Mikael winced as he was bowled over thankful the creature didn’t trample him. He was also relieved to see it calm down, with that he moved from beneath the beast and stood (1/2) thankful for Javan’s help with helping the creature. Mikael looked to see what was happening around him still and his eyes widened seeing the fake deep tusks stunned. With that he pulled out and activated one of his scrolls(2/2), causing a large owl bear to emerge from it. “Help keep the others safe from those creations” he said pleadingly to the creature.
Luna, the owl bear, let out a hoot before running to assist the others. She was lean with white and brown feathers. Mikael was thankful to have helped the creature and make a friend of her in return. Once close enough Luna lunged forward to tackle(1/1) one of the strange creatures. Mikael watched just praying she would be alright and wouldn’t get hurt. He didn’t use his creatures as weapons and never wanted them to have to fight but he was desperate to make sure the group got out safely. He also prayed that the now calm dark tusk would run And avoid any further fighting. The small creatures milling around from the whistle at least caused some distraction for the beasts
Darius flies circles above the two Enemies and makes small squeaks to alert those below of where the creatures are located for the time being

Watching the three behemoths closely, it is obvious that one is acting much differently than the other two. He looks across to the other ares and watches as similar scenes unfold. So there are real ones and tricky ones? He considers ending his spell early before the giant sand worm shows up and starts eating possibly innocent creatures. Then again, Henry ( The Giant Sandworm) hasn’t been fed in a bit so he decides to let it go. The real question is, what were they going to do about the fakers?
Shaa watches as the fake beast makes its way over towards that Morrigan person. He considers again the possibility of just letting the mysterious figure get smooshed must that would be bad for his rep. Against his more Minotaurish instincts, he decides to help her out. Sticking with the plan of using their own weight against them, Shaa rushes across the field right towards Morrigan and the charging faker. Using his fighters sense to watch for any counter attacks, he reaches the side of the semi crispy beast and casts ‘Driftless” on the creature. It instantly becomes weightless and starts to float in the air.
Shaa grabs it by the fur before it can float away. Unhappy but helpless, Shaa tuns the creature towards the front lines and kicks it as hard as he can. Hopefully the creature will float to the front and won’t cause too much trouble He looks back and checks the other two who looked confused but none the worse for wear. Now that the first crisis was averted, he checks to see if any other groups need help. Reaching into his bag again, he pulls out another curious item as well as a janky looking set of dice.

Okay, that settled it. Morrigan was never committing a selfless act for the rest of their existence on this mortal coil. Because that minotaur fellow’s sand pit had done graciously little to prevent the heaping stampede of oh shit headed straight in their direction. Growing quite nervous, but not willing to show it, they clapped their hands together in a continuation of their dance. Bells clanged against their wrist as they did. Someone would stop them, right…? Surely? Astrid’s hammer took out one, and the other appeared to be disoriented as some little bird-fellow cleaned it, but a third one had managed to slip through the ranks, eyes still trained on the alchemist, raising its trunk as if rearing back for an attack. Alright, Morrigan was almost certain that these Wildabeasts should not be able to screech like a devilbird had taken root in their throat. Nor should their trunks be able to stretch like rubber. "Your boyfriend says you're taking years off of his life." At this point, they did not even have the capacity to flinch at the sudden intrusion in their mind. “He is quite fond of saying that.” Morrigan replied through the mental link which had regrettably been established between them and the pesky little fairy. “And he is not my boyfriend!” Why was Hylltywyll so hung up on this point of contention? “If I didn’t know any better, what with you asking all about my love life, I’d say you were the one harboring feelings for me. I can’t say I blame you. I am utterly irresistible, after all.” Accompanied by the sound of obnoxious, exaggerated air-kisses. There. Hopefully that should get the little bugger off his back... and hopefully not goad him into turning them into a door again. Still, they were weak enough to cast a glance back at Kvasir. Even across an entire battlefield it was not difficult to find him. Single eye pinched with worry, the genuine fear and stress a harsh truth that cut them to their very bone. Directed right at them. Morrigan’s nose wrinkled. They refused to be pitied. To be seen as weak; fragile; a porcelain cup. “I’M FINE!” They cried back, their voice the only thing louder than the clanging of their bells and their clicking of their jewelry. Hoping that Kvasir could hear them, even when they couldn’t hear him in turn. They did not need to hear his words in order to know that out of everyone in the world that had ever known them, of all the lives that had grazed their own, fleeting enough to brush but never enough to stay - Kvasir Sigurros had never once, in all the years they’d known one another, looked down upon Morrigan. “JUST TRUST ME! PLEASE!”Kvasir was an equal. Which was precisely why Morrigan had no intention of falling here. They spun once more, flashing him a smile. The kind of grin that promised wonder and false promises and the private security of someone who’d once promised to chase the monsters away, without any real knowledge as to the surety it came with. If Morrigan was far nicer than they knew, it was because Kvasir had shown them how to be. The moment could not last. With the Wildabeasts scattered every which way, it was difficult to discern much of anything within the chaos, really. If Morrigan didn’t know any better they’d say that these beasts – some gentle creatures, others unknowable beasts – they’d say that this was no real threat at all, but a careful ruse designed to sow chaos and split up their numbers – Misdirection. That was all this ruse was, layers and layers of deceit to pull your attention away from the main attraction. Put your arm around their shoulder, fiddle with their collar, and they were so focused on your administrations that they didn’t notice your hand in their pocket, making away with their coin purse. It takes a liar to know a liar.“It’s fake.” Morrigan gasped, recognition sparking in their eyes. They knew this song and dance, this repetitive game. Admittedly, the fellblood was the one used to being on the other side of the curtain, shilling lies and false promises under the guise of shininess and excitement and glitter. But what were they hiding? What was the point of this deception? What did they stand to gain from concealing fake monsters among the real ones… perhaps? Without knowing these creatures well enough Morrigan could not make an educated guess as to which were Wildabeasts and which were fae illusions. But here was the funny thing - it did not matter. The fae were not whimsical without reason. By giving them a quandary to solve, a problem to tackle - which beasts were real and which were only a facsimile? - the tricksters were free to hide their real falsitudes right under their noses. Whatever for did not matter. Clever, but they’d made one mistake. It was difficult to trick someone who’d made a living out of pulling the wool over sheep’s eyes. “Alright, then… let us see what you’re truly hiding.”Nimble fingers procured an innocuous piece of chocolate from their bag, a showman’s twirl and flourish completing their signature spin. All part of this dance - the show did not end until the final curtain fell and the audience was no longer enraptured. One Wildabeast was no longer spellbound by Morrigan’s flashy display, calmed by the cleaning of their fur. That one appeared… real, they thought. At least, as far as the delineation between real and fake can exist. They were both creatures of intelligence and born of rage, but only a select few were truly Deeptusks. But, truly. Did any of this really matter when an impostor was headed straight towards Morrigan’s location. Now was as good a time to make a strategic retreat as any. Morrigan had done their duty, and the creatures had been thrown off course. The line was safe. Kvasir was safe. No point in needlessly putting themselves in harm’s way, then, hmm? The Wildabeast grew closer. Not quite yet… Just a moment longer... Now. “Ladies and gentlemen, I wish I could say that this has been a pleasure! But, uh, well… you know.” With one hand they tossed the chocolate in their mouth, pure arcane energy bursting with flavor on the tip of their tongue. “Now I’m afraid it’s high time for me to take my leave.” The air crackled with magic, the air sharp and crisp. It whipped up the sand around their feet like a desert storm. [1] If Morrigan closed their eyes they could imagine they were back home, traipsing through a Zeinavian marketplace. Or at least, they could try, if it weren’t for the screeching of barn animals and the sounds of battle around them. But it was nice to pretend. Still blinded with rage, one of the Wildabeasts lashed out at them with a trunk more akin to elastic. “Whoa!” Morrigan did a spinning cartwheel backwards, tail flicking outwards and pulling out a cloth piece of attire from within their bag. As they leapt upwards, the hat hit the ground, cap-side down. The perfect size for Morrigan to leap out of the way of the attack and – with the grace of a diver – disappear into the hat entirely. [2]Perhaps the Wizard’s Hat might have been trampled by a stampede of heavy hooves were it not for the wind of the tornado which had been formed by the enchantment of Morrigan’s chocolate. In what some might call a serendipitous move, others might refer to as pure dumb luck, and Astrid Stormstone might think a reckless, asshole move, the hat was swept up and away within the tornado, narrowly avoiding a nasty blow from the still-raging beast. And amongst the chaos of the battlefield, if one were to turn their attention towards the roaring winds, which were very much becoming a problem, the lavender fellblood was nowhere to be seen. Their own drake, however, had taken to launching themselves on the back of the fake who’d threatened his master, sinking his teeth into the beast’s flesh and ripping it to shreds. [B1]And within the nebulous void of the hat… all was still. For a single instant the world faded around them as the hat was tossed through the air like many hands exchanged an unlucky penny. Wind buffeted them within their confines, though they lounged so comfortably from within this magical enchantment woven into the fabric. Would it be so terrible to just kind of take a break here while the others took care of the problem? Oh, but the danger was still present, and they didn’t much feel like having Astrid yell at them for letting others take care of the issue, and they simply could not leave the others – the one that mattered – alone. That simply was not an option. “Are you still there, Hylltywyll?” Morrigan projected through the arcane bond, hoping the little rat gremlin could hear them, wherever they were. “If you are, you may as well make yourself useful!”With a heavy sigh, Morrigan heaved their head and an arm out of the pocket of the hat – and with any luck, they’d been thrown high enough in the air that they could get a sense for the battlefield proper. A full picture that the charlatan would relay to the little fucker so that Hylltywll could either spread the information to whoever needed it, or to use it for his own purposes. Sometimes all you needed was to know the hand you were playing with to know when to fold or double down. And they had a sinking feeling that their true opponent had yet to show their face.

Rena cracks her neck, letting out a soft hiss as she snaps her fingers, a wall of twisting bones and gnawing shadows erupting from the ground next to her and weaving together just in time to block the incoming strike while she fishes another engraved stone egg, pulsing her necromantic power into it in turn as she hurls it toward her children… Wind’s shell of bones forms midair, the skeletal crow cracking her neck and placing herself next to her golden eyed nephew as she lets out an angry hiss, cracking her knuckles and getting into a ready stance as she glares at the false Deeptusks while Wind levels his not quite unwieldy crossbow to fire a bolt into the fake Deeptusk’s midsection as his aunt keeps an eye out for incoming threats… Loci trills his amusement, matching his ruby eyed niece stride for stride as the two of them circle around the false Deeptusk attacking Rena, the skeleton and the fledgling both darting in, Whistle’s twin Icicle Blades darting out to slash along the fake’s side as the two of them rush past, with the emerald eyed skeleton ever ready to take a blow for his little niece… Chime cracks her neck, darting in and swinging her Glacier Hammer for the hills, spinning around to drive the heavy weapon into the side of the same false Deeptusk...

Seeing that the dust had cleared and the others had the deeptusks covered, Fish would slip back into the shadows. The deeptusks weren't the main concern to Fish, it was whatever set off this chain of events. The voice in their head driving them forward. Think Fish.....think.
Their eyes scan around the battlefield at the different adventurers and their various fights. Others seem pulled by the some compulsion so Fish wasn't alone in that. What was causing it though? Fish had cleared the dust from themselves, but the feeling had not subsided. Was it sound based? The voice? Would finding the source break them from the feeling?
From what Fish understood of magic, the spell caster would have to be on this plane of magic. They didn't know of any spells that could cross realms and now wasn't exactly a time to talk the theory of magic with Kamille. The bird was essentially on their own for the moment, but if they could out the caster at the center of this then everyone else would be able to join in and help.
They stop moving and stand still in the shadow. Fish's eyes slow their rapid movement and Fish begins to much more carefully survey the area around them. Any odd shifts in the grass, weird distortions in the air, something that might give away the position of someone cloaked with magic.
At the same time, they flick out a talon to begin drawing a sigil onto the ground. With the formulae finished, there is a very small thrum in the ground around Fish. The mental map given to them starts to fill in the gaps of what they are seeing with their eyes. The hope is to either find a spot where it could be hiding or the creature itself.

To anyone around him paying attention to the small scrunkle, they would only see him smiling and chuckling to himself before his face suddenly scrunched up into a look of pure disgust, mouth slightly open and frowning, eyebrows furrowed, and short muzzle wrinkled, like he had smelled a particularly fowl odor. Morrigan heard a gagging, retching sound in their mind. "Irresistible to punch, maybe." Hyll shot back once he recovered from the disgust of Morrigan even suggesting jokingly that he found the garish Fellblood attractive. The only thing he found attractive on the idiot was the shiny trinkets they kept in their pockets. He'd get them back for that insult, probably by stealing a few of those trinkets once all of this was over. Meanwhile, the battle with the beasts was still taking place a fair distance from him and the ones standing near him. The deeptusks were climbing their way out of the sandpit the Minotaur made with his magic. Interesting magic, but earth domain. Not in his reach to try and learn from now. There was something wrong with one of those deeptusks, from its trunk extending to the fire attacks it was hit with seeming to be burning from within it. The other two, while affected by something, seemed normal enough though. And they seemed even more normal once the soapy residue was removed from them, washed off by the magically conjured rain or using cleansing magic to make it vanish, or even just wiping it off. Noted. While Hylltywyll was leaving the fighting to others, he wasn't sitting idly by doing nothing. He was paying attention. Mixing real and fake, using magic to fool the mind. Oh, this was familiar. There was Fae trickery afoot in spades. He took a lot of satisfaction from the annoyed sigh from the telepathic voice reigning over this area, even if he wasn't the cause. This group was clearly messing up whatever it had planned. He loved messing up plans. In the distance, the sandpit had suddenly become a sandstorm following the stupid Fellblood's little performance. He hoped they got an impossible amount of sand in their clothes, like he currently had a horrendous amount of glitter in his fur. He was already sick of it being on him, making him stand out. As much as he loved shiny, sparkly trinkets in his hoard, he didn't want to be sparkly. He brushed his hands over his poncho as if he was dusting himself off, a small shine of magic spreading over his body to make the glitter vanish, and leave his whole body fresh and clean. That should be better, but he was still annoyed he even had to do that in the first place, and he blamed Morrigan for it. His annoyance at the glitter was interrupted by a far greater annoyance in the form of Morrigan's voice in his head. Of course he was still there. Why would they think otherwise? Though, with how annoying the Fellblood was, he did consider removing the mental connection- "HUH? MAKE MYSELF USEFUL? DO YOU MEAN AS USEFUL AS YOU, DANCING ON TOP OF AN ELEPHANT AND THEN FLYING AWAY IN A HAT!?" He screamed back through the mental connection, absolutely furious. Those near him could see an angry look on his face and hear a cat-like growl from his throat as he looked up at a dot in the sky. Morrigan was flying above the field, half their body sticking out of a hat that was being carried around in the wind. Hylltywyll could see through their eyes, surveying the battlefield from above. Hmph. Fine, he could see the usefulness in being able to monitor the battlefield, but that didn't make him any less mad at the implication that he wasn't useful. Plus, he was essentially being asked to reduce himself to nothing but a means of communication for the group. His magic was pretty suited to letting him be that, his ability to worm into other's minds or leave marks on them that allowed him to know their location and speak to them from anywhere, but it was still a little demeaning. Fine. He'd play along for now, set up a network of communication he'd already begun anyways, and then he could get more involved in the fight. He could wait. Hylltywyll looked to the next closest person, the Satyr that had been with Astrid. Like the fox man, she didn't seem the most suited to battle. She could use the protection one of his marks offered instead of just the mental connection. He held a hand out, black ink covering his palm, his facial expression now just one of mild annoyance. "Hand." He offered, much less politely than he had for Kvasir.

It... it worked.
The fallen warrior had put everything she could--her years of training she'd never gotten to use, her shame, her determination not to lose herself or any of her friends, that feeling of not this time into blocking the creature's oncoming charge, and it worked.
She was still here. Everyone she cared about was still here.
It's far too early to celebrate, though, of course; the battle still rages. And the... thing that Beak is now facing... is no Deeptusk, clearly. If anything, it reminds her of that amorphous shapeshifting fae monstrosity that attacked the--
Oh, it's still moving and still fighting back. Right. Less thinking, more doing.
With an short yet inhuman burst of speed, Beak vaults herself seemingly through the creature's incoming trunk lash1, reappearing behind the appendage and next to the creature's flank, somewhere between its front and rear legs, leaving it open for... for....
She notices the black residue the creature seems to be leaving on the weapons of those who have stabbed or slashed at it, and she doesn't trust it at all. It's possible it's just the creature's blood, of course, but it's also possible that the creature's blood could do... something when she or her weapons come in contact with it, and she'd rather not find out what. Best not to use her clawed glove, then, just in case. On the other hand, she's confirmed from its reaction that it shares its fae cohorts' usual weakness to cold iron, and that's just a simple leather glove with cold iron plates affixed for extra punching power. Maybe punching the thing's false exterior is actually causing damage and maybe it isn't, but the cold iron is at least affecting it either way, and it's by far the safer play. So, she does exactly what she did before: rears back and then presses all her weight forward, punching at the creature's side with all the strength she can muster.2

Post by Lord Sarne Sequoia on Jul 20, 2024 20:36:21 GMT -5
Sarne moves back away aligning himself with two of the Faketusks the Faketusk attacking him and the one pinned down by Lady Kamille and Disaster. [1] Sarne fires out a fissure of pure light, with illumination coming from the ground. The fissure of light was thin and traveled in a straight line up to the Faketusks. The line of light struck the tusks and wrapped around them like a vine, restricting their movement and preventing them from moving. All they could do was wiggle their hooves to a degree. Unicorn (Euros) turned again permitting Sarne to point his sword at the Faketusks. [2] The sword had a gold crackling energy traveling along the blade. With a flash of gold light, the gold beam shot forward trying to hit vital spots traveling through The Faketusk burning a hole right through them. Blasting its way through whatever the Faketusk were. The light gave a hue to Sarne's companions healing any small injuries. With the turn that the Unicorn completed [3] Sarne stabs his blade in the hole he just created and runs his blade cutting along the side of the Faketusk trying to slice it open. [4] Nordic and Naesala moving a little wide and waiting for Sarne's spell to take hold. They charge in going after the vital points that Sarne just opened up on the Faketusk. Cutting into it with all their strength. [5] Vamir behind them moved from his last position and stopped He aimed carefully and let loose with another arrow. It glowed as it flew Vamir trying to hit some vital spot on the Faketusk. Sarne wondered how long he could keep this up yes there had been challenges before but nothing on this level. He was proud of his subordinates. They were working like a well old wheel moving with speed and grace attacking as one he could not ask for better people to serve with him.
Approach: On the Left Flank
[1] Action 1: Binding Light Light Domain Spell You fire out a beam of pure light, illuminating the immediate area. This beam of light is thin and travels in a straight line up to a medium distance away. If this beam of light strikes someone it will wrap around them like a vine, restricting Faketusks movement. This light will bind Faketusks for their next post, preventing them from moving away. They can still manipulate their hands to a degree. Action 2: Sarne will attack the left Faketusk, , double strike, Holy Avenger.
[2] Paladin's Blade beam. [3] Paladin's Blade sword strike with sword.
Battle Cry X2 damage. And his shield for any defensive actions needed. Action Moving behind Sarne they will concentrate attacks on the Sarnes Faketusk.
[4] Nordic with two battle axes, Naesala with sword and dagger.
[5] Vamir firing longbow aiming attacks on Sarnes Faketusk.
Their weapons will have Enchanting Sigil Fire Rune A Fire rune etched into the item causing the blade to appear a deep red. While this gives off no light the weapon does radiate heat in a small range. This rune causes the weapons attacks to burn like fire, searing flesh, and burning clothing. Can not be placed on a weapon with another elemental rune Sigils Blessing Holy A Holy weapon radiates with calming and relaxing energy, filling allies with hope. This weapon is effective against undead creatures and deals extra damage to evil-aligned people. After striking an enemy, allies of this weapon owner come to trust and respect the user while those who were struck now cower in the weapon's presence. Still active last post 1: Sarne Battle Cry 1 of 2 You send forth a cry of war, calling out into the air. You and all of your allies are driven to battle, filled with courage and strength. Any allies affected by this cry will deal double physical damage for the next two posts, making their physical strikes from weapons deal increased damage for the duration. In addition, all allies affected by the cry can not be feared or forced to turn against their allies. They will ignore the effects of any fear-type spell or ability until the end of the cry duration. Can only use this feature twice per topic. Still active Holy Avenger The pact has been completed, you have fused with the celestial inside you, allowing it control over your body. You may now gain any physical appearance changes, looking like the celestial for as long as you wish. The presence of light will often take over at random times, choosing to remain in control to combat evil. Taki's palms slammed heavily into the Faketusk, it's fibrous, wood like shell groaning from the strain. It retaliated against those attacking by shifting a part of it's body into heavy appendages, swinging them towards herself and Rena. She had but a brief moment to decide how to respond, her current Shisho's voice ringing out in her mind. 'Retreat for one, Advance for two.', a saying drilled into the recruits in an effort to curb their hesitation. With swift footwork, and decisive reactions, the dancer countered it's attack by moving in too close to it's body to be struck. Sliding across the long grasses beneath the creature, she came to a position in the midst of the trio. A strange whistling echoed through the clearing, though to what effect she could not tell at the moment. The others were moving, responding to the changing situation both near and far. There was a small, fuzzy golden blur that buzzed by her ear, causing the Orochi to look over her shoulder toward her pack. Kamina's tiny Fae face looked like she could crumble, sticking out of the flap of the bag as the pair locked eyes. "Keep an eye on her, do not let her out of your sight. Get to safety as soon as you can."
For a brief moment, she almost shouted, but there would be a better time for such discussions. Whatever her companions' idea was in stowing away, they could not have picked a worse time to make their appearance. Rina went streaking towards the strange, dark skinned fellow blowing the whistle as if he were the sweetest of flowers. Kamina tailed after her, trying to bring the Flitten to her senses as the battle escalated around them. With her opportunity to counterattack disrupted by their sudden appearance, her position had moved away from the tussle as it advanced. One deep breath, exhaled slowly, one step, then another. Rolling with her hip, Taki tossed her body into the sky with her arms tucked close. She spun several quick turns before throwing her arms wide, the abrupt change causing her bells to chime fading notes that covered the area. Landing without much of a sound, she tumbled and vaulted around the small area between the creatures and adventurers to the silvery melody. Played by the ethereal grace in her step, the Orochi moved as if entranced, her eyes barely open, her breathing barely changing as she readied herself for the coming storm that would chase this wild and alluring dance. Summary: Taki uses The Azucena Counter to avoid the Faketusk's attack, slipping underneath it. As Mikael's whistle goes off, Rina bolts towards it's magical effect. Kamina trails behind, caught for a brief moment as Taki notices, giving her instruction. With the moment to counter missed by the interruption, she switches tactic and activates Alluring Trance in an effort to gain the creature's attentions and alleviate her allies of any conditions. They remain engaged, in FRONT.1: The Azucena Counter - [Defensive, in response to Faketusk attack, slipping underneath it's bulk] 2: Rina flies to Mikael, called by his Whistle's effect. 3: Kamina has a brief exchange with Taki, then follows Rina 4: Alluring Trance - [Supportive, attempting to draw the creature's attention, while cleansing any enemy induced status ailments] Taki - 0/6 Wounds, 3/3 HP, 1/1 HP vs. Fire Rina - 0/4 Wounds, Flitten Kamina - 0/4 Wounds, Lightning Pixie II Combat Kit: Prestige: Sharpshooter 4, Shadow Dancer 4, Brawler 3, BV: Dancer 4

" CAW CAW CAW! DANGER! DANGER! OVER THERE! NOT SEE! THEREEEEEE! DANGEEEERRRR CAWWWWW!"
Mischief's freaking out could be heard by anyone near, but it felt a bit redundant or late for the raven to warn of danger with a horde of Deeptusks already stomping around and attacking everyone. Misfit was far more eloquent, even if its soothing voice could only be heard in the Witch's mind, crystal clear, as if whispered by her ear.
There's magic in the middle of the plain, warping the air around. I believe something's there. Can't be sure if it's a ward or illusion. Or a portal.
Kamille whipped her head around with the new information. Some assumptions were made in that moment: first was that whatever it was in the middle of the battleground, there was a chance it was the thing responsible for the charm spells woven. Despite being protected for the time being by Lord Sarne's battle cry, she was vaguely aware it wouldn't last forever. Recognition lit her eyes when she finished the thought. It was a distraction, of course.
Kalaf's rage consumed her thoughts for the next seconds - it would appear there was no room for anything other than rage and wrath for the drake. With his claws firmly planted in his prey, the black drake bit down the Deeptusk's throat. Then, the surprise came: It was not just warm blood that filled his mouth, but an unnatural taste of the substance that covered the Deeptusk, unlike anything he ever tasted. Maybe that's what the Witch meant when she said he couldn’t eat the fae - although, as far as he knew, that was a regular beast, not fae. The immediate regret gave strength to his rage, but didn’t make the stubborn beast let go of the Deeptusk. Kalaf clenched his massive jaws even harder, closing his eyes firmly, a disgruntled groan in the back of his throat. Still holding down on the Deeptusk, Kalaf shook his giant horned head, as to tear down and inflict as much damage to the prey as he could, terrible wounds that could not be healed [1].
Poe knew better than to stand in Kalaf's way, so when she stared down straight into the drake's gullet and deadly rows of teeth, the Black Quill didn’t waste a second longer. She pulled her katana from the the Deeptusk in a hurry, jumping off and rolling in the grass as far away as she could.
Kamille saw as Sarne lifted up a binding light, and she recognized what he was doing. A smile crossed her lips, and when she saw both ravens approaching, one black and the other white, she made up her mind.
"I reckon you have things under control here, Lord Sarne. I need to go try something. Warn Mischief should you need help. Hektor, stay with Poe. Do not leave her side. Don’t question me."
Hektor widened his eyes, but found little in his heart to go against his Master's order. With her own staff in his hands [2], the Apprentice jumped off from Kalaf's back, being quickly held by a recovered Poe, her katana dripping blood. Poe pulled Hektor away hurriedly, as Kalaf's massive wings started to stretch.
Even when Kalaf pulled from the Deeptusk, ripping and tearing at what he could, he looked immensely pissed, shaking his head to get rid of the weird, unnatural taste in his tongue. Misfit and Mischief circled overhead.
"Mischief, stay with Lord Sarne. Misfit, lead the way."
A windwhirl of dust and earth rose from the spot, as Kalaf finally relased his hold from the Deeptusk. Once the drake and the Witch were once again in the air, the of Black Quill and Apprentice finally turned their attention to what else was happening on the ground.
Disaster let out a disgruntled roar when he faced off the Deeptusk, splinters flying everywhere. The golem wouldn't have the wits to understand why the Deeptusk looked like a beast of flesh, yet gave out groan like a bending tree - but Hektor, the Witch's Apprentice, had his eyes sharp for the deceiving looks of the beast. When weird looking tendrils sprout out to whip at the golem, Hektor shouted:
"THAT'S NOT A REAL DEEPTUSK! WATCH OUT!"
Once again, filled with a sense rebellious bravery, Hektor shot out another Ice Spike, this time aimed at the fake deeptusk, as he perceived, trying to grapple Disaster.
Disaster saw the tentacles a second too late, trying to disengage from the embrace of the beast at the very least enough to avoid the grapple. Disaster stepped back, roaring loudly, more in awe than in pain, when the tentacles whipped at his thick bark, leaving it scarred [3]. It took the golem a moment to understand why the adversary wouldn't pursue, as a warm light hit the Deeptusk and further bound it to the ground, adding on the layer of ice that covered their feet, barely paying any mind for the lance of ice stuck to the enemy, thrown by Hektor. Then, Disaster took a deep breath, the insides of the golem burning like a furnace. When he breathed out, Disaster spewed a cone of fire in the face of his enemy, trying to keep it at bay [4].
Poe glanced over to the apprentice, making sure he was near and safe, before jumping towards the Deeptusk left by Kalaf once again. Better safe than sorry, she wasn’t sure if Kalaf's attack would be enough to end the beast, so the Black Quill focused once again, feeling the runes dancing on the blade of her katana [5,6], before plunging and burying her weapon on the thick hide of the Deeptusk once again, still feeling stronger than usual [7].
Kalaf took flight, and Kamille felt her heart tremble for an instant. Placing her hands to her head, the Witch closed her eyes and let the magic seep in [8], making sure she wouldn’t fall for any of the fae's trick if she left Sarne's battle cry reach.
"Zhantal, you still there?"
The spellbook was properly tucked away in the tome by her waist. His response came shaky.
"A-as always, Mistress."
"Don’t allow me to fail now.[9]"
Led by Misfit, the group approached the center of the battlefield. She saw now what Misfit was describing, but she would probably need more than a few moments to understand what was that. A ward? An illusion? A portal? There was no time to properly find out. Kamille would have to poke at it.
Fire cracked at her fingertips as Kalaf flew in circles above, eager to attack too, the flames already barely contained by his rows of teeth. But the fire at the Witch's fist became lightning, as she masterfully shifted the element of her attack [10]. Lightning condensed in an angry, buzzing ball in her palm. Kalaf lowered his head, and Kamille released her modified fireball [11], aiming at the center of the disturbance, where she though to be the origin of all of that. As the lightning left her hand, she felt the static run up her body, as if a part of it stood behind, charging her power [12].
Upon landing, there would be a loud, thunderous boom[13].
[1]Tearing wounds [2]Arcane proxy, carried by Hektor [3]Arcane activation 2/4 posts, takes 1/2 minor wound [4]Flame breath [5]Holy rune [6]Fire rune [7]Sarne's Battle cry [8]Mind ward [9]Bookgolem: spells can’t be countered [10]Elemental master [11]Massive fireball (turned lightning) [12]Electrical surge: 2 charges [13]Sound of Thunder: Anytime you cast a spell that deals lightning damage you can create a thunderous boom as well, causing concussive force (Blunt Damage) to be added to the aforementioned spell and its affected area. This has a side effect of disrupting any sound based spells or abilities within the immediate area of the thunderous boom.
Action summary:
The group remains on the Left Flank.

Hektor: Action one: Cast Ice Spike (targeting Faketusk with Disaster)

Summary:
Cypress raises a Stone Wall between Morrigan Moonweaver and the charging Deeptusk, and reaches into one of her bags in an attempt to grab the blink buddy she'd been given by Astrid. Instead, she pulls out a weird item (Jolly Bag of Gifts); and, completely dumbfounded, just sort of offers Hyl her hand when asked to.
As the rain and various spells cast by those around her washes away swaths of gloomy, prismatic film from the deeptusks, disbelief creases Cypress’ face. There’s a buzz in her chest - something that feels so strange and unfamiliar - because it’s not begging to escape, nor is it fighting her. A pleasant static hums just beneath the surface of her skin, sending pinpricks that tickle her palms as she tightens her grip around her wooden cane; sprigs of holly, strangely and uniquely coloured like the sky, emerge from between the bark and twist around her wrists. There’s a pressure between her eyes and a sting in the bridge of her nose; and how horrible it is that she cannot have but a moment to know what it’s like to embrace a feeling she’s chased her entire life but never experienced. With a sniff, Cypress drags her sleeve beneath her eyes and wrinkles her nose before she clears her throat and searches the chaos for Astrid - who she sees, technically, multiple times while her replicants scurry around. A smile quirks her lips, but it doesn’t last long when Kvasir howls out to Morrigan. When she looks back, one of the Deeptusks hasn’t stopped - the film is gone - but it’s still charging Morrigan Moonweaver down. Gods, they’re going to get trampled! Can she do anything to help them? Hitting it might put its attention on her, and she’s not confident she could outrun a Deeptusk; if only she had something to put between it and Morrigan. Like, a tree; or, maybe a big rock; or, a wall? Oh, a wall!Lips pursed, Cypress focuses on that thought and intention; without realizing that Morrigan is about to make a quick escape, the satyr closes some distance between herself, Morrigan, and the Deeptusk. She brushes her fingertips across the grass and pushes them towards their location and focuses on a desire to protect someone else’s special person. If it were Astrid in trouble, she would hope someone would do the same for her. As Morrigan announces their leave, a glitter of arcana passes between them and the deeptusk like a wave, before a stone wall erupts from the earth and blocks the deeptusk’s charge with the hope that it won’t have enough time to stop itself before it crashes into it (1). She doesn’t exactly know what to expect, or if the deeptusk will come after her, so she reaches into one of her film-covered bags in an attempt to pull out the blink buddy that Astrid had given her earlier. … Only to pull out something else entirely. Wait, what the heck!? (2)She is so utterly baffled, but it’s short-lived when Astrid’s furry uncle approaches her, and speaks a single word. She bristles, glancing at him with wide, confused eyes. “ Hand? Huh? Uh. Okay, hand.” Overwhelmed, she offers Hyl her hand without fully thinking and casts a paranoid glance towards Mor- wait what the heck? Is that a tornado? Where did the fellblood go!? She looks back at the (why does he look slightly annoyed?) furry scrunkle, "W-wait, is Morrigan okay?"
(1) Defensive Action: Stone Wall - Cypress raises a Stone Wall between Morrigan Moonweaver and the charging Deeptusk in hopes of stopping the Deeptusk's charge dead in its tracks. Stone Wall: You cause a large slab of stone to rise up out of the ground, creating a rectangular wall made of the earth. This wall remains where it was created and can be used to block ranged attacks or separate enemies, blocking off parts of the battle field. The wall can be returned to the earth by will or knocked down with enough force. This wall is ten feet in height and five feet in width.
(2) Support Action?: Jolly Bag of Gifts - One of Cypress' bags have been whacked out by weird filmy fae magic, oh no! What will the fates roll? Something silly, probably!

Four-Sided Top This top, oddly enough, may be spun on any surface. Just throw it, and it will right itself regardless of the terrain. Each of the four sides will begin to fire out small, silver coins rapidly, creating a spinning trap which affects everyone in a radius around it.
Passives/HP
(Passive) Cypress receives with much confusion an Inked Marking from Hylltywyll . (Passive) Floral Gloves (Passive) Blooming Anklet
NPC (Skelly) He is being very helpful and napping in Cypress' bag. Probably.

A sigh released itself from my lips, no response, most definitely a creature used to some form of true telepathy. I glance from the middle to spot the on fire 'deeptusk', if that's what it even was. Perhaps some kind of mimic, no, it's closer to a plant than a flesh like creature. I watch as it burns with a blaze before smiling and twirling my fingers onto a thin but burning needle that formed from a swirl of black and red shards. A simple flick to the creature's possible eye if it's form is to be trusted in some sense. A break in my wind from the bolt of Carl shoots in a similar trajectory. Glancing over as I sense a shifting magic, I see Vail form into some kind of moth and rush away. Why would he do that? Perhaps to gain a better spot to attack, or was there something happening from the sludge, since he has been the only one I can see grapple the deeptusks that is causing this chaos. I snap my fingers as I remember a new spell I had learned. It was mainly to help smaller injuries, as many seem to get those from being around her. But it's other part could help too. With a quick thought to the creature, I recall the ones Celeste and I hand to help back into the farm long ago. I draw to the emotion of familiarity and watch as a ray of colors form only to shatter as a woolful steps through. With instant sight of my target, it rushes to it and starts to snuggle with them. As I float I glance over to the other Deeptusk and grin. I rush the wind around me and float closer to the left deeptusk as the magic of the woolful affects it. I may not have gotten answers to my spoken questions, but I will figure out at least some answers to a few of my unending curiosity.
I raise my hand to move my hair, allowing Rose to see the creature even clearer. She nodded her head and tried again. A grasp of her hands creates a whip. With a quick forish of the strand of water, she wacks the tip of the tusk to see if water could help clean.

I relaxed a bit as the determined charge of the deeptusk I was riding turned into wonderstruck meandering, its body slowly gravitating towards Moonweaver’s dancing form. A heavy rain soaked me through and through, rendering me pretty much grounded, but it did a good job of washing off all the magical soap water. And then Moonweaver shot into the air.
I’d just finished the lullaby and was trying to gently direct it to the shortest path out of the sandpit when I saw the fellblood pop something into their mouth, before a wind ripped around them and expanded out to cover the whole area and smack me in the face with sand and grit.
I let out a yelp as the wind buffeted my wings and pressed against my body, and not for the first time, I lamented the fact I had hollow bones. They break easily, they’re light, they’re great for when you’re trying to fly, but not so great when you’re trying to stay mounted on a deeptusk... My only saving grace was that I was wet, and so a lot denser than usual. Even then, if this goes on for longer than a minute or two, I’ll probably be dry already. I hugged the neck of my new mount and pressed my wings as closely against my body as they would go, trying to avoid getting blown away.
At least there aren’t any more threats nearby, with the other deeptusk also calmed and the third, apparently fake deeptusk floating away. I’m not in any real condition to fight, being in such an open area and grounded. Then I heard an annoyed sigh echo in my head.
Nevermind. There was still the weird voice. Probably the mastermind behind the bubble, and very much a threat. My mind raced.
If he was sighing just as we subdued his unwilling bubble minions, then he was probably watching and maybe even listening in on what was going on in here. As an experiment, I closed my eyes, focused on the voice really hard and yelled in my brain and with my mouth:
“GOOD DAY, PROLIFIC BUBBLE MAGE, HOW ARE YOU?”
As they say, it’s good to return evil with kindness. Especially when you’re trying to stop your bad habit of jumping to maiming, murder and mind-controlling.

Post by Lady Astrid Stormstone on Jul 21, 2024 21:27:59 GMT -5
If Astrid could hear the conversation between Hyll and Morrigan, she would probably barf. Luckily, she can’t hear it, which is probably better both for her sanity and Morrigan’s ego. Despite not being able to hear it, she can still see Morrigan Moonweaver continuing to distract the creatures for some reason. If anyone knows how weirdly weak and fragile Morrigan’s physical body can be, it’s Astrid. Gods, why are they so– Wait, Deeptusk trunks don’t move that way… do they? They definitely don’t screech like that! Before Astrid can even process it, a stone wall juts up from the ground, and then immediately after, a tornado starts whipping sand through the air while Morrigan bids their unfortunate audience adieu just like a scummy magician would. “ACK!” she sputters, brushing sand off her face and pulling her goggles over her eyes. [7] As she blinks particles of sand away, Astrid gets her bearings only to see the Deepfake floating through the air towards another group of people…and promptly get sucked back towards them by the tornado. This is going great. “MORRIGAN MIDDLENAME MOONWEAVER!!” Astrid screeches a Cyranism. “YER MAKIN’ THIN’S WORSE.”What a rat bastard, that one, says a voice with an airy quality and a thick dwarven accent. That voice isn’t Astrid’s, but she sure does agree. But whose..? Before she can figure out where it’s coming from, the wind catches the pegasus and starts dragging him down. Arcus whinnies while desperately struggling to stay aloft amid the wind whipping at his wings, and Astrid pulls hard on the reins to steer him away from the tornado. Still, he struggles, so Astrid calls upon her own mastery of the sky to create a barrier of swirling winds around herself and her steed, instantly calming the air in her immediate area and allowing Arcus to fly unimpeded again. [1]With panicked pumps, the pegasus pulls away from the tornado just enough for Astrid to get her bearings. The temptation to knock Morrigan out of their wizard hat and straight to the ground is strong, especially with the angry gremlin’s voice in her ears. I’m feelin’ about the same way right now, she mentally laments to Hyll. Better to take that frustration out on something that matters: that fake Deeptusk. Because Buttfellow’s main targets have either calmed or been ripped away by a storm, his prerogative shifts slightly. The golem can’t look annoyed, but if he could, he still probably wouldn’t. Instead, he surveys the situation and spots the floating Deepfake. So, he does what he can. Clapping his metal hands together, blue runes glow along his body and then in a flash, he pulls a length of water from one palm, gripped in his other hand. Then he shifts his weight and casts the whip toward the airborne Deepfake, potentially damaging it but more with the intention of holding it steady for his also airborne creator. [2] Spicy Pawsage, unable to bite the thing in the air, barks in support. Turning Arcus towards the new opportunity, Astrid and her steed beeline for the floating amalgam. She grips the saddle with both knees, pulls out her smaller hammer, affectionately named Dad’s Doting Defender, and does a flyby slam of both weapons into the creature. Silver, ice, and lightning sear the creature’s exterior, and its uneven surface bumps Astrid’s war hammer up enough for her to bring it down for another strike. [2] With all her might, she attempts to send it flying away from the tornado, and back in the direction Shaa originally sent it: towards the front. Except… Oops, there are people there. She probably should have checked that first.
Meanwhile the Replicants are hanging back with Kvasir, Cypress, Hyll, and Shun. They’re doing their job: defending their people, but also it’s not as fun as actively participating in the fight. Instead, they take to actively cheering on Cypress while she casts magic more confidently than she used to and offering congratulatory words when she’s successful. She’s the best in their eyes, obviously. They aren’t just cheerleaders, though. While they may not be able to do damage, they can still help in some way. Sensing that others may want to move around the battlefield quickly (or make an escape), the three Replicants each offer a cast of Quicken on Kvasir, Cypress, and Shun. [4,5,6] They know Hyll is tricky enough to get out of a sticky situation. 1. DEFENSIVE ACTION - Activate Path of the Elementalist: Howling Gale [no listed duration limit] 2. To say Kvasir is stressed would be something of an understatement. He’s accustomed to stress, of course; it comes with the territory when you pursue a career in medicine, when you devote the majority of your life to keeping as calm and pleasant of a demeanor as possible while maintaining grotesque, often life-threatening injuries, when you build your very life upon the foundation of saving others’. It is an inevitability, and one Kvasir is more than prepared for at any given moment. There are always exceptions, however, and exceptions do tend to include watching the love of his life march straight into the line of fire of a hulking behemoth with no visible means of properly defending themself, waving themself around like a sparkly beacon to direct any and all hostility their way. So yes. Kvasir is stressed. Very, very stressed– and he’s well aware that half of their side of the battlefield seems to know it. The fur on his tail and ears bristles with clear anxiety, the former lashing back and forth in sharp, uneasy movements, a clear testament to his burdened mind, his muscles tense as the very bowstring his gloved fingertips still dance across. He knows, and he knows very well, that Morrigan Moonweaver is extraordinarily capable; the two of them have survived all manner of horrible things together, from the displacer beast from the very beginning to the bitter cold of the mountain to that strange visit to that temple in Zeinav he still has no memory of– they’ve fought their way through myriad trials, through hell and earth alike, and… And Kvasir knows better than to lose himself to worry so easily when he knows how slippery Morrigan can be, but he really can’t help it. It’s easy to remember how much you trust someone, but hard to forget how much you love them when worry wears you down. It’s… little things like that that rob him of his rationality. Caring so deeply you forget who you’re throwing yourself on the pyre to protect. He’s sure he can still hear Astrid cursing him out for the ordeal with the bugs sometimes. So maybe he’s being a bit irrational, but so be it. That worry turns softer at the distant, but comprehensible sound of Morrigan’s voice– asserting they’ll be alright, just to trust them, please, and how could he ever say no?–, and then that worry turns into utter bafflement as Kvasir watches the wind rapidly start to stir, aggressive, curling, twisting in violent motions out of nearly nowhere, and then there’s the shape of a… hat flying up with the wind, tossed around like paper by the storm. Where the hell did that come from? Kvasir lifts a hand to try and shield his face from the wind, wincing just slightly from the force of it– it’s fuckin’ wimdy, why is it like this?!– only barely managing to pull the earlier glowing wall in front of him in a feeble effort to defend himself from the wind. The wall is barely hanging in there, now, the glow dulled to a dim glimmer, but it has a little more energy left before it crumbles entirely, and Kvasir will take what he can get to avoid the wind so he can think straight for a second or two. Especially since there’s sand involved, too. As much as Kvasir loves and misses Zeinav, the desert can certainly keep its sandstorms. What the hell is this? “Why is there a sandstorm all the way out here?” he mumbles, half-lamenting, half-asking, knowing he’s probably not going to get an actual answer. Maybe that scrunkly fellow knows? Maybe? Either way, Kvasir doesn’t mind sand one bit, but he does when it’s being flung his way in a violent twisting windstorm. “Ugh…”He can already feel the wall flickering in front of him, can feel the force of the wind grow more intense by the second– he scrambles to summon up a surge of light into his palm, pressing it flat against the wall in front of him to rejuvenate it, breathing new life into it for a little while longer. [1] He huffs softly, walking slowly forward, the wall moving with him, until he’s adopted a decent position toward the back end of the right flank, remaining behind with the others who’ve elected to stay out of the melee fray. Kvasir squints as he looks out onto the field, brow furrowed as he searches through the mess of wind and sand and moving bodies for the very thing he’s looking for– aha. There– it’s tricky, but he can make out the unmistakable form of Bubbles descending upon the deeptusk that had been harassing Morrigan, clearly rather upset about what the creature had nearly done to harm them. Ha. Well. Kvasir’s got a few choice words for that thing himself, and he’ll deliver them with an arrow. He nocks an arrow onto Laleh-Vahzgun’s rest, pulls the string back, and watches closely as he aims the shot, stepping out just slightly from behind the wall as he figures out the angle, the force of it, everything necessary to make the damned beast feel some regret. Light burns at his fingertips, engulfing the arrow in a brilliant, shining gold, only burning ever brighter in the seconds before he lets go, firing right at the deeptusk’s chest. [2] [3] “...gods above, Morrigan Moonweaver,” Kvasir mumbles as he steps back behind the wall of light. “I’m going to die young because of you.”Assuming whatever secrets lie within this… strange realm don’t get to him first.
SUMMARY: Kvasir remains at the RIGHT FLANK. He laments the fact that it is FUCKIN' WIMDY and recasts WALL OF LIGHT in order to protect himself and others outside of the melee combat from the SANDY HELL. Agitated (affectionate), Kvasir SHOOTS the DEEPFAKE with an arrow from his BOW, fueled by DOCTORAL RAGE and the CELESTIAL PRESTIGE CLASS.
LYCORIS continues to do NOTHING.
1. Kvasir recasts Wall of Light. - DEFENSIVE ACTION
2. Kvasir shoots the Deepfake with his bow. (19/20 AMMO) - ATTACK ACTION
3. This attack applies Angelic Light, which imbues his attacks with Light. - PASSIVE
TEMP PASSIVES: Vestige of Light - 2/6 posts Blessing of the Mind - 2/3 posts
Wall of Light - 1/3 posts
Inspiring Presence - 3/3 posts (applied to all members of the RIGHT FLANK)
PETS: 1. Lycoris, "Moth Dragon" (reflavored Snow Owl) - counts as a pet A strange moth Kvasir encountered in the Lantern Light Wood on a mission for the Consortium with Morrigan Moonweaver and Cantio von Lumen. This creature has the ability to manifest as a cat-sized moth around the house, bearing resemblance to a Death's Head Hawkmoth in terms of appearance, but when the time comes, it can transform into a vast, imposing moth-like dragon, capable of casting magic.
Can cast Snow Flurry and Heavy Blizzard once per topic. 2. Sparkle-lings (reflavored Snowlings) - do not count against NPC cap A round bottle of what appears to be never-melting snow... but tip the bottle, and snowlings will pour out. Snowlings, little round snowballs (about the size of a golf ball) with legs, are eager to help perform tasks, chores, carry an item, or cause a distraction— but they have no combat abilities, and cannot speak. The entire group of Snowlings may be assigned one type of task at a time. PASSIVES: - Night Vision Any and all eyes you have are altered to be able to see in the dark. These eyes are given the ability to see regardless of how dark it is. This does not effect your normal eye sight and will not hinder you if it is bright out. These only work in normally darkness and will not see in darkness created by magic. - Controlled Immunity Gaining mastery over the human body has increased your control over your own body. You have now become resistant to poison and toxins, your body able to fend them off with ease. Any poison or toxic effect last for one turn less on you and will not effect you as much as normal. - Angelic Light The light within the celestial now flows through you, invigorating you and filling you with holiness. All of your physical attacks now deal light damage in addition to their normal damage types, so your sword slices, arrows strikes and hammer smashes all deal light damage, making you effective against those of evil and death. Your attacks that deal light damage now deal double damage against those who are of the Evil Alignment. - Morrigan Moonweaver's Eternity Ring A single ornate ring that is said to magically bind itself to your soul upon receiving the ring. This ring is not for you to wear, instead it is meant to be given to another like someone you love, trust, care about or value immensely. While someone is wearing your ring, they are able to read your emotions or mood, and tell if you are happy, sad, scared, etc. The wearer of your ring is also able to cast one spell, or use one martial/stealth ability that you own (is in your inventory) once per topic. They cast the ability at the same level you posses (Novice, Master or Exalted) and can be used without needing to be in the topic together. A ring can only be bound to one person at a time and you cannot wear multiple peoples' rings. - Life Spark Earring A small, yellow sun shaped ear ring that can be attached to the ear in any manner. Worn by paladins, clerics and battle medics to dish out damage while still protecting their comrades. While this is worn, if you healed someone last post, all of your damage this post will ignore resistances, immunities and hit preventions. - Inked Marking (from Hyll) The Quillomancer's tool of the trade is a small, glass vial of black writing ink, which all Quillomancers keep on them. By infusing your magic into this ink, you can place your hand on a target, transferring the ink onto their skin in the form of a tattoo of your own design. You can make three tattoos per topic, which are permanent and stay until the end of the topic, morphing back into ink when the topic ends. Anyone who has an Inked Marking will be able to telepathically communicate with others who also have an Inked Marking, even if they are unable to see one another. Those with an Inked Marking will also know the exact whereabouts of others with the markings, able to speak with and track others affected by the tattoos. An individual can only have one Inked Marking applied.
