Ranger
Rangers are creative hunters who have learned to use basic material to create dangerous traps in their environment. They are skilled craftsmen who can create a trap, hide it, then force their enemies to make a mistake, capitalizing and taking advantage of the situation. They are also skilled trackers, able to read their environments and move through the wilderness unimpeded. In order to purchase levels in the Prestige Class Ranger you must meet the following requirements.
- Must have master in Animal Handling, Stealth or Earth Domain Skill (not all three, just one) to obtain level one and two
- Must have Exalted in Animal Handling, Stealth or Earth Domain Skill (not all three, just one) to obtain level three and four
Level One
50 Solars to purchase level one
Camouflaged Master:
Rangers have mastered the art of disappearing, blending themselves into the environment. A Ranger can completely vanish by simply sitting in a bush or hiding in a tree. If a ranger is obscured by nature, such as a bush, tree leaves or rocks, they can alter their image to look like that natural environment. They can do things like lay in tall grass, hide under sand or blend into a thicket of vines. As long as the ranger remains still they will become one with the environment, unable to be seen until they move. They can also hide their traps, blending the traps into the environment as well. This lets the ranger hide their traps, unable to be found by normal people.
Novice Trapper:
You may choose two traps from the Trap Table to add to your inventory. You now have access to those traps and can use them in your topics. These traps can be set up in just a few seconds, quickly building and prepping the trap. While it can be done quickly they still require focus, and can not be set up in the heat of battle.
Genius Tracker:
Rangers have spent their time tracking both wild animals and other humanoids, learning the difference between an animal moving own instinct, and a person moving with purpose. Rangers can now follow tracks left behind by anyone walking, regardless of the terrain, be it sand, dirt or grass. They can also tell the difference between humanoid tracks and animal tracks, even if the tracks have been altered by effects or spells.
Level Two
75 Solars and level one to purchase level two
Adept Trapper:
You may choose two additional traps from the Trap Table to add to your inventory. You now have access to those traps and can use them in your topics.
Increased Senses:
While rangers are great at locating their prey with sight, it is not the only sense they rely on. Rangers have trained all of their senses, including the ability to hear and smell better than normal. This allows them to track prey or detect enemies without seeing them. They can hear minor sounds, able to detect anyone despite them having sound suppressing abilities. They can also smell other creatures, able to track or find enemies just by their smell alone.
Level Three
100 Solars and level two to purchase level three
Journeyman Trapper:
You may choose two additional traps from the Trap Table to add to your inventory. You now have access to those traps and can use them in your topics. These traps can be set up in just a few seconds, quickly building and prepping the trap.
Combat Trapper:
The ranger has spent enough time setting up and building their traps that they have become even faster when it comes to building them. They can now set up a trap in a matter of seconds, allowing them to do it during a single post and while in combat. With the quick movement of their hands they can have their traps ready to go before anyone realizes what had just happened.
Trail Tracker:
The tracking of the ranger has gotten even better, allowing them to use almost inhuman abilities when locating others. If on a road, trail or path that has been man made or carved out by an animal, they can place their ear to the path, detecting how many people or animals are on that path up to a mile away. They will not know who or what they are, but will get an accurate count of how many and roughly how large they are. This allows a ranger to continue tracking prey or even avoid an area with dangerous creatures.
Level Four
125 Solars and level three to purchase level four
Expert Trapper:
You may choose an additional two traps from the Trap Table to add to your inventory. You now have access to those traps and can use them in your topics.
Keen Eye:
You have spent most of your time working with traps, creating and setting them up. You have now learned how to easily spot a trap, making it much easier for you to locate other peoples traps. You also have gained an intimate knowledge of these traps, allowing you to disarm one without triggering it if it has not already been triggered.
Urban Tracker:
Rangers at this level have become so good at tracking others that objects, walls and buildings no longer get in their way. By placing their hands on a structure, such as a created wall or a building, the ranger can get a sense of who all is in that building. They get a mental map of any living creature, be it animal or humanoid. While they do not know exactly who it is, they do get a head count of how many are in their and roughly where they are located. This allows rangers to be prepared when getting ready to infiltrate an area.
Trap Table
-Caltrops- Caltrops are small metal barbs, normally with four pointy ends that all stick upwards. These come in a set of 10 and can be laid on the ground, making it hard for others to cross over them without getting hurt. The caltrops can also be buried in the ground, masking their presence and injuring anyone who steps on them. Anyone who has stepped on a caltrop will have their speed reduced by half for their next post. |
-Bear Trap- A bear trap is a medium sized metal ring with jagged teeth on the top end. The middle of the ring is fitted with a pressure plate. When enough pressure is applied to the plate, it will spring the trap, causing both jagged ends to clamp shut, tearing through whatever triggered the trap. These can be laid on the ground or buried, making walking over them extremely dangerous. Anyone who triggers the trap will take an immense amount of damage and will be unable to move for their entire next post. (must have caltrops to choose) |
-Alarm Wire- A simple trap with a piece of wire, tape and a small bell. You line an area with wire, placing it in a door way, between trees or between others objects. The wire is extremely hard to see and easy to miss if not aware of its presence. When the wire is touched or triggered it will ring the bell, alerting you, and anyone else, of their presence. |
-Explosive Wire- A more complex version of the alarm wire. This trap replaces the bell with a small flask of flammable oil. Much like the previous trap, the wire can be strung up between to objects and is incredibly hard to see, with the flask being painted to blend in to the area. When the wire is touched or triggered it will ignite the flask, causing a small, localized blast to fill the immediate area. (Must have alarm wire to choose) |
-Pitfall- A unique and creative trap designed to make creating traps quick. The pitfall trap is a small metal device that can be placed on the ground. It will then quickly bore a hole into the ground, creating a 5x5 hole that is five feet deep. This hole will remain in the ground, and anyone who falls into the hole will suffer damage and find themselves trapped, either remaining in the hold or using their next post to get out of it. |
-Spike Trap- A modified version of the pitfall, this trap comes with a similar digging device, that when placed on the ground bores a 5x5x5 hole into the ground. This hole however comes equipped with several sharpened stakes placed at the bottom, pointing upwards. If someone falls into this hole, they might be impaled or stabbed by the spikes, preventing them from getting out of the hole for the next post. (Must have pitfall to choose) |
-Noose Trap- A magical trap that sets itself. This trap comes in the shape of a small piece of rope in a circle. When placed on the ground it buries and anchors itself. When stepped on or triggered the rope will constrict, binding the limb that triggered the trap. The rope will continue downwards into the ground, holding the person restrained for the next post. The rope can be cut or dug up to help escape. |
-Net Trap- A similar trap to the noose trap, a coiled up piece of rope that gets placed or buried in the ground. When stepped on or triggered the rope will fire out a net instead of wrapping around the limb. This net will be extremely thick and will restrain the targets entire body, wrapping around their limbs and restricting their movement. Those inside the net will be unable to move for the next two post, or until the net is cut. The weight of the net makes it incredibly hard to cut from the inside, needing a full post to cut, however can easily be cut from the outside. (Must have noose trap to choose) |
-Spring Loaded- A small metal device that can be attached to a surface, such as the floor, a wall or other structure. This device will drill a very small hole into the surface, then equip itself with a spring loaded arrow, bolt or other object. The next time a living creature walks in front of this hole, the spring will trigger, firing the contained object directly at them. The hole itself is small and easy to miss, and can only contain a thin or small object. |
-Gas Cloud- A small metal device that can be attached to a surface, such as the floor, a wall or other structure. This device will drill a very small hole into the surface then fill itself with gas. The next time a living creature walks in front of this hole, the gas will be released, filling a very small amount of space outside of this hole. This gas is extremely toxic and will make anyone who breathes it in sick to their stomach. They will begin to vomit, eyes water and will be forced to move away from the trap. (Must have Spring loaded to choose) |
-Rat Trap- A decently sized piece of thin wood with a very sticky adhesive side to it. This board can be placed on a surface, mounted to an object or even buried with the adhesive side upright. Anything that touches or steps on this sticky surface will find themselves glued to it, unable to move. The surface will begin to lightly burn, damaging flesh and burning clothing. The target will remain stuck to the surface until they are able to pull themselves off, requiring a full post worth of effort to release themselves. |
-Oil Trap- A decently sized piece of thin wood with a very oily side to it. This board can be placed on a surface, mounted to an object or even buried with the adhesive side upright. The oily surface will coat anyone who touches or steps on it in a thin layer of oil, and will then spark from the pressure of the board. This trap will attempt to ignite anyone who triggers it on fire, causing the flames to spread up their body. The trap will not restrain them, allowing them to move, however for each second they remain on fire, the flames will get worse. (Must have rat trap to choose) |
