"Yukina is, yes, she was a gift recently, along with Shion, a female Prismatic Spider. The pair sometimes accompany me, other times they stay home, depending on what task is at hand. Usually Yukina accompanies me to colder climates, and Shion to warmer, for obvious reasons. To my understanding, they were rescues from some out of hand breeder who didn't treat any of his animals well. I was training at the time and another student told us about it, those of us that could take in pets were gifted them and they've been my companions since. Her magic is good for making an area cold, impassible and hazardous for it's occupants. We've only tested it once, to see what it's done, hopefully it'll only need to be used in dire situations." They replied, then left the warmth of their fire when Veliky retired for the evening.
Perched on the cave wall with Yukina, Socket enjoyed the pocket of warm air that the fires had gathered in the upper part of the cave. While they didn't sleep, they did enter a low energy state which allowed their magics to replenish. Watching the entrance for trouble, the hours passed. The wind quieted down, the snow's last fluffy crystals lay upon the ground in sparkling color as the first threads of light brushed over the horizon.
Setting out together, a few minutes after the weather cleared and Yukina was fed once more, they began scouting the area in the pre-dawn light. The sky had cleared up, a mass of dark clouds moving off down the mountain to drop it's fury elsewhere. Surprisingly, the snowfall hadn't been dreadful for such a storm, it inches deep sure, but not up to one's knees, but rather to the top of one's boots. Passable with the larger wheels of the cart so long as someone stayed ahead on foot to check for obstacles as they went.
Soaring overhead, Yukina signaled all clear as well, the quiet morning and the cry of the snowy owl were all that could be heard. The mountain was asleep in it's comfy blanket of snow. Socket still pondered Veliky's words, at least those that made sense to them. Designs based on nature itself, it was artistic in a way, creating mechanical facsimile of living beings. They wondered if their own design had mimicked a living thing, but could not recall.
The large Snowy Owl came winging into the cave, a soft call heralding her return as she floated to a stop in the soft snow, her wide talons keeping her from sinking in. A few moments later, in the morning mist and haze, Socket strolls behind. Outside, a dazzling layer of white snow covers nearly everything, the winds and clouds have cleared off and the sky was so clear it looked like you were inside a marble of glass dropped into the clearest blue water.
They brushed a bit of snow from their cloak, walked up to Yukina and gave the feathers between her ears a light ruffle. Veliky had finally stirred from her slumber, as had most of the caravan's occupants. Striding across the snow, they walked over to the caravans and reported their findings. Each caravan's occupants took it differently, some happy to be traveling again, others grumbling that work had to be done, but all made ready to finish their journey.
Stopping by Veliky's wagon last, they approached in a relaxed manner. "Good morning. The weather's cleared up, and as best as Yukina and I could tell from our scouting trip, the roads are passable. There might be small things buried in the snow we couldn't see from above, but it's not as deep as it easily could have been." Reporting their findings, they continued. "I'm going to be headed back to report this last task complete and check in, have a safe journey, and send a message to Gazablaak with the details of the meeting when you're ready to have it. Attention: Socket, that's what all my friends and companions call me, since Kosoku can be tough on some tongues."
