The couriers? Ah, that explains it. So, that letter he received must have been related to that as well. Damn. He really wished he had read it in full before leaving home.
The tension in his body eases as she removes her weapon from behind his neck. He looks the woman up and down again. He wouldn't have guessed she was with the same group he was, though that was kind of the point. They weren't necessarily supposed to know other agents, though clearly that could cause some unneeded conflicts.
"I am sorry to hear that your relationship with your father is strained. Family can be complicated."
He supposes that he's lucky in that regard. His relationship with his family was very good and even though there are lofty expectations of him, he's rarely felt like they were unfair or more than he could bear.
"That is a lovely offer, and really we could deliver it together to clear up any misunderstandings."
It's a fair offer given there was no real reason for them to compete over the gem. They were on the same side at least in regards to this situation. He would also be lying if he wasn't a little bit curious to learn more about Lady Gwendolyn and her whole story. She could be a valuable ally in the long run after all.
He pulls the gem out of his sleeve and holds it up to the light a bit. It really was an exquisite jewel with a complicated fractal cut that trapped the light within it. There were no visible inclusions or other impurities. A perfect piece worth a pretty penny should anyone find someone willing to pay the hefty price and take on a lot of risk of being caught with it. He doesn't blame Gwen for not wanting to keep it, he doesn't either.
Best not to tempt fate and lose it though, so he tucks it back away and joins Gwen on the beach for some civil chit chat and relaxation before seeking out the recipient of the gem somewhere in Starlight City later that evening.
