There is an old saying amongst Charonians far and wide.
If ye be broke, GO GET A JOB, YE LAZY LOUT.
No one said it was a clever saying. But that is the reason why Everett finds himself in the mountains of the Dragon's Cradle despite being much more comfortable on the deck of a ship. The call for able hands to assist with the establishment of a new village on the border between Dragon's Cradle and the Ash Lands quickly circulated amongst those looking to earn some extra coin for any kind of work. This, of course, included the one-armed half-elf.
However, his arrival and declaration that he was here to work did not go over too well. The other workers, dwarves, half-orcs, burly humans, and all other manner of rough-and-tumble folk nearly laughed him off. One stressed that the fliers that were distributed across Charon clearly stated "ABLE-BODIED" help, and that someone who could only offer one helping hand would just get in the way.
Everett isn't shocked by this reaction. He's come to expect it from most people especially since he has been trying his best to get mainly deckhand jobs. That's probably why he can keep a smile and be so insistent even when others are laughing in his face or telling him he'll just be a liability. He knows he can do the work if just given the chance.
After some persistence, the others relent and give him some menial tasks like cleaning up around the construction sites and running errands. It's not much, but it's a start. He spends most of the day running around fetching things for the other people working on building houses, fences, walkways, and all other sorts of structures.
Around midday, most of the workers go on break and that's when Everett actually has a lot more to do. He runs food back and forth to the different groups across the area that slowly but surely will become a new village.
He approaches one of the half-orcs working away on something and offers them some food and water.
"It's coming along, good work! Let me know if you want an extra hand. I uh, only got one but I will do my best," he says with a slight laugh.
