Flare Redscale
Art by u/Ion_Ibusaka on Reddit
Gender: Female (She/Her)
Age: 25
Race: Half-dragon
Nationality: Ash Lands
Appearance: Standing at just under six feet in height, Flare is a moderately tall humanoid woman whose appearance, at first glance, could be mistaken for a tiefling. This is largely due to her horns and patches of red skin under her eyes and across her shoulders and clavicle, while the skin over the rest of her form is more fair in tone. A closer look, however, would reveal these patches to in fact be draconic scales, albeit too scattered and soft to be of any real defense. Wavy red hair of the same color reaches down past the small of her back and frames her face, constrasting her mismatched eye colors (one blue, one violet) and not quite hiding the long, pointed ears sticking out from either side of her head.
Flare tends to wear looser, more flowing clothes, the better to move around and perform acrobatic maneuvers in. She rarely wears more than a cropped sarashi over her chest, save for the occasional coat or jacket if needed for the weather, while her legs are often clad in baggy brown pants designed for martial arts, with a blue skirt, not too dissimilar to the bottom of a robe, atop them. Her hands and feet are usually bound in bandages and wrappings, and the ensemble is completed with a rope belt and armband.
Personality: There are many words one could use to describe Flare Redscale. Boisterous? Certainly true. Impatient? At times. Wrathful? Only if others have invoked her anger first. In truth, Flare, while genuinely good-hearted, has simply not spent much time around people in general, and has very little understanding of social cues and etiquette, and very little desire to learn them. As such, her strong personality can often cause her to come off as blunt, rude, and crass to those who have just met her. Should anyone take the time to get to know Flare, however, they would come to see her as a well-meaning, if occasionally proud, young woman with an ironclad sense of justice and a nearly unwavering determination, quick to laugh off spite and malice directed at her yet utterly loyal and stalwart, to a fault, to her friends and allies. She rarely sits still for long, always eager to find adventure and improve her own still, martial or otherwise. And for all that she can come off as somewhat dim or slow-witted, her mind is an iron trap when it comes to combat or other areas she possesses interest in.
History: Much of Flare's early life was spent learning one thing: Survival. To say that dragons don't make great parents is, perhaps, somehwat misleading, but in this case it was certainly true. Perhaps it is simply because the dragoness known as "Violet Eyes" to the few mortals aware of her existence had little ideas on how to raise a half-human child, the result of a union few know about and fewer still understand the workings of. Or perhaps the paranoia of the dragoness, remarkable even by the standards of her kind, led to her hiding away with her child and ensuring she would be capable of taking care of herself by the time the wyrm grew too paranoid to allow her to remain. Or maybe, just maybe, even dragons can be poor parents to their spawn. Whatever the case, the first dozen years of Flare's life were a constant race and struggle, fighting tooth and nail to carve out her own place, until one evening she returned to the cavern to find her mother gone, never to be seen again.
It would be almost two years before Flare encountered her first humanoid settlement, a lone caravan of nomads passing through the Ash Lands. Outcasts and misfits alike, they took her in, taught her the common tongue and literacy, even as she taught them the tricks to hunting and foraging in the wastes. For ten years, she lived among them, taking the surname of "Redscale" and refining her fighting ability to the point of it being less like a wild animal, and more something suited to her actual body. They travelled up to Dragon's Cradle, down to King's Valley, and all across the Zeinav Desert many times in those years. Eventually, though, wanderlust and a desire for self-improvement led to Flare bidding her newfound family farewell, and she departed to take the first steps of her new journey.
