Royal Mail Service
An early royal decree from King Eldenwar Solarian in the year 14180 forming its establishment. The Royal Mail Service constituted a major effort to unite and connect the continent after the chaos of the Rune Wars. In its early years, mail service was primarily delivered via ships and on horseback. A series of mail posts popped up along the roads of Charon with stables attached to give fresh horses to postal riders. This soon developed into roadside inns and small farmer markets as the importance of delivering goods, services, and mail exponentially grew.
As the demand for the Royal Mail exponentially grew, the current postmaster at the time, Jebediah Muskcove began to develop a relationship with the Winged Expeditionary Force to use their Drake Hussars as secondary mail carriers. This continued relationship turned to the breeding and taming of drakes which have been named as the Letter Drake and Postal Drake. While still new to the Service, the postal drakes have catapulted the speed of delivery astronomically as the Postal Drakes are capable of crossing seas while using one of the many ships as a resting spot and Letter Drakes are far faster than any normal courier when delivering within cities.
The successor to Jebediah, Alius Skyborne took up the mantle of Postmaster General at the beginning of a transformational period for the organization and has made a lot of efficiency upgrades to it. Setting up permanent sailing patterns for ships to optimize the Postal Drakes flights, assigning a continuous quest to the Knight Order of Tegrid to protect routes through Moonglade and Marsh Flats, and various other forward thinking processes. As Alius Skyborne is nearing his retirement, rumors of his successor abound amongst the elite of Capitol Landing and how they will handle the Service.
While the architecture and style of cities are very region specific, in general an adventurer can expect access to a harbor and a postal service near that harbor. This reflects the core of how the government in Capitol Landing can maintain stability across the land.
Domesticated Greater Drake, "The Postal Drake"
Everywhere
Power Level | Alignment |
Extreme | Docile |
Description |
The Greater Drake descends from a species of drake that has evolved to look closely like its ancestor, the dragon, and is more commonly referred to and recognized as 'the Postal Drake' by a large population of Charon. The Greater Drake is a domesticated subspecies of its kind, most often seen in use as a working creature similar to a draft horse or oxen in domestic settings; this subspecies gained its popularity in the Postal Service due to its complex intellect, ability to carry great weights, and defend its cargo with ease. The Greater Drake is always accompanied by a rider of the Postal Service to guide it, and wears a number of secured saddle bags full of letters, scrolls, and packages. |

Description |
The Lesser Drake descends from a species of tiny drakes and wyverns; unlike the Greater Drake, the Lesser Drake will never reach the larger size of its counterpart. This subspecies became popularized as a rival to the carrier bird in recent years due to their bird-like size, ability to carry larger weights, and ease of training; while not terribly popular amongst the lower classes of Charon due to their price, some nobility and businesses prefer to keep a Lesser Drake on hand to run short errands and make quick, local deliveries, giving this tiny draconic creature the nickname of "The Letter Drake". |

Alius Skyborne, General Postmaster of the Royal Mail Service
Capitol Landing, Dwarf, Male
Appearance |
Description | Personality |
The third General Postmaster of Charon to have been appointed to the position since its establishment in 14180. In his youth, Alius was a messenger for the Royal Mail Service. He introduced the first Postal Drake to his home of Sky Peak in 14820; and then continent-wide in 14970 after his appointment to General Postmaster. He has done much for the Royal Mail Service since then, but rumours state that Alius may be at the end of his lifespan, and a fourth Postmaster may soon be appointed. | An old man deeply passionate for his work. Alius has a reputation for becoming hyper-focused to the point of self-neglect, and often must be reminded to take care of mundane tasks. He always seems rushed; and is always going somewhere, or always busy with something; making him a hard man to find. He is soft-spoken, hard-working, and has been a massive boon to optimizing the processes in his field. |
