Nax already had their mouth clamped onto the crueller as they looked up at Del, her frustrated stance not lost on them. They had seen many a mother in the Moonveil village sport that same look to an unruly child while out shopping. Nax had always snickered at the chagrined looks of the little kids faced with such disapproving look. Now, Nax felt the same chagrin rising bowing their head, drooping their ears, and crossing their arms behind their back. What a daunting look from such a respectable and much taller person than themselves.
Still, Nax had it in hand.... They thought.... Nax sneaked a glance at the crowd and the fierce woman hawking her wares. Though she watched the crowds dutifully and bartered professionally, somehow there was still a glare directed towards Nax and Del. One that Definitely said I saw the whole thing and you're not getting away with it next time.
Ouch. Maybe not as sneaky as they thought. Maybe they needed to train more in the sneaking department...
Still! As they looked back at Del and their demanding gaze, Nax did not want to seem like a helpless little kid like the ones facing their mother's wrath in Moonveil Village. They were past their maturity age! (They were pretty sure...) Maybe...Maybe the best way to avoid admitting defeat was by distraction!
Nax shifted their eyes away from Del and back again, straightening their posture before speaking, one hand scratching at the scales on their neck. "mmffmfnnffnfffmrrrr frmfmrrrfmfrr."
Oh yeah. The crueller.
Nax quickly spit out the pastry into their hand and repeated. "I'm sorry, I got a little distracted. We were on the way to your workshop, weren't we? I shall follow your lead, most notable Lady Del."

...Well. Their remorse was at least adorable, if not endearing. Del shakes her head with a quiet, amused huff, and gives them a wry look, beckoning them away from the vendors while they consumed their crueller. "Come along, its not far."
Though she does decide to take the long way back to her workshop, trying to stay off the main road and any further distractions that could entice Captain Nax into a life of pastry related crimes. She keeps a close eye on them as they go, pointing out landmarks that should help them find their way, should they become lost in Darkveil once more.
Even then, it doesn't take long; along a long strip of cobbled street with a tall orphanage at the end, somewhere in the middle of the block was Ironwood Ore & Timber, a wood sign that sifts ash from where it collects like volcanic snowfall. Exhaling a slow sigh, she unlocks and opens the door, holding it open for her guest. "Here we are. Come in and make yourself at home."
There is an array of metal and wooden weapons that hang neatly along the wall behind the counter, an ever expanding collection of weaponry. On the counter itself, are baskets of smaller, pre-made items, such as nails, horseshoes, cutlery and table settings, dowels, and, of course, toys. The carpentry table sits against the wall near the window for the best lighting, along with all the necessary tools of the trade. Fighting most valiantly with a curled strip of wood, is Chip, the bee-like flitten who perks up as the door opens, mewling to greet the Warm Lady and their scaly new guest.
"So." Del looks at Nax, shutting the door behind them. "We were... interrupted earlier. What brings you all the way here from Moonveil? It's quite a jaunt, from here to there." her brows lift slightly as she moves around the counter to find the food she kept stashed here. "Do you plan on staying in Darkveil long?"

The door opened to the shop and Nax was greeted by a large store of the finest weapons they had ever laid eyes on. (Well, they hadn't seen many, but they were still the finest!) Nax stood in admiration for a good few minutes, looking around the walls at all of the different weapons both familiar and foreign to them. The little blacksmith shop in Moonveil forest had mostly farm equipments and daily living implements and Nax had justly assumed that most blacksmith shops held the same. Well - they knew blacksmiths made weapons. But standing inside this shop sporting many more swords than hoes was beautiful to Nax.
Nax was distracted from their admiration of the weapons on the wall by the tiny mewling in the corner. When they looked, they found a tiny cat (and tiny was putting it lightly). A tiny cat with little butterfly wings. Nax's eyes dilated with sudden intense interest and they crouched on the floor close to the tiny kitten butterfly. Their tail swished with amusement and their ears flicked as they watched its tiny movements. It wasn't very often at all that Nax encountered a creature that was smaller than him - and this one was much smaller than him! Of course, Nax had seen cats before - they prowled around the farmlands back home quite often. But they had never known that cats also came in miniature. It fascinated them immensely.
Nax's ears twitched as they heard Del's question. They gave her a small side-eye before looking back at the cat creature, thinking about what to say. Nax was in a conundrum - they needed to admit that. They were stranded thousands of miles away from the forest and their ship and they weren't rightly sure how to get back. It was their first time outside of Moonveil and they weren't quite sure what to do with themselves. Just lucky enough they had run into such an amazing hero as Del. Otherwise Nax would've been alone - and while Nax was used to being alone, they weren't used to being somewhere they didn't know by heart. Nax wasn't afraid - pirates were never afraid! But... well, they didn't want to admit to their growing trepidation. Especially not to someone else - small creatures that showed fear are often targeted, that's the law of nature.
They were silent a bit longer, thinking. Without taking their eyes from the curious creature, Nax finally spoke up. "It was more of a coincidence, really! I was seeking adventure and adventure brought me all the way out here! But I can't imagine I'll be staying too long in the city. After all, I have very important pirate duties to attend to back in the forest. You know, where my secret base of operations is."

She comes to lean on the counter, watching Captain Nax carefully as he stares with wonder around her shop. Del can't help but smile to herself at that; she was much the same way in a smithy, entranced by the tools, the weapons, the workmanship. When their attention is pulled to the rambunctious little kitten-flitten on the floor, she clears her throat; the other questions could wait, for a moment. "This is Chip," Del nods down at the flitten, smiling fondly.
"Mreee!!" Said Chip, peering up at this new scaly friend with intense interest, padding his little front paws on the floor as though making biscuits, before batting the curl of wood towards Nax, as though inviting them to play.
Her eyes stay trained on the small, scaly captain, watching their rapt interest with Chip with curiosity; were they thinking or simply entranced by the flitten? But once they eventually speak up, it becomes a little more clear, and De nods again, in understanding this time. "...Pirate duties. In the forest." She says slowly, confirming. That. Didn't sound quite right. "Yes, I see. That makes sense."[/color] It did not, but she was not the right person to speak on matters of piracy. "No one would think to look there, surely. A fair coincidence to wind up here of all places. Is your ship in the harbor? When do you intend to depart?"

Nax continued watching and interacting with Chip, pushing the curl of wood back to the creature. It brought such intense joy to watch the little kitten play with Nax. Why??? They watched him pounce and bat the curl of wood and Nax's ridge spines tingled with pleasant joy. But Why Though?? Nax didn't understand why watching and playing with such a little creature was so entertaining and heart warming - but Nax didn't want to stop either. It was too much fun!
At Del's next set of questions, Nax couldn't quell the rising anxiousness they were feeling. They tried to stop the slight annoyed twitch of their tail as they thought of how to answer Del's questions satisfactorily. They had to lie - there was just no other answer. "Oh, uh. I actually came here with a friend! There were a few things they had to get here - cause you know, it's so different from Moonveil. So uh, I'll probably be here a few days or something while they get the stuff they need and then uh... Then head back to the forest. With them." Nax was grateful for the little kitten butterfly, not only for the questionable amounts of joy it brought to their soul, but also for the convenient distraction of not having to face Del while they lied to her.

Chip batted the wood shaving vigorously, his pupils blown wide with excitement and focus, like this was the most intense thing he had ever experienced (thus far, it was). He scampered to and fro, trying to put so much force in his little legs that he often skid or slid around in his efforts to vanquish the piece of wood.
Del watches with a tilted head, seeing how intently Nax was focused on the Flitten, a wry smile tugging at her lips. She had no way of knowing how old Nax was-- captains couldn't be children, right? Though a certain kenku might have differing opinions on this, Del was reasonably certain that Fish was the exception to several rules. Thus, she had no reason to believe that Nax was lying whatsoever. She certainy wasn't trying to catch them in a lie, either; only help them to the best of her ability.
"Oh, so you already have a plan, then! That's good. Well, I know you said you hadn't had time as yet to find yourself room or board before you were accosted, but if you need a place, I ccan put you up here, for the night." she gestures up to the loft above the door, hidden slightly from view unless one was looking straight up. "Unless you plan to meet with this friend of yours elsewhere. You didn't want to go with them?"
