The door is carefully reset as they slip out. Fish climbs back on to the table to reconnect the trap mechanism before hopping back down. They could warn any guards, but if any cultists did come back they place would look somewhat untouched for the first few moments at least.
All things considered, they likely could do more to follow up on these leads and chase them down, but Fish had no interest in getting into the middle of this. A turf war with guards and thieves guilds was bad enough. Adding a religious cult into the mix was a no go for the aviankin. Religious fanaticism never ended well for anyone involved.....Still it was curious to see the Scorched Ones taking to such brazen tactics.
In any case Fish gives Socket a nod agreement and follows them out. If this panned out they way Fish could see it going, they wouldn't be surprised to see the construct again. Back at the guard house, Fish once more avoids making their presence directly known. The parchment and books they had are bound together with twine and left outside the barracks where it can be found. Doing good or not, they didn't make a habit of letting guards spot them.
They would rejoin the construction and give them a final nod before offering out a hand, "Good work."

Socket shook Fish's hand, glad they'd both made it out safely. This mess could be handled by a force large enough to deal with fanatic cultists. Satisfied by the outcome of their adventure, and hoping it improved life in the city at least in small ways, the construct made their way through town and began the journey back to the Marsh Flats. Stopping along the way at several places, the automaton picked up ordered materials, metals mostly, before finally reaching the place they called home.
Charon continued to fill the automaton's life with amazing and unusual experiences, all of which they'd been dwelling on a great deal lately. After taking a short rest from the journey, Socket began the arduous construction of a machine that had been pestering their thoughts for some time. If it worked, it would replicate the conditions that had shunted the construct across the stars years ago and take them to a new destination. It meant leaving Charon, possibly for good, yet the call of adventure and the unknowable tugged at the automaton. Much like the wind and lightning magic they'd studied for so long, change was a constant state, and it had come time once again for Socket to see great change in their life.
