took a deep breath.
She was glad that Sable was there. She was a city girl and this was not her element. Beneath her for a branch snapped with a loud crack and the area went quiet. All Sarris could hear was her heart beating in her ears.

As the sound of a branch snapping shattered the calm atmosphere that was concealing their approach, instinct nearly bade Sable to freeze in place, to go unnaturally still and become nothing more than a whisper of existence that intermingled with the foliage around him. Were he on his own, were this just another hunt despite his many years out of practice, he would have done just that, the cloak that Sarris lent him making it that much easier to do so.
Sable wasn't alone, though. This wasn't just another foray into the forest in search of prey that could be brought down quickly and carried back to the village. He was a guard, he was aiding a woman in determining what was destroying the local flora, and she had just alerted whatever it was in the clearing beyond of their presence, the thud as it landed all but felt beneath the souls of their boots as a clicking and chattering sound began to draw closer.
...but he only heard one of them. The insect was not communicating with another, that much he was... only partially certain of.
"Eyes... wings... legs... or abdomen," Sable said under his breath, turning to glance at Sarris. "Everything else will be armored." Arrow set to the bowstring, he tested the tension of it, shifting his weight forward in preparation. "I'll lead. You may use me as cover."
They only had a few more seconds before they were found, and with a final look shared between them, Sable nodded once in reassurance before rising to his full height and breaking cover.
Fate was kind to reveal that his ears had not betrayed him as he darted into the clearing. There was only one, a large creature that looked like a fly or... gnat that had dropped to the ground and had been shuffling forward in search of them. Working his way towards the center, Sable made sure that Sarris was following him, and that she was out of the way in the moments where he drew back on the bow, held his breath, and exhaled with the release.
With a twang of sound, the arrow cut through the air and buried itself in one of the joints beneath a massive, clear wing. The resulting screech-like sound confirming that his aim had been true as it wheeled around to face its attacker, a wave of thunderous buzzing sound filling the area as it flapped the others and failed to gain flight for the moment.
