Alignments in Charon
We wanted to bring a very subtle yet robust Alignment system to Charon, where things like good and evil mean something when it comes to the application of spells and abilities. Our Alignment System is split into two different applications depending on who they effect, be it player characters or npc monsters.
There is no forced alignment when it comes to player characters, meaning you do not have to choose an alignment upon character creation. In fact, all player characters will be considered neutral at creation and for the entirety of their existence. This will remain the case until a character receives something that specifically alters their alignment, be it a class, spell, or effect. All minions, npc's and followers of that specific character will follow their owners alignment unless otherwise affected. Alignments can not willingly change based on action or intent, and will only be altered by the direct effect of something on site.
Most creatures you find listed and used on our site will have alignments attached to them. This will be based on the guide below and will be listed in their description. If an obvious alignment is not listed assume a creatures alignment to be neutral. Different abilities may have alternate or increased effects against a specific character or creature depending on their alignment.
Unlike most versions of alignment, ours is not dictated by morality but instead is based on intent behind an action. This means someone's alignment is not determined by what smaller actions they preform, but the overall intent behind their intentions.
If you characters alignment is altered by an outside effect, such as a class. This does not force you to role play in that manner, and instead only matters when it comes to effects of spells or abilities. You can still roleplay someone doing bad things even if your alignment is good, and vice versa, it only really concerns the effects that specifically affect the alignment.
Alignments
Neutral
Neutral is the base alignment and applies to 90% of the population of Charon. Being neutral does not make you good or bad, as most people will do good and bad things in their life time depending on the situation. Throughout one's life they may do goods things to benefit themselves or their community, but may also do bad things to preserve themselves or their community. Neutral is the normal everyday view on life, doing what you must to get by and survive.
Docile
Docile refers to creatures that are normally passive, calm and do not seek violence on a normal basis. This does not mean that they are not capable of violence, but will only use it as a last resort. Docile beings are considered good natured, but do not do things with the desire to commit or spread goodness through the world, and instead simply exist in a passive or reclusive nature for the majority of their lives. While many may considered a docile being to be a good being, they themselves do not understand the meaning of good.
Hostile
Much like docile, a hostile creature does not choose to be bad or commit violence out of any intent to be bad, but instead exist in a passive state of violence. They will actively lash out, attack or fight things, mostly out of a desire to survive. Hostile creatures will almost always resort to violence first, choosing to fight instead of run. While Hostile creatures are often seen as evil or bad, they are just existing with a tendency to be violent.
Good
Good refers to beings that choose to be or do good things, such as helping, defending, or supporting others. The good alignment is a choice to be a good person, to promote good qualities like honesty, compassion and honor. While neutral beings can do good things and be good natured, good aligned beings will always choose to do kind things above anything else, making it their primary personality trait.
Evil
Evil beings are the exact opposite of good, they are beings that choose to commit evil, often being hateful, mean or selfish. Being evil is a choice to be bad, to do awful things and commit evil against others. They will often hurt for their own gain, and sometimes even do so just for pleasure. Evil beings can do good, but will almost have an alternate motive behind the actions. Do bad things does not make one evil, however evil aligned beings will make doing bad things the core of their personality.
