Far-flung from the mountain home
The hammer-prince does seeking roam
Treading lands beneath open sky
Where a dwarf should never die.
Honor-bound by the oath he made
Surrender of his quest forbade
To not return 'til such a time
He paid for his brother's crime.

Ulmir is a young dwarf that stands no taller than your average dwarf, perhaps four and a half feet in height. Yet even so, he has a wise and pensive gaze, and speaks with an imperious voice that commands attention. His eyes have a dark and earthy hue, his skin is pale, and his hair is black with touches of charcoal.
As befits one hailing from Frost Gale, Ulmir is well-prepared to face winter's wrath. His traveling clothes are all thick and sturdy, his cloak marked with runes of protection, and his boots well-worn from use. The circlet he wears denotes him as a dwarf of some rank, and he carries an incredibly expensive looking smoking pipe on his person. Most notable among his possessions is the stalwart hammer he carries for combat.
Personality:
I looked into his eyes, once, that dwarf they call Ulmir
And saw in those eyes neither pettiness nor fear
What I did see was something I'll not forget:
A grim determination with a dose of regret.

Ulmir is loyal to his people first and foremost. He has a strong moral fiber, and will always try to do what he deems is right, but if he should be made to choose he will always choose to serve the dwarves of Frost Gale.
Though some might assume a dwarven prince might be haughty or cold, Ulmir is a rather warm soul in his own quiet way. The prince knows a fair bit of poetry, and is wont to speak it from time to time. He is generally a level-headed, calm and focused individual, measured in his words, with a steady and clear voice that commands attention. It takes a herculean effort to push him over the edge, but once so pushed, Ulmir's wrath is hot as the forge once he has reached his limit.
The hammer-prince prefers not to solve his problems with violence... but if it must be done, then so be it. Ulmir's hammer rests within easy reach at his side, for he knows the reality of Charon is one of death and loss, and he shall not shy away from the clarion call of battle.
History:
Thalmir was his father's name
Thalmir too his brother's name
Ulmir was never meant to reign
A third son and the seventh of his name.

The throne of Frost Gale is the Bleakfort, but it is not the only dwarven settlement. So, too, is there the Pale Mountain, a snow-capped monstrosity of ice and rock that towers above its kin. The land around it is not forgiving, nor well-suited for settlement, but a colony of dwarves has long thrived within its confines, their home carved from the mountain itself.
Prince Thalmir rules this small settlement of dwarves. He is brother to the ruler of the Bleakfort, of lower rank and station but of royal blood still. His wife, Ulrana, bore him three sons: Thalmir, Dormir, and Ulmir. The first was raised to one day lead the small dwarven realm; Dormir to captain the Bleakfort's garrison; and Ulmir to serve as ambassador.
Young Ulmir received all the lessons he needed to excel in his path. He learned how to fight, as all proper dwarves should, but his lessons were largely focused on other matters: politics, foreign etiquette, poetry, the laws of the dwarven realm, the needs of the people, and, of course, loyalty to the King, his family, and his people. Ulmir was prepared to accept his role in life. Ulmir had his own desires, but the needs of the realm took precedence over his own. The young dwarf knew that and accepted that.
Unfortunately, Thalmir the Younger had ambitions too large, and he thought his father's line should be the one to rule in the dwarven lands. He made a plot to take over the Bleakfort... which was ultimately discovered, staining the line of Thalmir with grave dishonor.
Traditionally, the severe laws of the dwarves dictate that grave consequences fall upon the families of those who would betray their realm, placing blame on the criminal and their kin alike. Ulmir recognized that his brother Dormir would be best suited to replace their eldest brother as future ruler, and so took the weight of punishment upon himself. He went before the Bleakfort's ruler and bid that he be allowed to make recompense for his treacherous kinsman's deeds. The Bleakfort agreed, and Ulmir's banishment was pronounced. He would find some means to pay his imprisoned brother's debt to the crown, or else he would not be allowed to return at all.
Ulmir said goodbye to his family - except for his imprisoned brother - knowing he would not see them again for some time. And knowing that his exile would be meaningless if he did not find some way to serve his people, Ulmir prepared himself to study the distant corners of Charon, to find valuable information for his folk, and to find treasures and artifacts of value to bring back to the Bleakfort as wergild for his brother's crime.
