Race: Nocturne
Nationality: Marsh Flats
Religion: She heads a circle of witches that devoutly worships an unknown deity called by the name of the Eclipse Maiden– Lachesis is her head priestess, devout follower, and head of the coven that hails her “return.”
Appearance: Most who direct their gaze upon Lachesis are quick to notice one key thing about her, and that would be her nearly otherworldly beauty. Her eyes are striking, with sharp and dark lashes framing large ruby-red irises, often emphasized by eyeshadow in grey and white, drawing a gradient over her eyelids. Her hair is a pale gold and falls down to her hips in slight waves, with a thick braid at the back keeping most of it out of her face, with oleander blossoms and butterfly wings woven deftly into it. Her complexion is eerily pale, with only faint touches of natural color clinging to her complexion– a distant dusty rose at the height of her cheeks, a slight contour following the outline of her nose, but other than that, she bears a skin tone adjacent to that of a corpse. She stands at a respectable 5’6, with a body composed of distinct, sweeping curves drawn in sharp angles– the pinch of her waist, the outline of her limbs, and even the swell of her chest are all strangely sharp, a body drawn in quick lines instead of sweeping strokes. She dresses in black and white with splashes of scarlet, always with a ribbon with long, steel-tipped tendrils at her back. There are myriad oddities to her, too– the way those tendrils seem to move on their own, the way her shadow seems a bit too long and dark, the way her eyes glow and burn, how easy it becomes to lose track of her…
Personality:
Most who know the name Lachesis Calyptra speak it with deep fondness.
She is well-regarded in the circles she occupies as a lady of great maturity and charisma– she always presents herself to others with a light and easy smile and a well-placed word or two of good humor, always quick to smooth out tensions before they can form. Though she is elusive and seldom-known to most, those who are aware of her regard her as good company– a light laugh to keep the chatter carrying on into the night, an easy presence at the side of anyone who stands beside her, a stunning face to keep the mood bright as the fullest moon. She is quick to show interest in other people and their lives, and is a dutiful listener; she favors hearing others chat about their lives and affairs, happier to merely dance along in a conversation than to lead it, providing encouragement or words of interest wherever it may be necessary. Most consider her a great conversation partner because of this, happy to chatter away to her about whatever they might like, hardly considering that she’s barely told them a thing about herself at all.
Despite her good repute and her skill with presenting as a charitable and compassionate woman, Lachesis’s interest in people seemingly goes as deep as their potential usefulness to her– she is constantly picking away at the brains of those she meets, seeking out those who may have information she could use for the sake of her goddess, or even those who may have interest in serving her. She channels much of her effort into collecting information without giving anything of substance away in turn, calculating every word she speaks and move she makes to ensure it all seems as natural as can be, all while allowing her to take note of what she needs to without becoming the subject of suspicion. Still, she is quick to become invested in others, memorizing information and detail of all sorts about those she meets, lavishing gifts and other great kindnesses upon them, some of which seem a bit too sincere to be fully fabricated.
Above all, she values loyalty, perseverance, and devotion, and will eagerly reward those things as well as she can, whether it is from a stranger or from one of her fellow witches. Her ideas of rewards, however, are… not always so kind.
Either way, she will remember you in the finest detail. She will always remember you.
She is careful to wrap herself in mystery, presenting as a noble witch with a charitable heart, balancing feigned generosity and investment in others with the air of a woman marred by tragedy– she uses the excuse to avoid discussing any personal matters, asserting that she would rather not think of such gruesome things from a bygone age. Lachesis calculates every part of her veneer to be sympathetic and comprehensible, always sure to have something on standby capable of explaining away every little thing she can. Of course, inevitably, when one overthinks something, there is always room for those too-tight stitches to strain and wear thin…
Despite her devotion to her goddess and to her own goals, she is prone to flights of fancy and has a fascination with mortal luxuries– she can’t resist a quality inn room, a hot spring, or an outing to a fine restaurant and theatre performance of some kind. She is also oddly fascinated by mortal creativity, having a great fondness for craftsmanship and theatrical arts in equal part, prone to throwing Solars at little carvings or statuettes and opera tickets.

History:
To all around her, even to those within the Circle of the Moth, Lachesis Calyptra is an utter mystery.
As far as anyone knows, she is an elven woman who hails from a long-disappeared village of the Marsh Flats, one who has undergone a great tragedy she does not speak of beyond vague, socially acceptable comments, and a witch of mild repute, known for her skill with the light and dark arcane domains, one who people occasionally seek out for a ritual to call upon the blessings of the divine, a request she is all too happy to grant. Those within her coven know her as a sharp and incredibly capable leader, a witch with a grand power that slumbers still beneath her skin, and a devoted servant to the strange goddess she shapes her worship around. Beyond these details, her origins are strangely murky– those who are particularly devoted to collecting information would even find that the name “Lachesis Calyptra” appeared on no concrete record at all until a few decades ago.
No matter who she once was, no matter how inconsistent her place in time is, Lachesis has carved out a place for herself in this era as someone worthy of respect, and she is not keen on letting anyone or anything unravel what she has created.
Significant NPC’s:
Achelois – The mysterious deity Lachesis’s coven worships, known as the Eclipse Maiden, the Shadow Over the Heavens, and simply the Moth. Iconography depicts her as a humanoid woman with long silken hair, though many of the specifics beyond that are vague and difficult to place. Information about her is difficult to recover, but Lachesis trusts in her, and the Eclipse Maiden seems to trust her right back. The name “Achelois” is merely one of many epithets.
Atropos – One of Lachesis’s puppets, a strange construct on ball-joints and strings. She takes the appearance of a slightly older human girl, with stark white hair adorned with withering flowers, and eerie pale blue eyes. She dresses all in grey. (More to be added with Warlord levels)
Clotho – One of Lachesis’s puppets, a strange construct on ball-joints and strings. She takes the appearance of a human girl, with brown-red hair adorned with iridescent butterfly-wings, and lavender eyes. She dresses all in white. (More to be added with Warlord levels)
Interesting Details:
- This name, Lachesis Calyptra, according to her, means “divider of the blood moth’s silk.”
- As far as anyone knows, she is an ordinary elven woman, though it is hard to place what kind– in truth, she is of a strange species called the Nocturne, a living shadow wearing organic flesh that desperately craves the light.
- She’s fond of dolls of all kinds; she has a particular fondness for ball-jointed puppets, though.
- The steel-tipped tendrils from her ribbon are sentient, and serve as a defensive mechanism of sorts; she’s named the one on her left Bella, and the one on her right Donna.
- She adores alcohol, particularly fine wine; she’s careful not to overindulge lest her underlings think less of her, but she loves it and even makes her own under the excuse of “ritual preparation.”
- She enjoys theatre and opera, and will eagerly sing any song she can remember from any old show she has seen to pass the time. One of her few soft spots is for bards; she’s prone to leaving a fine tip for performers she sees after joining them for a brief song or two.
- She adores light, in all its forms– her home is adorned with Lantern Lights and scented candles and myriad other things, including small simulacrums of stars and constellations.
