Killian quirked a little smile. “Have I learned about you? I don’t think I have. All I know is that you’re a supposed amnesiac and that some people wanted to either capture you or kill you.” And that you’re a heathen and a traitor, apparently. But he left that part out.
He sighed, and slipped the form-changing puzzle box into his cloak. “Alright, I’ll talk. I’m no native of Zeinav, no denying that, I’m sure. Came here for a job. A contract I picked up in Sol City. Monster slaying. I was simply passing time in the market when I ran into you. As for her…” He nodded at the wolf. “That’s Lilith. She’s... a friend.”
A mysterious friend. But a good one, nonetheless.
"What about you, Del? I know, I know, you don’t remember why they’re after you, but you’ve been chased by them before. You haven’t found anything out? ... If you need help, I can offer my blade.”
He eyed her out of the corner of his eye. It seemed unbelievable to him that she wouldn’t have tried to find out why people were after her. If it was true, then it also seemed quite stupid to Killian. If you have a problem, you figure it out. You keep on poking and prodding, shifting pieces about until you have the answers. Like a puzzle box.

Del responds with a quiet chuckle, nodding her head a little from side to side, acquiescing his point "Touche." To be fair, that was the bulk of what she knew about herself as well. Well, that wasn't entirely true, but it made up so much of her experience, it sometimes felt like it was.
So, not a native of Zeinav, then, that at least she had gotten right on her first guess. Listens quietly as Killian talks, picking her way through the back streets of the city and keeping an ear out, still. Always. "Ahhh. I see. Are you a mercenary type, or do you work for a particular guild?" Her head tips briefly in his direction as she regards him. "You come across as very well trained. It's in how you move."
Her head then lowers to Lilith and she gives the wolf a small smile. She allows her hand to trail out from her side slightly, so Lilith could smell the back of her hand if she so chose. "A good friend to have in situations like these. We are well met, Lilith, friend of Killian."
The question turns back towards her, and the line of Del's mouth tightens slightly, mulling over how to respond. It wasn't as though she hadn't had those exact thoughts herself, after all. "I can't remember, correct. It's..." She pauses again, thinking back, as far as she can. "It's always been different people and different methods. Ever since I left my mentor's workshop. Sometimes it's just one person, rarely its a group of people, like today. More than once, there were mercenaries sent after me, but the most I could get out of them was that they were paid to bring me to whomever had hired them." She shrugs, but the crease in her brow belies her frustration. She rubs a hand over her face, touching the scar across her nose. "There's no direct rhyme or reason to it that I can chart out, save for the fact that I am the common denominator."
There's an extended pause. Del glances left and right at a split in the alley before following Killian in the direction they were meant to go. "I... have been looking into it. When I can." Even to her ears, her voice sounds trepidatious. And it isn't a lie; she has looked into it. But ever time she did she got a sense of deep dread. Not that she found anything to affirm that feeling. "There isn't much. Either I am looking in the wrong place or something is actively missing from certain histories."
She gives him a smile. "That's a kind offer. I would be happy for the help, once I have a few more leads to go off on."

Lilith glanced at Del as the woman extended her hand ever so slightly, padded closer, and gave her a single sniff before losing interest. Killian had a slight suspicion the wolf was simply humoring Del. Killian didn’t know exactly where Lilith had come from, she had simply showed up and saved his life, but it was clear she was no ordinary wolf. Killian suspected that some magic was probably in play, but he had no way to verify his suspicion. It also didn’t really matter; Lilith had been a good friend, and had saved him more than once already.
He flicked his gaze back towards Del as she spoke, not interrupting until she was finished. As they left the last inhabited building behind, they slowed to a pause. A handful of dilapidated buildings stood or sagged around them.
Killian crossed his arms and observed their options for a moment. “You know… This doesn’t seem like the best plan. Say you hide out here for a day or two. What then? You’ll have to either show your face in public again or go it alone in the desert. Neither course of action is without risk.”
He lowered his gaze to Del. “Alternatively… My caravan is leaving in a couple of hours, making for King’s Valley. You’re welcome to join me. I’ll pay your way and vouch for you with the caravan leader.”
He waited for her reply, then asked the question that was on his mind. “Tell me, Del. Who’s this… “Mentor” you mentioned?”

Del huffed a quiet laugh as Lilith moves away from the hand, disinterested. She wondered where she had come from; she hadn't been with Killian at the outset, but she was quite fierce, and dignified. Hmm.
The little crease in her brow deepened, mulling over the question he posed to her. There was certainly safety in numbers, and the Caravan was a smooth way out of the city... but it also brought additional danger. There was a good chance these people might assume she left with the caravan, or were already amidst it. Del snorted, shaking her head. "Of course it's risky, that's mainly how I travel. Nothing is without risk." She seems firm on that, but as she looks at Killian, there is a new factor at play. It would be risky if she joined a caravan at this point in time alone. But, as Killian had already pledged her his help, that was a marked increase in her safety. Del was stubborn, but she was no fool. "However, you do have a habit of talking sense. You don't have to pay my way, I owe you enough as it is already-- where is your caravan headed?"
The next question draws a look of wistful sadness to her expression, a gentle ripple of sorrow. "I don't expect you would know him-- he was from the Crescent Isles, a hermit. He went by Maruyama, I believe his surname. I heard people refer to him as Raphael before, but he didn't speak of this much. Why do you ask?" She tilted her head, brow quirked.

Killian tilted his head as he observed Del. “A trading post in King’s Valley. Should be easy enough to catch a ride to pretty much anywhere from there. So, I take it you are interested in the offer?”
Del’s expression as she spoke about her mentor was one of sadness- was he dead? But Killian didn’t ask that question. He looked out over the outskirts and thought for a moment. Then: “So you met this master of your’s after you lost your memory?” He brought his gaze back around and fixed it on the Elvish woman. “Maybe these… accosters have something to do with him.”
He kept his gaze fixed on her, scanning her face for any slip in her expression. If she was lying about anything… Then he’d just invited a potential threat on a days-long journey. So he kept his icy eyes locked on her, his arms folded yet his shoulders relaxed. As non-threatening a posture as he could present.
Lilith bounded off into the ruined houses, and every now and then Killian and Del could hear things being moved around or falling over as she searched for whatever it was she was interested in.
And still Killian didn’t tear his eyes from Del as he waited for her to answer.

"I am," Del nods, confirming. Though she had no interest in going to King's Valley just yet, it would be good to stay with them for at least a while before splittingoff. "Thank you for the offer. I will likely deviate before that point, but I will be sure to give my goodbyes before I depart."
Her gaze shifts again toward what lay beyond the outskirts, "Yes. He found me where I lay at the base of a cliff and took it upon himself to heal me." Though... the extra question gives her pauses. Del opens her mouth, and then closes it again. What if Maruyama was the reason she was being pursued? She had only started to be chased after...
Thinking it over a little longer, lapsing into contemplative silence, Del eventually shakes her head. "I don't think so. The people that knew him were very fond of him, but he didn't go out of his way to go into the bigger cities unless he needed something, and he was never pursued them. He was also mute; he rarely had the chance to incense someone, or cause an argument." But the more she thought on it... there were a lot of side alleys and roundabout paths he would have her take. Part of that had to be training, she was sure, but maybe... he was leading someone off. "He'd never mentioned it, but might be something worth looking into."
Her gaze settles again on Killian. "What of yourself? You carry yourself like a soldier, but you are doing some guard and mercenary work? Or are you with a guild?" There was a story there also, she was sure.
