"Well we did find something odd..." Arashi took another sip of his drink, absentmindedly looking to the side, as if reminiscing about a nightmare "I was hoping not having to think about it and it's implications..." With a sigh he continued "there was something extremely odd in the city, a huge gate barred to keep things in rather than out... we wondered what it could be surely it must've been dead by now... inside we found quite an ornate fountain one that still had running water... it wasn't crumbled in fact it seemed to almost shine. 'It must be magic!' We had found an old coin... we had no better idea than to make a wish on the magical everlasting fountain..."
Arashi looked a bit distraught as a shiver ran down his spine. "Turns out it wasn't a magic fountain at all... but rather a lure... Once the coin plopped, the ground began to shake... it seemed like the cave would collapse... But that's not the worst of it... an eye opened at the top of the fountain, and a giant creature climbed out of the ground, the fountain just a lure kept active throughout its hibernation waiting for something to wake it... something it could eat..."
Arashi took a swig of his drink putting it down afterwards "Anyways we ran away... neither of us was prepared or being paid nearly enough to even try to deal with something that size..."

Izzy's brows sslowly raise as Arashi details the exploits he and his group had beneath the sands. Of all the things she could have guessed it could be (and there were a fair few of ideas that ran through her head while the man spoke), the last thing she could have anticipated was some kind of magic fountain that a monster was using to tempt hapless travellers closer so it could feast on their pliant flesh and yielding bones.
If she notices Arashi's distress, she does not show it, grinning too broadly and too brightly as she takes in this information. "That must have been harrowing," she sounds more gleeful than sympathetic. "So the creature was the fountain itself? A... aaaah whaddaya call 'em." she snaps her fingers a few times before the words come to her again. "Mimic! Creatures that pretend to be objects? I'm surprised one survived down there as long as it has. And you and your friend too, no doubt."
It made her wonder about the society; why had they locked it behind a gate rather than deal with the thing themselves? Did they know what sort of creature was lurking in their midst, or had these ancient Charonian's assumed it was just a cursed fountain? A lost civilization with an opportunistic predator waiting in the debris. Couldn't get any more poetic than that.

"Well sort of..." He thought for a moment, he had read about mimics and also heard of them from some adventurers... and while they definitely shared similarities... from what he knew Mimics were expert shapeshifters, and usually just took the form of an object to lure people... normally becoming the object themselves... this was something different... "I think it wasn't just a regular mimic... I mean yes those are bad but... they usually become the object, right? this was different, have you ever heard of a kind of fish that... for lack of a better word fishes smaller fish? they use a lure to attract their prey and wait patiently for it to bite before eating them... they are not really shape shifters, they just have an extremely specific appendage to attract their specific prey..."
Arashi sat forward leaning on his intertwined hands "This resembled, well felt, like this kind of creature more than a mimic. It wasn't the fountain, it didn't become the fountain, the fountain was a part of it... It seemed to be hibernating too, just waiting patiently for something to land on it's trap... Although I am also surprised it survived down there even if it was hibernating... not impossible if it was just keeping itself alive without most functions but..."

Izzy leans on her elbows, chin in her hands, while she listens to Arashi explain, idly sipping at her alcohol while he chats. It was good stuff, too. Fascinating to hear about what was going on in other places, other parts of the world. He really was quite forthcoming about all of this. The smile that curls the corners of her mouth could not possibly be more genuine.
She snaps her fingers for a moment near her head, trying to remember. "One a them whaddayacallem's... angler fish, yeah?" Cave Fishers was the only thing close to what he was explaining, but that wasn't their typical way of luring prey. They preferred to set a trap they could get to when they got to it, less actively baiting something. It made her wonder vaguely just what had been down there. Then again, better someone else to be at the business end of such a creature than her.
"Deeefinitely odd it survived so long, for sure." Izzy nods, "Then again, elf-y types tend to live a long ass time, too, so maybe its got some ancestors somewhere. So how'd you two manage to get back to the surface? Did you make anything off of your findings, or keep 'em more to yourself?"

"Yeah something like an angler fish, but for people, apparently..." Arashi sipped a bit more of his drink, not really what he was used to, but it wasn't bad either... "Yeah... it seemed to be a creature with an impressive lifespan, although it seemed to also be in a hibernation state, maybe it's one of those odd creatures that can just almost freeze themselves in time until something wakes them... sucks it was my group" he chuckles a bit at the last part, in reality while it was stressful and a close call, he was glad it wasn't someone else since it might've ended in tragedy, and a search team would've had to be deployed which might've ended in more unnecessary deaths... the good thing was we now knew of it where it was and which seal to not remove...
"Well we managed to seal the creature, and we went back to the entrance, we had mapped our way so it wasn't too hard, we got paid for our findings, I didn't keep anything for myself as a souvenir... but I made a good bunch of money. even if it was not really worth that risk..."
after saying that Arashi took another sip before asking "What about you? I've been talking about myself for a while, I'd like to know more about the Tall fellblood lady who so kindly offered to help me." He said that in a genuine tone, wishing to know more about her she seemed like an interesting character. probably a good friend to have too.

Izzy nods sagely. "Yeees. Sucked big time, I'm sure." That at least sounds genuine-- and for the Fellblood's part, it is. It probably did suck, but when one went venturing into caverns lost to a time untold, there wasn't much to be done about it if one of the group wound up being lost to their circumstances. Kind of like walking into a cave and expecting it to be empty. Wishful thinking. At least he and his group had made it out alive, though.
A brow arches sharply as Arashi turns the conversation towards her "Ooooh, about me? Mmm, what's there to tell..." she rocks on the back legs of her chair, the wooden legs creaking dangerously under her movements. She cracks a lazy smile, the smile reaching her embers for eyes with a gleam; so far she had been careful not to reveal too much. Arashi had definitely noticed, but Izzy could sense an earnestness about his tone, at least. She could stand to divulge a couple of things in the interest of friendship. "Well, I'm a private investigator. Hardly anything remotely as interesting as spelunking with some weird angler cave creature. Though I suppose information is in the eye of the beholder. What would you like to know?"

It seemed his hunch was not wrong, a private investigator seemed like a good friend to have, and she was even offering a bit of information? well it seemed he was in luck. "I'd say a private investigator could be quite an interesting profession if we ignore the likely cases of jealous partners trying to find whether they're being cheated on, I'm sure you've had at the very least a few interesting cases. Although I have to ask... was the gator tail an inspiration for becoming an InvestiGator" He tried to make a joke, hopefully the pun wasn't taken the wrong way, from what he had gathered she seemed to be chill and have a sense of humor. "Sorry that was an awful pun"
He then thought for a bit to formulate a question that wouldn't be too much of an ask but could also be useful to him. "Well... I'm not looking for anything particularly specific, also I don't want to ask you to divulge anything you shouldn't... So let's just go for something simple. Any tips on information gathering? as well as maybe anyone who I should know or look out for?" He hoped it wasn't too big of an ask, but then again she's free to divulge or keep hidden what she knows as she sees fit.

Izzy blinks, astounded by the joke. Absolutely astonished. Flabbergasted, even. She glances down at her very alligator like tail and after a few seconds of bewildered pause, she bursts into an uproarious laugh, slapping her palm down on the table in her mirth as it overflows. "INVESTIGATOR. HOW DID I NEVER THINK OF THAT BEFORE?" she pounds the table with her fist, leaning over its edge, absolutely howling as she tries to regain herself before sitting back up, wiping tears from the corners of her eyes. "You're fuckin' funny."
Whether it was the fact that Izzy herself had never made that connection between her appearance and her vocation or the fact that Arashi had been so bold as to point it out, in either case, the man had earned a place in her good books.
"Who to look out for..." she clicks her tongue a couple of times, idly swirling her drink. "If you're asking for who to avoid, beware the Corps, for sure. Guards are everywhere, and they're none too kind. If you want work, the Dusty Refuge is the way to go, Madam Mohurk runs that and pretty much every other tavern in Zeinav, so she has her ear to the ground, so to speak. She's the better person to get you in touch with, ah certain individuals, depending on whatever that means to you and what your proclivities are. She's a good connection to have."

As Izzy Looked at her tail and blinked a few times, Arashi was about to redouble his apologizing efforts, but before he could even begin to stumble over his words trying to do so, she bursts out into a fit of laughter, oh, it seems that... worked..? Either way, he had to wait for a bit for her to get it out of her system, Arashi laughed along at the beginning and then just grinned, satisfied that his joke seemed to hit the spot, Once Izzy began recovering her breath Arashi, tried to wipe the grin off his face which he only partially succeeded at doing...
He began paying attention as Izzy tried to answer his question, He nodded along at the mention of avoiding the corps... he knew they could be dangerous and ending on their wanted list was likely something he should avoid at all costs. still he appreciates knowing there likely isn't anything else over the region that would be as hard to get away from and as dangerous as the corps...
Then we moved on to who he should know, this part was good as well, someone who owns most of the taverns in Zeinav is bound to have some good information, and also know who needs things done. Satisfied with Izzy's nugget of knowledge, he nodded again "Thank you, I'll keep Madam Mohurk and The Dusty Refuge in mind, You've been a great help! If you want to ask anything, feel free! Otherwise I'll be going. it was a pleasure either way!"

"Gooood good!" Izzy gives the man a lazy wave as she starts to rise from the table. "No further questions at this time, your honour. The prosecution rests. Or somethin'." A rakish grin flashes across her face. "Pleasure was mine, friend. I'll be around. You take it easy now."
Leaning back in her chair, she waves until Arashi has gone off to wherever he is headed off to-- either up to his patry lodgings on the floor above or elsewhere and out of the dive she had lured him to. Regardless, it wasn't until the man had fully departed that the smile drifted from her face. It was fine; no one was looking.
Allowing the chair to rock forward onto all four legs once more, Izzy deftly slips a pad of paper out from within her sleeve, jotting down a few of the key notes she had gathered from the conversation. Fun and interesting Arashi might be, but one could never be too careful... his motive for his arrival was still uncertain. Unusual, even, especially given that he appeared to be alone in this particular endeavor.
One could argue that so was she, most of the time. One might counter that by pointing out that was precisely why she should be suspicious, or at the very least, observant.
Once she's done with her notes and her drink, Izzy rises, pays a few extra coins to the barkeep with a quiet word between them, and departs. She slips into the alleys of Zeinav effortlessly, vanishing quickly from view, in spite of her gargantuan size and alabaster skin.
