It’s been months since Das left the Red Riders, and in that time, he has learned much from acting on his own. Still, part of that is because of the guidance offered to him by those he considers allies and role models – friends, even, if they would call him as much, too. His entire purpose behind setting out was to become strong enough to make change, to set straight some of his wrongs. Even if he can’t fix everything, doing something is better than nothing. The smallest acts can have the largest impact. He learned that firsthand when he met Leandros.
While he has strived to uphold some sense of honor and duty, acting in a way that he thinks would not only make the Lion of the Landing proud but in a way that might imitate the man, something still feels like it’s not quite right, like it’s not quite big enough. There are heroes of the realm, and then there are scattered adventurers just doing their best. What does it take to be someone worthy of being a hero? Maybe it isn’t seeking glory in heroics at all, just doing what matters the most…
Oftentimes, Das finds himself pondering over this while traveling. He doesn’t have many thoughts going through his mind, but he knows that the values he has taken up hold true. He wants to be a protector, to defend those who can’t help themselves. His sword isn’t meant to be a source of fear and destruction, it’s a tool to be used to help people. That’s what he’s spent his time striving to do more than anything. He doesn’t seek out danger for the thrill, he seeks it to find who needs help. In doing so, he has met plenty of people that have only further strengthened his resolve. Perhaps, when the time is right, he will feel worthy enough to bring his deeds to Leandros and join his guild as a proper member.
Fortunately for adventurers, there is always work to be done. This time, it comes in the form of smoke over the horizon, mixing with clouds and painting the sky a dark and ominous gray. In the Ash Lands, this might not usually be cause for concern given the proximity to the volcano, but in the Marsh Flats? Smoke can only mean fire, and this much smoke in the air is concerning.
With a furrowed brow, Das rushes towards the smoke.
