Seiya
Fist of the Dark Star
you get a picture when it's picture day!
Age: 24
Race: Half-Yokai (specifically a half-inugami)
Nationality: Crescent Isle
Appearance: It’s easy to take one look at Seiya and immediately assess him as imposing; he stands at 6’9 in height with the strong build to match, with broad shoulders, strong limbs, and very defined musculature that he is all too proud to display. He has a lightly tanned complexion, and a myriad of battle scars line his skin, from across his knuckles to over his abdomen, to even one just beneath his collarbone– he’s got a story for each one of ‘em, too! He has thick, voluminous white hair that falls all the way down to his waist, fading to shades of pale pink and powder blue at the wispy edges– he’s prone to adorning it with little braids or keeping it pulled partially back, just to keep it out of the way during a fight. His eyes are a vibrant purple, fading down to a misty pink color, with a sharp, narrow shape– dark-lashed and alive with a fighter’s unquenchable spirit, all lined with blue and purple paint. He bears a number of inugami’s markings on his face– namely the four lines drawn inward from his cheeks and the four-pointed star on his forehead, though his bangs easily cover the latter. A pair of fluffy white dog ears spring out from the top of his head, though he lacks any kind of tail to match it– and he dresses in loose clothing that puts his physique on full display, adorned with pretty trinkets and braided cords, all the showiness of a peacock meant to highlight the firepower of a wild wolf. He does keep a fluffy shawl of sorts loosely draped over one shoulder, mostly for the sake of warmth when he needs it– but it’s the first thing to go when the time for a fight rolls around.
Personality: For a man as intimidating-looking as Seiya is, it comes as a surprise to most that he’s actually a surprisingly calm and nice guy when you first meet him– he’s the kind of person who’ll invite you to sit down and enjoy a glass or two of wine with him, maybe tell you one or two stories about his mama, and then ask you if you’d be up for a round of friendly sparring and send you on your way if you say no. Although he’s a bit rough around the edges, with sharper speech patterns, a blunt approach, a lack of a filter, and a clear sense of pride to him, he’s far from unfriendly, always opting to address the people he runs into with warmth until the second they give him a reason not to. He’s even surprisingly pensive– hardly classically intelligent, but he does try to understand the people around him, keener emotional sensitivities taking the forefront over any kind of booksmarts. Of course, with a lot of unprocessed anger simmering through him and a will to fight burning hot like stardust in his veins, he can’t help it if some of that boils over every now and then– he’s prone to losing his temper if he’s pushed a bit too far, and he can’t turn down an offer for a fight, no matter how foolish it may be, and he’s always desperately pushing himself toward the next big opponent, whether it’s a creature his size or not– whether he can get out unscathed or not. Some would call him a damned fool, and he’d laugh them off, but he knows they’re right– he just wants to prove himself, to break his limits until there are no more limits, and chase his father down; his last and ultimate opponent, so he can teach him a lesson and make him understand exactly what he’d left behind.
History: Seiya was born beneath an unlucky star to a human mother and a yokai father, and some would say this doomed him from the start.
His parents’ marriage was hardly a happy one to begin with– his mother was a gentle spirit, a mere mortal woman by the name of Setsuna, and his father was a powerful inugami warrior by the name of Kamui, one considered a prince among the reclusive dog demons of the Crescent Isle. Their union had attracted quite the uproar, with Setsuna’s parents casting her out for falling in love with a demon and Kamui’s brothers ridiculing him for falling for a feeble human, and the seeds of resentment were quickly planted right from the moment the two were wed. Setsuna adored her husband, but he quickly started to have second thoughts, especially as he felt himself growing more distant from the clan he’d been raised within– only moreso when it turned out the two of them were to have a child.
Seiya was born on a night with a cruel black sky, one where the moon strangely did not shine– only the light of one star, bright and brutal against the inky skyline. His status as one standing between two worlds was apparent from the beginning– his face bore the markings of an inugami, his ears that of a dog demon, but there was a distinctly human quality to his hands, to his tiny, delicate body. Setsuna only gazed upon him with adoration, but there was something distinctly cold in the way Kamui looked at his only child– illegible, but so lacking in the fondness his wife reserved for their child.
Setsuna gave him the gift of a name– Seiya, for the star that gleamed over him on the night he was born, not caring if it was a sign of ill fortune.
Kamui gave him the gift of departure, disappearing in the morning without a word to his wife.
And so, Setsuna was left to raise him alone, in her little cottage on the Crescent Isle– she had no idea where her husband went, but she knew, distantly, that he would not be returning, so she did not bother to hope. She knew it would be difficult to raise a half-yokai child, especially one who had been born beneath an unlucky star, knowing his spiritual power would likely be affected, but she hardly cared, even despite the… trials it did bring. She channeled all of her energy into doing what she could to raise Seiya as well as she could, teaching him of kindness, of love for others, of the merits of life and all the beauty within the world– but there was only so much she could do, really, when the stage had been set so. Every time her son would ask about his father, she would deflect, saying they were happy without him, that he didn’t need to worry, but this did little to dissuade Seiya’s curiosity.
One day, as Seiya headed back to his mother’s cottage from the nearby village she’d send him to for shopping, he heard a strange howling from the depths of the woods around her home, and his curiosity won over his rationality. He left the bags of items by the cottage and took off into the forest, looking for the source– only to find a strange, massive, demonic white dog tearing into some unidentifiable creature, one that felt indescribably familiar.
The feeling must have been mutual, because once those bright pink eyes landed on Seiya, the creature froze and abandoned its kill, quick to rush out into the night.
It was on that night he finally asked his mother about his father, and he would not take Setsuna’s deflections as an answer; he wanted to know. He needed to know, he deserved to, and he was tired of her dancing around the issue. And though she never wanted to, Setsuna finally told him– his father had effectively been a prince to a clan of yokai, and… he fell out of love with her as his loyalty to them called him back, and he’d left them both the morning after Seiya was born. He hadn’t been back since and would clearly not return– and with a fragile, disingenuous smile, Setsuna insisted she was happy all the same, and didn’t need Kamui in her life.
Seiya had never seen that kind of heartbreak in his mother’s eyes.
It was in that very moment that he resolved to hunt his father down– he didn’t tell her this, of course. He merely wrapped his arms around her and told her he was happy, too, just to have her, but internally he was seething, burning with rage over the fact that his father could’ve left a human woman all by herself to raise a half-inugami child, without a word or offer to help over the years. Ever since that day, he’s dedicated himself to becoming strong, to hunting his father down– and it hasn’t been so long since he’s left his mother’s cottage with the intent on seeing that intention through.
Significant NPC’s:
Setsuna - Seiya’s dearly beloved mother, who he writes to frequently and would do anything to protect. She’s a human woman in her early forties, with long, pale pink hair and pale indigo eyes– most would call her pretty, but indescribably sad. She loves her son with all her heart, and secretly still yearns for the husband that abandoned her, even though she knows it’s not worth it.
Kamui - Seiya’s deeply loathed father, who he is currently trying to hunt down and teach a lesson to in his mother’s name. He’s a tall, intimidating man in his humanoid form, who looks unfortunately similar to his son– the same ears and markings, white hair, but his eyes are a harsh hot pink. He knows he’s done his wife and son wrong, but can only think to run from his sins instead of confront them.
