Missing tigers, alligators, cobras and whatever animal counted as rare or exotic pets being secretly appropriated from their cages, sanctuaries or masters was probably some brazen fool's idea of earning ransom, or some wide-eyed idealist's harebrained scheme in their quest for animal rights without regard for whether said animals could actually live in the wilds. It was not Ambika's position to postulate one way or another, but it sure was for her to take up a request regarding the matter from the WEF. She personally had no love for animals, but it never hurt to earn herself some goodwill, especially since she had every intention of joining for her own reasons in the future. There was a report that one of the upper class pet suppliers in the city just suffered a break-in a number of hours before daylight, so Ambika carried herself to the crime scene and looked around. Whoever broke in were definitely not professionals, judging by the sheer chaos they left behind with visible scuff marks, ripped furs and blood stains littered all over the room. The only sign of professionalism was the fact that the alarm never rang the entire night, and that the doors were still intact. Either someone was bribed, or they had a competent enough rogue. Some further observation would inform her that there were three intruders: a shorty, a person of average height, and a towering individual.[1] The trio might have believed they could get away once they got on an escape vehicle, but they had another thing coming: a former assassin who knew damn well how to track the scent of blood for her prey[2]. With that, Ambika found herself travelling to the Shadewood Forest yet again to find someone. Hopefully she would fare better this time around. [1]The Hunter - Investigation Kit (post 1)A collection of the necessary tools for any investigations, its use over time while searching will generate information on the scene. During the first post of use, the user gathers information from a specific area that reveals the number of individuals, their weight, and their height over the last few hours. During the second post of use, direction of travel, track details (shoes, paws, etc), and general movement (did a fight occur, do they have a limp, etc) are all revealed to the hunter. During the third post of use, cloth fragments, hair/fur particles, and other such physical particles that would be relevant to the scene are discovered. [2]Blood Scent You are able to smell blood as easy as any other normal smell, regardless of how little the amount is. Once blood has left a body, you are able to pick up on the scent and follow it, making this a useful feature for tracking injured prey or hunting for food. The scent is pleasant to you and non invasive, and can not be turned off or affected by spells.

Stealing exotic animals isn’t exactly out of the realm of possibility for the things that Astrid would expect to be investigating for the WEF, but it does seem a little strange that it’s happening. There are all kinds of creatures in Charon, so for someone to be targeting exotic animals themselves makes her wonder if the thieves aren’t bold enough to go for some of the more challenging creatures of the wilds with magic and massive sizes. There are a lot of options for why someone might be doing this: revenge, petty theft, another mob looking for a quick Solar. At this point, she’s just glad it’s not dead bodies… in theory.
It sure would be easier to figure out who’s responsible if she could do something as convenient as just… looking into the past. That’d make things too easy.
Whoever did this sure did leave a mess, though, and the guards mentioned that someone else came by to investigate earlier, and Astrid wonders if they have a personal stake in this or are just helping to help. Maybe they found a lead? With a general description of that person and not able to really decipher much of the crime scene on her own, Astrid sets off to find the individual who seemed to have some purpose in their chosen direction of travel.
A tracker and woodsman Astrid is not, so she mostly just trudges through the forest wondering why the heck someone came out here to look for clues… unless they know where the culprits are and are ready to take them down immediately. Oh yeah, that’s something Astrid can do. Does she call out for the person out here? Either it’s the investigator or the perpetrators… Both options work for her.
“Hellooooo? ‘Scuse me! I’m lookin’ fer someone who came from a crime scene out heeeere!”

The old soul had noticed the heavy-set footsteps for a while now and was contemplating what to do about it when she heard the distinctive cadence of a child's voice calling out, prompting her to stop and turn around to see whoever was behind her. With that, Ambika found herself laying her eyes on a child armed to the teeth from top to bottom. Four theories sprung to her head on what this could mean:- 1. that some wealthy money spent a whole lot of money decking out their kid so that they could have effective playventures, 2. this was one of those child adventurers who had the spunk to survive despite everything going against them, 3. someone who just looks like a child but isn't really one, or 4. someone pretending to be a child adventurer for some reason.
None of the theories suggested she had any chance of getting out of this by convincing this young stranger to leave, and so she was going to have to play along one way or another. That she did not sense anyone else around in the vicinity[1] suggested theory 1 was unlikely unless the family secretly wanted their child dead, which left theories 2, 3 and 4. Hopefully this doesn't end with her having to lay her hands on a child, or a child-like person. That was a bottom she hoped she didn't have to sink back into. "That would be me. Are you here to investigate the animal thefts as well?" The old soul started, surmising she should cut to the point immediately. Now, to see how the child would respond. If she affirms and does not make any particular moves against her, she would wait for the child to come to her then continue walking along while making sure she does not end up ahead of the child to avoid any sudden backstabs. If the child gave her name, she would give only Shanti as hers - a sign of her distrust over the very appearance of the child itself.
[1]Magicians SecretNothing can get passed the Hunter's ability to sense their surroundings now. You are able to sense any hidden object, person or living creature, regardless of how they are hidden. You will get a mental ping of the exact location of where something is trying to be hidden from you, and can even sense things that are magically hidden, such as by spells or abilities. You can sense invisible enemies or detect things covered up by magic.

Not necessarily to Astrid’s surprise but instead to her delight, a voice calls out to confirm, and Astrid quickly meets up with the person in question (though she does keep her distance just in case things get hairy). “Ah, yer fast, gettin’ all the way out here already,” she says with a smile and no indication of malice in her voice whatsoever. “Aye, I’m lookin’ into the break in, too. Couldn’t really decipher much fer clues ‘cept that the guards said someone came out this way. Guessin’ that was you.” Stepping forward, Astrid offers her hand to shake. “Nice ta meet ya, I’m Astrid Stormstone. Are ya from the WEF too or did ya just answer the call fer help?”
The questions are necessary: Astrid wants to know who she’s dealing with, but she asks them earnestly. This other person doesn’t seem to have anything on their person that would suggest they’re the culprit behind the break in, so Astrid doesn’t seem to suspect as much. “Anyway, ya got a good idea a’ where these suckers went? I’m ready ta knock some heads an’ find out who’s behind all a’ this.”

Astrid Stormstone... Ah yes, a child adventurer who was said to have many logic-defying feats under her belt. If it were really her, it would be a godsend. Ambika was far from an expert in incapacitating multiple enemies when it came with the unfortunate restriction of no deaths allowed. Could she really trust the girl at first glance though, even if she is making her so-called affiliations clear near immediately? Running through the pros and cons in her mind, if the child is exactly who she proclaims to be, Ambika probably would not be getting out of a battle with her without a horrible beating. If she were anyone else other than that... Well, she would just have to cross that bridge when she came to it, huh. Gods, she was starting to feel like Florentio whenever he went on about the why's and why not's. She was always more of a loner and a follower more than anything. "Ambika Shanti Phairot. Currently not affiliated with the WEF." Ambika decided to just throw everything to the wind and be completely honest. The level of finesse required to maneuver through her paranoia was just too much, and if the child was who she said she was, it would be worth much more to have her name remembered by someone as significant as Astrid. "My senses tell me the culprit's getaway vehicle went along this route. From what I recall, the route should soon be too narrow for it, so we should come upon something soon. Also, from what I could tell with a short inspection of the crime scene, there were three intruders involved." Sure enough, the two would soon come upon multiple wagons, rickshaws, carts... whatever could carry animals, it was there. The vehicles were empty, but there were what appeared to be various groups of individuals glaring at one another with disdain. The atmosphere seemed like there could be a standoff breaking out at any moment. "Stop. I see about... 15 armed individuals ahead of us. From left to right, two trios, a group of four, another trio and a pair. None of them appear particularly skillful, but looks are deceiving and they have the advantage of numbers." Ambika stopped Astrid at a respectable distance before they would be noticed, her keen eyesight[1] working out the enemies that stood ahead of them. "How would you like to go about this? I personally prefer to avoid direct confrontations. Not my forte," she pulled out her crossbow to indicate as much, "but I can provide distractions."

Your aim and range as a marksman has increased, making you even deadlier at long ranges while using a range weapon. You can see just as clear as normal but now at twice the distance, letting you track and see targets even at incredibly long distances. Your reach with a weapon has also increased, letting you fire a weapon twice as far as you normally would be able to.

“Nice ta meet ya, Miss Ambika,” Astrid says earnestly. She doesn’t think much of how much thinking Ambika seems to do about the predicament because sure, it is kind of weird to come across a heavily armed child in the middle of the woods also looking for criminals. Astrid gets it. “Thanks fer takin’ up the call. If yer senses can tell ya all that, then I wish I had yer senses,” she jokes. In actuality, if Ambika is right, that’ll make this all a lot easier.
Since Ambika was already on the trial, Astrid decides to let her lead the way. Despite her heavily armored stature, Astrid is just light enough on her feet to not be tromping through the underbrush carelessly when the situation calls for it.[1] Of course, it doesn’t stop her armor from clinking, but the way she moves in it makes it seem like it does nothing to impede her.[2]
Slowing to a stop and peeking past Ambika to see what they’re up against, Astrid takes a look at the group. Or rather, a couple of groups? “Hmm… Well, I ain’t scared a’ knockin’ a few heads in,” she says confidently. These common thugs don’t scare her. “But if we do that, we might not get more info outta them. I can have a chat with ‘em. I’m real influential, ya see…” A smirk crosses Astrid’s face. She knows how to work her childish guiles on them. “Who’d suspect a weird kid ta be out in the woods?”

"Having heightened senses is not always a boon if you are unequipped to handle the increased stimuli." Ambika was never a conversationalist, so she would absolutely take jokes entirely seriously, sometimes to the horror of others. Besides, she found their culprits by smelling blood of all things - blood that will only smell pleasant to her no matter how much she wished otherwise, thanks to years upon years of priming. It has served her well, but by gods did she sometimes wish she could pretend not to have noticed such scents. Listening to Astrid's suggestion, the old soul would have some concerns... but ultimately considered this an opportunity to assess the child's capabilities. Though she wished that horrible pragmatism in her would pipe down for once, given that she was just about to take a child adventurer's words at face value and believe she would be just fine against 15 people."In that case, I will sneak ahead and see where the animals have gone. They are beyond that path." Ambika pointed straight ahead at where the path narrowed. "I will keep an ear out if you need me. Otherwise, say my name when you reach the end of said path." With that, Ambika would fade out of Astrid's sight [1] and trust herself to walk past all of their prospective enemies without being noticed in the slightest [2]. Re-appropriating the Oniwanban Shadow gear from that Moon Rebel ninja was still one of the best choices she ever made, even as she rued herself for how readily she slipped back into making them part of her mainstays. At the end of the narrow path stood a makeshift podium on a stage in the opening beyond it with cages lined up next to the trees in a curve. At the area stood a bunch of masked people, their choice of clothing given an idea of their possible affiliations - alchemists, merchants, maybe a noble or two, and an unconscious man in the middle with two people standing over him. In other words, an auction that was stalling due to some kind of feud going on. "Ahem! We shall now resume bidding!" The Halfling that was standing on the podium shouted. "Going once, going twice..."
[1]Concealment Scroll This scroll or seal tag can be placed and used remotely or used directly by the Oniwanban Shadow. When used or activated it makes whatever it is attached too or a medium sized space completely invisible and undetectable for the next two post, unless the tag is exposed to fire to which the invisibility ends early. [2]Silent Step You have trained and honed your body to be as quiet as it can be. Your foot steps now make no noise when stepping, walking or moving across surfaces. Your foot steps are muffled and silent, allowing you to move without being heard. This does not work if you are running however and can still be heard when moving at quicker speeds.

Ambika isn’t going to try to stop her? Okay, maybe Astrid could get used to her name meaning something now and again. She’s always happy to prove adults wrong, but not often when they’re on the same side and trying to work together. “Sounds good. I’ll see what I can find out.”
Tapping the wolf head pendant around her neck, Astrid’s armor disappears from her person.[1] Then, her metal prosthetic, which is often mistaken for armor, takes on the form of just… an arm in a sleeve, looking no different than her other gloved arm.[2] A useful feature she built into the prosthetic’s abilities, really. It’s practical and helpful. Granted, it doesn’t hold up to physical inspection, but who’s going to check a kid’s arm, really? With that, Astrid tumbles out of the bushes and strolls up to the situation with all the goons and bidders like she belongs.
“Hey, we ain’t biddin’ on all this!” one of the thugs shouts at the halfling. “Where’s our pay? Youse said bring ‘em here, an’ we’ll get paid.”
“A’ course,” the halfling replies. “You’ll get your dues when we have the bids in place.”
“Ooh, are we biddin’ on the animals?” Astrid asks. This completely diverts the attention of all the rough and tumble adults present to the kid standing amongst them.
“Who the hell are you?” another thug asks, glowering at her from down his nose.
“I’m here same as you,” Astrid says simply. “Don’t worry, I ain’t a problem, right, mister?” She looks directly at the halfling and gives a sugary sweet smile. “Tell ‘em, I don’t mean nothin’. I’m just here ta watch.”[3]
The halfling looks over Astrid for a moment, and a strange magical gleam hits his eyes. “Ah, yes, a’ course. She’s perfectly fine. Now…where were we?”
With a smile, Astrid wanders around the camp, but the goons aren’t necessarily fooled by her. Sure, she’s only got a little hammer, but she did just appear out of nowhere. Did she hire them?

Ambika had to admit, that Astrid would just saunter in like she was supposed to be there was quite an audacious feat, even if a touch of Archfey magic was involved. That art was all but lost to her following the death of her family. Now, there were three main parties here:- 1. Astrid and herself (currently invisible) 2. Presumably 5 groups of thugs amounting to 15 people total, likely of different affiliations given their hostility towards one another 3. The Halfling auctioneer and the masked attendees, consisting of a pair of alchemists, a trio of merchants, two presumable nobles, and an unconscious man with two people on the side. The old soul could already feel the loathsome agony creeping up her bones. There was zero chance this was not going to end up being a bloody mess, wasn't it? Sigh. She could already hear her former partner whispering "Embrace the chaos," in her ear, even if he hadn't done that in 35 years at this point. And as though right on cue, one of the masked nobles(?) pointed at Astrid. "Are you insulting me, Halfling!? Putting me on the same wealth tier as a child? A CHILD!?" The noble then drew out his estoc and pointed that in her direction, and it seemed that the words were resonating with the rest of the entourage, prompting everyone else to get defensive as well. "Ya know what? The noble's right. This is insulting. We should just be robbing these bastards dry." The thugs pulled out their weapons and went into battle-ready poses. The merchants were now begging for mercy, but Ambika had her attention elsewhere - namely, at the pair of alchemists that had been gradually inching towards the cages as the whole hubbub began. A sharp throw with the weighted end of a kusarigama[1] knocked one out instantaneously, and the other would meet much the same fate when the old woman took a long jump[2] and used the momentum to introduce their head to that same weight. [1]Oniwanban Shadow - The Kusarigama The Kusarigama is comprised of a Kama or Sickle, and long piece of chain with a weight attached at the other end. You can use this weapon to grapple people or objects and pull them towards you a short distance, as well as attack with the sickle or weighted side at range. [2]Long Stride This spell can only be activated and used by the owner of the spell, only affecting their own person. The next time the owner would jump, they can instead jump three times their normal distance. This allows them to jump over gaps or obstacles, or even scale high walls. This spell only effects the next jump and must be used again to gain the effect an additional time. Concealment Scroll [1/2]

The halfling seems confused by these accusations. Sure, he doesn’t exactly know where Astrid came from, but she’s supposed to be there, right? “I– Well, let’s not be hasty..!” he stammers, feeling like he’s missed something. Really, where the heck did this kid come from? Who is she?
Astrid, who had just been idly wandering around, looks at the now aggressive group of thugs all threatening each other. “Fellas, fellas!” she calls cooly, motioning with her hands that they should simmer down. “No one’s on different sides here, yeah? All just tryna make a bit a’ coin? Ain’t gotta insult me just ‘cause I’m a kid. What if I were here seein’ who I hired, hmm?”[1,2]
Some-fucking-how, this manages to convince the group to chill out for a second and consider what’s going on here. Admittedly, none of them know what’s going on, but suddenly they all want to protect this strange small child. What if she did hire them?
One of the thugs points aggressively at the nobleman. “Do you even know this kid? I should mess you up for being such an ass! Who’s the head honcho around here?!”
“Well, her by the sounds of it,” one of the others says pointedly.
As quickly as the bickering begins, it suddenly stops when two dull thuds ring out from behind the wagons. “Hey, where are those other two..?” Upon investigation, one of the thugs discovers Ambika’s work. “WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!!”
“PROTECT THE KID!”
Chaos ensues.

The scenario unfolding in front of her made zero sense only for a short instant to the old soul, before the pieces quickly slid together. Perfect Charm. That Muse rarely aligned with Ambika's needs in her past, given that she was always action-first and talk barely, much preferred to be alone most of the time, and that everyone else was a far better conversationalist than her almost by default anyway. Fine. If it is chaos this scene demands, then chaos it shall be. Nothing like some sleight-of-hand to make it seem like the people were attacking one another. After all, their one priority at the moment was protecting Astrid and that could very well expand to preemptively eliminating everyone else they did not consider the in-group. Taking full advantage of her current invisibility, Ambika would sneakily tack on one of her seal tags onto one of the thugs' daggers being swung as part of his tough guy act, which summarily caused a kinetic blast [1] that sent three of the thugs flying towards the trio of merchants who happened to be in the crossfire. The other thugs all collectively swiveled around towards the seeming assailant, and their partner shouted, "What's the meaning of that? You betraying us now!?" "Wha-what?" Before the poor fellow could gather their thoughts the standing thugs were already swarming all over him and taking him down for the count. While the thugs were preoccupied with laying down the smack on the hapless scapegoat, Ambika had already made her way to behind the noble standing on the opposite side and- A flowery cone of fiery doom[2] would burst forth from the side of the noble, launching directly towards the group of thugs while narrowly avoiding putting Astrid in its trajectory and giving them a pretty terrible roasting. Ambika then quickly jumped up[3] onto one of the tall trees as the illusions bending light away from her dissipated in front of her very eyes. [1]Concussion Scroll This scroll or seal tag can be placed and used remotely or used directly by the Oniwanban Shadow. [2]Fire Flower Scroll This scroll or seal tag can be placed and used remotely or used directly by the Oniwanban Shadow. When used or activated it releases a fan of fire balls that barrel forward in a twenty foot cone and burn anything in their path dealing moderate fire damage. Some say the fire itself looks like a budding flower as it moves outwards. [3]Long Stride

This might be a little bit more chaos than Astrid could have expected, but letting everything fall into place, she kind of thrives in it. Instead of getting involved in the beatings, Astrid just stands back and watches as the various groups of thugs and thieves start tearing into each other with a little coercion from an Invisibika. Of course, Astrid is assuming that the concussive blast and flames must be from her since she doesn’t see any of the thugs casting that kind of magic. One guy even dives in front of the flames to protect Astrid from them. She winces at the sight.
“Ooh, sorry, buddy,” she says, leaning down and quickly throwing a heal of his surface wounds[1] to at least keep the poor guy from being physically scarred for life. Burn scars might be cool if they don’t make it hard to see, and she doesn’t exactly know what these guys were up to that put them in a situation to steal the animals for some coin. “Good effort. Maybe stay down though.” She pats his head and stands back up only to see another thug get thrown across the area and crash into a wagon stocked with small cages of animals.
“Oi, watch the goods, will ya!” Astrid shouts, unimpressed and trying to keep up this facade she’s put on.
“Sorry miss,” the culprit behind the yeeting grumbles before receiving another punch in the face.
Well, this is easy enough, she guesses. With all their attention on her and each other, it would be easy for Ambika to gather some supporting documentation from the shadows. A few ledgers or dossiers, names, any of the like would be good for them to bring back to the WEF. If only Astrid had a way to mentally communicate that to her current partner.
Oh wait. She whips out a piece of parchment, and a slew of words manifests on its surface[2] before she crumples it up and tosses it away carelessly, though she throws a few glances towards it as some indication that if Ambika can see her, she should read it.
It reads, ”Gather as much info as you can while they’re distracted! I’ll keep their eyes on me!”

The old soul would not say she was proud of her heightened senses, but it certainly edged out her situational awareness and allowed her to notice the piece of paper Astrid casually threw out into the empty ground away from the expanding chaos. Some wire tied to a bolt with the pointy edge covered in sticky paste [1] thrown with unerring accuracy and reeled back with trained familiarity would see to it that she reads the contents of her current partner's message, and she would set upon her next course of action accordingly. Considering the relatively bare-bones set-up, the most likely location for the papers would be the podium or perhaps under the stage. Circling over to the back, Ambika would indeed notice a veritable stack of documents just shoved inside the podium, the only care given to it being that they were stored inside hard-covered file folders. Amateur, truly. She needed a way to move the Halfling away from the spot though, so it was that a piece of camouflaging cloth carrying a payload of powdered glass and powdered capsaicin [2] silently levitated its way to right above his head before opening up [3] and introducing the hapless fellow to the most excruciating agony his face will likely ever know barring perhaps the literal shattering of bones or first-degree burns. The pain would send him stumbling backwards and falling to the ground, frantically rubbing and scratching his face in a futile attempt to dislodge whatever irritants found their way into his various orifices. With that done, all that was left was recovering the documents themselves. Descending from the trees and keeping low, Ambika would slowly raise her hands upwards and as though resonating with that, the surrounding sands[4] would make themselves known to her, and slowly but surely, she would just be far enough to have the sands take the folders in her place. Unfortunately, however, it seemed that her luck ran out at that very moment despite her best efforts to stay discreet, and one of the still standing persons amidst the chaos would point at her and shout, "Hey! Who the fuck are you!?" [1]The Hunter - Improvisation Engineer: Lute Crossbow (bolt) + Sticky Paste + Spidersilk Wire

[3]Minor Trickery You can draw forth a minor amount of magic to assist yourself, regardless of the job. This spell lets you interact with small objects and can do a variety of things. You can create noises centered on an area, even if nothing is there to make the sound. You can open or close unlocked doors and windows without needing to touch them. While effective at many things, this spell excels at being a distraction. [4]Scarab - Born From The Desert Scarabs spent the majority of their lives in the desert, training, working and living. This honed their abilities and gave them unnatural control of the desert itself. A Scarab can Summon forth sand from the ground beneath them, then control this sand as if it had a mind of its own. Using both of their hands, the scarab can move, manipulate and control sand, using it to block physical attacks or strike enemies offensively. The sand does minor amounts of blunt damage and can be used to obscure vision and even hide the Scarab while moving across the desert. When activated, this ability will last for two post and can be used twice per topic. The Scarab can control the sand up to 10 feet from their body but can only summon a medium amount.
