Being low on cash was the worst. Sleeping on the ground outside all the time was what Shaa preferred but it also came with the amazing bonus of being a super cheap way of getting around. But, every once in a while, you are far from home and your secret money sock back at the guild, you can sometimes be in need of some extra moolah. To get the money, Shaa occasionally did some odd jobs in whatever town he happened to be in at the time. Some jobs made sense like as bouncer or a bodyguard. Others were more odd like a pet sitter or gardener. He even had a running gig as a messenger for love letters ( different story)
Today, he found himself yet again in the bustling Sol City. Although not a big fan of the city itself, he did have a lot of friends here so he ended up stopping by quite often. This was problematic for him however as touring the city was really expensive and hit him pretty hard in terms of expenses. Today, however, he had lucked out by getting a lead from a friend on a merchant who was looking for some help. Shaa followed his friend’s instructions and wandered into the bustling merchants bazaar towards the center of the city. The streets were busy and full of people milling about checking out the various wares the merchants had to offer. He soon spotted the stall he was looking for and started to saunter over. The man, who looked very busy and flustered but cheerful, scurried about the neat wooden stall looked up and smiled.
Hey! You must be ummm Shawn. Shawn right? Dennis said you were coming. He looks at the fussy man a bit bemused. Umm no sir, close, he gently corrected it’s Shaa and it’s nice to meet you. I understand from Dennis that you might have a job available for me? The man ignores the correction and blusters on a bit. Yes yes! I do Shawn, thank you for coming! It’s been a week, oh what a week. The man, a middle aged half elf by the name of Brogan, fumbled around a crate by his stall. Brogan was heavy set with blonde hair and a crooked smile. He wore a button down shirt with a neatly tailored pair of dark blue overalls. Shaa notes that he also has a largish knife, a little too big for regular use, holstered at his side. After searching the crate a bit , he produces a stack of papers that look like colorful advertisements.
Job’s pretty easy. I am really busy so I need you to post these around town for me. Shaa looks at him curiously and frowns a bit. Sounds pretty easy. I’m not one to turn down work but, are you sure you need someone like me? Brogan laughs a bit and his cheeks go pink. Normally no, but ummm….it got a bit complicated. I got into a bit of a fight with some fellow merchants around here recently. As a result, they have been tearing my advertising down and burning it. I need you to get these up in such a way that their obvious but also, difficult to vandalize. If you happen to catch anybody messing with them..ya know…take care of it. Brogan looked around nervously as if they were talking about some great conspiracy. Shaa had a lot of people try to contract him for violence before and he could tell that this was unfamiliar territory for the half elf. It would have been cute if he wasn’t putting out a soft hit on people. I’ll pay you good money if your up to it. As the two spoke, Shaa noticed a figure walking up to the stall.

Having recently harvested a great deal of her garden, Taki had spent the last few days making all manner of foodstuffs. Canning, baking, smoking and more were finally wrapping up and being stored away. As Taki was placing the last of the packed foods into the storeroom, a tiny face appeared at the entrance.
"Yes Kamina?"
"A letter just came in for you, from the capitol."
"Why thank you, I'll be right there."
Finishing up, she headed up front to inspect the letter. Apparently a merchant in Sol City was requesting aid from any adventurer that would be willing to help them. Tucking the letter into her bag and making sure she had her gear in order. Once she was done, she turned to Kamina and smiled.
"Please tell Shion, Shuna and Hanehiko to make ready, and you'll be joining us as well on this adventure."
"On my way Miss." Said the tiny fae, flitting off through the house to gather them as Taki made sure there would be plenty of food out for the others. Once she was done, she walked out to the courtyard to find the group waiting and ready for travel. Hanehiko floated down from above where she was circling and hovered low enough for Taki to fasten her harness. The others hopped up and and settled in as Taki was finishing, so she joined them. The group took to the sky and headed out over the sea, speeding their way towards Sol City.
When they arrived, she stowed the reigns and gave Hanehiko leave to rest in and around the island. With the others, she made her way into the city and towards the stall indicated by the letter. Even in Sol City, she stood out with her cadre of companions. As she came walking up to the stall, she couldn't help but smile at the sight of the massive Minotaur having a discussion with the stall's owner.
"Well now, it seems I'm not the only one who decided to answer the summons." She said, chuckling softly.

Bodyguard duty for….advertising? Well that was a new one for sure but Shaa certainly had done stranger things for muffin money. No guards, no monsters or mages, no mercs with a vendetta. No cursed items or demons. Just a bunch of merchants being petty? This was going to be a cake walk. How tough could it be.
Already counting the steps to the bakery, Shaa kept an eye on the figure that was approaching them. The closer she got however Shaa could tell, the figure was not alone. More than one person seemed to be shadowing her steps. Ugh, it was never easy. Shaa turns to Brogan with a bit of a huff. You expecting someone else?
The man smiled and blushed a bit, turning one foot in the cobble stone street. Well yes. I need all of the help that I can get. I didn’t know exactly how many people would respond to the summons ya know, but really, it doesn’t matter. I know that this doesn’t seem like a big deal to you but… this is my livelihood. It’s life or death out there. Not with swords, but with the best sales pitch!
Brogan pulls out a large sign from behind the stall. The sign is full of prices and trite slogans as well as a drawing of some sort of talking animal. Shaa wasn’t really the most savvy business person so he just assumed that the sign looked the way that it was supposed to. Ummm neat.
Brogan finally notices the woman and says ohh here’s more! He waves a friendly hand.

With her companions following closely, she stepped up to the stall. Curious about the towering Minotaur, she did her best not to stare as she addressed the vendor.
"Greetings, I am Shitakibo, here to answer your summons." Said the shaman, handing over the letter in her pocket.
"What sort of troubles might you need the assistance with?"
"Well now, I was just explaining to the big fella here that I recently got into a scuffle with some other merchants. They answered this by vandalizing my advertisements, which is hurting my business. If you're willing, would you help me by replacing them... and perhaps whomever is responsible?"
Taki pondered the idea for a moment as the man rambled about the workings of such things and how it affected his business.
"Name's Brogan btw, thank you for coming so quickly."
"No problem at all, and I'll try my best to help out, so long as everyone here is alright with that."
She was a bit wary of the whole thing, so having someone else to work with seemed appropriate. There were many questions she wanted to ask but felt it might be rude to pry into the situation. Hopefully they could catch someone on the other side of this conflict and get the full story, though likely not. She wasn't always keen on working with humans, elves or half-elves, as they tended to muddle the truth with omissions and outright lies... her adventures into the Spider Canopy recently had reinforced this and it made her sigh heavily.
After a deep breath, she looked to her companions.
"Shuna, Shion... shadow us but try to be discreet. Kamina, please stay by my side, I have a feeling your particular talent might be useful in this situation."
"Yes, Miss." They said in unison, the spider and cat wandering off as if they were any other stray creature roaming the city.

Shitakibo? The name didn’t sound familiar which was surprising as something about them seemed dynamic. A bit too dynamic to stay under wraps. It wasn’t just anyone who ran around with minions. Shaa would have to keep an eye on this one. He had a pretty good nose for character and something told Shaa to watch himself. But that was ok, being cautious just made sense but it was no reason to be rude. They were both getting paid after all.
The big Minotaur clears his throat with a burly HRUMPH and holds out a large hand. Hello there. It seems that we will be working on the same goal today. My name is Shaa, it’s nice to meet you. The next few moments would be very telling. There was nothing that said that they HAD to work together, but it might make this very plain job just a little bit more tolerable. But what would she do. Shake his hand? Ignore him. Sick that spider thing on him? Whatever it was, he was ready for it. Of course, getting a new friend was the ideal but he didn’t get by for this long by being careless.
Brogan spoke up. Oh Yes Shitakibo! Your reputation precedes you. I am very glad to have you on board. Brogan blushes a bit. And you too Mr Shaa of course. But we have no time to waste. I can feel my poor ads being maligned by the moment. He pulls out a map of the city and a bunch of fliers. I have marked out the locations for my ads here on this map. If you could, please go to each and make sure it’s still up and in good shape. If not, just add another. Again, if you could catch the ones vandalizing them and ummm deal with them, that would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, the local guards just see the ads as garbage so they won’t arrest anyone. You are really my only chance. Annnd…this sounded like a big but was coming. I only have the one map so…. If you all don’t mind working together…
Fine by me… Shaa was still waiting on the response.

Shaa... the name was familiar, but she couldn't recall where she'd heard it before. She listened to the man's explanation and nodded once he finished.
"That's just fine with me, though I feel our large compatriot might just cause someone to soil themselves by proximity alone... the poor saps." She chuckled softly, hoping to break a bit of the tension of the situation. Looking over the map, she was just as confused by it's layout as she was by cities themselves.
"Would you mind navigating for us Shaa? I'm fine in the wilds finding my way but this map just looks like some fevered nightmare to me." She asked the man, genuinely loathing trying to make sense of it's many intertwined passages and buildings. One nice thing about living on the outskirts of society was the ease of getting where you wanted to go. Most towns had few roads, and only enough buildings to serve the needs of a small community. Still pondering the name, it finally dawned on her where she'd heard it before. A solemn look crossed her features for a few moments before she spoke up.
"Another question if you don't mind... were you acquainted with a bizarre mechanical being adept in Sky magics and unarmed combat by chance?" She inquired, having read about a wild adventure in her mentor's journal they'd left her.

The woman seemed a bit uncomfortable but still seemed friendly enough. That was a good sign at least. Sure, no problem. I’m pretty familiar with the city even without a map so we shouldn’t have a problem getting around. I guess that means you are in charge of these. Shaa hands over the stack of fliers to the shaman feeling a little guilty about having her shlep them around. He would have to watch if it got awkward. Let me know if they get too heavy and I can help out. This was a pretty good start. It was starting to get hot and busy in the market so he felt it best if they got moving.
Shaa would have no problem navigating the back alleys and city streets of the city. Not only did he have a stellar sense of direction and a Minotaur’s knack for mazes, he also had something else. In the last year, he had spent a lot of time here running some extracurricular activities and running away from the local constabulary. He wasn’t about to mention that one however. Slap a map on top of that and he could probably do this blindfolded.
Ok Brogan, I think we have a plan. Based on the map, this won’t take too long so we will be back this afternoon with an update. Splendid! The businessman beamed as he put the final touches on his stall. I will see you this afternoon then. You can give me your report and we’ll settle up your payment yes? Do a good job and there might even be a bonus in it for you. Shaa got the hint. This job was much more about finding the vandals and “ dealing with them” then just sticking some paper on the walls. He already had a very tenuous relationship with the police here so he would avoid causing trouble as much as he possibly could. That would go very badly for him and also his new companion who definitely didn’t sign up for shenanigans. Great, see you later.
As the two started out, Shaa considered the question. A metal being with sky magic. There was only one being that Shaa knew that could fit that description. I don’t suppose you mean Socket do you? If you do, you are the second person to mention them since we parted company awhile back. For an inter dimensional space being , they sure do get around. Yes ,we ended up being friends after we helped each other escape this giant fish and beat some guys up. Good times. Shaa wondered where Socket was now. From what he understood he might not even be on Charon anymore. It made his head hurt a bit just thinking about the implications. How do you know Socket? And for that matter, where are you from?
As the two chattered on a bit, walking at a quick but not uncomfortable pace, they come to the first location on the map. It’s right at the entrance to the market and pretty easy to find considering the bright colors and crazy talking animal. As Shaa looked it it however, Brogans problem became obvious. There were lots of advertisements there, both old and new. But Brogans was the only ones, who was torn to shreds.

Nodding, she chuckled. "I do indeed, Socket was a mentor for a time, and together we helped teach a young centaur named Nami about the world. I'm from the Crescent Isles, in the Bamboo Forest. That is where you can find my kin, though they are trying to stay hidden from the world at large." She responded as they came up to the first area. After spending a few minutes peeling off the shredded bits of paper, she fastened the new ones into place. She let out a double whistle as she finished, signaling her companions who she could sense nearby. Shion found a comfortable spot in the canopy of a nearby tree to watch over the area and act as alarm in case these vandals returned.
Moving on, she was glad that Shaa was able to navigate the winding city easily, as she would have spent many extra hours just trying to figure out the maze of streets and buildings. Each place they stopped was more the same, and her companions did their best to keep watch as they moved about the city. She couldn't be everywhere at once, but then she really didn't need to be either. This was one of those adventures she sorely missed Yukina, but the strong and steady owl deserved a break from the life of travel just as much as the others.
The sun was high in the sky, they'd been working on fixing ads all morning and things were going well so far. As they were nearing the next area, something seemed off. Despite the area being open and a wide street, there was only a few people and none of them seemed interested in business. She took a steadying breath as they were approaching the road, patting Shaa on the arm to alert him to the oddness.

You know Nami too? Shaa was shocked. He had met the free spirited centaur by accident outside of his home during a storm. It wasn’t that long ago she stayed at my house. Perhaps we were always meant to meet up. Shaa was able to relax a bit. He had truly liked both Socket and Nami. If they were friends, then he was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.
As they fixed the advertisement, Shaa was more interested in the claw marks that had torn it to shreds. Shaa had seen his fair share of slash marks. Marks left by weapons were clean, evenly spaced. The slash marks left here on the wall weren’t like that at all. They were deep, uneven. And big. Shaa made some mental notes and led the way to the next location.
Shaa finds his way pretty easily. So far, they hadn’t really run into any problems but the day wasn’t over yet. As they make it to a wide street, he feels Taki tap him on the elbow. Something was up. He took the hint and scanned the area. The street was fairly quiet with only a smattering of people about. Why was it so quiet?
Hang out here for a second. Shaa steps out into the quiet street and looks around. Shaa reached out with his senses. He can feel the steps of all the people around him as they mill about. They pound the pavement, scraping against the cobblestone. Step, step, step. Then nothing. Shaa feels a sharp chill run up his spine….then nothing. It was gone. What in Ginma’s beard was that? He gives Taki the all clear sign and takes another quick scan.
We’re clear…but something…something was here. Let’s get the poster baaaa oh. Shaa was so focused on the strange presence he was only now noticing that the poster at this location, was smeared with some sort of red liquid.

Taki fetched a sturdy branch she saw laying on the ground, took a few moments to flatten one end and handed it to Shaa. "That doesn't bode well, and yeah, that does pretty much describe Nami... she is as wild and carefree as the storm itself, and just as quick to strike." She examined the area, signaling her companions to search further out than either she or Shaa could sense. If something was unsettling to the burly man who seemed charged with magic, it couldn't be a pleasant experience having to deal with such a being.
The shaman pondered how to approach the situation, despite her limited understanding of cities and their complex, nuanced web of interactions. She smiled as an idea formed in her mind, letting out a soft call that saw Shion come skittering over a nearby fence and up to her.
"Yes miss? No sign so far of the culprits."
"We just had a brush with our mysterious vandal, but we're still behind. Would you mind if I gave you a different form for the next hour to see if you can track them?"
"Oh is this..."
"Yes, it is."
"Mhm! Yes please! I do so love it."
Shion came right up to her outstretched hand, her carapace seeming to melt away to reveal the form of a Snowy Owl of roughly the same size. She ruffled her feathers and without further prompting took off to the sky. Taki watched her shapeshifted companion fly off with a look of both adoration and concern. While she clearly was enjoying flying, she also began to swoop back and forth across the sky. As Shaa was finishing with the ad, there came a worbling call from above. Taki hopped atop a fence post with the ease of a cat, balancing on it's top to get a look over the rooftops of nearby homes. She pointed roughly along their path of travel.
"Shion's spotted something and is tailing it. Shall we?" She asked Shaa, eager for answers and a bit of excitement to shake off the monotony of the task at hand.

Shaa takes the stick and gently prods at the red liquid on the poster. It was much too gooey to be blood. Getting a closer look he could detect a hint of some sort of rotten berries. Whoever this vandal was, they really did not like their employer. Looks like it’s just fruit… I wouldn’t touch it though just to be on the safe side…
He watched in surprise as his new companion changed one of her followers into a beautiful white owl. The owl took off and soon noted something from the sky. At Taki’s insistence, they follow the bird through some narrow alleyways leading further into the city. The bird moves quickly but they are able to keep pace until they find themselves in a busy square. The bird seems to be circling something over in one of the far corners.
The square is crowded enough that it’s hard for Shaa to push through the crush of people without causing a disruption. Excuse me, coming through, pardon me. A particularly crusty dwarf with a beard as long as he was stands his ground, blocking the path. Hey buddy, we are in line. I don’t care if you are gigantic, you need to wait in line like everyone else. He can hear some mumbles of agreement coming from the crowd. Look buddy, I’m not trying to get in line, I’m just trying to get over there. Shaa points a big finger to the other side of the square. Ughh you are the worst! No respect for the line. Just busting on through like you own the place. Not today man, not today! The crowd started getting louder and he could feel some hands start to shove him. Shaa had been chased by enough angry mobs in his time to know where this was going.
Listen you pint sized twit! I’m not trying to mess up your line. I’m literally walking to the other side of the square, no detours. As the two continued to argue, a pair of city guards approach them from the side. What seems to be the problem over here? The guard asks with suspicion in his voice. Nothing…sir. I’m literally just trying to walk over there . We have a line jumper sir. He was trying to cut, everyone saw him. There were more murmurs of agreement from the crowd. Cut through THROUGH not into. I don’t even know what this line is for! The dwarf gasps in mock horror. You cut lines without even knowing what they are for? Are you some sort of sadist? Well…a bit but that has nothing to do with the line. I’m telling you, this does nothing for me but give me an ulcer.
Shaa tries to subtly shake his head at Taki to motion for her to follow the bird. He wasn’t going anywhere for a minute.

She followed Shaa through the winding streets, coming upon the bustling square shortly after. As she noticed the minotaur stopping, she stood back just a bit to see what would happen during the interaction. Something about the man didn't sit well, and Taki wasn't keen on wasting time over frivolous disputes. She took two quick steps, then hopped clear over the crowd as she tucked and landed on the other side. The 'line' was moving without the dwarf, which infuriated the shaman further... this is the nonsense she loathed in cities.
Without looking back, she turned to see Shion off moving again down a narrow alleyway. She launched herself again, springing from one wall to the next to build momentum as she did. She gave a signal to Shion, who dove at their quarry and unleashed a snowy blanket of magic in their path. "Ryu, you're up." Said the shaman, calling her Guardian to her side. The serpentine spirit went zooming off after Shion, adding their debilitating aura to the poor sap now caught in a heavy snow bank and struggling to progress through the snow. Shion perched on a nearby balcony, ready to assist as the shaman rounded the corner and caught her first glimpse of the culprit.
Gleaming, dark grey scales covered the humanoid reptile trying to dig their way through the snow pile. As her guardian's aura fell upon the creature, their progress slowed even further. She stalked forward, pinning the man to the snowbank unless he tried to go up or through her.
"Hello there... I believe you and I have some business to discuss. Would you be so kind as to come back out of the alleyway without a fuss?" She addressed the fleeing man, her voice calm but threatening.

Shaa sighs as he feels he is getting nowhere fast with these jokers. Ok, I am really just trying to leave here. I haven’t done anything wrong so you can’t just keep me here. The guards looked at each other and put their hands on the hills of their swords. Excuse you, but you aren’t going anywhere until we figure this out! Says one of the guards with a stern tone. What’s to figure out? I’m just walking from here to thee. And cutting lines! Snaps the dwarf. You stay out of this shorty! Don’t threaten me! Did he threaten you? Asks the calmer of the two guards. Shaa cannot believe his ears.
You have to be joking me! You were here the entire time. I didn’t threaten him at all. Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to calm down. Says the first guard as he gets out a well worn notepad and writing stick. I am calm, it’s the hyperactive lawn gnome over here that’s causing all the problems. A gnome from the crowd pipes up. Hey, he’s a dwarf, I’m a gnome. We all aren’t the same you know. That’s offensive. It was times like this that Shaa was very confused why more people didn’t resort to extreme violence to solve issues. This was just exhausting.
Look. Gnome, sorry about that, I didn’t see you there. Guard, I didn’t do anything wrong, I didn’t threaten anyone, you can’t hold me. Dwarf… Shaa looked around and found that the strange dwarf was gone. Where did he go? The guards looked as well and no one could find him anywhere. Well, with no one to file the complaint, I guess you can go. But keep your nose clean.
The two guards walked off but the gnome, still unhappy about the slight, stood there and groused at the Minotaur. Not wanting to lose the chance to get clear, Shaa rushes across the square to track down the bird and it’s master.

Taki took a step back from the lizardfolk, tracking his motion with Geomagnetic Sense as he started to approach. Flashing a grin, they lunged forward only to see the shaman sidestep it as if it were no more than child's play. Keeping her distance, she toyed with the poor creature along the boundary of Ryu's aura. After a few moments, she noticed they were beginning to wear down. As the next strike came stumbling forward with them, she slid beneath it and tapped his side one of her arms. The cloth bindings that covered the limb took on a magical life of their own, wrapping the lizard up, who promptly was scooped up by the shaman and tossed over her shoulders like a sack of grain or feed. Ryu and the others followed her out of the alleyway and back towards the square where she spotted Shaa again.
"So did you solve your problem? or consider we should have caught them all as well? Likely co-conspirators... but I can only speculate until we have a chat with this one..." She stood the lizardfolk up against the wall, her senses tuned on them as she spoke to the minotaur.
"Would you care to get us started Shaa? something tells me you'll incite a more... truthful understanding to this one." Taki's tone was sinister, hissing slightly as she watched their expressions keenly.

Shaa scratched his head a bit as he considered the situation. Yeah, I suppose it’s possible. The weird dwarf kind of vanished on me. We’ll just have to keep an eye out to see if he shows up again. As for this guy…Shaa looks at the ragged lizard man. He didn’t look familiar. Looking at his hands, it was possible that he could have been the one to claw the poster. Still though, he felt like there was something that he was missing. What was it though?
Hey he says the the lizard man who is struggling against the wall. I have to be honest here man. I am a fighter, not a torturer. I would really appreciate it if you just let us know what was going on. If you do, you can just be on your way. No harm, no foul. Seems like a decent proposition to me. The lizardman squinted his yellow eyes at Shaa as if he was somehow measuring the truth coming from the burly fighter. Humph. I know nothing. I was minding my own business when I was accosted by that bird and the woman. And to be drug through snow. I should call the guards for this kind of harassment. Shaa bent down slowly to get eye level with the lizardman.
Yeah. He said, moving a couple rocks with his finger. I suppose you could do that. Then again, makes me wonder…why haven’t you already. I mean, you have been so badly treated and there are guards all over the place. Maybe you don’t want the guards involved…. The lizardman shifts himself again uncomfortably along the wall. So what are you gonna do about it? You are already in trouble I think. More than me.. Shaa had to admit he had a point.
Well…maybe. Look, I don’t have time to play with you so, here’s what’s going to happen. You are going to tell me what I want to know, or , I’m going to rip your arm off and make you eat it. To be clear, that’s not hyperbole. I am literally going to rip your arm out of your socket and jam it stump first down your throat. I bet a can do it before any guards show up. I’ll give you to three. Shaa turns to Taki. You might wanna get back a bit. I feel this guy is a sprayer. One.
The Lizardman looks around in a panic. You said you weren’t a torturer! I’m not. This is going to be quick. Two. Besides, you guys grow limbs back right? That’s you? No we don’t. Wait wait, let’s be reasonable. I’m very reasonable. Look how slow I count. Shaa cracks his knuckles a bit. 2 1/2… brahhh fine fine I’ll talk, I’ll talk whatever….
