Tellan Eleint
Gender: FemaleAge: 18
Race: Human
Nationality: Ashlands
Appearance: Scrawny, short and pale, the 5’ 4” Tellan had really two notable features, eyes whose colors swirled around blue, green, and grey and her obsessively maintained raven black hair that reaches just below her shoulders. The rest of her general outward appearance could be mistaken for any of the other malnourished orphans that survive on the streets of Darkveil, haunted eyes filled with memories of sleepless nights of running, hiding, and scavenging, ash stained clothing from taking shelter in alleyways where the chimney sweepers brush the ash fall from the buildings into, calloused hands and feet from the stone streets and walls.
Her daily attire is a long multi-piece black dress that brushes the tops of her feet, with an extremely high neckline, and sleeves that cover her fingers. Certain sections of the dress can be adjusted and removed for utilitarian or combat purposes. Black leather moccasins over black wool stockings, black leather gloves, and a black hooded cape complete the ensemble. Tellan is often perceived by passersby as one in mourning or a disciple of Lunala taking care of those who grieve for people who have died.
Personality: Starting and growing in the harsh realities of Darkveil as an orphan develops a multitude of survival and trauma instincts. Hyperawareness, constantly cataloging people and things and performing risk assessments of their immediate or long term danger to Tellan’s existence. Social anxiety in the form of remaining silent so as to not draw attention. Stoicism in response to physical trauma so as to avoid showing weakness to predators and avoid being seen as easy prey. Insomnia, there is no safe place therefore there is no rest, being able to wake up at the slightest hint of something out of the expected is a core survival instinct. General anxiety of being touched, as violence was/is the most common form of physical touch she has experienced.
Now you take this collection of issues and you mould them in the fires of a faith whose tenets preach of a coming apocalypse that promises a fresh start in the aftermath and you find yourself with a fanatical convert capable of extreme violence and a moral compass that only points in one direction. Tellan seethes with the fires of destruction and has no vision of what will or can exist beyond her duty.
History: ‘Our faith is not one of peace, our faith is one of creation and destruction. Our faith worships the apocalypse in the form of an ancient dragon god. Young Tellan, you are our herald.’ These were the words said to her by those, who had given her a name, a purpose, who had rescued her from the streets of Darkveil. An existence filled with starvation, fear, dehydration, and paranoia. There was not a day that went by that she did not need to fight, extort, trick to find sustenance. There was not a night that went by that she did not fear the revenge of those she surpassed that morning or of those who would see her disappear into the criminal underworld. It was more than common that these fates inevitably befell any number of orphans, the rare occurrences of being picked up by a religious order and brought into one of their temples may have been the kindest fate and even that was tinged by rumors of abuse.
When an elderly man dressed in black robes came to one of her hiding spots with offerings of food, water, and the promises of safety it was ten year old Tellan’s first massive leap of faith to accept. The space she was brought to was a converted tavern with a massive hearth in the middle of the tavern floor and its wooden floor covered in cushions and blankets. There were a few more black robed individuals that were hanging around or performing upkeep and kitchen duties and it was clear when she was handed off to one of them that she was to begin her training by learning these basic life skills. Each evening, the elderly man held a sermon and academic classes covering philosophy, writing, reading, and arithmetic. Such were the first four years of Tellan’s life at the tavern turned monastery.
At the age of fourteen, Tellan underwent a coming of age ceremony that consisted of a full submersion in ash for twelve hours and the tracing of tattoos in charcoal through her ash covered skin as she emerged. Newly dressed in the black robes of the others, Tellan’s rigorous physical and religious indoctrination into the dragon cult began with a barefoot walk over charcoal embers. Four years later, Tellan was given a set of obsidian prayer beads and a mission, a crusade, eliminate the false Ashen Fathers and bring about the awakening of the Dragon.
