That day Cheche got up before sunrise. She looked at the improvised calendar on the wall, the only visible part of which was the date with three thick red circles! Finally! The rumored Hearth Day! The day when hearts were melting, almost everyone got the hots for someone, and tons of chocolate were given and received all around Charon! Birds were singing their sweetest tunes. Roses seemed to bloom only to share their fragrance with the ones, who were truly in love. Even though Cheche's little heart hadn't blossomed yet, the pixie still had one passion: she was crazy about holidays. And holidays meant sweets!
Cheche desperately wanted to be a part of the festival. This year she had a solid chance! She got her hands on the rarest item for the occasion: the legendary storm chocolate! She heard that people went gaga about it, some trying to get a bar as a symbol of their untamed feelings for their crush. Truth be told, she was lucky. While running errands for the bookseller she knew she witnessed a wagon losing control on the bumpy pavement. It jumped, sending some of the precious load into the air. The wagoneers had hardly noticed the event. And Cheche had wound up with a little bundle of chocolate in her little green hands.
All these days she restrained herself from trying it. That was a devilish temptation! She lost count of the times when she opened it only to gaze at it longingly, then swallowed and wrap it back again.
Today her dreams were going to come true. With her heart beating as if it was going to fly out of her chest she bit a piece. Piquant, yet delicate, tender, and bold, the taste was something out of this world! As expected of the famous Hearth treat! What's more, somehow it created that wild emotion she couldn't really put into words.
- It's primordial and wild...My, it's just like...just like a tornado itself! - she exclaimed gleefully. Strangely, the very moment Cheche uttered those words, she suddenly felt a change around her. The air suddenly got cooler. Her tiny room got blurry, the air started spinning and the currents lifted Cheche up. The flow carried her away in a crazy whirl, taking her higher and higher above the city, carrying her farther away!
- THAT IS FUN! - she managed to yell against the wind. And fun it was. Actually, it was so fun that Cheche passed out at some point.
When she finally came round, she discovered herself stuck on a pine tree in the very heart of a dense ancient forest covered with snow.
-Wow. - she whispered with a dumbfounded expression written all over her face.
P.S.
"Roses are red
Violets are blue
And someone spends Hearth Day
in the Coldwood"

I have been kicked out.
Yesterday "Snowflake, Natsu, I love that you're home for the for the first time in a while, but I'm also concerned about your social life. Seriously, you've had two weeks to reconnect with people, but have no plans for Hearth Day aside from working and studying?"
"Well, I have been away for a while, so I get that it'd be awkward to have me join, especially since a lot of them have significant others now, and there are a lot of commissions for serenades…"
He sighed "Nope, not on my watch. You, little lady, are going to find some friends. Haven't you met anyone on your travels who could be at least a companion?"
"...Astrid and Ray?"
"You traveled with them for a grand total of the month or so it took you to go on that quest and then split up. So I'll take that no. Go and find a friend."
"But-"
"No buts."
It seemed he'd anticipated our conversation, because when I went to the musician's association hall to look for Hearth Day commissions anyways, Master was there to kick me out and reiterate the lesson. Not really wanting to find a new friend, I stayed out for a few hours, performing as usual, stuck a note to my Dad's bed telling him where I'd be, then made my way out to the Coldwood.
I've never been here before, but Mom talked about it alot, and I feel like this visit is long overdue. I landed at the edge of the forest that evening and stayed the night in a burrow before heading out to explore the next morning. It was as magnificent as she made it sound, especially as you went closer to it's heart. Around midmorning, as I was munching on the rations I'd brought for lunch, I heard a disturbance in the trees. A bird, perhaps? But something felt… off. I went to check it out.

Edward took a deep breath and watched to blow out in a puff of steam as he exhaled. Kamille had dropped off a small parcel to his dorm (much to his room mates annoyance), containing three magical chocolates and a small oddity. Edward chuckled as he fished the Up-Down Rock out of his pocket and played with it a bit, discovering a few tricks he could do as he went along. Liz poked her head out of his coat pocket and squeaked at him.
"Right right, I'm going" Edward muttered, putting the toy away. He was in the Coldwood for...a breath of fresh air honestly. Oh sure, the school got a letter from Kamille about wanting Edward to see the world and broaden his horizons, but really it was because he didn't want to spend Hearth Day with Harlequin, the great grump.
Strolling along, he stretched out as he gazed happily into the canopy of trees.
"It's really remarkable Liz, you should come out and see it."
His pocket gave a series of short, terse squeaks. Edward may not know the language, but the message was perfectly clear. "Not while it's this bloody cold out thank you."
Shaking his head, Edward wondered what adventures awaited him in the chilly wood.

Humming to herself, the little pixie was climbing down the tree. It took her quite long time, but she absolutely loved adventures, so she was in a jolly mood. Everything had its strong and weak points, after all. She just preferred it on the sunny side. The pines were branchy - it's a strong point. Her pajamas and slippers were hardly made for this sort of activity - this point is a bit weak. She was taken away by some strange magic force and left on the pine in a frozen pine forest - could have been better. It was the beginning of some exciting Hearth Day adventure - what could be better?! And thus she continued to descend. Pixies have always been decent climbers. And Cheche had no plans of proving this wrong.
Once her feet had touched the ground, she felt quite a sense of accomplishment (such a tiny fairy, such a tall pine!). Yet even Cheche couldn't deny the fact that it was bone-chilling cold in there. She cast a sidelong look at her wings: a sorry state. She had to warm herself up and quickly! The snow here looked deep and undisturbed. Apparently, the only visitors this patch of the forest had ever had were squirrels, magpies, and some larger animals of unknown kinds. Cheche shifted from foot to foot observing her pink rabbit slippers.
- Let's go where no pixie OR rabbit may thread! - the bunny slippers took this announcement indifferently. But then again, they'd always been rather taciturn. Cheche smirked and made her first step into the wild.
Luckily for her, there was a bunch of dry wood scattered around the place. After some time she gathered a decent amount to make a little campfire. As for the place for it... she looked around: all pines looked exactly the same. The pixie closed her eyes, spun around, and pointed at the nearby tree trunk.
- You'll do! - she said. She was shivering even harder than before. But even though her fingers were getting a bit numb, she still managed to make a neat pyramid of branches and twigs. Then she clicked her fingers and made a tiny spark - magic fire, that would burb be it rain or snow. Seconds later a merry greenish-red fire was happily licking the wood. She squatted closer to it stretching her hands above it. Slowly, life returned to her frozen limbs, and her cheeks and nose regained their color. She felt warm, cozy, and...*yawn* somehow...*yaaawn* sleepy. Finally, she half-closed her eyes and steeped into slumber.

I stepped around an old growth pine with a great canopy of needless that reached for the sky and roots the grew over each other and well into the dirt. I looked around, and only when I looked down did I see what caused the nuance in the forest environment. An álfr or fae of sorts, was asleep at the base of the tree next to a lively tiny green flame that was perhaps twice as large as that of a candle.
I wasn't entirely sure what to do. The stories said either ignore…It? He? She? Did fae use pronouns? They. They is safe. Those were also all very different responses. My personal experience didn't have much to say either. The closest thing I had in terms of experience with faerie was my encounter with Elrodan, which was very brief and … normal. Well, as normal as getting treated by faerie magic after the medical tent had gotten trashed at the biggest martial festival of the year was, but he himself was pretty normal. Then again, Elrodan was also very obviously a different type of fae, standing at around two feet tall with a normal skin color and exotic hair, where this little one was was much smaller, with green skin and auburn hair. I watched the steady rise and fall of her breathing, marveling at the sight of something that looked like it was something straight out of a fairytale, if the stories included descriptiontions included descriptions of their foot wear- cute tiny rabbit slippers, this one was wearing. It was so picturesque, more fitting to my mother's description of a magically life filled forest despite the snow. Then I remembered why I hadn't seen any animals around aside from that one pack of wild Barghest, which I'd only managed to lose a half hour ago- I had a demon aura. I quietly started scooting away. No matter how I approach them, they probably won't appreciate having a doom demon in their face right after waking.

Edward continued his trek through the woods in relative silence. As he walked, a glimmer of green caught his eye in the tree line.
"What was that?" Edward asks himself as he moves through the trees towards the shimmering emerald light. Growing closer, his eyes grew wide as he spotted a tiny fairy asleep at the foot of a tree next to a miniature campfire. Pulling out his sketchbook. Edward immediately got to work drawing the scene. No one at school was gonna believe this, a real fairy! And she was all cute and asleep too, this was astounding! He made sure not to be too loud, both out of common courtesy and he didn't want to risk angering the fae. Heard some leary stories about that. Still, the scene was to picturesque to pass up.
As Edward drew, he heard the sharp snap of a twig causing his head to jerk up. Behind the fae, a shape was moving through the trees.
"Is someone there!?" He hissed, trying again not to wake the tiny creature but also wanted to make sure no one accidentally harmed it. That would be bad for everyone involved and honestly, he did not need that kind of bad luck in his life.

Home again. A little fairy is running through a meadow, half-fluttering over the soft emerald grass. She is touching its blades with her outstretched hands. Faster! Faster! She's diving into a sunlit forest, speeding up: her friends are waiting for her to come to play. Where are they? Where are they hiding? She hears their silver laughter. The race to the big stone in the center of the forest begins! They are teasing her, showering her with leaves and flowers from above. They are yet invisible to her eyes. She is laughing back shaking her little fists while she is running. Haha! Hahahahaha!
Cheche slowly opens her eyes still laughing. A sigh hangs in the air, taking a shape of a little cloud: she's still in the frozen forest. The dream still tickles her, hiding in the corners of her eyes, dancing on her lips. She stretches, opening her mouth wide in a big sweet yawn... and freezes on the spot, forgetting to close her mouth. It seems she has company. She instinctively backs away until her wings meet with the rough surface of the pine tree behind her. One of her slippers falls off her foot and she quickly grabs it, holding it in front of her as a sort of shield. There she stands not knowing whether to fight or flee. On the opposite sides of the clearing, she sees two motionless figures. They are staring at each other in silence if not for the low hissing sound, coming from one of them. Both are tall, much much taller than Cheche. One of them is wearing a hooded cloak, so it's rather hard to tell what their features are. She can rather sense than see large amber eyes shining from under the cape. The person seems strong but somehow is not menacing. The other one is a young human, who's clenching something in their hands as if it is absolutely precious. And what is it that he's holding? she cranes her neck to see: ah! some canvas and a pen. Is he, by any chance, an artist? Or a writer? The two look a bit strained. Can it be, Cheche is in a way? "I-is it some secret date in the heart of the wild woods? Teehee! How romantic, how chic!" - the big smug smile lights her face up alongside with a blush. She clears her throat as delicately as she can and says to the pair. -Hmmm... Fwends, Cheche is leaving, please don't mind Cheche! You can have a fire.. Could you pwease tell Cheche, where is the nearest inn?

A voice snapped me out of my staring. I instinctively snapped my head to its source. A little mister, with chestnut hair and a fine build. Seemingly human, but with all the different kinds of people I’d encountered, who knew? I stared at him like a deer in headlights, like I’d been caught doing something I shouldn’t have, but judging from his pose and the paper in his hand, he was doing much the same as I was- observing the little fae. A tinny laugh and a voice to match broke the tension. It was the little person. "I-is it some secret date in the heart of the wild woods? Teehee! How romantic, how chic!" I flushed at the allegation, before deciding that I should at least step out into the open. “Hi, uhm, I'm here." I said, trying my hardest to look not intimidating despite the shady cloak and demonic aura. "T-thank you for the fire but...N-no you’re not interrupting anything” I said first, to clear the air. Why is that her first assu-…Oh yeah, Hearth Day. Then I answered the question about lodging "The nearest proper inn would be most people's day and a half's journey away on foot to the northwest- in Bleakfort. If you just need a place to stay that's nearby, then perhaps try asking a T'saya community? If they haven't moved since yesterday, then they should be one camping just outside the Coldwood a few hours away." I looked to where the sun came through the tree branches, the shadows short and patches of light, bright. "Though, as a disclaimer, I'm not sure what their hospitality culture is like."

Much to Edwards dismay, the fairy woke up. Flying up to look around, she seemed in a state of panic for a spilt second before looking at his book and then smiling at the two of them.
"I-is it some secret date in the heart of the wild woods? Teehee! How romantic, how chic!"
Edward immediately turned bright pink and started flailing his hands "What!? No! Err, no offense, but I was just wandering through and happened to spot you taking a nap and wanted to make a sketch for my wildlife journal." He said, showing Cheche the rough sketch of her nap.
Looking over at Natsu, taking in that she was both a girl and a Tiefling. "Huh, small world. But no, not that she isn't cute in her own way, but I've honestly never met her before in my life."
Hearing the larger girl give directions, Edward nods "Interesting. Alright, thanks for the advice. Anywhere closer we might be able to head then?"

The sun was high in the skies sending sparkles throughout the forest. All of a sudden, it didn't look all that gloomy anymore. On the contrary, it was festive and bright, putting her in an extremely good mood. Cheche looked at the unlikely duo. There were snowflakes on their shoulders and capes, that glistened like stars. It somehow felt very fitting, as if both of them stepped out right from the fairytale. What was it if not fate? Fancy the three of them meeting in such a desolate place by sheer luck! However, both of them looked confused by her hasty assumptions. She and her big mouth! She glanced over at the notebook the boy was holding: oh? He wasn't half bad! Actually, it was rather good! Would she be able to ask him to draw something for her later? It occurred to her, that even though the forest sure looked pretty, it was a little bit too cool for a leisurely talk. All of them needed to move somewhere and, probably, fast. She looked at the girl in a cape and the young man in turns, then nodded and smiled. - The name's Cheche, - she bowed and gleamed. - Pleasure to meet both of you! I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you, it's just...Hearth Day, you see... - she mumbled, suddenly feeling a bit shy. - Anyways, you say we can find some shelter nearby? T'saya, was it? Never heard of them.. Who or what are they, if I may?...- her curiosity was triggered. T'saya! The name sounded totally unfamiliar, but promised an Adventure!

"We might be able to head," he says? I wondered …so they're both lost? How do you end up right in the middle of the Coldwood without any planning? Outwardly, I just shook my head. "I'm not that familiar with this area. We might run into a local settlement if we look around the area… but the chances of that aren't great. From my knowledge, these forests aren't very well mapped or inhabited." I absently fluffed my wings and looked at both of them. I wanted to greet them both by name next, but only Che-Che had given her name, and I didn't want to corner the human into it if he didn't want to. After all, there was a reason I almost never give my full name- there are too many stories about magic users playing tricks or cursing people just by knowing their name. So I kept my response to her introduction succinct, "...it's nice to meet both of you". I gestured vaguely to the north "I can tell you more about the T'saya as we walk. Though, not to sound rude but… How did you end up here? Just asking because I thought that it's a little weird that you don't know that there aren't any inns around here, after all, most people plan their route and rest stops, especially in Frost Gale, where a night outside would freeze most people to death without ample preparation". I scratched my cheek sheepishly, "That being said, I don't really know where local settlements are because I came here on a whim, and I'm built for the cold anyways" I said, patting my fluffy head.

"T'saya huh? Interesting, I'd love to meet a new culture if I could." Edward muttered to himself, jotting a note in his journal about visiting later. Hearing the indignation in Natsu's voice, he sighs
"Mind if I tag along Cheche? I'm not gonna let the you just wander these woods alone. You can even ride with Liz if she doesn't mind rodents" Edward explained, opening the breast pocket of his jacket, causing Liz to poke her Doormouse head out to see what all the commotion was. While interested in Cheche, the sight of Natsu had her diving back under.
"Anyway, I'm Edward, from the Arcane Academy over in Capitol Landing. I wanted to explore the world and this was the first ship leaving. Honestly despite the cold it's a beautiful wood. Definitely better than spending Hearth Day with Harl. Anyway, I have a very nice map...somewhere. Now where did it go? I took it from school, took it out on the boat and I-left it on the table didn't I? Damn. Err, right! So could you please point out where those T'saya people are again?" he muttered, rummaging through his bag before stopping, looking up in complete chagrin. He might be book smart, but Edward was not immune to bouts of carelessness sadly.

"How did I get there..." - she repeated pensively "Ah! It's all because I have a sweet tooth!" - she blurted out, her cheeks flushed and a guilty smile appeared on her little round face. "That is, it's all because of that chocolate. It did say "Storm" on the cover, but who knew it'd really create one? And the one of such force, no wonder Cheche plopfed right here! And as for the rest points and inns, it's fi-i-ine, friends! I'm sure we'll think of something!" She shook her shoulders and started pacing back and forth with an energetic stride. Now that they had a plan, she couldn't wait to set off! She felt like her whole body was electrified. Maybe that's exactly how a greyhound feels, only her prey was an adventure (and, possibly - some warm home-cooked meal, which she wouldn't admit even with her life on the line). Together with her new friends, they were practically a dream squad: a strong and competent older sister, a brother who's good at drawing, and a little prankster! "Tss-a-a-a-y-a-a-a, Tsa-ya.."Cheche tasted the name on her tongue. It sounded like crispy snow, crackling fire, and a vast starry sky. "Let's go to T'saya, friends." Cheche turned around and looked at them. She spotted some movement in the pocket of the young man. For a split second, she saw colorful scales and two curious eyes. Did she start seeing things? Cheche shook her head. She was out in the cold for a little bit too long. Her tummy started rumbling, so she added: "Hope, they are good cooks! I'd absolutely love to try something hot and steamy! Hearth Day is all about warmth anyway! And if it's not a heart, then it definitely should be a stomach!" - she grinned and added with a disarming smile: "Please, lead the way!"

So, one was here as a result of a magical sweet mishap (that sweet does sound familiar, but I can't put my finger on it), and the other was a runaway, perhaps? The phrase "This was the first ship leaving"...It sounds like he was in a hurry to get away from wherever he was, especially if he didn't mind that his destination had such…inclement weather. Either way, it was for him to know and for me to speculate unless he decided to share. Instead of asking, I stared at the slowly moving shadows and patches of light on the forest floor for a few seconds, to orient myself. I nodded, "Let's go" then started to lead the way, heading due north.
After a moment to collect my thoughts, I started speaking again "Well, I honestly don't know too much about the T'saya. They're a nomadic people who live in the area between both of the Coldwood and the southern slopes of the World Crown who revere fire. I've visited their main community a few times, and they were welcoming, but you never know what kind of experience each group has had with visitors, especially with the rise of the Specters". I paused a while, realizing I was segwaying into a tangent about the Specters' movement and taking a moment to get my thoughts back on track.

Edward nods "I see, well this'll be a learning experience for everyone! No worries, I'm sure it'll all be fine. Probably. Fingers crossed." he mutters following the tiefling along.
Looking back over, he smiles at Cheche "So, you're a fairy right? That's really cool! I'd love to learn more about you and your people, maybe you can tell me stuff like what fairy towns are like, do you even have towns? I never met one before so the prospect of learning about them is exciting to me." he asks curiously, taking out his peoples journal and pen, hoping to learn more about fairies and the like as they trecked on through the snowy woods.
The forest was large and cold, but still held a type of beauty to it. As if the snow and trees had always been there and always would be. Still, he was focused on the fairy and pressing forward to a new group of people he could learn about. Hehehe, today was a very educational day.
As Edward spoke to Cheche, Liz poked her head out and looked around. Ed was still talking to the tiny girl, and the creepy girl with horns was in the lead. Liz shook her tiny head and went back into Eds pocket, where it was warm and there were biscuit crumbs to snack on.
