“More for me then.” Vail says as he eagerly takes a bite out of the meat.
He finishes chewing before answering Zarius’s question. His eyes wander away from the tiefling as he begins speaking softly, not wanting the captain to overhear his words.
“I told you before, I can’t be around when people suffer. It was either I get out of there then and there or things would have been a lot worse. I took a preventive measure; I’ll leave it at that. I didn’t hurt you, did I? I can’t recall anything before standing at the front of this vessel.”
He sits in silence for a short while. He kept his answer purposefully vague, but in truth, he couldn’t fully explain to Zarius what might have happened even if he wanted to. Every time he blacked out, he was forced to piece together what happened. New scars would appear, the blood of others would be on his person, sometimes he’d be in a new location; usually somewhere out of sight. He could piece together a general flow of actions but couldn't define any limits. He could have fought the oncoming guards until he was in pieces for all he knew.
“Oh yeah.” He says as he reaches into his coat, retrieving the vial of Sootlings, the Oozeling, and his Talking Head.
“Needed to use the potion. Our friend on the top deck was a little too large to try to take out quietly. I needed to hit with full force while also maintaining the element of surprise. Even then it took a second blow to take him out. I’m glad we didn’t have to deal with any others.” He says as he hands Zarius’s equipment back to him.
The cold air was taking its toll on his exhausted body. He knew his eyes would soon give out as he was forced to endure the remainder of the voyage. He decided to do one last thing before resting.
He extended an open hand to Zarius with a smile.
“Come on, this one is genuine.”
