ANATH KALI
[ə-naθ ka-li]
Anath Kali's true form is a dark, churning vortex of a nearly 900-foot diameter. Good thing it can't materialise on this side of the plane of existence, huh?
In her visible form, Kali is 180 cm (5' 11") tall. She has dark, dark skin of which nobody can quite make out the colour, but let's call it a mix of midnight blue and taupe.
Her lifestyle ensures that she's built well enough to hold her own in a fight even unarmed. Anath Kali wears simple waterproof clothes that allow her to move freely. Her favourite is a sea-green cloak.
Anath Kali has sharp facial features and a furrowed brow, giving her a constantly brooding appearance. Her eyes are pitch black and glittery. She wears her hair in braids.
Kali isn't one for eloquent speeches and well-phrased quips. Most days, she shows up to the scene, gets her work done, and tries to avoid social interaction. When she does speak to strangers, it's inevitably a conversation full of stuttered motion and silences.
Despite being half-human herself, she observes the species with an almost scientific curiosity; she's never really felt like one of them, anyway. She is fond of animals, though.
In her younger years, Kali was rash and reckless. She still has a streak of impulsivity in her, but on a good day it gets channeled as quick reflexes. Her strong sense of justice gives her the tendency to be overprotective of the "little guy".
Kali's father was a human merchant who tried to summon a deity to help him expand his business. He expected the goddess of seafarers, but instead was visited by her cohort, the deity of the albatross. He was a kind-hearted god, and allowed the merchant to ask for any one thing. Said the merchant: I ask only that you accompany me when the seas are rough, and in return, I shall bear your burdens too.
Both parties kept their deal. As the years passed, the Albatross God and the dedicated merchant fell in love. They were inseparable, and the goddess of seafarers granted them a child to love and care for. All was well.
Until a bad storm hit their ship, the goddess only stood by, the lovers sank to the bottom of the Luna Sea, and their daughter was washed ashore the Marshflats. There she was raised by a pair of Aviankin until the age of 20. She left home with nothing but clothes and medicine, seeking to explore the coast that she was found on.
Things happened. She isolated herself from society. She now roams the Luna Sea, helping voyagers in trouble whenever she can. Those who know her have dubbed her "Anath", meaning answer, because it's like she answers their prayers for help. It's a cool title and all, but she still calls herself Kali, because that's who she is.
